The camp is a collaboration between IBO Italy, the Municipality of Boccioleto and La Sermenza Association.La Sermenza Association, started its activities in 2015. It is named after the Sermenza stream, a tributary of the Sesia. The association s mission is to contribute to the enhancement of centuries-old dry stone mountain building. In particular, the dry stone walls found along the ancient infrastructure (paths and mule tracks). The field project planned for 2023 involves the recovery of a section of an ancient trail that connects Fervento di Boccioleto with Rimasco in the municipality of Alto Sermenza. It is a work that, in our intentions, should stimulate local administrators to plan the recovery of the entire ancient mid-mountain route that connected all the hamlets of the la Val Sermenza, from Balmuccia to Rima. A Slow Tourism project to enhance the paths, mule tracks and villages of Val Sermenza. Hamlets and villages , testimonies of historic stone and wood construction, of considerable value and charm that obvious abandonment has not eroded.

The workcamp is an international experience, giving the volunteers the opportunity to meet young people from all over the world. In terms of communication, the main watchword at the Center is diversity and open-mindedness. This is your chance to discover different cultures, and ideas and exchange experiences. The work accomplished on each camp is very important, the volunteers themselves are the main reason for Agape is able to keep organizing more and more projects every year. Thanks to a group of people living there all year long (the so-called Resident group), but also to the ecumenical and international community coming to help, the center has an effect on its visitors' life. As a volunteer, you will be asked to work with the Resident Group. Every Resident has a sector for which they are responsible (kitchen, cleaning, bar, maintenance,... and so on), in which you will help them, and each of the Residents will be there to help you and support you. The Centre will organize every year's national camps in the place and the international group will work in parallel with the permanent residence to guarantee the running of all other project schedules. Volunteers will help in the following tasks: kitchen, meal service (tables and dishes), cleaning, maintenance, bartending, and babysitting.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be host in 3-4 bed bedrooms with shared toilets on the floor. The meals are typical Italian Mediterranean cuisine, with limited consumption of meat for environmental reasons, and the possibility of choices for those who require a special diet. There is a washing machine available for the volunteers.

Situation, loisirs

Agape is in the Alps, close to Prali commune. Games, discussions, and outings can be organized during free time. Programmed activities (especially in the evening) are most of the time open to the volunteers, as long as they do not clash with work commitments. The place is beautiful but isolated, though you will stay together with many international participants attending the meetings of Agape.

Partenaire

It’s been ten years that Lunaria and Agape are working side by side to create a space where people can meet in harmony. Agape International Ecumenical Centre is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, being for 70 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, acceptance and validation of differences. A resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain fundamental. Please visit www.agapecentroecumenico.org to see which are the activity programs for this period.
By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: QualityEducation-SDG4 and GenderEquality-SDG5, two of the pillars of Agape mission.
Every year many people, with different ages and religious, cultural and political backgrounds, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. The work camp will support the management and support the meetings on issues of political, social, cultural and religious interest. The center is volunteers-driven, and its management is in your hands.

Remarques

Volunteers should come ready to accomplish each task and with an open mind. Volunteers before arrival should contact the Agape secretariat before arriving since travel to Agape can be complicated.

The workcamps in Carignano were started to restore some rooms in a building in the historical center of the town. Through this project volunteers have the opportunity to recover Carignano’s architectural heritage and enjoy the environment whilst meeting young people from all over the world. Moreover “Giovani Insieme” organizes different local events such as summer camps for local children, cultural exhibitions, etc. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal: Climate Action-SDG13

Partenaire

The volunteer camp is the result of IBO Italy s collaboration with the Community of Augustinian Nuns of the Monastery of St. Augustine in Rossano, in the province of Cosenza (Calabria). It is the youngest monastery in Italy: in June 2009, a group of nuns, who left from the Eremo di Lecceto, an ancient Augustinian monastery near Siena, came to Rossano, on the Ionian coast of Cosenza, Calabria, to start a new monastery here. Monasteries do not respond to a particular need, to a material need to be met; their presence reminds us that before doing comes being , and that before the anxiety of producing we exist for a gratuitousness that precedes us. This is what the function of a monastery is meant to be: to offer those who wish it a pause for the heart, through silence and the rhythms of prayer, in an atmosphere of fraternity and friendship; also, to offer the ease of listening to the great questions that we carry within us: where we come from, who we are; where we are going. On 28 August 2019, after years of waiting and work, the St Augustine Monastery in Rossano was inaugurated: it is the first female Augustinian monastery of contemplative life in southern Italy. Work is currently underway to create a botanical garden in the vast outdoor area, with its splendid view of the Ionian Sea: a project that wishes to be part of the spirituality of integral ecology inspired by the principles of Pope Francis Encyclical Laudato si .Camp volunteers will be involved in maintenance work at the guest quarters of the S. Agostino Monastery in Rossano.

Cevo (province of Brescia, Italy) is a small mountain village of 800 inhabitants located inside the Adamello Regional Park, at an altitude of 1,100 m. Placed at the junction of two valleys closed by the head of Adamello glacier, it offers a barely anthropic, natural environment which counts on a reduced tourism flow. An atmosphere foreign to urban chaos where time seems to flow slowly, ideal to hike surrounded by nature. Most local people do not speak English fluently.

It is next to the sea so volunteers can spend their free time at the beach, do water sports, snorkeling, etc... Isola is a coast-town close to Palermo and connected with bus/train. Palermo is a beautiful city where there are many sights and places to spend the free time.

Partenaire

The Isola delle Femmine is a natural reserve established in 1997 by the Sicilian Region and managed by LIPU (Italian league for birds protection) since 1998. This little uninhabited island is located in a strategic place for the migration of a specific species of bird called Gabbiano reale (Larus michahellis), this area allows them to rest from migration and to grow numerically. Due to financial cutting, the reserve suffers from maintenance and the support received along the year is not as much as should be provided. This is the reason why InformaGiovani with LIPU organize together every year workcamps to support the maintenance of the natural reserve and to sensitize the local community towards the place.
