Travail

The workcamps in Carignano were started to restore some rooms in a building in the historical center of the town. Through this project volunteers have the opportunity to recover Carignano’s architectural heritage and enjoy the environment whilst meeting young people from all over the world. Moreover “Giovani Insieme” organizes different local events such as summer camps for local children, cultural exhibitions, etc. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal: Climate Action-SDG13
WORK : Volunteers will work on the creation of some carnival costumes for historical tradition of carnival in Carignano and we’ll create small cart for the parade and also to be exhibited at the festival called “Festa di mezza estate” in which volunteers will be part of the working team the last two nights in the second weekend of the workcamp. There will also be an activity in a protected area cutting bamboo to protect the endemic vegetation and use it for the carnival activities. For an amazing experience of exchange, they could talk about carnival traditions in their countries and also teach the volunteers typical songs or dances. The local team of volunteers will support the international ones for translation, but, don’t forget to be flexible in this. Every week the volunteers will go once to a retirement home to present their countries. Some of Carignano's families will host the volunteers for a dinner in their home to share their culture and way of life. Moreover, for the first week of the workcamp, some Italian volunteers could be involved from an association called AU.DI.DO (autonomy for disabled people) so be willing to work with people with disabilities.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be hosted in an ancient building (under restoring) with beds, communal bathrooms with 2 showers and hot water and a kitchen. Bedrooms are provided with 4 to 6 beds per room. The volunteers are responsible for the cleaning and cooking. Food is provided by the host organization. Volunteers must be equipped with a sleeping bag (or sheets), pillowcase and towels.

Situation, loisirs

The town of Carignano (8700 inhabitants) is situated on the left bank of the river Po approximately 20 Km from Torino and within the Regional Parco Fluviale (park of the river). Its center is of typical "piemontese" style, characterized by an ancient core with medieval archways and a baroque cathedral. The town's surroundings offer sites of architectural and naturalistic interest, it is also possible to reach Turin easily, as there are frequent coaches to the city. During the free time there are many exciting things to do such as visit the open market of Carignano and take part in some local events. On the weekends it will be possible for the group to organize a visit to Turin (there is a bus to and from Turin), visiting the Egyptian museum, the cinema museum, MAO museum of oriental art, the Holy Shroud etc. The costs of the FREE TIMES activities are not covered by the project.

Partenaire

The camp is organized by Lunaria in collaboration with “Giovani Insieme”. The association is composed of young people for young people founded in October 1998 in Carignano with the aim of protecting, promoting and enhancing artistic, historical and architectural heritage, nature and the environment, by proposing summer work camps for young volunteers from all over Europe.

The Robbe are small settlements in the countryside of Milena (CL), from which the present village has grown. At the end of the nineteenth century, the land was leased and, given the great distance from other towns and the difficulty of communication, the peasants built modest rural dwellings in the countryside, along the trazzere or near water sources. These were built in clusters called Robbe to not be isolated and to have access to drinking water. Volunteers will create photo-cultural installations (wooden totems to which they will attach photos and inscribe the name of the Robbe and local iconic features). Other activities related to the urban regeneration of the town of Milena will be carried out by volunteers. From July 11 to 13, they will also support the setup and logistics of a three-day rock music festival, preparing the outdoor area of the Magazzino Culturale and carrying out minor maintenance tasks. The initiative aims to engage the local community through art, music, and culture.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will live in an apartment and sleep in shared rooms with 3-4 beds, divided by gender. The volunteers, divided into groups and working in shifts, will take care of the management and cleaning of the house and the Magazzino, and they will prepare meals in a common kitchen. All meals will be prepared and eaten in a common room in the Magazzino.

Situation, loisirs

Milena is a small village in the province of Caltanissetta. The village is located in a rural mountainous context at 423 m above sea level. Like most remote Sicilian villages, it is served by a limited number of public transport services, so the organization of free time could be limited to visiting nearby places or organizing excursions out of town.

Partenaire

Circo pace e bene is a cultural association that carries out activities of various types aimed at the most vulnerable people in the Milena area (children, people with disabilities, young people, the elderly, the unemployed, migrants). The organization mainly carries out artistic and cultural activities and realizes different projects to raise awareness in schools of all levels. The association was founded in 2015 in Milena, Sicily, by a group of local people with experience in volunteering and international mobility. The aim of the association is to encourage locals to be active in order to bring about the changes they want to see. The association represents a breakthrough for the locals and the territory where it is located, through their commitment and support. Its work contributes to the enrichment of the Sicilian culture and territory. The NGO runs a space called Magazzino in Milena, which is used to promote cultural events, festivals, active participation and advocacy.

The proposal stems from the meeting between IBO Italia and the Social Promotion Association "I Tetragonauti," founded in 2003 and today made up of professionals and volunteers with expertise in educational pedagogy and maritime experience. The main objective of I Tetragonauti is to implement social and educational interventions and projects aimed at minors, minors in distress, those with difficulties, and people with disabilities, identifying the marine environment and sailing boats as the privileged contexts and tools for their work.

The project thus involves a volunteer experience aboard a sailboat.

Why this experience?
A sea journey has strong educational and formative characteristics: sailing allows you to discover different horizons and possibilities, passions and interests. It helps you learn new things and stimulates the discovery of new aspects of yourself. Living in direct contact with the sea offers a privileged opportunity to get to know it, learn to respect it, and discover its rules and beauty. Being surrounded by the sea, day and night, will make you feel a deep connection with nature. The weather elements and the various forms of marine life will be our travel companions.
Being part of a crew, sharing with others the emotions of sailing, the responsibilities, the enjoyable situations, and the difficult ones, allows you to enter a new dimension based on collaboration, camaraderie, and mutual trust.
Community life on the boat is the privileged space for collaborative action, the ideal environment to experiment with relationships involving rules, roles, duties, tasks, and responsibilities.
The journey is undoubtedly the most intense educational moment.
It’s the time to detach from comforts and securities in order to enter a different reality, sometimes challenging, which inevitably forces you to let go of your own restraints, your own resistance, and to engage with others and with differences.

The activities will alternate between moments on board and on land. During the week, there will be cleaning and maintenance work on the beaches, which will be reached by boat. Special attention will be given to the issue of plastic usage and plastic in the sea, participating in the “Back to Life” project in collaboration with the Genoa Aquarium and Livorno of Plastic in the Sea.

Additionally, life on board will be managed communally through rotating kitchen and cleaning shifts. Through the food pyramid and the exchange of typical recipes from participants' countries of origin, there will be discussions on education and intercultural food practices. Thanks to the partnership with the Food Bank of Tuscany, we will also address the theme of food sustainability, policies, and virtuous behaviors to avoid food waste.
Each day will start with a warm-up session: some simple physical exercises to get moving. During the navigation, everyone will be involved as crew members in maneuvers (steering, sails, anchor) and some basic knowledge (boat nomenclature, winds and courses, main knots).
Work sessions will be balanced with free time for swimming, SUP, snorkeling, and walks.

Embarking in Olbia, during the week we will sail to Tavolara/Golfo Aranci, Gulf of Arzachena, Caprera, La Maddalena, Budelli and Razzoli, then return to Olbia. In each location there will be time ashore for trekking, environmental and cultural activities.
No nights in port are planned.
The exact itinerary will be determined based on weather and sea conditions.

FOOD AND GASTRONOMIC SECTION
The same applies as above for special cases (allergies, celiac, etc.). Please notify us in advance for proper organization.

ENVIRONMENT
All personal hygiene and body care products must be biodegradable since they will eventually end up in the sea (soap, toothpaste, shampoo). We will provide shampoo and shower gel for the shower. If you bring other products, make sure they are labeled “biodegradable” (not just “sustainable,” “100% green,” “made with recycled/recyclable plastic”).
Try to avoid single-use plastic bottles and containers, and prefer soap bars instead. Try to avoid single-use plastic bottles and containers, and prefer soap bars instead.

Travail

Volunteers will be asked to take care of pathways in the area surrounding Castello Dell’Acqua. These paths are very important because each of them leads to old mills and ethnographic sites. Moreover, being near to a natural park they are used by excursionists. Volunteers will have to cut and collect the grass, remove shrubs and assist local volunteers’ groups who are going to collaborate to the maintenance of the woods. In the period of time in which the camp will take place, some running competitions in the area might take place. Volunteers might be asked to signalize the paths and assist the organization of running competitions. The volunteers will be working for approximately 5 hours per day, depending also on the weather.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be hosted in an apartment in the city hall of Castello dell'Acqua. The apartment has 8 beds but there is enough space to add a folding bed. The diet will be vegetarian.

Situation, loisirs

Volunteers will be shown all the places and costumes of the local farming culture. Teglio, a well-known locality famous for the making of Pizzoccheri, is near Castello dell’Acqua, as well as Tirano. People living in Castello dell’Acqua are really looking forward to welcoming volunteers from all over the world and will gladly help them with their tasks. The group will also enjoy some excursions in the surrounding woods.

The closest airports are: Milan Bergamo Airport, Milano Malpensa Airport and Milano Linate airport. From there you can take shuttle buses or a train called Malpensa express (from Malpensa airport) that will take you to Milano Centrale station. From there you have to take the train to Tirano (not Torino!!) and get off in Tresenda-Aprica-Teglio railway station. null

Partenaire

Legambiente Lecco is made up of young and dynamic people, mostly under 30. The main activity of this local group is the management of an eco-hostel in Monte Barro Park in Galbiate. It is also involved in campaigns against food waste and clean-ups, it organizes Erasmus+ projects and promotes sustainable mobility with the project Piedibus in Lecco.

Remarques

In order to better enjoy this experience volunteers are required to have a great will to walk and work (such as hiking boots and mountain shirts, for example). Volunteers will be involved in working activities for about 30 hours per week, and will have to cook for themselves (the food will be provided). A basic knowledge of English language is also required.

Work will be run in the little uninhabited island in the middle of the sea every morning. Volunteers will take a boat every day to join this place, therefore, it is compulsory to be able to swim for safety reason Volunteers will support natural reserve s staff in: restoration of the flora by planting of new plants (this action is part of over thirty-year plan put in practice by Lipu and volunteers), and maintenance of existing vegetation (watering plants), maintenance of the protected area (re-building stone paths) cleaning of the protected area from litter (the area is exposed to different marine streams that bring waste from the sea) cooking meals for the group in couple and following shifts other tasks. Work will be done mainly in the morning and in case of wind or rain it will be postponed. Work is manual and demands physical effort, it is also tiring due to hot temperature and Southern sun (hat and sunblock are compulsory). Study part: Workshops on environmental topics can be implemented during afternoons following volunteers interest (e.g. marine litter and related-environmental disasters, reduction of plastic and the impact of incorrect waste management on seas, etc.).

Logement et nourriture

Please be aware of a very basic condition provided in a camping area. ACCOMMODATION. is provided at CAMPING LA PLAYA. ONLY 2 big tents 1 smaller will be provided for the whole group. Camp beds will be provided per person. Important Volunteers need to bring two single bed sheet: one to be layed on the camp beds and another for covering oneself. If you need a pillow for sleeping please bring it with you (inflatable travel pillow is recommended). A small fridge will be provided mainly for storing water. FOOD. Grochery shopping is provided and volunteers will be responsible for preparing meals (lunch and dinner) divided in groups and following shifts; Toilets and showers are provided in sharing with guests in the camping area. Washing machine is available at the camping as extra costs (to be paid by volunteers if needed).

Situation, loisirs

Isola delle Femmine is an Italian town in North-Western Sicily, in the province of Palermo. It is next to the sea so volunteers can spend their free time at the beach, do water sports, snorkeling, etc... Isola is a coast-town close to Palermo and connected with bus/train. Palermo is a beautiful city where there are many sights and places to spend the free time.

Partenaire

The Isola delle Femmine is a nature reserve established in 1997 by the Sicilian Region and managed by LIPU (Italian league for birds protection) since then. This little uninhabited island is located in a strategic place for the migration of a specific species of bird called Gabbiano reale (Larus michahellis), this area allows them to rest from migration and to grow numerically. The regular support received along the year is not sufficient for the maintenancee needed, this is the reason why InformaGiovani with LIPU organize together every year volunteering projects to support the maintenance of the natural reserve and to sensitize the local community towards the place.

Ability to swim is compulsory for safety reason. ML with proposal for a workshop. Registration to the European Youth Portal is needed - https://youth.europa.eu/solidarity/young-people/about_enEuropean IMPORTANT. ESC, No fee is due to sending organisation. Erasmus Programme Countries only.

Remarques

Since volunteers will take a boat every day the ability to swim is compulsory for safety reason. Volunteers need to be high interested in environment issue, protection of sea and coast. High sense of adaptation and flexibility is demanded Volunteers need to suggest 2 topics related to environment over to organise a workshop during the project. Volunteers have to apply writing a ML containing an idea for a workshop on environmental issues, a short text describing the type of activity and the topic you want to address is fine. (It could be a game, a role play, a panel discussion, a debate or something else). It doesn t have to be in depth, as they will be supported by the camp leader and IG before the VT.Last season we often had bad weather at sea, which made it impossible to work on the island, so we started to hold workshops and it worked well and attracted a lot of interest from the volunteers.

The municipality of Amendolara, located in the Upper Ionian Sea with 2,700 inhabitants, boasts a rich historical heritage ranging from Greek colonization to medieval times. The territory stretches from the hillside, at an altitude of 400 meters, to the 8 km of coastline. The municipal administration, together with the association “Mediterraneo Interiore,” is committed to the historical, cultural and environmental enhancement of the town. Of particular note is the Secca di Amendolara, a marine area of protected biodiversity, located about 12 miles from the coast. A detachment of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station operates here, studying the marine ecosystem. The shoal is characterized by seabed depths between 19 and 40 meters, with rocky and coralligenous outcrops, formed by the erosion of an ancient submerged island, perhaps identifiable with the mythical Monte Sardo, mentioned in 17th-18th century nautical charts. According to legend, it may be the island of Ogigia, where the nymph Calypso detained Ulysses in the Odyssey.
The municipal administration, in collaboration with the Assoc. “Mediterraneo Interiore,” promotes activities for environmental protection and historical-landscape recovery, focusing on the enhancement of the territory and its cultural identity.

During this camp, volunteers will be engaged in maintenance and care works on the paths within the protected area of the Appennino Lucano Val d'Agri Lagonegrese National Park and the village of Sasso di Castalda. In particular, the camp will focus on the Basilicata Frassati Path (within the protected area) and the Sentiero dell'Ascolto (Listening Path) (within the village).

Alongside the path maintenance activities, there will also be activities to learn more about the climate crisis and get to know the area that will host the international volunteer camp; there will also be activities to get to know the local Legambiente groups active in the Basilicata region.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be accommodated in an Environmental Education Centre, with self-managed kitchen. Meals will be mainly vegetarian/vegan. Accommodation is also equipped with a washing machine.

Situation, loisirs

The village of Sasso di Castalda is one of the 29 municipalities that make up the Lucano Val d'Agri Lagonegrese Apennine Park, nestled in the mountains of the Basilicata region.

The village is located at an altitude of 949 m a.s.l. and is surrounded by woods and beech forests, criss-crossed by easy-to-travel paths immersed in nature.

The territory of Sasso di Castalda has been inhabited since Roman times, although the village was officially founded around 1068 A.D. as a stronghold of the Normans.

Volunteers can reach Potenza (the regional capital of Basilicata) and then travel to Sasso di Castalda by shuttles organised by the host association. It is possible to reach Potenza by train (Trenitalia ‘Potenza Centrale’ station) or by bus from Rome, Naples or Foggia. The nearest airports are Naples Capodichino, Bari Palese and Rome Fiumicino international airport. It's preferable to arrive in Potenza in the 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. slot null

Partenaire

Legambiente Basilicata was founded in 1990 and brings together all the association's local groups in the region. Environmental and biodiversity protection, scientific environmentalism and the fight against oil exploitation in Basilicata are the main battles of the regional association.

Legambiente Basilicata is also involved in environmental education activities (in schools of all levels) and the dissemination of the values of peace, non-violence, hospitality and social solidarity in the region.

Volunteer camps are an important tool to make our activities known also outside the region and to implement projects for the protection and care of the territory, thanks to national and international volunteers.

Remarques

Aptitude for manual work, hiking in the forest and working in a team.

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid.The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence... The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market.
