Arbeit

Volunteers will be actively involved in preparing, maintaining, and restoring the spaces that host both the campsite and the CampArt Festival. Their tasks will include cleaning green areas, setting up and organizing communal spaces, and carrying out small maintenance activities such as repainting benches and improving public elements. These actions aim to make the spaces accessible, welcoming, and respectful of the surrounding environment. Volunteers will also support the promotion of the festival by distributing informational materials and engaging with the local community, encouraging participation and connection. At the end of the festival, they will help clean and restore all used areas, ensuring they are left in good condition. Work will take place for about six hours per day under the guidance of local coordinators, promoting teamwork, flexibility, and active participation

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will stay in tents in a dedicated camping area that will be provided. Toilets and showers will be available on site. A shared kitchen space will be available for basic use, but meals will mainly be provided by a canteen.

Lage und Freizeit

The camp takes place in Petralia Soprana, in the heart of the Madonie mountains (province of Palermo, Sicily). The area is rich in biodiversity, forests, trails, and scenic landscapes, offering an authentic and immersive environment where nature and local culture coexist in balance. The local community involved includes the towns of Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana. These are vibrant and welcoming communities where tradition, social ties, and a sense of belonging are still central. The project fits into this context by creating a space for interaction among residents, volunteers, and artists, fostering cultural exchange and active participation. During their free time, volunteers can explore the trails of the Madonie Park, visit the historic villages of Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana, participate in spontaneous artistic and musical events, take part in group activities, and enjoy the surrounding nature.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The workcamp is organized by Lunaria in collaboration with CampArt, an independent arts festival. CampArt Festival began as an artistic initiative launched by a group of students united by the aim of creating a shared space where creative expression and community life could coexist. From its very inception, the project has been conceived not merely as a cultural event, but as a collective experience in which art intertwines with nature and human relationships. CampArt takes place in the Madonie area in Sicily and was created to offer a free, self-managed cultural space.

The volunteer camp supports both the preparation and promotion of the CampArt Festival, responding to local needs for cultural initiatives that respect and enhance the surrounding territory.
The project aims to strengthen the relationship between the festival and the local communities of Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottana, encouraging participation, intercultural exchange, and a shared sense of responsibility. Volunteers become part of a temporary community grounded in collaboration, sustainability, and collective experience. Through their involvement, they actively contribute to both the organization of the festival and the life of the community it generates. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: 10. Reduced Inequalities – Reduce inequality within and among countries; 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities- Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable

Volunteers will support the members of the cooperative in the maintenance of the organic vegetable garden, in particular in the cultivation, sowing and harvesting, in the setting up of the fruit and vegetable shop. Some renovation work can be organised according to the needs of the place. The work is mainly manual and is only organised in the mornings due to the high temperatures (between 7:00 - 12:00). Afternoons are free and volunteers can explore the surrounding area or take public transport to the beach. Depending on the interest of the volunteers, it is possible to organise workshops to decorate the interior of the house. At the end of the workcamp, there could be a cooking workshop with the volunteers of the cooperative and the young migrants hosted by the cooperative. Study part: Members of the cooperative will share their stories and experiences of managing property confiscated from organised crime and their knowledge of organic farming.

Lage und Freizeit

Castelvetrano is a town in Sicily, in the province of Trapani. It is known for its rich history, including its proximity to the archaeological site of Selinunte, one of the largest ancient Greek cities in Sicily. The town is famous for the production of high quality olive oil and the historical centre is rich in monuments. A pine forest is 4 km from the accommodation, while the historical centre is 1 km away.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The social cooperatives I Locandieri were born from the idea of cooperation between individuals and institutions, with the mission of generating social and economic value for the benefit of as many people as possible. They offer services to people, especially migrants, and since 2008 they have been welcoming migrants in two communities, including minors and families. One of their missions is to give new life to the confiscated property. Over the years they have given back to the community places confiscated from crime, transforming them into communities for migrants and sports facilities for children, young people and migrants living in Castelvetrano.Il Giardino delle Arance is another confiscated property that has been returned to the community: a small building from the late 18th century with three hectares of land that has been renovated to become a home for minors; a cottage that will become a space-lab for the processing of home-grown agri-food products and a shop to sell the garden s produce. Outside, there are 2 hectares of citrus groves and 1 hectare of land where an intensive organic vegetable garden has been created to implement an ambitious socio-economic project.

Volunteers should have an interest in agriculture, be willing to work very early in the morning and have a good level of autonomy to enjoy their free time.

Arbeit

Volunteers will be mainly involved in cleaning and maintaining the high and medium mountain and agro-silvo-pastoral paths adjacent to the hostel, as well as supporting the activities of agricultural companies. They will also be involved in restoring the signs of the local paths and in taking care of the greenery of the large park surrounding the hostel. For the identification of the routes, obtaining permits, on-site accompaniment and assistance during the carrying out of activities relating to the paths, we avail ourselves of the support and collaboration of the Cedegolo section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), of the Valcamonica Mountain Community, of the municipal administrations of Cevo and Saviore dell'Adamello and some agricultural companies in Valsaviore. The shifts will be 6 hours per day, for 5 days a week. We guarantee 1 rest days depending on the weather conditions.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Participants will be hosted at the Casa del Parco hostel and accommodated in several shared rooms: each room has 4 to 5 beds, private bathroom and shower. There are several common areas, including reading rooms, a restaurant and a large outdoor garden, as well as free Wi-Fi and the possibility of using the washing machine once a week.
Due to the location of the facility in a closed valley, we cannot guarantee a fast internet connection. Meals will be served mainly in the hostel with a predominantly vegetarian menu, however variations may be made to meet different needs. When necessary, volunteers are expected to bring a packed lunch, while on other days they will have lunch together with the local community or at the farms that will host them for their tasks. Volunteers can feel free to help the staff with meal preparation, set and clear the tables.

Lage und Freizeit

Cevo is a small mountain village of 800 inhabitants located inside the Adamello Regional Park, at an altitude of 1100 m. Placed at the junction of two valleys closed by the head of Adamello glacier, it offers a barely anthropic, natural environment which counts on a reduced tourism flow. An atmosphere foreign to urban chaos where time seems to flow slowly, ideal to hike surrounded by nature.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Casa del Parco Adamello is a multifunctional, community place where people can meet and discuss mountain culture. It is a space committed to territorial promotion where we can draw a path focused on enhancing potential and local resources. Here we arrange cultural events, workshops and training addressed to social innovators and people involved in mountain areas development.

Anforderungen

Volunteers should bring their own trekking shoes and proper mountain clothes.

Isola delle Femmine is an Italian town in North-Western Sicily, in the province of Palermo. It is next to the sea so volunteers can spend their free time at the beach, do water sports, snorkeling, etc... Isola is a coast-town close to Palermo and connected by bus/train. Palermo is a beautiful city where there are many sights and places to spend the free time.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Isola delle Femmine is a nature reserve established in 1997 by the Sicilian Region and managed by LIPU (Italian league for birds protection) since then. This little uninhabited island is located in a strategic place for the migration of a specific species of bird called Gabbiano reale (Larus michahellis), this area allows them to rest from migration and to grow numerically. The regular support received along the year is not sufficient for the maintenance needed, this is the reason why InformaGiovani with LIPU organize together every year volunteering projects to support the maintenance of the natural reserve and to sensitize the local community towards the place.
