Travail

We will mainly conduct some fun physical activities with the student of Wisma Harapan School. We also aim to teach simple basic Music and movement lesson for the students as well. This various activities is important to improve their situation, and encourage fun learning among students.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will stays in MOVE accommodation. Meal will be provided. No cooking facilities. Sleeping bag is necessary.

Situation, loisirs

The school is located at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. It is located in the city, so you sometimes can enjoy café, night market, etc. in the evening (but not till too late!).

Partenaire

This workcamp has been organized with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) since 2017 (first time in this place!). MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006, but stopped activities for some years and NICE restarted co-organizing since 2017! The Wisma Harapan School was established 50 years aiming to provide education and training to mentally challenged children. So that they will be helped to the fullest extent possible in reaching their maximum potential. They also try to provide a comprehensive service to children and adults with mentally challenged to improve their quality life. President of MOVE was working in the special school managed by the same organization where we had many successful workcamps in 2006-2009.

Kuala Lumpur - Volunteers will meet in the city center and need to arrive at the airport by 14:00 on Feb. 10th and can leave there after the noon on Feb. 23rd.

Volunteers will help in guiding student in studies, setting a better environment to enhance a better learning environment. Be ready to provide attentive care from 09:00 to 15:00 on Monday to Friday. Some group activities will be arranged by the school and teachers.

This workcamp has been organized with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) since 2018 in this place. MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006, but stopped activities for some years and NICE restarted co-organizing since 2017! Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) is a non-profit organization that caters to the needs of children in and around Chow Kit. They run two drop-in centers in Chow Kit and one safe home for children who are in need of temporary guardianship. YCK operate in partnership with Ministry of Women and Child Welfare. YCK developed out of Nur Salam and was incorporated in 2011. We organized the first workcamp in 2018 Sep. that was very successful, so have decided to do it again (4 times in 2019)!

Travail

We will mainly conduct some fun activities involves physical games such as traditional games. To open the mindset of the children in learning different cultures around the world thru cultural dance and creative arts and crafts. To interact with children and become a role model for them.

Volunteers will stay at the home itself. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.

MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006, but stopped activities for some years and NICE restarted co-organizing since 2017! Lighthouse Children Welfare Home houses 75 children aged 3-21 with hard backgrounds such as alcoholic or drug addicted parents, poverty, single parent, abuse, etc. The Home is registered at the Registrar of Societies and prides itself on having adopted a family, rather than an institutional concept and a significant effort is put into bringing together siblings who have been separated in the past into this home as a family. As far as possible, all the children attend school and those who are unable to are home-schooled.
