Arbeit

As part of the summer camp, volunteers will contribute to a diverse range of meaningful, hands-on activities that bring the foundation’s mission to life. You will work together with fellow international volunteers and the local team to support educational and community experiences for children aged 6–14. The activities will mainly take place in the afternoons, approximately between 14:00 and 20:00, when the children arrive at the after-school centre. During this time, volunteers will help organise and facilitate games, creative workshops, sports, outdoor activities, and cultural exchange moments. Through play, learning, and shared experiences, the aim is to broaden the children’s horizons and create a positive, supportive environment. Volunteers will play an important role in building trust with the children, strengthening their self-confidence, and bringing energy and joy to the daily programme. At the same time, volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the vibrant community life of Tarisznya Tanoda and gain first-hand insight into how education and community support can create positive change. No specific background or professional experience is required. What matters most is enthusiasm, openness, patience, and a willingness to engage with the children and work as part of an international volunteer team alongside the local staff.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps programme. There is no participation fee. Volunteers will be accommodated in a large guesthouse located approximately 200 meters from the after-school centre where the activities will take place. Accommodation will be in shared rooms, with 3–4 volunteers per room. The guesthouse has one bathroom available for the group; however, an additional bathroom is available at the after-school centre and can also be used by volunteers during the project. Food will be organised in the following way: breakfast will be self-served, with the host organisation providing the necessary ingredients for the volunteers. Lunch will be ordered from a local catering service. Dinner will be organised depending on the day and the programme: it may be prepared together with the after-school centre, cooked by the volunteer group, or ordered from a local provider. Each volunteer will receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to and from the project location will be reimbursed after participation according to the European Solidarity Corps distance bands. All necessary equipment and materials required for the project activities will be provided by the host organisation.

Arbeit

Join us to create an unforgettable summer camp for children aged 3 to 18. The main contributions we ask of volunteers are to actively share their own cultures by teaching songs and dances from their home countries, to develop children's English skills, and to lead engaging games and sports activities. Through these activities, volunteers will also help foster joy, trust, and self-confidence among the children. The children will participate in age-based groups Monday through Thursday, while Friday will be a family day with parent participation. Although the camp is relatively short, with direct activities with children lasting only six days, it is highly intensive, with volunteers actively engaged with the children throughout the day.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be provided at the foundation's house, where you can either camp in a tent or sleep in the community space. The house has two separate restrooms, each with a shower. Activities with the children take place outdoors in the yard. If you need a short break and the group size allows, you can rest in the sleeping area. We will provide three meals a day (hot meals for lunch and dinner), with a vegetarian option available. Meals are always shared. Breakfast consists of cold items (e.g., sandwiches, boiled eggs), while lunch and dinner will be prepared together the night before. The weekly menu will be planned together during the preparatory meeting.

Lage und Freizeit

Bódvalenke is a small village with approximately 230 residents, located in northern Hungary near the Slovakian border in the Edelény district. Surrounded by natural landscapes, this experience offers volunteers the opportunity to connect with Roma culture, learn about local traditions, and share meaningful moments with fellow volunteers. It's an opportunity for cultural exchange and social impact through community engagement.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Since 2016, the Juszt-is teszünk! Foundation has been a driving force behind the transformation of Bódvalenke into the vibrant "Fresco Village," where Roma painters have turned the walls of local homes into beautiful open-air artworks. Working in a community where nearly half of the population is children and employment opportunities are limited, the Foundation has launched and sustained impactful initiatives to support and empower the local Roma community. With years of experience, deep local engagement, and a strong commitment to social change, the Juszt-is teszünk! Foundation is a dedicated and reliable partner in creating lasting impact.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Meeting point: We will meet you on July 12th, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Deák Square, at the airport bus stop (100E and 200E). If this time is too early for you, the foundation’s staff can provide accommodation for volunteers the night before.
Transportation between Budapest and Bódvalenke will be arranged by the foundation, either by car or by train. The journey takes at least 3 hours by car.

Anforderungen

There are no language requirements, but English will be the working language during the program. Please bring comfortable clothes that can get dirty while playing, a sleeping bag, and any personal medications you may need.

Two weeks before the camp starts, we will hold an online preparatory meeting on Monday evening to plan the week’s program. This also allows us enough time to gather all the necessary materials. After the camp, there will be an online reflection session, where we will discuss the experiences we shared. It would be great if you could join both sessions.

Volunteers will gain first-hand insight into Hungary's civil sector and the social realities of people living in poverty, not as observers, but as active participants working toward social change. The program includes team-building activities; creative, multicultural workshops co-created by volunteers and local young people; interactive programs to explore the area together; and hands-on renovation work at a community house. Evenings will be filled with campfires, shared music, and board games, essential moments for connection and reflection. Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps program. There is no participation fee, and all volunteers will be accommodated in tents or in the organisation's house on mattresses. Multiple toilets and showers are indoors. Camp leaders and volunteers will prioritize a responsible, local, and balanced diet. The host will provide three meals a day (hot meals for lunch and dinner), with the team participating in turn to cook, supported by local camp leaders and youth workers. Each volunteer will also receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed based on the distance after participation. All necessary equipment for the tasks will be provided.

Lage und Freizeit

The camp will take place in Pécs, a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage, and we will ensure you have time to explore it. Pécs is a vibrant city with many options for dining, cultural and music programs, and nightlife. The location is surrounded by mountains, with rich forests, rolling hills, wildlife, and scenic views.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Élmény Tár Tanoda is an organization that supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a mission to open the world to them and raise awareness of the opportunities around them. This camp brings local youth together with young people from across the globe, creating space to broaden perspectives, foster openness beyond their communities, and learn the values of acceptance and cooperation. We see this shared international summer camp as a powerful way to bring our vision to life for the children and young people we serve. The international volunteer camp is being held for the 5th time, so the kids are really looking forward to it!

Arbeit

Volunteers will support the summer camps organized by the Hét Kútforrás Foundation, mainly for disadvantaged Roma children. The activities usually take place in the afternoons and are organized in three different locations: Pétervására, Szajla, and Erdőkövesd. Most of the children are between 6 and 10 years old. The program includes games, creative workshops, sports, and lots of fun together. The children especially love singing and dancing, so volunteers who are happy to teach songs or dances from their own culture are very welcome. Volunteers will work in international teams together with local coordinators, helping to create a safe, joyful, and supportive environment where children can build confidence, gain new experiences, and simply enjoy being kids.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps programme. Participation is free of charge. Volunteers will be accommodated in the dormitory of the secondary school in Pétervására, in shared rooms with three beds. Three meals per day are provided (with hot meals for lunch and dinner), and a vegetarian option is also available. Each volunteer will receive €7 per day as pocket money. Travel costs to the project location will be reimbursed after participation, based on the travel distance. All equipment and materials needed for the tasks will be provided.

Lage und Freizeit

Pétervására, Szajla and Erdőkövesd are located in Heves County, at the foot of the beautiful Mátra Mountains. The area offers a truly rural setting: peaceful, green, and far from the noise of big cities. It is important to know that this is a small countryside region with limited entertainment options, so we count on the initiative and creativity of the volunteer team. In the evenings, you can organize your own activities together – such as campfires, cooking over an open fire, making music, or simply sharing conversations under the stars. In your free time, you can go hiking in the Mátra, explore nearby villages, or visit the historic town of Eger. This location is ideal if you would like to slow down, connect with nature, and create meaningful shared moments as a team.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Hét Kútforrás Social Foundation believes that preventing the reproduction of extreme poverty is not only in the interest of the individuals affected, but a shared responsibility of society as a whole, and that taking responsibility for those in more difficult situations shapes our collective future in the long term. To promote community development, social inclusion, and equal opportunities for disadvantaged children and families, the foundation operates several Tanoda (after-school learning centers) in Heves County. Through its educational, creative, and long-term locally rooted activities, the foundation creates safe spaces where children and young people can learn, grow, and build confidence.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Meeting point: Pétervására Bus Station
Date and time: July 30, 2026 at 6:30 PM

There is a direct bus connection from Budapest Stadionok (metro and bus station) to Pétervására. We recommend taking the 4:30 PM bus at the latest to arrive on time.

Anforderungen

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are patient, empathetic, and enjoy working with children. It is important that you can easily connect with different age groups and communicate well – even without many words. This camp is especially a great opportunity for those who already have experience with children or would like to gain some. There are no language requirements, but English will be the common language among volunteers. With the local professionals, you will be able to communicate in Hungarian or German. Please bring clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty during games, a sleeping bag, and any personal medication you may need.

With around 5,900 residents, Szécsény offers a relaxed local atmosphere while still providing all essential amenities, including cafés and pubs, restaurants, shops, ATMs, a pharmacy, and a central bus station.
During the weekend, you will have free time to explore Szécsény and its surroundings. The town offers a lake for fishing, a beautiful park, and nearby hiking spots. From the local bus station, larger towns such as Balassagyarmat and Salgótarján are within 30 minutes, while Budapest is approximately 2 hours away. Szécsény is also just a 30-minute bus ride from Hollókő, a UNESCO World Heritage village.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Egyesek Youth Association has been working with young people in the Szécsény micro-region of Nógrád County since 2012, an area that is socially and economically disadvantaged in Hungary. Through skills-development and community-building programs, the association aims to help young people discover their strengths through experiential learning and volunteering. Participants develop key skills such as communication, responsibility, and initiative, and become more active in shaping their own future and that of their community. Programs involving international volunteers also support the development of English language skills and offer opportunities to learn about different cultures, broadening young people’s perspectives.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Meeting point: Szécsény Main Bus Station, 30th July 2026 at 6.30 PM.

There is a direct bus from Budapest to Szécsény. From the airport, you have to go with public transport to Újpest-Városkapu, from where you can take a bus to Szécsény main bus station. It takes around 2 hours via the direct line; we suggest reaching the bus leaving at 4.30 pm.
