Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Mangkang is a fisher and farmer village located in west Semarang. This project has become annually and continuously project organized by IIWC in answering the needs of preserving the coastal side of North Java Sea in Mangkang. About 1,1 km costal line in Mangkang area is now in danger due to the abrasion of the sea, cutting mangrove by local people and heavy force from the river flows. Before, many kinds of fish and shrimps are living there, but now since the condition of the mangrove forest is getting worse, it is quite difficult to find the species anymore. Fisherman also needs to go further to the ocean to fish and it means much work they need to do to earn money. Mangkang is the project site for IIWC World Tanabata Action of CCIVS UNESCO and Climate4Peace of SCI International. Project: Preserving natural diversity and sea shore from the abrasion because of no more mangrove and too strong waves from the ocean will be the main focus of the camp. This project implemented by collaboration between IIWC Indonesia and local community named BIOTA Foundation. http://biotafoundation.blogspot.com/. Aims: To initiate the project of protecting the sea shore by planting mangroves and, to increase the awareness of the local people, the fisherman, and local students to protect their environment as well as their future.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Background: This project was Initiated since 2006 by cooperation with NOVIB IDO which concerned in the prevention of STI and HIV/AIDS in Tegalrejo and Sukosari the two prostitution areas in Semarang uptown. After this pilot project, this project turns to focus more on the education especially highlighting the mental side of the children in the prostitution. This is due to the lack of concern on this issue from all stakeholders in Tegalrejo prostitution area while IIWC found out that there is big chance for IIWC to address the children issue. Project: Tegalrejo project at moment is the follow up of workcamps that regularly organized between IIWC and NICE Japan by setting up a shelter. This shelter is used for children to learn their school subject and to gain soft skills such as handicraft, dance, singing, etc assisted by volunteers. This year we start to set up international group to support this project and make it better in the future. Aims: 1. To promote or introduce the shelter among the local youth or students nearby 2. To motivate the children about the importance of education 3. To organize activities for the children in prostitution area 4. To exchange culture between participants, local people, and local students

Sangiran Museum is the only pre historic museum listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites in Indonesia. Sangiran area is a nationally protected cultural site of human evolutions during Pleistocene. The last 3 years GREAT has been cooperating with Sangiran Conservation Office (SCO) to organize international workcamps targeting local youth/ students to promote role of youth in preserving world heritage by creating students club called the Young Guardian Club Sangiran. However, after a comprehensive evaluation, the SCO & GREAT found that the impact of existance of international volunteers in the area is more to the local people than to the students. This is because many students do not actually live in the pre-historic conservation area of Sangiran also students tend to move to other bigger cities once the graduate school. While the need of socialisation and raising awareness of preserving finding of pre-historic fossils stays strong for the local society. From time to time SCO is doing raising awareness program for prevention against illegal trading of the fossils found by local people and for strengthen sense of belonging and preservation among local people and Indonesian public in general. This workcamp is expected to be a new method to achieve those aims.

This is the first IVS project for PAUD Inklusi Tersenyum (Inclusive Pre School “Tersenyum) who provides space of interaction, education and social integration for children with disabilities (difabilities) and non difable in Boyolali near Solo, the city of culture in Central Java. With the same spirit between GREAT and the difable community founded by Ms. Titik Isnani, the anyone can be the agent of change toward world peace in any aspect of humanity, GREAT local volunteers has been making school visits monthly and did one mini workcamp in 2018 to get to know and experience deeper the people and the issue try to be promoted by the local community. The inclusivity for difable people and their families is still unpopular for many Indonesians especially in village area. Boyolali, even thou it is located next to Solo, an international cultural city, still has to raise awareness strongly in the local level on the difable rights of education, social interaction and integration. Stigma on the difable people to be non educated and useless need to be changed in the mind of people. Families who have difable children need to be encouraged to be strong and to keep their children at school. IVS, particularly international workcamp will bring international volunteers and national ones into the school and neighborhood with more interaction and isocial intergration activities that is expected to bring more diversity and solidarity to the humanity for these difables.
