Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Pekalongan Mangrove is a project targeting endangered villages or areas located on coastal lines in Pekalongan. This project is a sustainable project organized by GREAT in cooperation with local communities called Banawa Sekar to answer the need to preserve the coastal side of Pekalongan.
Pekalongan City is one of the most directly affected by global climate change among many islands in the world. The project is preserving natural diversity and the shore from erosion because of significant mangrove cutting in the 70s-80s along with strong waves from the ocean.
Mulya Asri Mangrove Site is located in Mulyo Rejo Village, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. This site was created by a local farmer community called Banawa Sekar (self-funded). This community has been preserving mangrove plantations since 2012 to protect the village from the tidal wave. Banawa Sekar has been awarded by the Local Government for winning the forest preservation award in Central Java. Even so, there are still many challenges that must be faced by them so that their village can survive abrasion.

Lage und Freizeit

Semarang City is the capital city of Central Java Province. This city is a good manifestation of a harmonious cultural blend society that consists of Javanese, Chinese, and Arabian cultures. You may experience delicious cuisine and visit some iconic landmarks of Semarang City.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

GREAT organizes a project that aims to give a better life to stray cats by working together with a local social entrepreneur pet shop in Semarang City called Star Paws. The movement started with a street feeding activity to provide stray cats with proper food and clean water. When a cat is found sick and in need of medication, there will be on-site treatment. Further examination with a vet is also provided when needed. To control the population of the stray cat, we raise funds to neuter the stray cat.

Apart from setting aside its income to support stray cats' lives, Star Paws also has partnerships with veterinarian and cat-lover communities in Semarang City to help keep running the mission. It also provides free education to cat owners who would like to learn more about how to pet a cat properly. Star Paws has a mini shelter with 20 cats that were rescued from the streets. There is also a campaign to stop animal abuse through social media, gatherings, talk shows, and local actions. They do this knowing that some people torture animals aimlessly.

With the support of IVS volunteers, we hope this movement will have a stronger echo to the world.
