Volunteers will support local staff in the maintenance of the site and vegetation for prevention of fire risk, in the maintenance of visiting facilities and information signs to promote and facilitate a sustainable fruition of the area. Maintenance work will be done mainly in the morning. In the afternoon, volunteers will define a strategy (event/campaign) to raise awareness about the dangerous effect of the intensive agriculture widespread in the territory and massive use of plastic in industrial agriculture and its impact on the local environment.

Logement et nourriture

Accommodation will be partially in a building located inside the Natural Reserve and partially in tens located just outdoor inside the Reserve. Volunteers will sleep in a shared room in bunk beds or in tens. Solar shower and outdoor kitchen will be arranged in the space outdoor. Meals will be prepared by volunteers in group. Food to be cooked will be provided by the host organisation. NO wifi in the building. REQUEST: volunteers have to bring their own sleeping bag (light one).

Situation, loisirs

During your free time you can visit the small town of Gela and its beaches. Gela is not well connected in terms of public transports. To visit closest main cities (e.g. Agrigento 80km, Noto 110km, Syracuse 150km) during the day off, it is better to take a private local couch whose costs can be shared among volunteers.

Partenaire

The Biviere di Gela is a natural reserve established in 1997 by the Sicilian Region and managed by LIPU (Italian league for birds protection). Due to its geographical position and climatic conditions, the lake Biviere (the largest Sicilian coastal lake and one of the few remaining natural ones) is one of the most important Sicilian wetlands for thousands of birds (e.g. ducks, heroon etc.) stopping here during migrations or wintering during the colder months. Activities in the nearby, such as intensive agriculture, embankments and drainage for agricultural purposes constitute a continuous threat to the survival of the wetland habitat. Due to financial cutting, the reserve suffers from maintenance and the support received along the year is not as much as should be provided. This is the reason why InformaGiovani with LIPU organised together workcamps to support the maintenance of the natural reserve and to sensitise the local community towards the place.

You will repair the cracks and consolidate the stone walls. You will learn how to apply lime coating to the walls. You will also participate in the restoration of a small dry stone wall. The work will be varied!
You'll spend about 30 hours a week on this site. Working alongside a technical instructor, you will learn traditional building techniques. You will also discover the technique of dry-stone construction. The work will take place in an area rich in natural resources, not far from Allier River.

In the Blue Mountains, the main tasks will be maintaining the slopes and preparing them for the next ski season. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning.
The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our local hosts. No previous experience is necessary, but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition. As it is outdoor work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as, depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. The landscape is raw and volunteers need to be motivated to work outdoors and to experience isolated mountain areas.

The camp happens around the summer solstice, when the sun hardly sets and the nights are almost as bright as the days. The bright nights are magical and staying awake and enjoying the beautiful surroundings is a unique experience. During the time of the camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun as there are 24 hours of light even if the sun does set for short periods of time.

Logement et nourriture

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the ski lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag.

Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food, drinks, music and recipes from your country for the intercultural evening.

Situation, loisirs

The skiing areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell are both about 30 minutes driving away from the city. The Blue Mountains are south-west of Reykjavík and Skálafell is located to the east of the city. Both areas have great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. Bláfjöll has 16 lifts and Skálafell has 4 lifts. The sports area in Skálafell is situated at an elevation between 380 and 700 m.
The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands. The highest mountain in the range reaches 600 m and in 1968 the district became a very popular skiing resort among Icelanders. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it’s important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

The locations of the camp are remote and isolated, even though still close to the city. Free-time activities in the surroundings are mostly hiking and trekking.
Some excursions (Golden Circle, South Shore, Hot River Hike, Vesturland Trip or Snaefellsnes) can be arranged at discount fares for SEEDS participants in case there is additional free time after work or during the weekend.

Partenaire

SEEDS volunteers will again be working with the Reykjavík municipality in two of the main outdoors skiing and recreational areas in the capital region, Bláfjöll (or the Blue Mountains) and Skálafell.
In Skálafell the ski slopes are turned into a bike park during summertime and mountain bike enthusiasts can nourish their passion. The main tasks will include renovation and maintenance work on the bike trails; mainly raking and scraping them up. Other possible tasks may be related to general cleaning of the area.

Itinéraire vers le point de rendez-vous

Meeting and departure time to the camp will be 16:00 (4 pm) on June 29 from the meeting point at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. After the camp we will return to Reykjavík in the afternoon of July 10.

Commentaires additionnels

Participation fee EUR 200 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid for on arrival. The fee includes the transport from Reykjavík to the campsite and back (on the first and last day of the camp).

Remarques

English will be the language in the camp; basic conversational skills are needed.
Volunteers shall be prepared for physical outdoors work and should bring good working shoes and clothes. In the mountains, the weather can change quickly and drastically. Even if it is summer, the weather can be cold or rainy. We recommend bringing good walking shoes/boots, warm and/or waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) as most of the tasks and activities take place outside.

The main work to be done will be to main a mural wall of 40 square meters with the local youngsters of Pedrezuela. Therefore we are looking for volunteers with good knowledge of painting and mural art so if you can prove your experience it will be and add value.
Volunteers will prepare a draft design TOGETHER with locals during the first two days together with local youth workers.
Still, other activities for local social animation will be proposed such as games in English for children at the swimming pool, visiting and interacting elderly, supporting a local animal shelter, or helping to clean litter from nature.

The youth council of Pedrzuela saw the need to train, raise awareness and sensitize the young people of the municipality on the importance of developing artistic activities, conserving the natural heritage of the area, as young people in the municipality are often unaware of the diversity and the natural patrimony of Pedrezuela.

The aim of the work camp is to collaborate with the town hall in this task; to teach and sensitize the young people through mural art and other activities to develop the idea of citizenship.

The volunteers will take a very active role in the development of the project. They can be creative and bring in their own ideas and knowledge.

Logement et nourriture

Accommodation will be in the local hostelry college which is a nice building that during Winter is used as a school. There will be several bathrooms and mattresses to sleep but the volunteers have to bring sleeping bags. It includes a nice kitchen to cook.
Showers will be located in the sports center in another building which will not be close, but you can also use the showers in the swimming pool which will be free access.

Situation, loisirs

Pedrezuela is a municipality located in the Community of Madrid, it has a population of 6010 inhabitants. The town offers a natural heritage of special importance in the Community of Madrid, the Pedrezuela reservoir, located near the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Leisure activities can be visits of the local swimming pool, or also hikes, as the area of Pedrezuela hosts a lot of trails. Also, kayaks can be rented at the “Embalse de Pedrezuela”. Furthermore, the towns around Pedrezuela can be visited, such as Buitrago de Lozoya, with its historic castle. As the town is located in the community of Madrid, some daily trips can be organised with the decision of the group to the city of Madrid in the free time .

With the help of a carpenter, the volunteers will build a wood garden shed (6x6 meters) that we will use to stock our gardening tools. The shed will have also a dry toilet. Situation, loisirs

Marche-en-Famenne is a city in the countryside and it is also CBB town! You can find everything there: schools, supermarkets, industries… But still, it is surrounded by woods, fields and small villages where the life rhythm remains rural. Liège, Namur, Brussels and Luxembourg can be easily reached by train in about one hour.
For more information see: www.marche.be

Partenaire

At the end of 2020, CBB received the management of a plot of land of around 20 acres, near the center of Marche-en-Famenne, in order to work on the theme of ecological transition and responsible consumption while creating activities that encourage the meeting of small groups of young people.
We developed the plot into a garden, where we lead workshops (discovery of permaculture, construction of nest boxes, insect hotels, vegetable beds, etc.) and cultivate useful resources for young people who invest in our activities.
We want our garden to become a place of meeting and (bio)diversity. It will live and evolve thanks to the interaction of the young people involved. Above all, our garden must allow us to cultivate social ties, such as sustainable and inclusive practices between more or less vulnerable young people, with or without disabilities.

In order to participate in this camp, you need to be comfortable around people with disabilities and not afraid of coming into contact with them. These are fundamental requirements for this project. Participants who love a cosy communal lifestyle, enjoy making music, maybe even play an instrument themselves (e.g. guitar), sing and enjoy cooking are particularly welcome to join us. You also need to be able to swim.
Since there is a different offer of activity on every day, your working hours could total up to 8 hours a day, plus the communal lunch break. In order to compensate for this, one day of the week will be an extra ‘free’ day, so that you will only be working 4 days per week. The working week and days off are distributed among the participants in consultation. There is limited space for privacy in this camp.

Remarques

Covid Rules (may change depending on the course of the pandemic): 2G+: Only vaccinated and recovered persons can register for the work camp. All participants must arrive with an official negative rapid test (not older than 24 hours) or PCR test (not older than 48 hours). On arrival, this and a vaccination or recovery certificate must be presented, and a self-rapid test must be carried out. Thereafter, the entire group must perform a rapid self-test at least every 72 hours. We will provide self-rapid tests for the arrival and the whole camp period! Subject to changes! You will receive more detailed information after confirming your registration and at least 3 weeks before the start of the camp with the specific info sheet for your camp.

Come and discover a little village in Brittany!

For the first time with Concordia, the municipality of Torce welcomes you to the restoration of the Chapelle St Roc'h. You will work for two weeks on the rehabilitation of the chapel. This is an opportunity to discover this town as well as its inhabitants ready to meet you and exchange with you. Thus, you will have the opportunity to experiment different modern and traditional masonry techniques such as cement flushing, laying of mortar, brushing of surfaces, painting and so on.

Logement et nourriture

You will be accommodated in tents, next to the sports field (bring your sleeping mat and your sleeping bag, you can also bring your own tent for more confort). Collective life will be organized nearby. You will share the different collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the shopping and the preparation of meals, prioritising healthy and local products.

Situation, loisirs

Torce (about 1000 inhabitants) is located in the department of Ille et Vilaine, in Brittany. Several hiking trails are arranged in this town. You can go out to the sea or enjoy leisure activities in the city of Vitre (about 18,000 inhabitants) 12 km away, whose architectural heritage is typical from the region and wonderfully preserved!

Partenaire

You will have to bring warm clothes (trousers, sweater, socks, closed shoes, rain clothes) and light ones (skirts or shorts, t-shirts, open shoes) because the weather can change very suddenly in Brittany. You can literally experience all four seasons in one day! Please also take with you working clothes, gloves and shoes in addition to your swimsuit. Bring a warm sleeping bag and an insulated camping mat as nights are sometimes fresh and wet.

Remarques

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate.
