Egyesek has organized short-term voluntary projects in cooperation with the local youth clubs of a micro-region in Nógrád county 4 times already. In this ESC summer camp a team of 11 international volunteers will live and work together for 15 days, to lead non-formal education sessions in English for the local youth and children. In the first week of the camp they will volunteer at a local summercamp, involving about 70 kids from the region. They will have the chance to organsie free time activities for the kids and also help the organizers in various tasks (e.g. kitchen, cleaning, etc.) The volunteers will be coordinated by two team-leaders, and professionally guided by the local youth-workers. In the second week of the camp they will visit every day the local after-school clubs and organise activities for the kids, creative workshops, outdoor activites, games etc.
Unterkunft und Verpflegung
On the first week of the camp volunteers will stay in an equipped campsite (called Robinson Islands https://www.robinsonszigetek.hu/) in tents, with limited conditions (water and electricity is limited). Food will be ordered from a local kitchen and volunteers will eat together with the children. During the second week of the activity volunteers will be accommodated in a dormitory in Szécsény town. Meals: Vegetarian and vegan food will be available.
Lage und Freizeit
The camp is located in Nógrád county on the north of Hungary. this region is one of the poorest in Hungary but has many cultural villages, the most famous is Hollókő which is listed as a Unesco World Heritage. It has a cultural center and ruins of a castle with a beautiful view. The nearby hills provide many opportunities for small excursions in beautiful surroundings with lakes and forests. Budapest the capital of Hungary is about 100 km away from the region.
Wer organisiert das Projekt?
Egyesek Youth Association is a community of active youth and young professionals. We contribute to creating communities based on solidarity, where people are aware of their own freedom of choice, they do what they love and connect with each other peacefully. We work together with youth from all walks of life with a special focus on youth at risk. Most of our activities are based in Nógrád-county, a socially and economically disadvantaged part of Hungary, where young people have very few opportunities to meet their peers from other European countries, to engage in multicultural, non-formal learning, or to take part in creative activities during their free time. Working closely with local stakeholders (schools, youth clubs, youth workers, experts) we aim to fill this gap by creating meaningful educational and self-development opportunities locally while involving international youngsters in these programs. https://egyesek.hu/
Note that this camp is an ESC project (European Solidarity Corps) we can accept volunteers only from eligible countries, volunteers have to complete the whole duration of the camp. The age limit is 18-30 years.
Volunteers should be ready to spend their time together with children, especially during the first week of the camp, when they will be accommodated at the same campsite.
