Work

• Management: accountancy and finance of the projects prioritize NGO’s needs - Project management: planning, implementation, monitoring, defining budget and evaluation, finding new sources of sustainability.
• Research work: qualitative and quantitative research about our beneficiaries (disadvantaged women, youth and children) regarding to living conditions, health, income, nutrition, accommodation, etc.
• Field work: social work in the communities, meetings and interactions with our beneficiaries (advices and prevention), guidance and psychological support.
• Journalism: in order to create awareness among the social network, you will collect and write short interviews and positive stories of Trust Future’s members – either staff, or beneficiaries (Humans of Trust Future).
• Marketing / communication: strategic marketing and operational, promotion of the projects, creation of promotional supports (video, brochure, flyers, business card, …), promotion of volunteering (through also voluntarism) and internship, writing job description of volunteering opportunities, finding international market for Women empowerment’s craft products, etc.
• E Marketing: interactions with the web users on social networks (i.e. Facebook) and the website (update and writing)
• Public Relations: - partnership-building : with the objective of recruiting new volunteers/internships and collecting supports, you will be looking for international partnerships with High School (social workers, teachers), Secondary School, foundations, companies (Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), etc., - search of local partners (building a strong network), - fundraising programme (writing fundraising proposals and implementation)
• Teaching: in collaboration with the teaching staff, you will teach subjects such as English, Mathematics, Sciences, Geography, Physical Education, Art (drawing and painting) or any other relevant subject (i.e. foreign languages, computer skills).To provide recreational activities to children and youth such as games and Sports.
• Photography / Video: in order to create awareness about Ugandan living conditions and culture, you can capture pictures or videos of Trust Future’s environment (community) or members (staff, beneficiaries).
• IT: updating of the website.

Anyone with an open mind and a caring soul can volunteer with TFU. No specific skills or training is required. However, being proactive and flexible are essential. What you will achieve depends on your commitment and motivation.
Please note that teaching function may not be available during school holidays: January, April, August and December.

Work

Activities range from community outreach, administrative work to Kindergarten activities. Volunteers should prepare to assist with one or more of the following:

CEFOVID Uganda
• Preparing quarterly organization newsletters and activity reports
• To engage in the different innovative avenues of fundraising for social and economic support for the charity school and vulnerable families
• Follow up and coordination of different project activities /events especially education for life.

• Coordinating Community work like sanitation and hygiene in Kosovo slum
• To support with administrative work at the offices

Work

• Engage street children, orphan and other vulnerable children in Counseling and psychosocial support
• Vocational training skills (if the volunteers brings the skills)
• Engage the street children/ vulnerable children in sports/ Soccer program so as to promote talent and skills development

• Human rights Advocacy: AYDF works closely with the community leaders, religious leaders, police, local government, and central government to promote child rights and create awareness among the vulnerable community members and ensure safer place for child development

AYDF has different programs, it depends on the volunteers skills and interest where to engage, there is room for new activities.
Volunteers with social work skills but also other professions are very welcomed.
AYDF also welcomes volunteers with no profession but can use practical skills and experiences to perfect social service delivery to the needy people. However we expect volunteers adhering to our objectives to be active, take and participate in the organization’s activities that fit his/ her interest in working with AYDF and share the knowledge with other staff members for perfect social service delivery.

Volunteers has the possibility to choose between staying in the guesthouse, with different international volunteers (sharing room, normally 2-4 people) or to stay in a host family. Accommodation is at the UPA Guesthouse, average but not luxury.

Volunteers prepare their own food. UPA provides gas cooker, a fridge, and utensils.
Alternatively, a volunteer can stay with a host family to be more exposed to the Ugandan culture.

UPA organizes one of our staff or volunteers to pickup volunteers from the airport in Entebbe or at any bus station in Kampala. (The volunteer or staff will hold a printed out A4 paper with the name Uganda Pioneers Association and the Name of the expected Volunteer. To receive this service you need to confirm your arrival details including flight name, number, arrival day, date and time with UPA and your sending Organisation.

Fortune Learners Centre is a project that was founded in year 2013 as a charity organization by 10 social workers from Kayole and Soweto slums who were working in various schools as untrained teachers. Their motivation was drawn by watching their former schools sending away vulnerable children from school due to lack of school fees. They thought how they could better the lives of these poor children who had resorted to begging in the streets.

The untrained teachers agreed to start a community centre to provide education, economic empowerment and HIV/AIDS education including psychological support to the orphans, vulnerable children and their caregivers. Fortune’s core areas are education, orphan support and protection, economic empowerment for older orphans and caregivers, volunteer/Internships, educational trips, sports HIV/AIDS and gender based violence awareness. The school hosts nearly 100 children from extremely poor backgrounds, aged between 3 and 12 years. The children attend classes from class 1 to 8. The school has seven teachers.

Ntimi Home of Hope orphanage is a non-profit-making community-based organization registered trust formed in the year 2018, operating various charity initiatives in Nairobi including the Ntimi Home of Hope Kenya. The project’s initiatives encompass Rescue, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Prevention (3RP) to safeguard the rights, safety, well-being, dignity, and development of children.

The project targets a population of less fortunate persons, who due to circumstances find themselves in a state of disadvantage. They do this by providing of basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, support, care and protection to vulnerable children including orphans, children from the street, child mothers, neglected, child laborers, children who are terminally ill, parents and children who are living with disabilities, abused and abandoned children among others.
Currently, there are 100 Children at the project. At the community level, they take care and support widows and widowers, destitute grandparents, vulnerable youth, displaced populations and victims of floods and other natural disasters.

They guide, support and mentor organizations, agencies, individuals and corporate groups around Kenya in constructively reaching out to children in need of care and protection. The rallying call of “Saving Children’s Lives” is modeled along the key intervention geared towards impacting child protection and development initiatives.

At the Centre:

The project is located in the coastal region. There are plenty of leisure activities such as going to the beach, visiting Ukunda town, visiting the coastal forest or Shimba Hills National Park as well as Mombasa town.

The project was established in 2013 to take care of the pre-school aged children within Diani area and its environs. Many of the parents find themselves away from the area the entire day in the search for food, water and work and are not able to afford to pay house helps to take care of their children. The daycare takes care of children whose parents have low-income jobs or are unemployed is mostly women with semi-permanent jobs using the daycare. While they go looking for work, St Michael’s Day Care Centre provides a safe place for the small children by providing meals and basic education. The project also seeks to respond to the needs of girls who have been abandoned and do not have a place to call home. The founder takes care of these girls whose age ranges from 7 to 14 years. The girls also go to nearby schools within the community to get access to basic education.

When you are booking your flight, please make sure that your arrival is at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
There will be an orientation seminar for new volunteers lasting three days including Nairobi city introduction. Our monthly orientation seminar starts on the first Monday every month. It would be good if the volunteers can arrive at least one day before the orientation starts. However, if a volunteer will arrives on another date, we can still organize for a full orientation.

The Ahero Community Resource Center is a project that was initiated by CIVS in collaboration with the local community in 2014 with an aim to build and strengthen the community’s capacity to be self-reliant and to improve their living standards. The Center has been collaborating with the local community in various development fields through diverse capacity-building programs support and services they offer. These programs include:

Early Childhood Education Program: The center runs a kindergarten with about 110 children aged between 3-7 years who are either vulnerable to poverty or orphans. The children get free education and meals at the school. In the evening they go back home where they stay with their caregivers or guardians.

ICT and Business Training: The center provides a community hub for access of free training in computer skills, especially to the youths. This enables them to have increased ICT knowledge and exposure in the evolving world of technology. The center has partnered with other stakeholders to provide Business training to the local people which is enabling them to start small business ventures to generate income.

The Model Farm: This is an agricultural-based unit that offers space for practical-oriented training in the field of agriculture and Agri-Business. This provides the community with an opportunity to learn how to carry out various best farming operations and practices of various crops to maximize food production and improve food security and income generation. This project encompasses greenhouses, open farm, poultry unit, fishponds, etc.

Water and Sanitation Program: This project is focused on the treatment of tap water to become clean and safe for all domestic use in the community. The water is therefore connected in homesteads and sold at an economy-friendly and affordable fee as part of the income-generating activity for the center.

Community advocacy program: The center has a training and events hall which provides a space for holding community-based open forums on a regular basis. The program enables the community members to directly engage with their community or political leaders and raise the issues and concerns affecting them. In turn leaders directly respond and put approach measures to act upon the arising issues and concerns. This promotes active citizenship.

Feeding Program: Occasionally, the center runs a feeding program for a select group of needy children during school days by offering breakfast and lunch. This helps to improve the concentration of the children in the class, to motivate them to attend to school and also helps to improve their nutritional health. The efficiency of the program depends on the availability of food and support resources.

Cassava Value Addition: CIVS has set up a cassava processing and storage facility which also serves as a training section for agricultural value addition. Additionally, the project has installed a bakery facility where nutritious cassava cakes and bread are prepared to boost the children's feeding program and generate income for the project.

The Good Samaritan School is a formal community-based education institution that was established in the year 2004 in response to the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Kayole. The School is under the Good Samaritan Children Centre Umbrella, an orphanage that started because of increased number of neglected and abandoned children around Kayole. It began with two children who had been abandoned by their parents. They were then rescued by the area district officials, and brought to the founder’s house who resides around Soweto slums. It hosts around 63 children both boys and girls.

The children have been orphaned for various reasons, although majority are due to the HIV epidemic, poverty and unwanted pregnancies. The children’s circumstances and histories are as different as their personalities, but now they have the optimism and opportunity for a more promising future. The dedicated caregivers at the project are working hard to provide the basics of life such as shelter, security and food. However, they are acutely aware that it is education, which can break the cycle of poverty.

The teachers and caregivers at the school are dedicated and loving, doing their best with the little available resources to heartily serve the children. At the very least, they are providing these children with a friendly family-like environment. The school runs from preschool to grade 8. The children are between the ages of 3 years to 13 years. They have been incorporated with others who are able to pay school fees in order to promote inclusivity. The school section project is available to volunteers while the orphanage has restricted entry.

There is a member of our organisation who is in charge of welcoming volunteers at Lomé airport. He will take care of your accommodation in Lomé. - The price of a taxi between the airport and the bus station or the hotel varies between 6000 and 10000 FCFA (between 9€ and 15€), - Transportation is by bush taxi or a bus that takes you to Kpalimé. The ASTOVOT headquarters is the meeting place for the volunteers and also the starting point for the workcamp. The distance between Lomé-Kpalimé is 121 km and the duration is 1h 45 to 2h drive. The price of a taxi between Lomé and Kpalimé is 3000 FCFA at the parking places (5€). We advise volunteers to pay 5,000 CFA francs for the driver to take you back to the association's headquarters.

ASTOVOT's partner orphanages take in children aged 5 to 16. The children go to school in the morning and then spend the rest of the day at the orphanage, which provides them with a basic education, health care, daily meals and clothing. Due to a lack of financial resources, orphanages are often understaffed and cannot adequately provide for the children's needs. Voluntary work is therefore essential to support them in educating their children. The partner orphanages are: 1. SINAÏ orphanage 2. GMI orphanage 3. SAINT MARTIN orphanage
Work Description:

Accomodation and food

International volunteers working on long to medium term projects are accommodated with Togolese host families. The families are chosen according to their proximity to the volunteer'splace of work. They provide a private room for the volunteers as well as drinking water and 3meals a day (meals are adapted according to the diet of each volunteer). The volunteer remains independent and is free to go out and participate in activities of his/her choice. Living with a host family allows a total immersion in Togolese life to discover all its facets.

Situated 120 km north of Lomé, the commune of Kpalimé is the ideal place for nature lovers and
hikers who wish to discover beautiful mountainous landscapes and tropical flora. Numerous natural
waterfalls will allow you to refresh yourself at the water's edge. Kpalimé is also home to the most
important craft center of the country where a very large number of artists and craftsmen have settled.
In addition to the project, volunteers are free to pursue leisure activities such as discovery walks, hikes, festive outings and cultural encounters. These activities enable the volunteers to come into contact with the local population and discover Togolese culture. Please note that expenses relating to excursions and outings by volunteers are not included in the participation fees.

The NGO Association Togolaise des Volontaires au Travail (ASTOVOT) has more than 60 years of experience in international voluntary service. Each year, it welcomes many volunteers from all over the world on short, medium and long term volunteer projects (3 weeks to 12 months) in Togo. These projects allow the national volunteers (about 200) to work hand in hand with the international volunteers and to create a real intercultural exchange throughout the year. - Transportation is by bush taxi or a bus that takes you to Kpalimé. The ASTOVOT headquarters is the meeting place for the volunteers and also the starting point for the workcamp. The distance between Lomé-Kpalimé is 121 km and the duration is 1h 45 to 2h drive. The price of a taxi between Lomé and Kpalimé is 3000 FCFA at the parking places (5€). We advise volunteers to pay 5,000 CFA francs for the driver to take you back to the association's headquarters.

Additional comments

It is essential to apply for a visa before flying to Togo. We advise volunteers to apply for a tourist visa, as there is no section reserved for volunteers. ASTOVOT will send you a letter of invitation before you apply for your visa. It prepares the files requested before obtaining the visa. There is an infosheet for each project which contains information on the conditions of participation, contacts, necessary information on pre-trip preparations, arrival in Togo, transport, accommodation, planning of project activities...etc. The infosheet is sent individually to the volunteers after their registration to the projects. If you are interested in several projects, please let us know. We will try, as far as possible, to combine several projects. It is usually best to send a list with an order of preference. If you choose a single project and it only occupies a few hours per day, it will be possible to decide how to complete your schedule according to your desires and interests and the needs of our partners. It takes about a month between the acceptance of the project and the arrival on site. Indeed, some administrative steps have to be taken in order to welcome you. Once your project has been accepted, we will send you an official invitation letter
ASTOVOT doesn't have any insurance covering international volunteers. Volunteers should contact the sending organisation for more information. It is important for volunteers to have health insurance.
We recommend not carrying a lot of cash. They should bring bank cards to make withdrawals when they need them for purchases.
