The volunteers will work 5 or 6 days a week at 3 different neighbourhood houses during the project which are specifically focus on working with children. The main task will be counselling a group of children aged between 3-14 years old and leading several activities such as:Ecology, Nature, Garden, Upcycling, Street Games, Painting Art, Marbling, Hand Skills, Cartoon, Puppet, Guitar, Piano, Vocal, Drama, 3D Printing, Coding. Volunteers are welcome to offer their own ideas of workshops as well.
Unterkunft und Verpflegung
Accommodation will be at hotel or hostel selected by the local host. Accommodation will be in walking distance to the Neighborhood Houses and other points of interest. Food will be provided by the local host 3 times a day.
Lage und Freizeit
and 222;isli is one of the biggest and the most central district of Istanbul. For more information about Istanbul you can check https://goistanbulturkiye.com/ . Since the location is quite central in Istanbul, the group will have chance to do plenty of activities. The local host is also planning on some free time activities such as picnic, museum visits and going to the theatre.
Wer organisiert das Projekt?
Mahalle Evleri (Neighborhood Houses in English) are the centers where psycho-social and socio-economic support programs are implemented to meet the needs of women, children, young, old, men, disabled, immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees or LGBTI individuals living in and 222;isli District and society in Istanbul. With the Neighborhood Houses, which are designed as multi-functional, it is aimed to carry out activities for individuals and the society, taking into account the physical, demographic, cultural and socio-economic structure of the neighborhood and to cover the special needs of each individual. Majority of the targeted group of these houses are145 children between 3-14 years old. There are 9 Neighborhood Houses and they are all supported by the and 222;isli Municipality which is one of the biggest district municipality in Istanbul.
Volunteers should fly to one of the airports in Istanbul. Meeting day will be the first day of the camp and we will meet at the GHD Office at Taksim, Istanbul at 15:00 p.m.(Turkey time). Volunteers should make their travel arrangements accordingly. After the orientation meeting, the group will go together to the project area. More information about the meeting point will be send with infosheet 1 month before the project.
COVID-19 measures: While travelling to Turkey, PCR test is required for most of the countries. If you have negative PCR test then there is no official quarantine process that you need go through upon your arrival. Please check for exceptional countries for these rules on this website: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-us/announcements/coronavirus-outbreak/travel-restrictions/ Volunteers will be provided with masks and disinfectant by the local host during the camp. Our camp leaders are well informed about the precautions that are necessary to take according to different scenerios related with COVID-19. IMPORTANT: Due to COVID-19 pandemic, all workcamps are going under re-confirmation process 1 month prior to their starting dates. Accepted volunteers are requested to wait until 1 month left to the starting date of the camp before making their final travel arrangements.
A good motivation letter is required. Applicants will be interviewed via Skype or Zoom before selection. Please add your Skype address on your motivation letter. Smoking and drinking alcohol is not allowed during the camp at the campsite in front of the kids. Please be aware of the rules before applying.
