The working camp was born from the collaboration of IBO Italia with the Association I Ragazzi di San Lorenzo Bellizzi (IRSLB) an association that takes its name from the same country as the fundamental objectives are the safeguarding of the old and the development of the new of the territory.San Lorenzo is a small city located within the Pollino Park, where a large part of the economy depends on pensions, small businesses, restaurants and seasonal summer tourist jobs. It is also affected by a strong depopulation and therefore aging of the remaining population, like many villages in southern Italy. An important resource for the place is the maintenance of natural resources and the recovery of ancient productions and skills. The recovery of these traditional activities is very important for the city in terms of economic, social and environmental balance. For several years IRSLB, in collaboration with the Municipality, has been working to combat the abandonment of rural areas. More and more olive groves are being abandoned in the municipal area because the elderly owners are no longer able to take care of them, due to lack of interest, others have emigrated, others have died. One of the goals of the field will be in fact the recovery of abandoned olive groves according to the principles of Agroforestry and syntropic agriculture and the enhancement of the ancient local arts.Furthermore, a Biodiversity project will be activated to map the biodiversity of the surroundings of the Pollino Park. The works will be carried out together with IRSLB as administration and with local associations (civil protection, civil protection group, Museum of Rural Art).

Piano dell'Acqua: A Serene Getaway Near Ballo, Zafferana Etnea

Nestled about 700 meters above sea level and a stone's throw from Ballo, a charming hamlet of Zafferana Etnea, lies the tranquil flat area known as Piano dell'Acqua. Its name, which translates to Water Plane, is derived from several water emergence points located along the Valle di San Giacomo's slope. These springs provide water to the towns below, making this area a crucial water source.

Piano dell'Acqua serves as a crossroads for several hiking paths, including the 704 and 724 routes and the picturesque Sentiero delle Ginestre. From here, adventurers can embark on trail 742, leading to the summit of Monte Calanna. This peak offers an exceptional vantage point over the expansive Valle del Bove, providing hikers with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

For those looking to explore this serene destination, the nearest major airport is Catania-Fontanarossa CTA Airport, situated approximately 40 km from Zafferana Etnea. Reaching Piano dell'Acqua requires a two-bus journey: the first leg from the airport to the central station aboard the Alibus, which runs until 24:30 and stops at Piazza Giovanni XXIII, followed by the AST bus heading towards Zafferana Etnea, with the last departure at 20:30. This journey offers a blend of convenience and adventure for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and tranquility of Piano dell'Acqua.

“Overseas” is a non-profit association and NGO set up in Spilamberto (Modena) in 1971 to promote the global development of communities in non-European countries through voluntary work and international cooperation, support for local community organisations and groups, and long-distance solidarity for children and young people in need.
Overseas has always attached great importance to the assumption of lifestyles oriented towards moderation in consumption, solidarity 'without borders' and has made recovery and reuse practices the main way of seeking economic resources for the construction of its facilities.
The work camp takes place at the association's headquarter, which consists of a residential unit and a shed located in a large green area on the outskirts of the village.
Participants will stay in the Overseas House and carry out their service in the facilities and spaces used for the promotion of reusing and recycling and near the Natural Garden 3.0, cultivated according to permaculture methods by people with disabilities and the association “Insieme a noi tutti”.
The participants will have the opportunity to approach experiences that try to promote the culture of sustainability in the dimension of daily life: intercultural living together, moderation of consumption, taking care of the environment and of the community.
At the start of the camp the possible activities will be presented and together with the participants a working plan will be defined according to the attitudes, abilities and the wish to lean new things. Moments of exchange and confrontation about the experiences and the topics of the Agenda 2030 are also planned.
An integral part of the camp is respect for the environment, values, traditions and ways of living in the Overseas House in which other people reside and the association's activities are carried out. An extra dose of empathy, understanding and adaptability is required of everyone in order to experience multicultural dialogue!

The workcamp is an international experience, giving the volunteers the opportunity to meet young people from all over the world. In terms of communication, the main watchword at the Center is diversity and open-mindedness. This is your chance to discover different cultures, and ideas and exchange experiences. The work accomplished on each camp is very important, the volunteers themselves are the main reason for Agape is able to keep organizing more and more projects every year. Thanks to a group of people living there all year long (the so-called Resident group), but also to the ecumenical and international community coming to help, the center has an effect on its visitors' life. As a volunteer, you will be asked to work with the Resident Group. Every Resident has a sector for which they are responsible (kitchen, cleaning, bar, maintenance,... and so on), in which you will help them, and each of the Residents will be there to help you and support you. You will have 6-7 working hours per day. The Centre will organize every year's national camps in the place and the international group will work in parallel with the permanent residence to guarantee the running of all other project schedules. Volunteers will help in the following tasks: kitchen, meal service (tables and dishes), cleaning, maintenance, bartending, and babysitting.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be host in 3-4 bed bedrooms with shared toilets on the floor. The meals are typical Italian Mediterranean cuisine, with limited consumption of meat for environmental reasons, and the possibility of choices for those who require a special diet. There is a washing machine available for the volunteers.

Situation, loisirs

Agape is in the Alps, close to Prali commune. Games, discussions, and outings can be organized during free time. Programmed activities (especially in the evening) are most of the time open to the volunteers, as long as they do not clash with work commitments. The place is beautiful but isolated, though you will stay together with many international participants attending the meetings of Agape.

Partenaire

PARTNER : It’s been ten years that Lunaria and Agape are working side by side to create a space where people can meet in harmony. Agape International Ecumenical Centre is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, being for 70 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, acceptance and validation of differences. A resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain fundamental. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: QualityEducation-SDG4 and GenderEquality-SDG5, two of the pillars of Agape mission.

PROJECT : Every year many people, with different ages and religious, cultural and political backgrounds, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. The work camp will support the management and support the meetings on issues of political, social, cultural and religious interest. The center is volunteers-driven, and its management is in your hands.

Activities to restore and secure a path of historical-environmental-cultural interest around the historic city centre. After the promotion of a project for the revaluation of such a path called The Way of the Greeks , we would like to count on the support of volunteers for the cleaning and initial securing of such a path that already exists. The activities planned also include the design and production of information material and digital content for the creation of an app with QR reader, which will allow those who walk along the route to learn about the places. The activity will be run between 8.30 and 12.30 and from 16.30 to afternoon due to the high temperatures. Apart from that, volunteers will be free to carry out activities on their own or some activities proposed by the local host association. There will be a morning briefing to organise the day s activities, as well as an end of day debrief.

Logement et nourriture

The accommodation will be organised in a community facility (sports hall or one of the school gyms) with access to toilets and showers. In such a facility there will be camping mats. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags. If volunteers prefer to sleep outside these facilities, they have to bring their own tents. (tents are not provided). A camping kitchen is provided either in the accommodation or in a nearby location with tables to eat meals. NO INTERNET in the accommodation, however, the internet access is available at the Association office. Water is drinkable and some dispensers will be provided - therefore - it is recommended to have a refillable bottle.

Situation, loisirs

Excursions are planned in the local area with local families who will host the volunteers for lunch and dinner, as well as language and cultural exchange evenings with the young people involved in the association.

Our association works in an inland rural area of one of the smallest and unknown regions of the South of Italy: Basilicata.Genzano is a small village based on agricultural tradition, where youth either emigrate and do not return, or remain there but without many social activities. We have been putting many efforts to promote little local events and projects since 2003. Many changes happened and we are observing, after the pandemic, a return of the local youth community to public participation. As an organization we try to launch projects that enhance the sense of belonging and preserve the strong identity, promote social inclusion and participation. Still, we struggle to find opportunities to promote their stronger security as individuals part of the society. The volunteering activity remains far from the majority of them in most cases. So we thought that bringing such an international possibility, open up to people showing interest for our little community, and invest their time in a local project, could produce a cascade effect. Beside that, we wish this could be an opportunity for volunteers to get to know a part of Italy that really preserves its own identity and traditions, and has a great nature and history.APS Spazigiovani operates in the local context with cultural and social promotion activities. It is involved in the implementation of leisure activities for the local community: manual workshops, creative recycling, social gardening, cultural events, among other projects promoted over the years. The NGO has always been focused on the inclusion of people who are disadvantaged in some way or have different abilities. As such, we encourage their regular participation in the project activities we support. The project will certainly be carried out with the patronage and support of the Municipality and in collaboration with some other local associations with which we already work on a daily basis: sport activities, Folkloric Group, Pro-Traditions Committee, Band Complex, Social Cooperatives, among others.

The Legambiente Geo A.P.S. association was established in Atessa in 1989, fueled by the enthusiasm and commitment of a group of young volunteers. For over 30 years, our association has been dedicated to enhancing the environmental and cultural quality of our region to meet the community's needs for participation, cohesion, knowledge, and identity. In recent years, we have combated waste trafficking, land consumption, and fought for the protection of the Sangro River and the environmental quality of the Val di Sangro. Our devoted and resolute efforts have led to the establishment of the SIC (Site of Community Importance) Monte Pallano and Lecceta d'Isca d'Archi area, a unique place where environmental and archaeological excellences coexist.

Legambiente, in this area, operates the Casanatura Fontecampana center, a venue where people of all ages can come together to share their passion for nature and the environment and expand their knowledge through various activities. Since 2017, thanks to the dedication of volunteers, Legambiente has also been managing the recycling center in Atessa.
