Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Hiiumaa, according to the Nordic sagas, emerged from the Baltic Sea as a small islet more than 10 000 years ago. The island of Hiiumaa was first mentioned in historical documents as a deserted island called Dageida in 1228. The first inhabitants settled down at the end of the 13th century. Nowadays, Hiiumaa is the second biggest island of Estonia with an area of 965 sq. km and a population of around 9 000. It has many historical and nature sights, and there are kind people known for their hospitality and good sense of humor. The island is referred to as a remote area of Europe, and EstYES feels particularly proud developing international voluntary projects for over twenty years there. EstYES has been cooperating with eco-farms all over Estonia for solidarity and practical support to local people who work in the agricultural sector keeping traditional lifestyle and developing new eco-farming despite all difficulties. Alliksaare Farm on Hiiumaa Island is one of such projects. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people. Alliksaare Farm breeds an endangered breed of horses called Estonian Native horses. Alliksaare Farm also has an important task taking care of coastal meadows which are international birds migration area under protection of NATURA Program.Video of past camp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEAc2Sch6f8

Weather and people have left their mark: The stone of the sculptures needs to be brushed to remove moss and lichen, and some sculptures are also sprayed with graffiti. For others, the subsurface needs to be renewed or maintained. The explanatory plates for the objects will also be replaced. In addition, you will completely renew the barbecue area, which is part of the 9km long trail. This area is intended to invite people to combine arts, nature and community.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated in the local multipurpose hall in the centre of the village which is otherwise used for sports and events. This offers plenty of space, a small kitchen and enough sanitary facilities for everyone. Camp beds are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillow (if required).

Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

Lage und Freizeit

Hohentengen am Hochrhein lies in the south of Germany, in a kind of bubble surrounded on three sides by Switzerland. Only the Rhine separates the village from Switzerland. The village offers unspoilt nature, numerous sports and leisure facilities (beach volleyball, swimming pools, water sports ...).

Mountain ranges on the northern edge of the municipality, the Rhine Valley opens up to the south, the Rhine glistens in the plain and the Alps in Switzerland greet you on the horizon when visibility is good. With its 3,600 inhabitants, Hohentengen offers the entire infrastructure you could wish for: supermarkets, shops, pubs and much more.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

In 2000, 12 internationally renowned artists realised ideas and thoughts on the theme of borders - dividing and uniting - in sculptures. Embedded in the marvellous landscape of the High Rhine, this path is a cultural symbol of friendship and connects the places on both sides of the river and the German-Swiss border. https://skulpturenweg.de/

Now, almost 25 years after its construction, the sculpture trail needs some maintenance. The citizens of Hohentengen would be delighted if this is done with the help of international volunteers completely in the spirit of the path's artistic message.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

First you have to travel to Waldshut. Please check www.bahn.com for a connection from anywhere in Germany or Switzerland. In Waldshut, you will find bus #7340 to Hohentengen. There is a bus every two hours on Sundays. The last bus leaves Waldshut on Sundays at 7.30 pm, so please arrange your travel in a way to be on time for this connection at the latest. Get off at the bus stop "Kath. Pfarramt, Hohentengen".

The "sentier des Moines" (monks' path) winds along the hillside below the chapel; it is supported by dry stone retaining walls and has a stone-covered path, called a "calade" in southeast France. This year, it is a portion of the alley of Fusains which joins the path of the Monks. The goal is to rehabilitate the alley in dry stone in order to restore its initial aspect.
The following work will be undertaken : fishing and sorting of stones, earthwork and construction of the calade according to the very precise technique of dry stone construction (theoretical and practical contribution).
The workcamp will be supervised by a professional in dry stone construction techniques. A daily work of 6 hours is planned, the organization of the days will be discussed and decided by the group of participants.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated in individual tents next to the municipal gymnasium of the small town (1km from the workcamp site, walking distance). A team of animators will be present to accompany you in the organization of the collective life: planning of the household tasks, elaboration of the menus and preparation of the meals in turn (vegetarian, vegan and other specific diets possible), organization of the leisure activities and the outings. The purchase of local products is widely favored. Bring a mattress, a warm sleeping bag and a pillow.

Lage und Freizeit

Serres (05700) is a small town nestled between the Alps and the Provence (30 km North of Sisteron, 140 km South of Grenoble).

Leisure activities: You can discover many major sites in the south of the Hautes-Alpes: Aujour mountain and Clausonne abbey, Saint-Genis mountain, the Méouge gorges, Orpierre site, the Riou lake where you can practice many sports activities (climbing, mountain biking, hiking, swimming in lakes and rivers).

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Come and discover one of the small perched towns in the South of France, Serres in the Alps, which offers a magnificent panorama of the medium mountain range of the Baronnies Provençales ! The town, leaning against the Pignolette rock, is made up of small shady medieval streets and covered and sloping passages in which it is good to stroll. At the top of this village and at the bend in the monks' path, is the chapel of Notre Dame de Bon Secours, which overlooks the Buëch valley. This building was erected in 1730 and blessed in 1732. Partly dug into the rock, it marries the hillside, on the presumed site of the former chapel of the castle of Serres.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Access to Serres train station via Valence TGV, Valence ville, Grenoble, Marseille Saint-Charles and Aix en Provence train stations. The meeting point will be at 3:30 or 7:30 pm. The camp leaders will drive you to the place of accommodation.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Estonian people have lived in these lands since ancient times and ancient Estonians were known as a wise and mysterious people. They have been described as a nation of witches and sorcerers, and for good reason. While later periods of Estonian history can be learned about in a number of places across the country, the Viking Age (8th to 11th century) in our lands has not received much attention. The Viking Village is the result of one man s long-lived dream and the boldness and initiative of young enthusiasts. It all started in 2005, when the current chieftains of the Viking Village discovered an ancient and mysterious location on the scenic bank of the Pirita River, which could not have been a better place to build an ancient Estonian Viking village. The mission of the Viking Village is to give people a sense of what ancient life was like and to provide a place to relax and learn to know themselves as well as their environment. It is a place where you can take a break from fast-paced modern life and discover the Viking within yourself. The Viking Village is constantly being expanded and improved. Today, we have completed roughly half of the planned village, which means that there is at least as much to come More information: www.viikingitekyla.ee

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Hiiumaa according to the Nordic sagas emerged from the Baltic Sea as a small islet more than 10 000 years ago. The island of Hiiumaa was first mentioned in historical documents as a deserted island called Dageida in 1228. The first inhabitants settled down at the end of the 13th century. Nowadays Hiiumaa is the second biggest island of Estonia with the area of 965 sq. km and the population around 10 000. It has many historical and nature sights, and there are kind people known for their hospitality and good sense of humor. The island is referred as a remote area of Europe, so EstYES feels particularly proud developing international voluntary projects for 20 years there. For years EstYES has been cooperating with farms all over Estonia for solidarity and practical support to local people who work in agricultural sector keeping traditional life style and developing new eco-farming despite of all difficulties. Lepaniidi Farm on Hiiumaa Island is one of such projects. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people.
