Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Tegalrejo Red-District area is a prostitution area in Semarang Regency. There are more than 100 families who mostly work as sex workers or food sellers. We run this project since 2006 together with our mother organization PKBI. This work camp focus on improving quality life of marginalized kids so they will be treated fairly and less discriminated. Most of the children living in this area don’t have birth certificate, since their parent don’t have identity card either. On the other hand, they couldn’t afford higher level of school, and must faces high-risk-sexual activity scene (such as violence, sex bargaining, or sexual exploitation) as their playing ground. By this situation we worked with local stakeholder to provide Non-formal education where children can read books, make handicraft, fun studying, and cross cultural understanding with volunteer. IIWC works with the local community who works in prostitution area. The project site (where the work will be conducted) and camp site (volunteer house) are separated.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Sumba is one of the last surviving megalithic cultures on the planet. What is remarkable is that despite contact with western cultures, Sumba is one of the few places in the world in which megalithic burials are used as a ‘living tradition’ to inter prominent individuals when they die. The quality of public facilities available on Sumba is important to support the village. Based on interviews by the stakeholder in Praijing traditional village, public facilities such as toilets, water reservoirs, and garbage collection still need to be improved. IIWC of PKBI is willing to contribute within the community through conducting work camps. By conducting work camps, it’s expected to explore and develop local potential, which exists in the project site. In line with this goal, IIWC of PKBI will try by this occasion to work together with more partners and stakeholders by implementing the International internship program which will take place in Praijing Traditional Village, West Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

Adolescence or teenager (10-19 years) is a unique and formative time. Some phsical, emotional and social changes, including exposure to poverty, abuse, or violence, can make teenager get easy to be exposed by mental health problems (WHO, 2019). Globally, depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among teenagers. Every year, 20% of teenagers at school suffer from common mental disorders such as anxiety and depression (WHO, 2011). Indonesian Health Ministry reported that the prevalence of emotional disturbance of students at age 15 year and above is about 6% (Riset Kesehatan Dasar, 2013). This fact above reaffirms the importance of school-based mental health as a strategic program to elevate adolescent well-being. This program was implemented to introduce the culture carried out during Kartini's struggle. Kartini was one of the female heroes during the Dutch colonial era in Indonesia. She managed to create education for women in her time, because at that time a woman was not allowed to continue her education if she was 12 years old. Since that age, Kartini was married by his parents. Equipped with embroidery, batik, and sewing equipment. She started her determination to open an education school for women. Therefore, the existence of this program is to enhance the enthusiasm of learning for women and to preserve the culture that is the ancestral heritage and spread to all people to be able to protect it. IIWC works together with their mother organization branch in PKBI Rembang. Volunteers will work together with the youth center called KIBAR and assict their activities such as seminar, discussion, and culture exchange.

Over the past 30 years, according to UNICEF research, the number of children living in urban settings has increased by nearly one quarter, leading to concerns about available opportunities and services in cities. Globally, 43 per cent of children lived in cities in 1989, compared with nearly 55 per cent today. Based on Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs research, in 2011, there were more than 3 million children homeless for any reason. However, children are young nation generation who need affection and guidance for either their better future or nation future. In this kind of conditions, everyone should wisely take part to get them out of life suffering. Wakatobi is a maritime regency with abundant marine wealth lies right in the heart of the Worlds Coral Triangle. With only 3% of land, Wakatobi is the only regency in Indonesia where the whole area is mandated as a national park. The marine and cultural diversity have earned Wakatobi as UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Wakatobi ranks among the highest in priority for marine conservation in Indonesia. There are atoll and barrier reefs as the habitat of large and small fish species, dolphins, turtles even whales. Wakatobi hosts two types of sea turtles, the Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). However, Green Turtle is included as an endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. According to WWF, the number of green turtles around the world has declined sharply due to overfishing, environmental destruction on beaches, and people harvesting their eggs.
