Arbeit

Alpakaland will be an animal-assisted healing space where Ukrainian refugee children can be psychologically rehabilitated in a smaller community. It will officially open its doors on 11th May 2024, with the first children's camp starting in early June. Our task is to complete all the work needed to get the environment ready for camping by the time it opens. These are:
- simple construction of slats and metal fences and their painting,
- interior works: assistance with plastering and tiling, wall painting,
- erection of large tents according to assembly instructions,
- landscaping (spade, shovel, wheelbarrow),
- gardening (flower planting, plant care, mowing),
- simple assembly of animal runs,
- assembling wooden playgrounds and painting wood,
- decorating for the opening.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will live in the community centre of the village. There will be space inside the centre for half of the group (around 6 volunteers) and the other half (6 volunteers) will sleep in tents. MigAid will provide tents and sleeping bags. Camp leaders and volunteers will self-organise the breakfast and dinner, food will be provided. We will order lunch from the next village for each day.

Lage und Freizeit

The camp will take place right next to the "small Balaton" with an amazing landscape. Balaton is close to enjoying the lake, and Hévíz and Zalaegerszeg are the nearest cities with options for gastronomy and cultural programs. Although be prepared Esztergályoshorváti is a very tiny village with 414 residents.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Migration Aid on top of running a refugee transit hostel and Ukrainian school in Budapest, Hungary aim to create a space where children can be psychologically rehabilitated. In this regard, they
devote a special role to animal-assisted healing spaces. As the first test Migration Aid bought in Esztergályhorváti (countryside of Hungary) an empty, but utility-filled plot, on which there are currently only many trees. In an area of about 3 thousand square meters on the outskirts of the village, they plan to build 4-5 Green Shelter homes (suitable for 16-20 people), so the animal-assisted therapy space can help 300-500 affected children and their parents annually, counting on 2-week cycles.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Keszthely train and bus station (it is the same) at 7 pm and 9 pm on the 26th of April, from where the host will bring with a minibus the team in two turns to Esztergályoshorváti.
If you arrive by plane in Budapest you have to go to the Déli train station (ca. 1 hour with 100E airport bus and M2 metro), where we suggest reaching a train to Keszthely at 4.35 pm or 6.35 pm. The train from Budapest to Keszthely takes 2,5 hours.

Weitere Infos

No specific experience is required for this work. The volunteer work will be both lighter and heavier physical work, so feasible for girls and boys equally. There will be an initial discussion to decide which activities will be carried out by the different groups.

Arbeit

Work together with local kids with fewer opportunities to create and learn together about and from each other. The main activity will be holding creating workshops and doing renovation work in the local community centre.

Volunteers will have a chance to understand the civil sector in Hungary and the social reality of people living in poverty, not only as spectators but as active participants working towards social change. The program will consist of team-building activities, creative and multicultural workshops delivered to and by the volunteers with local young people, interactive programs to get to know the area together and some renovation work on a community house. Campfire, common music and board games are indispensable to the program.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will be accomodated in tents, or in the house of the organisation on mattresses. Multiple toilets and showers are indoors. Camp leaders and volunteers will pay attention to having a responsible, local, and balanced diet. The team will cook in turns with the help of local camp leaders and youth workers.

Lage und Freizeit

The camp will take place in Pécs, which has a rich historical and cultural heritage, and we will make sure that you have time to explore that. Pécs is a lively city with many options for gastronomy, cultural or music programs and lively nightlife. The location is surrounded by mountains, a rich area with forest, hills, wildlife, and an overall beautiful scenery.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Élmény Tár Tanoda is an organization working with children coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their mission is to open up the world for their target group and raise awareness about the opportunities surrounding them. This camp brings local youth together with youngsters from all over the world, providing a chance to broaden their perspective, become more open to the world outside their own community, to learn about acceptance and cooperation. We see this grand, shared international summer camp as a great way of serving our vision for the children and young people around us.

Arbeit

We are looking for volunteers to help run the festival through its preparational works (July 5-15). The volunteers will do construction work, drilling/heavy objects, etc. Work equipment will be provided. After the preparational work, you’ll be free to enjoy the festival and take part in all events.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will live in tents during the festival and you are asked to bring your own tent (we can provide some if needed). We provide 2 meals/day for you (hot meals for lunch and breakfast). A vegetarian option is available. We provide all equipment needed to fulfill your tasks.

Lage und Freizeit

Bánk is a tiny village in Nógrád County with its not-so-tiny Lake Bánk in the middle. It has everything a tiny village built around a lake could need: a small store, a tobacco shop, a pizza place, a pub, some hotels, motels and a lakeshore eatery. Plus the extremely friendly locals. Bánkitó Festival has been in town for 12 years, mostly around the Lakeshore and the Camp, though throughout the years, we ventured out to settle around the Reeds and the Meadow. Besides the lake, the small wooden cabins and the venues hiding around small clearings throughout the enclosing forest make Bánkitó the festival it is.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Bánkitó is Hungary’s biggest independent, socially conscious, cultural and community festival with a wide range of programmes throughout its three days (10-13 July 2024) in the summer from music through theatre to contemporary art. The festival is located in the countryside and hosts 8000 visitors each year. It offers concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, civil initiatives, workshops, and round-table discussions about social justice issues, human rights, and the experiences and cultures of minorities. It takes place at Bánkitó, a small Hungarian village 60kms away from Budapest.
The music at the festival is progressive, contemporary, and constantly renewing, with the newest and most exciting bands of the Hungarian music scene. The civil/cultural programs always poke at important and actual topics, working towards understanding society’s issues with activists from NGOs, musicians, actors, and artists. Contemporary Hungarian theatre pieces will be showcased, and Hungary’s most exciting contemporary artists will transform the shores of Lake Bánk into an art exhibition.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

You need to travel by train from Budapest to Bánk. The easiest way is to go to “Újpest Városkapu” in Budapest, where you can start a journey to Rétság then change a bus there to Bánk. There is almost every hour a bus, but we suggest to arrive the latest to Újpest at 5 pm. It takes around 1 hour from the airport to Újpest-Városkapú by the airport bus and metro (M3), plus 1,5 hours to Bánk.

Weitere Infos

The programme of the festival is always organized around a common theme. In 2024, the topic will be Mind-Splitting. This year, the Bánkitó Festival explores how we perceive the world we live in. Are you frustrated by too much information and yet you're indecisive? War or terrorism? Meat or vegetables? Who is the oppressor and who is the oppressed? Left or centre? Let's not even talk about the right. Activism, or are you over it? Go with fashion or go against it? But isn't it fashion to go against fashion? It must be normal to feel like you have seven selves at once. But what's normal? The theme of this year's Bánkito Festival is mind-splitting.

Anforderungen

You should be fit enough for physically demanding work. No special documentation is necessary. No COVID-19 vaccine requirements. No language requirements, but we require a way to communicate with the organizers in Hungarian or English. Please bring clothes that you won’t regret getting dirty during construction, your sleeping bag and personal medicine.

Please send us a motivation letter focusing on why you would choose to work on the festival, and what kind of related skills or previous experiences you have had at the chosen field, for example doing physical work (construction and demolition) on warm summer days. You do not need any special skills to volunteer at the festival.

The volunteers will support the work of Tdh staff to ensure the on-site safety of all children and care for them as needed. The specific activities will include helping in the RIF workshops, assisting at off-site activities and chaperoning children in the cities to different locations. Throughout the program duration, a diverse range of enjoyable and engaging activities is offered to promote the psychosocial well-being of the children, fostering a positive and eventful experience for them.
The first week will be in Budapest 6-14th July and the second week in Győr 15-21th July.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

All volunteers will be accommodated in hostels in Budapest and Győr and will be provided with a public transportation ticket. Meals will be provided throughout the programme. The evenings and the second weekend will be free to explore the cities of Budapest and Győr.

Lage und Freizeit

The summer programs take place in Budapest, the capital of Hungary and Győr (1,5 hours away from Budapest by train). Budapest has a stunning landscape and rich architectural and historical heritage, offering a unique combination of diverse cultural backgrounds, fine cuisine, and a wide array of leisurely activities. Győr seamlessly merges history with youthful energy. The vibrant Old Town streets, where trendy cafes and boutiques beckon, offer a glimpse of the city's dynamic art scene, making it a trip worth taking.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Terre des hommes (Tdh), a prominent Swiss organization dedicated to aiding children in need, is collaborating with the Egyesek Youth Association to organize summer programs for refugee children in Budapest and Győr, Hungary. The project aims to support the successful integration, well-being, and prospects of refugee children and young individuals under 25 from Ukraine in Hungary, by providing opportunities for refugee and local disadvantaged children and young people to participate in new types of educational and skills development programmes using digital technologies. These activities take place in the Resilience Innovation Facilities (RIF). RIFs are first and foremost, spaces where children and young people can feel safe and secure, no matter where they come from or what their background. In addition to providing a safe space, RIFs offer a variety of skill-building workshops in Ukrainian and/or Hungarian. During these workshops, children and young people create and learn, using various digital technologies (2D/3D design, 3D printing, laser cutting, sticker making, etc.). More info: https://www.tdh.org/en/projects/fablabrif

Arbeit

In this project you will have the opportunity to organize summer camps for marginalized children aged 10 to 18. As a volunteer, you'll be an integral part of the NGO's mission to empower these children by providing them with valuable experiences to make a difference in their lives. Immerse yourself in a week of fun, learning and connection, as you will teach these children about yourself, your culture, and the English language. But that’s not all – if you have a passion for sports or music, we welcome your expertise to enrich the camp experience even further!

After Sunday’s arrival (you may explore Budapest over the weekend), we kick off the week with a preparation day on Monday to review the activities and the logistics of the camp, ensuring everything is set for an amazing experience. Tuesdays will be all about building emotional connections with the children by playing together. From Wednesday to Friday, we will venture out from Csörög for two nights of adventure at summer camps across Hungary, creating lasting memories along the way. On Saturday, volunteers will come together for a day of reflection and closure, celebrating the impact made in the children’s lives. On Sunday, everyone will begin their journey back home. As a volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to teach English, lead engaging games and sports, and share the beauty of music with the children. But your role will go beyond teaching skills; you'll be fostering a sense of joy, trust, empathy, and respect, addressing a wide range of psychosocial needs and building essential life skills. Join us in creating a brighter future for these children, one filled with laughter, learning, and limitless possibilities!

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

While in Csörög, you will live in the afterschool building, in a big shared room with mattresses. Please bring your sleeping bags with you. From Wednesday to Friday, you will accompany the children and staff to a summer camp in Hungary. A shower and toilet are available in the building, together with a superb kitchen.
We will provide 3 meals/day for you (hot meals for lunch and dinner). A vegetarian option is available. All equipment needed to fulfil your tasks will be provided as well.

Lage und Freizeit

Csörög is a tiny village close to Budapest, but we will send only 3-4 days the rest will be together with the children in Esztergom or Balaton in the summer camp. Although Budapest is very close, it is a vibrant and fascinating metropolis where there's always something going on, so your leisure time in Hungary is going to be well spent.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Egyesek Youth Association organizes this volunteer program together with Csörögi Tanoda (an afterschool program in Csörög), managed by the Mahájána Foundation since 2011. They aim to ensure that the children learn according to their abilities, find a job they enjoy and become able to adapt to changing circumstances. To achieve this, they try to make learning desirable again among the Roma community of Csörög, where they are supporting 26 families. Their activities include group work and personal development for children, career orientation and community building.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

You need to travel by train from Budapest to Csörög. Trains depart almost every hour from Budapest Nyugati station. We ask you to catch the train at 6.00 pm at Nyugati Station together so the team can arrive around 7.30 pm to the after-school location. It takes around 1 hour from the airport to the train station by bus and metro, plus 1,5 hours to Csörög.

Anforderungen

No special documentation is required. There are no language requirements, but you will need to communicate with the staff and the children in Hungarian or English. Bring clothes that can get dirty while playing, a sleeping bag, and personal medicine. Please send us a motivational letter focusing on why you chose to work with children, and what kind of related skills or previous experiences you have in the chosen field. You don’t need any special skills to be a volunteer.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Egyesek Youth Association is a community of active youth and young professionals. We contribute to creating communities based on solidarity, where people are aware of their own freedom of choice, they do what they love and connect with each other peacefully. Most of our activities are based in Nógrád-county, a socially and economically disadvantaged part of Hungary, where young people have very few opportunities to meet their peers from other European countries, engage in multicultural and non-formal learning, or take part in creative activities during their free time. Working closely with local stakeholders we aim to fill this gap by creating meaningful educational and self-development opportunities locally while involving international youngsters in these programs.
