This project is for those who love kids and would like to help them, as all the activities are based in local camp for kids aged 7-13. Kids are supervised by Russian group leaders (fluent English speakers). Volunteers will accompany kids throughout the day (in different excursions, quests, competitions, etc.), give master-classes and organize activities in English related to intercultural learning for kids, so that they could improve their language skills and learn about different countries the volunteers are coming from. If desired, volunteers can attend/participate/give lessons at the language centre (9 a.m. – 9 p.m.). We will be busy 5 – 8 hours a day 5 days a week, but time can be split between morning master classes and evening events.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Participants will live in a flat, with beds, blankets and bed linen, free Internet access. Meals 3 times a day will be provided in a local canteen.

Lage und Freizeit

During free time participants will be able to learn history and culture of Vologda - one of the oldest and historical towns in Russia.

The mission of the project is intercultural and linguistic education of primary and middle school students from different parts of Russia. All the activities will be organized in cooperation with the local Center of education “Alice”

Since 2008 Perspective Camps (Перспектива) have been uniting volunteers from Russia and abroad in their sincere desire to help local communities of Yaroslavl Region in renovating social infrastructure. Over the last years the volunteers have renovated schools, kindergartens, orphanages, elderly people’s apartments, parks (for the 1000 anniversary of Yaroslavl), monuments, churches and social rehabilitation centers. This year you will continue this work in Pereslavl-Zalessky, together with a group of Russian volunteers. You will participate in such activities as repairing social objects (museums, houses-boarding schools, schools e.t.c.) and monuments of architecture. You will work 6 hours a day (with a lunch-break), 6 days a week.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Lodging, food and excursions are provided by the local host. Volunteers will live in a dormitory, located not far from the work place, toilet and bathroom on the floor. We will have a bus to reach the working place if necessary. Meals 3 times a day will be provided in the canteen. Alcohol is prohibited in our camp.

Lage und Freizeit

Pereslavl-Zalessky is located 140 km from Moscow, on the banks of Lake Pleshcheyev, at the confluence of the Trubezh River. This camp is a great opportunity to visit one of the oldest cities in Central Russia. This city was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. An outstanding statesman and commander Alexander Nevsky was born, lived and reigned here. At the end of the 17th century, near Pereslavl, on the shore of Lake Pleshcheyev, the young Tsar Peter I began the construction of the so-called "amusing flotilla" that laid the foundation for the Russian navy. Entertainment and competitions will be held for participants in the evenings. You can swim in the river. Days off are the time for excursions, picnics and free time activities. Volunteers may enjoy hiking around the area with a lot of museums and beautiful nature. The trip to Yaroslavl – the centre of region and one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of the “Golden Ring” of Russia will be organized. A short course of Russian will be provided. It includes 15 hours of classes, 3 hours of practical usage (field trips) and 2 hours of guided but real communication with participants from Russia almost every evening (20 hours in total). The course covers basic grammar and such topics as personal information, likes and dislikes, daily life, food, shopping, weather, illnesses, clothes.

Volunteers will help to clean the park and green areas of Museum’s homestead and its branches.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Participants will leave in the hotel on the territory of Khmelita. Ingredients for food will be provided. Volunteers will cook for themselves in groups of 2.

Lage und Freizeit

Khmelita has a big territory with barocco-styled House, church, park with pounds and Griboedov’s museum. Volunteers will have an opportunity to visit all cultural objects of Khmelita and its branches. Also several excursions will be organized.

The workcamp is run in the cooperation with Griboedov State Historical-Cultural and Natural Museum-Reserve "Khmelita". It is the oldest surviving nobility estates Smolensk land. Khmelita represents a huge memorial, historical and architectural value. Aleksandr Griboedov is very famous Russian writer, poet, composer and diplomat. In XIX century he usually visited his relatives in Khmelita.

The volunteers will • take care of plants (plant transplantation, weeding, cutting of bushes) • tidy the territory after cutting (grass and branches) • assist with cultural and educational work: conducting excursions (as well as excursions in English), assistance in holding events • help with the promotion of the events of the Botanical Garden on social media, preparation of photo and video materials, etc.; The important part of the work camp will consist of filming video diaries and telling stories about volunteers’ experience in the work camp. Volunteers also can prepare some educational activities about voluntary work for the volunteers of our Center “UNIVOL” (games, workshops, movie discussions, sharing your personal volunteering experience).

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will be accommodated it the student dormitory “Parus” (2-3 people per room). “Parus” is located on the territory of Tomsk State University campus near the lake, which in the winter is the largest ice rink in the city. The infrastructure at the dorm is good, warm showers are included. Food: food will be served 3 times a day in the cafeteria. It is also possible to cook at the dorm’s kitchen. You will be provided with necessary kitchen equipment. You are welcome to bring traditional recipes and goodies from home country.

Lage und Freizeit

There are a lot of opportunities for free time: museums, events, nightclubs, outdoor activities. Some guided museum visits will be provided. Tomsk is situated in a very heart of Siberia which also provides opportunities for traveling.

During the workcamp volunteers will work at the Siberian Botanical Garden that situated at the territory of Tomsk State University, which is located in the city center. The territory of the Botanical Garden is a beautiful and magical place. Garden now is a huge botanical science center. It was founded in 1880 on an area of 1.2 hectares and it is the first botanical institution in the Asian part of Russia. Collection funds include over 6,000 species, forms and varieties of living plants. Tomsk is a pretty small and cozy city that is considered to be one of the most popular and oldest cities in Western Siberia. Now it is a popular educational, research and innovative center, which has a very rich and interesting history and many places to visit (museums, theatres, parks).

The project aims at assisting in preservation of the World Heritage site by doing environmental physical work at the Botanical Garden that is a part of the Solovki heritage. Volunteers themselves will learn about history and uniqueness of the Solovetsky Islands Ensemble and help enrich biodiversity of the Islands’ ecosystem. During the project volunteers will work at the Botanical Garden founded by the monks in 1822, namely: digging ditches, plant, weed and fertilize trees, herbs and flowers of cultural and historical significance (more on that will be provided in the information list). Additionally, international volunteers are welcome to organise raising awareness activities on the importance of heritage preservation among locals, tourists and visitors.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will live in tents in a well-equipped camping of the garden. Food will be provided; volunteers will cook by themselves as a group: every day we will have a cooking team, which will cook on the fire; products will be provided. Please, bring your sleeping bag!

The Solovetsky archipelago comprises of six islands in the western part of the White Sea less then 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle. They have been inhabited since the 5th century B.C. and important traces of human presence from as far back as the 5th millennium B.C. can be found there. Since 15th century Solovetsky Archipelago with its monastery was a religious citadel of the Russian North, there are several churches dating back to 16th-19th century.

This project is organized in cooperation with Solovki State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, which is well-known due to Solovetsky Monastery. Since 15th century Solovetsky Archipelago with its monastery was a religious citadel in the Russian North before being closed by Soviet government in 1920 and turned into a special Soviet prison and labour camp (1926–1939), the Gulag, - for some people the site still reminds of this horrible period in USSR history, a symbol of Stalin’s repressions.

Anforderungen

Volunteers are going to live on the campsite of the Botanical Garden. There you’ll need some regular clothes for work and rest. But as soon as we decide to have an excursion and visit some monastery or church you will have to follow the rules of the place. Girls should wear long skirts, which should cover their knees. Their heads should be also covered by headscarf or something like this, also your arms should be covered with long sleeves. Boys shouldn’t wear T-shirts and shorts in the monastery, their legs and arms should be covered. They don’t have to cover their head while visiting church.

Arbeit

Volunteers work from 9 till 15.30 with a break for lunch. They do environmental work for preservation of a large historical garden of the reserve – collect branches, work in yards and greenhouses.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will stay in a hotel, 15 minutes walk from the museum. There are showers, bathrooms, beds and tables in each room. Three meals will be provided for the volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

On the territory of the estate there are unique historical buildings surrounded by forests, gardens and picturesque landscapes. Walking in this place transports visitors into the world of Russian noble estate of the XIX century. Museum organizes a cultural program – excursion to the museum of Leo Tolstoy, a biking tour around the estate, tour to the exhibition of folk art, master-classes in ceramics and floral design, etc. There is a hall in the hotel where volunteers will meet up in the evenings to relax and have fun. There are more areas outside where they can also spend free time or visit cities around during free days.

This project is organized in cooperation with the State memorial and natural reserve «Museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy «Yasnaya Polyana» which is one of the largest museum-reserves in the country. This is where the famous writer Leo Tolstoy wrote his masterpieces such as «War and Peace» and «Anna Karenina». The territory is huge; there is a genuine manor house of ХVIII-ХIХ centuries, Leo Tolstoy's grave, parks, gardens, forests, meadows and agricultural land.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will be accommodated in guesthouses (or host families in rare cases of absence of public accommodation in some villages). Volunteers might need to bring sleeping bags with them. In some cases, food will be organized in canteens or cafes, and in other volunteers will cook for themselves in teams according to rota. Travel from place to place will be via mini-bus.

Lage und Freizeit

Would be a good idea to take playing cards, board games, musical instruments. There is a possibility for knowing more about local history and culture of Russian villages, visiting museums and communicating with local communities. Also, after or before the camp, volunteers can visit the capital - Moscow city, which is located near with Nizhny Novgorod, visit a lot of historical or modern museums, summer festivals and architectural squares.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The camp is organized by the regional centre of volunteering development. The main idea is to visit 5 remote towns and villages in the Nizhny Novgorod region, empower and inspire local youth, and exchange best social practices and ideas. Volunteers are going to travel around the region, meeting local people, taking part in voluntary actions, organizing events for local youth, and documenting everything, in photos, videos, or blog articles. During the 8 days of the camp, the volunteers will visit 5 different places, helping local communities. Intercultural exchange will be a very important part of the camp: volunteers are expected to prepare some presentations\national games\dances for the local teenagers and young adults. The local communities will be happy to provide an authentic Russian experience and show you warm hospitality!

Anforderungen

English will be the working language for the camp, but any knowledge of Russian is more than welcome, as people usually don’t speak English.
