Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This project is actively working for SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) since 2018 in this place. MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006. Yayasan Chow Kit (YCK) was founded in 2011 to run the school providing education, cultural workshops, leisure activities and lunch to the children aged 6-18 who are not allowed to go to public schools due to the lack of citizenship. Many of them are refugees or immigrants from Myanmar, Indonesia, etc. while others have different backgrounds in their families such as poverty, drug addiction, child abuse, prostitution, etc. YCK operate in partnership with Ministry of Women and Child Welfare and got new rooms on the 3rd to 5th floors of the big building in 2025. The workcamps have been successful and in 2025, 59 vols. from Japan, Italy, Hong Kong and Spain joined 6 workcamps with creating great impact! You may wonder if the volunteering for short term can be useful for their education and even worry if they feel too sad and tired to repeat hi and bye. But children have got greatly motivated to study by having international big sisters/ brothers as one of their role models and felt happiness and encouragement by having reliable adult friends since they had been terribly neglected by the society.

Weitere Infos

Study theme - Refugees and other disadvantaged children in each country. Local SDGs (2030 goals) of YCK Participation fee - 1,100 MYR (237 EUR by the rate on 2026 Feb. 14) for 14 days, 850 MYR (184 EUR) for 9 days including the weekend and 750 MYR (162 EUR) to be paid on your arrivals. 10% less for repeaters of MOVE workcamps or those from less expensive countries. Other - The local camp leader will be a lady who was a student of YCK before! There might be also a co-leader from Japan. 1st week vols. (Aug. 02-08) can extend their stay till Aug. 10 and 2nd week vols. (Aug. 09-15) can start their stay from Aug. 07 if they want to join free days activities in the weekend. The Local SDGs made by the project leader (in Japanese, but you can see the pictures!) https://www.nice1.gr.jp/files/user/reports/YckAyaka2023.pdf

Anforderungen

Very high motivation and responsibility to work with the disadvantaged kids and to respect local culture/ way. Adaptable to the simple conditions such as hot climate without using AC in the night and sleeping on the hard floor. Good manner to keep the places clean and proper, sensitive behaviors especially to the children (the guidance will be done by YCK).
