Arbeit

Empowering young people in Sports development skills and intensive work camp with hands on initiative, addressing issues on Gender using sports methodology.

Sports Development Programme will require volunteers to be involved in different sports activities such as learning simple sports and games activities. Volunteers will interact and teach children sports and artistic activities they have. Volunteers will be able to interact with the community also.

This is an exciting project as volunteers have opportunity to work with different communities and interact with children in sports development and impact leadership skills to the children.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation: Accommodation will be at the centre in Soshanguve. Participants can bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is running water. The accommodation has flushing toilets and does have electricity but should expect normal power cuts lasting to 4 hours on various time slots in the week. (Not every day)

What to bring: Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, Sports shoes are advisable. Light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flashlight and arts and cultural items such as drums etc. for the children even sporting equipment such as soccer balls etc. and board games to share.

Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Sotho, Zulu, and Tshwana to name a few.

The Weekend is meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture and prepare a dish from your country.

Requirements: Qualification of participants: Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background - Positive attitude - Willing to share his/her experiences - Flexible to live/stay in simple living conditions - Flexible to eat local food - Ready to do academic work on the project and No experience needed at all. Willingness to guide students especially in cultural and arts activities mostly afternoon work from 2 pm till 6 pm mostly. Some weekends may have excursions with students to different areas of Pretoria

Arbeit

Volunteers will be helping in a building project for a SAVWA community center which will cater for the community an volunteers themselves. The building project includes brick making, wall construction at project site and other local activities. We hope to finish the wall for the surrounding center with assistance from community members and well-wishers to the project.

Volunteers and community members will give support and guide community work and building such as mixing cement and plastering. This is an exciting project as we hope to bring some change especially for the centre itself. Volunteers have opportunity to work with different people in the community and interact with children after school.

The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is water. Type of Work: World Heritage Work Camp in Tendele Community

Kamberg Nature Reserve forms part of the Maloti- Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. Volunteers will be in Tendele community located adjustment to Kamberg Nature Reserve where we will have an opportunity to have site seeing as well as activities in the park

Volunteer Tasks:
During a two-week work camp, volunteers will have an opportunity to UNESCO World Heritage, site in Maloti Drankensberg Park, preservation, cultural landscape, and nature conservation will have the opportunity to gain insight into the work of preserving UNESCO World Heritage sites in theory and practice.

The following activities will take place during the two-week work camp period:
- Local activities in Thendele community, school and community activities
- Theoretical insights into the preservation of World Heritage site.
- Practical assignments to learn techniques for the preservation of World Heritage sites with a focus on cultural landscapes ("Hands-On Activities")
- Excursions and visits to the San Rock Art World Heritage Site
- Leisure activities and exchange.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation:
Accommodation will be in shared rooms at the project centre. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is running water. The accommodation and workplace have flushing toilets and does have electricity.

Language:
The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Zulu to name a few.

Requirements/request:
1. To be open-minded and “doer” type
2. Ready to stand out in front of the others and coordinate the children, community
3. Any knowledge of musical instrument, singing or dancing is highly welcome
4. Please bring some typical food & cookies & recipes & pictures & flags and if possible musical pieces, songs, instruments
5. Meals should be prepared by volunteers for themselves (breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner as well) – based on available ingredients for the day.
6. Note that participants will travel as a group from Pretoria to KwaZulu Natal as coordination done as a group.

Building a strong cultural identity, common heritage, shared values and ethics with youth driven and African history celebration!

The Heritage Month celebration will require volunteers to be involved in arts and cultural activities such as learning local South African arts and cultural activities and sharing their own cultural and values from their respective countries. Volunteers will work in groups and will be able to share each day and cook their local traditional food and teach children cultural and artistic activities and games.

This is an exciting project as volunteers have opportunity to work with different communities and interact with children in cultural and arts activities in the community.

South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association (SAVWA) Sustainable Permaculture Gardening Project is a community lead innovative to encourage young people to promote low environmental impact living and eco-friendly practices. The emphasis is on the development of and to practice self-sustaining environmental awareness for climate change and sustainable living. We have seen the impact we have had on the environment and what better ways to be able to live sustainably.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to get hands on training from relevant training personnel from our organisation and also some community based organisations working with the people on permaculture gardening.

We will have voluntary work at our community center where various activities will be conducted. Volunteers are encouraged to bring an open mind as we will have various activities to keep them busy for the work camp period.

South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association (SAVWA) will contribute towards the development of South African communities both urban and rural through local, national, regional and international volunteers to work together towards the cultural, economic, socio-political well-being of young people and marginalised persons or groups through empowerment work camps programs and promotion of sustainable development.

South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association shall work and collaborate with other Volunteer driven organisation, Regional Work Camp Associations, and organisations.

South Africa Volunteer Work Camp Association is a member of Southern African Workcamp Cooperation (SAWC), Partner with Service Civil International (SCI), Full member of Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) and Partner Member of Alliance if European Voluntary Service Organisations.

Book your tickets to OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa Take the Gautrain from OR Tambo International Airport located upstairs of the Arrival Lounge to Pretoria station. Purchase a train card once you exit the airport to follow online on www.gautrain.co.za This is a world class train safe and reliable. You will change train at Marlboro station take train going towards Pretoria station on Platform A upstairs. Once at Pretoria station just wait for SAVWA official to pick you up. Please reserve a small amount of money for transport to the camp and vice-verse. We advise all volunteers to ask for advice from us when they are planning to book their ticket to Pretoria and let us know of their date of arrival and departure.

Recognition of 5th December (World Volunteer Day) to recognise all the valuable volunteers in our community and organisation at large

The work camp activities will include community work in and around Pretoria and includes working with children and also voluntary services to the community of Soshanguve.

We will honour our volunteers for the month with one special day activity dedicated to all volunteers for the year.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a home, Pretoria. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is running water. The accommodation and work place have flushing toilets and do have electricity.

Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Ndebele, Zulu, and other local languages

What to bring: Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, working gloves and closed shoes are advisable. Rain coat, light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flash light;

Lage und Freizeit

Leisure Activities: The Weekend is meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves at their own expense. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture.
