Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This is the first IVS project for PAUD Inklusi Tersenyum (Inclusive Pre School “Tersenyum) who provides space of interaction, education and social integration for children with disabilities (difabilities) and non difable in Boyolali near Solo, the city of culture in Central Java. With the same spirit between GREAT and the difable community founded by Ms. Titik Isnani, the anyone can be the agent of change toward world peace in any aspect of humanity, GREAT local volunteers has been making school visits monthly and did one mini workcamp in 2018 to get to know and experience deeper the people and the issue try to be promoted by the local community. The inclusivity for difable people and their families is still unpopular for many Indonesians especially in village area. Boyolali, even thou it is located next to Solo, an international cultural city, still has to raise awareness strongly in the local level on the difable rights of education, social interaction and integration. Stigma on the difable people to be non educated and useless need to be changed in the mind of people. Families who have difable children need to be encouraged to be strong and to keep their children at school. IVS, particularly international workcamp will bring international volunteers and national ones into the school and neighborhood with more interaction and isocial intergration activities that is expected to bring more diversity and solidarity to the humanity for these difables.

Lage und Freizeit

Cihampelas Village, Bandung Region. Village view. https://goo.gl/maps/wKp1GaRtGeF2

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Citarum is the longest river in West Java runs over 300 kilometres from the Wayang Mountain to the Java Sea. There are 30 million people rely on the water source for agriculture, water supply, fishery, industry, sewerage, electricity, etc. However, unregulated factory growth since the area’s rapid industrialisation in the 1980s has choked the Citarum with both human and industrial waste. The 5 million people who lived in the river basin are directly affected. Over 200 textile factories line the river banks and contaminate the river with lead, mercury, arsenic and other toxins, changing its colour and lending the area an acrid odour. Moreover, the river is also polluted and filed with trash such plastic, styrofoam, even dead animals. In cooperation with Bening Saguling foundation working in Citarum river basin and Saguling basin since 2015, GREAT started the IVS intervention since 2017. We work together in the community development program through education, social, economic, and environment conservation. By using the trash as their potential product for making “TRASH BANK”, they also take advantage from the water hyacinth weed (pollutant plant) by making handicraft from that plant. Now, the community have their own forest in the river basin where they conserve some variant of bamboo trees and other local trees. Their home based has become a learning centre for garbage management and water handicraft.

Some of GREAT volunteers are from this small town. Having strong motivation to open access for rural children to global education in non formal education approach and as IVS activists in Indonesia, they are eager to multiply the impact of international workcamp in their lovely little hometown. Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Background: This project was Initiated since 2006 by cooperation with NOVIB IDO which concerned in the prevention of STI and HIV/AIDS in Tegalrejo and Sukosari the two prostitution areas in Semarang uptown. After this pilot project, this project turns to focus more on the education especially highlighting the mental side of the children in the prostitution. This is due to the lack of concern on this issue from all stakeholders in Tegalrejo prostitution area while IIWC found out that there is big chance for IIWC to address the children issue. Project: Tegalrejo project at moment is the follow up of workcamps that regularly organized between IIWC and NICE Japan by setting up a shelter. This shelter is used for children to learn their school subject and to gain soft skills such as handicraft, dance, singing, etc assisted by volunteers. This year we start to set up international group to support this project and make it better in the future. Aims: 1. To promote or introduce the shelter among the local youth or students nearby 2. To motivate the children about the importance of education 3. To organize activities for the children in prostitution area 4. To exchange culture between participants, local people, and local students
