Arbeit

We invite volunteers from the post-Soviet region and interested people from Germany to join us in learning more about political systems and the current human rights situation in the countries concerned as well as about national and international human rights movements. After the work camp, you are welcome to support our activities against dictatorship regimes and for democracy and the rule of law. Besides creative workshops and informative lectures, there will also be a cultural and entertainment programme (walks, film evenings, concerts and much more).
Study part:
Participants will learn from the history of the human rights movement and its efforts against human rights violations using the example of different countries. We will exchange experiences about different forms of action for human rights. As the work camp will be held in English and there will be contact with native German speakers, the work camp is a good opportunity to improve language skills.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be in tents and we will cook vegetarian food together. You will need clothes for all weather conditions, basic camping equipment with tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, sunscreen. Please try to bring your own tent, otherwise we need to communicate about.

Lage und Freizeit

There will be plenty of time for getting to know each other and personal exchange. You can expect an exciting time of working, learning and having fun together in the great outdoors. You can meet committed people of different ages and experience a unique atmosphere of life in a very diverse community. You will get to know a part of the beautiful federal state of Baden-Württemberg.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

We are representatives of four communities from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine who live in Baden-Württemberg and actively work for human rights and freedom in these respective countries. For this project we are cooperating with the Peace Workshop Mutlangen. After more than 30 years of dictatorship regimes and last big attempts of regime change in our three countries, we feel the need to organise a common meeting to exchange our experiences in activism and non-violent successful resistance. We want to reflect on our newly formed joint cooperation and plan further actions until the end of the year and talk about the goals. New ideas and opinions that you bring to the work camp are very valuable for us.
What have we achieved so far? From the end of January to the end of March, we have held three protests in Stuttgart. On March, 29th we are offered a panel discussion on the situation in our countries together with the project Friedensfestival.ch. In addition, an art exhibition on torture in Kazakhstan and Belarus is planned in cities of Baden-Württemberg in the coming months. Falsified elections, mass repression, detentions, torture in prisons, convictions, danger of killing are the reasons why regime change does not happen in these countries, although the population shows its willingness to do so with mass protests. The dictatorial regimes work because they stir up fear, propaganda and censorship. They don't want people to think about exercising the right to freedom of assembly and participation.

Arbeit

In the last workcamps with the help of the local artist Ms. Ulrike Speckmann, volunteers created colorful messages of peace, which were shown in public places. For example, they designed „benches of encounter“, a “table of peace and reconciliation” also a big mural in the local kindergarden. Years ago, volunteers designed a big picture for the entrance hall of the local church. It was done as reflection of a memorial in the same room, which still shows a militaristic and nationalistic approach.
And again, the artist is happy to help you to get in a creative process of painting and designing. For information about the artist, please visit http://ulrike-speckmann.de/.

This year, the volunteers are invited to create a place of remembrance for Jewish culture in Datteln. This memorial will be presented to the public, it’s foreseen at the site of the former synagogue. Until about 1938, there was a very small Jewish community here. Many people of Jewish faith had to flee from Nazi persecution during this time and some were murdered in concentration camps.
During the second week, the volunteers are supposed to do activities together with the residents of the Johanneswerk. The Johanneswerk is an institution for adults with mental disabilities and the volunteers are invited to develop a daily programme together. Many things are imaginable: playing games together, going on excursions, and volunteers can share their creative, artistic and musical talents.
Members of the parish will be happy if volunteers are ready to contact the different social groups of the town, especially the children and the older generation.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The participants will be accommodated in the modern community center of Datteln „Etienne-Bach-Haus“. Please bring with you a sleeping bag. Camp beds and pillows will be provided.

Lage und Freizeit

The town of Datteln has approx. 35 000 inhabitants and is situated on the edge of the mining region in the north of the Ruhr area. Four waterways for shipping traffic are crossing in Datteln. The river Lippe and Münster region are nearby. Next bigger towns are Recklinghausen, Dortmund and a very nice and famous student town Münster.
Excursions to local places of interest, like crossing 4 channels and other sites.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Commemorating as a way towards peace! The Evangelical parish of Datteln is the origin of a Christian Peace Movement, which builds up a European network for international encounters and voluntary service as a contribution to peace. The Parish of Datteln aims to remember a historical event, which took place after World War I during the French occupation of the Ruhr area. It happened on Good Friday in 1923 in Lutherhaus (former parish center): the French lieutenant Etienne Bach and the German official Karl Wille found the strength for reconciliation. Following their example, representatives of many nations, which could see each other only as enemies for generations, found a good way to communicate. The root of the movement “Youth action for Peace, YAP“ lies in this international encounter that took place more than 90 years ago. Lots of volunteers have learned that reconciliation is possible, even if contradictions seem to be unbridgeable.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Arrival time is on the 2nd of Juli around 5 pm.

Weitere Infos

Volunteers with interest in creative arts and social work are very welcome. After confirmation of placement in this camp, you will have to sign a self-commitment statement in terms of legal protection for children and vulnerable persons. Please bring a sleeping bag.

Anforderungen

In this workcamp we can only accept volunteers, who have received a 3-dose primary COVID-19 vaccine series of one of the following vaccines: BioNtech/Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson&Johnson, Novavax).
We will make tests in the beginning and during the workcamp.

Arbeit

In the middle of the 20th century, the "White Mountains" of Prenzlau were a popular destination for bathers at Unteruckersee. Today, the site is located in a nature reserve that provides a habitat with rare plants and animals. Moreover, there is a hiking trail, that crosses the area and offers hikers on their way to Prenzlau (about 5km away) a magnificent view over the lake and the opportunity to rest and recharge their batteries.
The aim of the work is to preserve and restore semi-arid and dry grassland areas in the area of Unteruckersee. These grasslands are habitats for particularly heat-loving insect and reptile species. These in turn serve as a food source for rare bird species that had long disappeared and now become native again. The local spread of scrub and tree species prevents the formation of dry meadows and can have undesirable effects on the local flora and fauna in the long term. The aim of the work is to remove scrub from a larger dry meadow where numerous wild shrubs have grown over the last 10 years. Then, we would like to plant the wood in the form of Benjes hedges along the footpath. The Benjes hedges will in turn provide shelter and habitat for numerous small animal species. With their work, the participants make a valuable contribution to the preservation and further development of the local natural environment with its diverse plants and animals.
The two work camp weeks are professionally accompanied and supported by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Uckermark district.
Professionals will present the information about the local biotopes and the background of nature conservation in this specific case.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be offered in the facilities of the Uckerstadion directly at the Unteruckersee. Toilets and showers, sleeping rooms and cooking area can be used there. Camp beds will be provided, volunteers need to bring a sleeping bag. WiFi is available.

Lage und Freizeit

In your free time you can use the offers of the Nature Experience Uckermark, swim in the lake, go on excursions to local sights and over the weekend you can make a trip to Berlin (approx. 100 km), to Stettin in Poland (approx. 40 km), or to the Baltic See.
The group can also decide to make a tour with canoes or bicycles. The "Adventure Camp Solaris" offers a variety of modern canoes and bikes to take out on an Ucker tour or a trip around the Ucker lakes.
Contact with German young people is organised through the exchange in cooperation with the Children's and Youth Advisory Council Prenzlau.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

For many years now, the City Hall of Prenzlau has been hosting successful workcamps. Prenzlau is the centre of the historic Uckermark region. The city is located about 100 km north of the capital Berlin, 50 km from Stettin in Poland and 80 km from the Baltic Sea. The area is surrounded by natural parks (for example, Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin) and large lakes.
Prenzlau is the birthplace of the later wife of the Prussian king, Princess Friederike Luise von Hessen-Darmstadt, and it is the birthplace of the neoclassical landscape painter and friend of Goethe, Jacob Philipp Hackert. Without a doubt: the city has a myriad of stories to tell. However, Prenzlau is not only an old, but also a young city, even though it was first mentioned in 1234. Over the last decade, Prenzlau changed its appearance a lot: the historical and the modern were linked, the view of the lake opened up, and the city breathed new life into it. Thanks to green areas, a promenade along the lake and newly renovated historical buildings, visitors
feel like entering a lakeside resort.

During the youth camps, you will communicate with kids from diverse backgrounds and join their activities as well. You will support the camp in logistic areas and support the construction and decoration of an artistic project called “the archive of dreams”. It would be helpful to prepare to offer your own workshop whether artistically, musically or athletically in advance and bring many new inspiring ideas. In addition, all volunteers will have the chance to introduce their countries. You should collect ideas at home and bring necessary materials for a creative presentation including pictures, food, games, or other typical things from your countries. Further information will be prepared after the placement in the workcamp. Besides the announced activities, the volunteers will also need to take responsibility by leading groups of young campers in daily works like catering and cleaning.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

There will be basic and simple accommodation. You will be sleeping in caravans with some other people in one room. Please bring a sleeping bag. As some summer nights can get cold in Germany, please bring some warm clothes and raingear!

Lage und Freizeit

Spangenberg is a small village in the valleys in the south of Kassel. Excursions can be made to local sites of interest and to Kassel. Kassel is known by an international art festival called Documenta.

The „Himmelsfels“ (Heavens rock) in Spangenberg is the territory that occupies 8 hectares. In Himmelsfels there are so-called embassies, i.e caravans that have been modified artistically to be tiny houses for German and international guests of the Himmelsfels. Every year in Himmelsfels there are events dedicated to art, culture, Christian gospel music and youth Encounter. This summer season, there will be three international youth camps comprising about 80 – 150 young people from various countries.
The volunteers will help to enrich the current youth camps by becoming part of our international staff, by supporting the activities for the youth and the infrastructure of the camps. The program will take place on the “Himmelsfels” itself.
The “Himmelsfels” foundation is a Christian organization, which aims: to develop spaces for intercultural and ecumenical exploration, as well as to motivate people for a life characterized by equality and common values. The project targets especially young people who support and are eager to join the community of Christian spirituality. For more information, please visit the website: http://www.himmelsfels.de/

There have already been created many facilities and services, for instance, a garden with vegetables, herbs and flowers, a pottery with a furnace, workshops to work with wood and metal, a shop offering local home-made goods and vegetables, stables for horses, goats, sheep and geese as well as a bread bakery. However, there is still much to do: new raised beds are to be built and planted with seasonal vegetables and fruits and the insect hotel, also known as a bug hotel or insect house in the garden can also be renewed. The walls of the house and the wooden frame are also in need of renovation and should be urgently updated and plastered.
There is plenty to do in the barn as well. The hay, which can no longer be used for feeding the animals, needs to be removed from the barn. In case of bad weather, many other renovation works can be carried out in the house.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation will be very, very basic, in a room with mattresses or a camp bed. As a compensation, volunteers can use a well-appointed kitchen, a very comfortable and homely living room and lots of space in the court outside. WiFi will be provided.

Lage und Freizeit

The Schollenhof is located in the Upper-Rhine lowlands between the Black Forest (“Schwarzwald”) and the bordering territory with France. From the yard one can see the black forest as a panorama. The area is very famous for its beautiful scenery and cherry tree flowers in the spring.
You can see the place as an example of an inclusive stile of integrative pedagogics and work.
In the leisure time the group is free to explore the region on bicycles. Trips to picturesque places of the Black Forest will also be organized. There will be visits organized to picturesque places in the Black Forest.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

About 15 years ago the association „Integration Schollenhof“ started to rebuild a very old and empty farm, the “Schollenhof”, in order to make it useful for the children of an inclusive Montessori-School. The emotional history of this deserted homestead goes back to the Middle Ages. The first documented record of it was done in 1319. Many of its rooms are still in the old-fashioned style of the old farmhouses of the region. For this reason, it was used as a historic set for a television series about the 20s. Nowadays the “Schollenhof“ is a meeting place for people with and without disabilities. Kids of the inclusive school spend time there by participating in workshops, exploring the surroundings and meeting the animals. About four youngsters with disabilities are currently working there and are ready to support the workcamp as well.

Meeting point is Achern train station, please try to be there around at 5 PM on 30.07.2022

Like in the workcamps of the previous years, volunteers are welcome to support the renovation of a public place. This time your support is needed to renew the surroundings of the local Astronomical Observatory Juri Gagarin (https://eilenburg.de/tourismus/sternwarte). You can select from various tasks like maintaining the green area and recreation of the path network below or some renovation in the youth center as well. In general, it is manual work, sometimes physically demanding.
Volunteers will learn about different types of youth culture in Germany. The workcamp is a good opportunity to improve your German language skills as you will be able to be in touch with German native speakers.
For volunteers a presentation at the Astronomical Observatory will be organized. Thus, you will get closer to the stars!

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay at the local youth center called „House VI“. The group can cook for itself in a modern kitchen.

Lage und Freizeit

Eilenburg is a small town with approx. 17.000 inhabitants, situated on the border of the „Duebener Heide“ and approximately 25 km from Leipzig. Its rich history of over thousand years makes it easy to call it one of the cradles of Saxony. The rule of the Wettins-Dynasty beginning with the Earl of Ilburg in the 11th century continued until 1918. Part of their territory is the state of Saxony today.
In medieval times and during industrialization Eilenburg was a rich city. At the time of Martin Luther, its main business was brewery and in the 19th century, it was a national center of textile industries. However, Eilenburg was devastated several times in its history. In April 1945, Eilenburg was almost completely destroyed. The only evidence of former rich times that remained is the „Sorbenturm“ as a remaining part of the Ilburg. It is estimated that it was built in the 12th century at the highest part of the 220m x 150m plateau. A loop footpath outside the castle wall connects the „Sorbenturm“ with the „Amtshaus” (deanery), the former county court. This path was renovated with the help of the volunteers in one of the last workcamps.
The leisure time program will be organized together with the local Eilenburg youth groups and clubs. The focus here lies on the encounter and the interaction with local adolescents. In addition, there are sports activities such as soccer, volleyball, swimming and bowling. A special cultural program and a trip to Leipzig are scheduled. You can get to know the rich history of Eilenburg through guided tours in the museum and in the cellars, located on the hill in the city center.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The municipality of Eilenburg has been offering successful workcamps for more than 13 years now. The workcamp host is always the youth club House 6 CLOUD (former name was “Falle” - “Trap”) which is located in former barracks. In the same building, you can find some more social, sportive and cultural projects. For more information please visit https://www.haus6.org/

Program: To remember – to meet – to understand and to work for the future will be our guiding slogan in these two weeks. We will learn about the history of the concentration camp Dachau and other aspects of the National Socialism in Germany. We will always ask: What did we learn about this? Where do we find racism, antisemitism and discrimination today? The program consists of different workshops, discussions with eye-witnesses and Holocaust survivors, guided tours through the Memorial Site, tours in Dachau and Munich, day trips. There is also time for personal conversation, sports, parties and the chance to experience the historical sites from at the present time. As there will be contacts to German native speakers, workcamp is good possibility to improve your German language skills.
We will offer volunteers to give a contribution to the programme: You can give your own workshop or teach other volunteers some dances or games. Feel free to contact your camp leader even in the time before the youth exchange.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation is at the Dachau Youth Guest House in rooms for four people. The participation fee includes: full board and lodging, together with the cost incurred by the program. Hostel will supply bed linen, sleeping bag is not allowed.

Lage und Freizeit

We will have an exclusive Pussy Riot concert on August 6th as part of the 40th anniversary. 😉 Moreover, there will be free time for fun and games, day-trips, entertainment, getting to know the people, going to cafés, etc. However, please notice that there is not enough free time for self-organized day trips during the International Youth Meeting.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Please note!
This is not a classical Workcamp, the project is part of an international Youth Meeting
Good knowledge of English or German and interest in the topic is required.

For 40 years, the International Youth Meeting is a place for young people from all over the world to discuss issues concerning the past, the present and the future. Young people will look at the history of the concentration camp at Dachau, National Socialism and present forms of exclusion, racism and discrimination. The principles of exchanging ideas, experiencing different cultural backgrounds, as well as Holocaust education are the core ideas of the International Youth Meeting. It is primarily organized by a team of volunteers. Many survivors of the National Socialist regime will talk about their personal experiences of persecution, whether in the concentration or labour camps or working in the resistance.
Background: In March 1933 one of the first Nazi concentration camps was established in the town of Dachau, near Munich. The Dachau concentration camp became a model for other concentration camps and also a place of the Nazi SS. Over 200.000 people from different countries were imprisoned in Dachau between 1933 and 1945. Thousands of prisoners died from terror and the consequences of inhuman practices, diseases, exhaustion and hunger. In 1965 as a result of the initiative of some survivors of the concentration camp the place became a memorial place. And in 1983 there was offered the first youth meeting organized by young people of the region.

Together with members of the association and experts we would like to build a wooden yurt for groups of children. After the introduction to implement the idea, we will start together. We will saw, drill, screw and hammer under expert guidance with professional tools and machines. In parallel, we are going to redesign the outdoor area around the yurt, plant native shrubs, expand the deadwood hedge, and do typical gardening on the grounds. Volunteers are also invited to help at the Sunday Café. Do you have a heart for baking cakes or enjoy being behind the counter? Then we look forward to your contribution to share this day together. During your stay there will also be other groups at the Jugendhof, with whom you can sit around the campfire in the evenings and exchange ideas. There will also be an event by and with women with migration history in Germany and finally a colorful and loud festival of electronic music.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers live in our centrally located self-catering house "Sharewood Lodge". In addition to a spacious kitchen and two bathrooms, there are three bedrooms in the house, each with five beds.

Lage und Freizeit

The Jugendhof is located at the edge of the Bessunger Forest, which can be easily explored from here. On hot summer days the shady forest offers a good opportunity to cool down and wide open meadows invite you to a relaxed picnic. If you walk for an hour through the forest and meadows, you can reach a beautiful swimming lake with a small sandy beach. Darmstadt is also very interesting culturally, as it was one of the centers of European Art Nouveau at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 2021, the Mathildenhöhe artists' colony of the city of Darmstadt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We would like to recommend a visit to the impressive and unique area, including the museum and the Orthodox chapel. Fancy some more action? Then visit the climbing park high up in the trees with its very different levels of difficulty.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Jugendhof Bessunger Forst e.V. is a non-profit children's and youth meeting place and one of the oldest self-managed organisations in Germany. Located in the forest on the outskirts of the city of Darmstadt, we maintain the tradition of a learning and recreational place close to nature and life with down-to-earth, resource-saving accommodation. For over forty years, groups of children, youth and adults, families, clubs or political initiatives have come together here and found plenty of space to learn, run around, play, relax, meet, develop or simply be outside and together. On Sundays in spring and summer, we open the ForstLove Café with a colorful musical program. Excursionists, city walkers and fresh air fans can relax here in the green idyll on the large grounds. Our offer is especially aimed at families and people with low incomes, as the appreciation of heterogeneity and diversity is very important to us.

Haemelerwald near Lehrte (train from Hannover to Braunschweig), 3 km from the peace center.

Arbeit

The Peace Studies Center is located on the edge of a former battlefield. An exceptionally bloody battle took place here in 1553. Analogous to the well-known motto "swords to ploughshares" we redesign this to "battlefields to playing fields". The participants of the work camp will design elements of this playing field and build an information board. Anyone who appreciates creative work can work on a multi-part mural under expert guidance, which is to be developed on the topics of climate justice and fair trade.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation for the participants is offered in rooms with four beds each. There are bed sheets available. Food is prepared together in the kitchen of the seminar house.

Lage und Freizeit

The Peace Center is at the verge of a village with about 2500 inhabitants. Sievershausen lies 30 kilometers east of the Lower Saxony provincial capital Hanover on the freeway to Berlin. For the leisure time, the group can use facilities of the seminar house and make an excursion to Hannover or Braunschweig.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Peace Studies Center in Sievershausen (Antikriegswerkstatt Sievershausen) was established in the premises of the Sievershausen Lutheran Church community more than 50 years ago. During that time, the Vietnam War escalated. Nowadays there are several buildings, including a guesthouse and the well-known "Anti-War House" with an assembly hall for our events, located in a park-like area along with a church older than 1000 years on the edge of the village. The peace center shows through its diverse program, that peace work has political, historical, educational and cultural aspects. Throughout the year one can visit exhibitions, author readings, lectures and many cultural events. The peace education offers of the seminar area include teaching units, trainings for school classes and church groups on current and historical topics.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

It is highly recommended to arrive latest on 31st of July at 5 pm at a station Haemelerwald. You can try to catch a bus to Sievershausen (ask locals) or we can pick you up (tell us your arriving time in advance).

You are welcome to help with practical nature conservation for amphibians in the conservation areas. Together you will structure small ponds and re-establish ideal living conditions for amphibians. The monitoring of the target species is also a task this summer. This means volunteers will search for amphibians in the natural habitat and do the scientific documentation of the real occurrence of these animals.
Within the territory of Schulbiologiezentrum you will help out to take care of the Yellow-bellied toads used for breeding and do minor maintenance work. Volunteers will see all states of the development of these species and we hope you will experience the moment when they are adult and when YOU release them into the wild.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will live at the windmill Marienrode, an old windmill, which has been converted into a hostel with four-bed rooms, shared bathrooms, a large common room and an inviting terrace.
We will cook in a rather professional kitchen.
The windmill itself is located outside of Hildesheim. The next supermarket is 3 km away. The city center it is about 7 km. We will provide bicycles and it is mandatory that you have some experience riding them. There is a bus station 1 km away and there will be tickets for all volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

Hildesheim is a university town of about 100.000 inhabitants and is located at the margin of the low- and the uplands in Northern Germany. Parts of its city is an UNESCO World Heritage Site due to famous churches. At the same time, it also has beautiful natural landscapes to discover.
In the city center, you will find bars, restaurants, a museum along many others facilities. On the outskirts of the city there is a lake where it is possible to swim.
Besides the practical work, there will be several recreational events like a canoe-tour on the Innerste River, a visit to Lower Saxonys capital Hannover, shared dinning, a guided city tour in Hildesheim, etc.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Schulbiologiezentrum in Hildesheim, Germany is one of five stakeholders in the EU nature conservation project LIFE BOVAR. Since 2018, this project has aimed for protection of amphibians and its habitats.
Schulbiologiezentrum is responsible for local conservation areas and it manages the breeding of Yellow-bellied toads and environmental education as well.
In a two-week workcamp you will get insight into a real conservation program and be part of a work-intensive and very important summer season.
Therefore, you will work in various places, together with the EU-LIFE BOVAR staff, employees from the local nature conservation authority and other volunteers.
For more information about the project, please visit life-bovar.com.
Apart from work, you will have plenty of spare time and many joint free time activities are going to be organized.

Weitere Infos

Volunteers will need bed linen, a towel and swimming apparel and they should be able to ride a bike.
For work, please bring sturdy shoes and working clothes. Wellies will be very helpful. Sun protection is mandatory.
As the region is rural, it is possible to make cycling trips.
At the windmill, there will be plenty of time in the evening to sing, dance, play basketball or do a campfire. Therefore, it would be great if you could bring some musical instruments or board games.
There is no public transport to the windmill; pick-up from main station Hildesheim will be arranged. The nearest railway stations is Hildesheim. You will get the contact details of the camp leader a few weeks before the workcamp starts.

Arbeit

With the help of international volunteers, the town hall of Blomberg wants to support the work on playgrounds for the children’s right for “to move – to rest – to play”. In the past the town hall offered several opportunities for kids to be involved in the decision making process, regarding what exactly should be built there. Now the volunteers of the workcamp are invited to make the wishes of the children come true…! Your creative work will be essential in order to make it nice and you will also work manually outside and with (sometimes heavy) tools.
This project is a co-operation with a local employment initiative.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation is not clear yet. Former accommodations were at a glider airfield or in holiday houses at Blomberg. Accommodation always includes rooms with beds and cooking facilities. Sufficient sanitation facilities will be available as well.

Lage und Freizeit

In your free time, you can meet young people from the city and get to know each other during nice evenings. A cultural program in Blomberg and the surrounding area as well as in the entire district of Lippe will be offered. The participants are entitled to 1-2 days off for personal use. After registration, we require a self-declaration in terms of legal protection for children and vulnerable persons.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Since 2009, the town hall of Blomberg successfully organizes workcamps in cooperation with the local youth center “JuZ Blomberg”. Previous international volunteers helped a lot with improving the play and sporting facilities around the local youth center. The youth center is situated at the edge of the inner city and surrounded by play yards and green areas. The perfect place for a youth center, where kids have enough space for noisy outdoor activities!
This year a group of towns and public institutions of the local district “Lippe” will organize a joint project called the “path of children's rights”. Together with creative people and children, we want to make children's rights visible in outdoor places in Blomberg. The aim is to create a place for both young and old people, where they can playfully learn about the most important children's rights and expand their knowledge. Similar to a fitness trail, this should be possible for individual use, with family or friends. Daycare centers, schools and other youth institutions from all over the region can use the "places of children's rights" for excursions and projects.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

As you cannot reach Blomberg with train, please travel with regional trains to “Schieder”. Meeting point is train station Schieder on 20th August, 2pm. You will get contact to arrange a pick up service.

Weitere Infos

After registration, we require a self-declaration concerning the children and youth protection. Please bring workwear and raincoats, a sleeping bag, camping mat, bathing suit, music, your talents and something specific from your country.

Bedheim is 8 km from the train station of Hildburghausen and 15 km from the train station of Bad Rodach. Nearest airports: Leipzig, Frankfurt/Main, Nuernberg.

Arbeit

Volunteers are invited to help in the care and preservation of this ancient monument. We will work for 6 hours daily, do painting and cleaning inside or maintain the garden around the castle. In the garden, the work depends on the season, usually it is harvesting fruits, cutting trees, bushes and hedges. Encounters with kids and people of the region are foreseen. Every year Bedheim castle is part of the nationwide event called “day of the open monument”. The castle will be opened in the weekend for guests and we can support with doing some service and show an artistic performance. In the last years, some volunteers danced and played piano music. You can develop something according to your talents. There will be the possibility to take one day off during the week as compensation.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Bedheim castle offers a simple group accommodation in a seminar house. There are beds with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bag is needed. Meals will be prepared by the group (less meat but a lot of very good vegetables and fruits from the nursery). Warm water is provided from a solar collector.

Lage und Freizeit

Bedheim castle is located in the west of Thuringia, close to the Bavarian border. Next bigger town is Coburg (28 km away). Bedheim is surrounded by the extraordinary beautiful Franconian landscape.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Bedheim castle was first mentioned in the year 1169 and was devastated and reconstructed several times in its long history. In the time of German Democratic Republic (GDR) it slowly rotted. Now renovation is in charge of the family of Ruehle von Lilienstern. A non-profit association is supporting the renovation work and using part of the castle for its own activities. Since 1992, this association has been organizing workcamps. Year by year new working fields have been developed: a social therapeutic nursery was added, the association is running an organic garden and since 2007 the castle also runs a garden café and a small castle museum where you can admire the bones of prehistoric dinosaurs, once living in this region.
During the last 20 years, the castle became a sociocultural center for this remote region: in the castle, there is a perfect room for celebrations; around the castle, one can find various types of gardens and meadow for goose and goats. In addition, there are training courses and cultural activities available. The aim of this project is to create an atmosphere where people with or without disabilities may come, live and work together without any prejudice against handicap, nationality or religion.
Inhabitants of the castle are looking forward to meeting us, to working with us and hearing our suggestions and ideas and to creating a peaceful world together!

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Please try to be in the workcamp around 5 pm on 3rd of September.
