InDaHouse Hungary works in Hernádszentandrás, which is a small village with about 400 inhabitants. In this village there are only 2 shops, they sell food and alcohol and some basic household goods. The locals can buy clothes and appliances in nearby towns, but the infrastructure is very poor so they cannot travel easily. InDaHouse wants to open a charity shop in Hernádszentandrás which will sell clothes, household goods, and appliances which they got as a donation for a low price.
In addition, they would like to run a community café because there is no community place where the youngsters or adults could spend time together (there is only a pub and a football pitch in the village). The young people and the mothers who stay at home with their kids need a place to meet and socialize with friends. There are 2 old houses that could be used for these purposes but they need renovation. We would like the participants of the workcamp to be involved in renovation works. It will include tiling, flooring, plastering, painting, roof tiling, etc. We have a foreman who has the qualification and ability to break down the working processes for small tasks that everyone is able to carry out. No specific experience is required for this work. We expect this charity shop and community café to become a central place of the village where the inhabitants can meet, it can provide a voluntary workplace of the local youngsters and can be an interesting place for tourists.

IDH Hungary has a Children and Volunteer Center which was built by volunteers from donations of individuals and companies. The accommodation will be there in big rooms of 6-8 beds. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and towels. In the Center there is a big and well-equipped kitchen. Volunteers will cook for themselves in turns. A group of 3 will be responsible for preparing the food every day. Every person has only one-day cooking duty. The host will buy the raw materials, provide the utensils and help in everything. Vegetarian, gluten and lactose-free food will be available.
Hernádszentandrás is located in a beautiful area in the North East of Hungary, close to the Slovakian border. The nearest big town is Miskolc, 40 kilometers away. The village has about 400 inhabitants. There is a small shop and a pub in and a restaurant in the next village, Pere. On your free days, you can visit Miskolc or Kosice, or the most famous Hungarian wine region: Tokaj. If you like nature you can hike up to the ruins of Regéc castle, Boldogkővárlja castle or to Zemplén-mountains which has one of the wildest forests in Hungary, with many natural sights.
InDaHouse Hungary works in one of the poorest and most disadvantaged regions in Hungary, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Our volunteers hold individual and group sessions for underprivileged children to help them with their studies and develop their abilities. Our goal is that the kids who take part in our programme become independent, liable adults who are able to control their own life.
We have an Early Childhood Development Program for kids under 6, and we study individually with the older ones (from 6 to 18) to practice comprehension, mathematics and English. We also try to broaden their horizons with different activities e.g. hiking, dance lessons, video making courses, etc.
In the near future, we would like to open a charity shop and a café in the village. We have two old buildings for these purposes that need renovation.
Working with volunteers from bigger cities and from abroad also helps the local community to connect with different social groups and to be more open. https://indahousehungary.hu/
