The city surrounded by sea and consists of eight small islands and three of them are uninhabited. It gorgeous, swathed with jungle and wild clove trees area. Read more: here. This magnificent tourism of Ternate is not equal to conditions of marginalized children who live in the city of Ternate. There are at least 50 kids who live in vulnerable groups without enough access to studies as well as their time to playing around. They have limited time to maximize their reading interest. The book is expensive, and the libraries are only available in school or in public place, but only open in office hour. We run this project since 2006, together with our mother organization PKBI. This work camp focus on improving quality life of marginalized kids so they will threaten fairly and less discriminated. Most of the children living in this area don’t have birth certificate, since their parent don’t have identity card either. On the other hand, they couldn’t afford higher level of school, and must faces high-risk-sexual activity scene (such as violence, sex bargaining, or sexual exploitation) as their playing ground. By this situation we worked with local stakeholder to provide a shelter called “Rumah Belajar” or “Study Center” where children can read books, make handicraft, fun studying, and cross cultural understanding with volunteer.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Since 2008 Patrimonito has become our remarkable project focusing on heritage site preservation. We recently conduct Patrimonito project in Plaosan temple which also belongs to Prambanan temple compounds. Prambanan temple compounds is a UNESCO world heritage site in Indonesia which is one of the largest temple compounds in Southeast Asia. It was built in 9th century dedicated to the three great Hindu divinities (Shiva, Wishnu and Brahma). The Prambanan temple compounds consist of Prambanan temple (also called Loro Jonggrang), Sewu temple, Bubrah temple and Lumbung temple with total about 240 temples. The temples were damaged by earthquake in 2006 and volcano ashes from Kelud mountain eruption in 2014. Until then the site management try its best to preserve the temple by restoring the damaged temple and conducting a lot of activities in collaborating with UNESCO, government and stakeholders to support the preservation. The volunteers will be introduced to the World Heritage Centre s activities and campaign, the history and dynamics of world heritage sites worldwide. It aims at rendering its symbolic dimension to heritage through debates and reflections, contribute to the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage and/or improve accessibility and availability of information, raise the awareness of the local population and create a sense of ownership and identification, and promote cultural heritage between international volunteers and organizations.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Pasir Sari, and Bugisan are areas in Pekalongan where children with less opportunities and drop out children living. It happens because of very less income of their parents who normally work in informal sector. A hard living in the city leads people to be hardly struggle for a living. This cause parents will insist their children as “money producer” by asking them to go down to street to beg money. Why children? because people will normally feel pity on children rather than adult in giving money. This situation put the children at risk and vulnerable. In fact, according to convention if the rights of the child, children have rights to survival and development. Include the rights to education, primary health care, leisure and recreation, cultural activities, etc (unicef.org/crc).Eager to contribute to fulfill as much as possible the rights of children living in the two areas with guarantee of sustainable action and mentoring to the children, GREAT organize a combine program both STV/workcamps and LMTV.
