Work

Immerse yourself in the medieval adventure by working with the team of local volunteers: setting up, manning the stalls, cooking and helping to make the fair a success! This job combines technical skills, physical stamina and organisation. You'll help set up and take down stalls, tents and marquees. As a visitor guide, you'll help with signage, traffic management and route planning. Manage the general logistics of the fair, including cooking and clearing up. Run stalls such as the refreshment stand, the crêpe stand and more. Please note: the first and last weeks will be particularly physical, with heavy lifting and busy days. Take up the challenge and live this unforgettable medieval experience!

Accomodation and food

You will stay in a collective dorm in a municipal building next to the place of the workcamp. Food is provided and you will prepare the meals in team with the other volunteers in an indoor kitchen. Lunch will be taken with the local volunteers of the festival. Don’t forget to bring your favorite recipes !

Location and leisure

Souvigny (03275).

Leisure activities : Leisure time is organised collectively. During the second weekend you will work and enjoy the activities of the fair, so you can discover the area mainly on the last week. The main leisure will be right next to you, as you can participate for free on the concerts, workshops and multiple shows and parties organized during the festival.

Project hosted by

Embark on a Temporal Voyage: Help transform a Village into a Medieval Fair! Now in its 29th year, the Souvigny Grand Site association is organising this fair, which attracts over 30,000 visitors every year. For 9 days, the village is transformed into a living spectacle of Troubadours and Saltimbanques. Amateur and professional troupes perform on stage. International work camps are also set up to help create the event and share the traditions of French medieval culture. Discover the variety of stands and themes: music, theatre, juggling, fire artists, tightrope walkers, birds of prey and horses, craftsmen at work, living camps, blacksmithing, cooking, tents and much more. Join us as we bring the past back to life and create unforgettable medieval memories!

Work

Let's get renovating!
For the first time, we will be working with the Accoord association based in Nantes. Not far away from Nantes, it has a large leisure centre, Port Barbe, which welcomes hundreds of children every year during school time. With its leisure centre, equestrian centre, educational farm and green open spaces, this leisure centre has everything it takes to be a real children's paradise.
This year, they are calling on Concordia to refurbish two small trailers in the educational farm. These trailers are used to store equipment. They need a facelift to make them fit for use again and to keep the equipment dry.
The aim of this project is to insulate and clad the trailers in wood to give them a new look!

Accomodation and food

You will sleep in individual tents at the Port Barbe leisure centre (bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat). The sanitary facilities and kitchen will be in large tents, so you can get the full worksite experience. You'll share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the leaders, and you'll help with the shopping and meal preparation, giving priority to healthy, local produce. You can exchange recipes if you wish. Laundry will be done by hand. There is no WIFI connection.

Location and leisure

The site will be located at the Port Barbe leisure centre in La Chapelle sur Erdre, less than 20 minutes by bicycle from Nantes.
Located 1? hours from Paris by train, Nantes is the largest city in the Pays de la Loire region. The city is famous for its flagship attraction: the Machines de l'Iles.
https://www.levoyageanantes.fr/

Project hosted by

This is the first year that we are working with Accoord. The association is one of the main players in the youth sector in the Nantes metropolitan area. They have no fewer than 21 socio-cultural centres, neighbourhood centres and an open-air space. It has agreements with the City of Nantes and the CAF. Accoord also manages 40 children's leisure centres and 17 teenage activity centres, and organises around fifty trips in France and abroad.
Concordia and Accoord share strong popular education values.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is set for late afternoon at La Chapelle centre station in La Chapelle sur Erdre on 31/07. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the route map, sent out no later than 4 weeks before the start of the project.
Several direct trains leave from Paris Montparnasse. The journey takes around 1 hour and a half.

Trains can be booked around 4 months before departure on the SNCF website, link below:
https://www.sncf-connect.com/
As far as possible, remember to use low-carbon means of transport (train and bus rather than plane) for a sustainable international site.

Additional comments

The workcamp will take place at a leisure centre. Children will be present at the same time during the day for their holidays. We therefore expect exemplary behaviour in the presence of children. Everything is located at the leisure centre. There will be no cars for leisure outings. The city of Nantes is accessible by bike, so you'll need to know how to cycle!
Don't forget to take good shoes and clothes that won't get wet when you're out and about. And don't forget to pack clothes for the cold and rain and a good, warm sleeping bag: the nights can be chilly. You can also bring musical instruments, juggling instruments, costumes or other games to show us your talents, as well as typical products from your region!

The departure is set on the last day (14/08), usually in the morning.

Requirements

This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme for young people aged 18 to 30. It is open to all volunteers who meet the ESC criteria and is subject to a number of principles and conditions presented on this page:
https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_fr

  • Volunteers do not have to pay any fees (neither postage nor participation fees) to take part in the project, and will receive financial support for their journey, up to a maximum amount determined according to the distance they will be travelling and on presentation of the original tickets;
  • Volunteers must register on PASS, the ESC portal, and Concordia will then invite them to confirm their participation in the project;
  • Volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on the basis of €6/day, as soon as they arrive on the project in France;
  • Volunteers will be required to complete a participation report, which will be submitted online via the portal.

Work

Take part in the rehabilitation of an old mill, in the charming town of Isle, in the heart of the forest!
You will continue to restore the mill area, clearing weeds, consolidating and solidifying the walls and rebuilding its destroyed parts. The area you will work on corresponds to the junction zone between the stream and the waterwheel mechanism. You will be supervised by a technical leader who will teach you different traditional methods.

Accomodation and food

You will be accommodated in individual tents, with sanitary facilities, a kitchen and a communal living room where you will enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. You will share the various collective tasks (cleaning, activities, etc.) and prepare meals together.

A budget will be allocated to the leaders, and you will help with the shopping and meal preparation, giving priority to healthy, local products. Our aim is to encourage vegetarian eating using local, seasonal produce, while respecting participants' diets and discovering local cuisine together. WIFI is available. The laundry will be done by hand.

Location and leisure

Isle is a French town located in the department of Haute-Vienne in the New Aquitaine region, bordering the town of Limoges, famous for its porcelain, but rich in history and heritage.
The commune benefits from an exceptional living environment where nature is omnipresent.

In the town centre, flowery gardens, green spaces and leisure facilities are to be discovered alongside local shops and services. Just a few minutes walk away, Isle has a rural protected area shaped by the two valleys of the Vienne and Aurence rivers. Throughout the woods, meadows and fields, there are the several castles and manor houses that together make up the town, with an urban dynamism offered by the town of Limoges, only 5 minutes away.

Project hosted by

The municipality of Isle plans to restore an old mill and its miller house in the forest located close to town. To do so, several volunteering works will be undertaken: the construction of a shelter for hunters, an educational room for the leisure centre, a hiking trail and the reactivation of the mill.

Through this project, you will participate in this restoration and you will discover and share a human and cultural experience with the inhabitants of the town. You will also be near the French capital of porcelain, Limoges.
More information: www.ville-isle.fr

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is scheduled at Limoges-Benedictins train station on the 31st of July at the end of the afternoon. The exact meeting time will be given with the infosheet which will be sent at the latest 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp. On the last day (14/08), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

From Paris, you can take a train from Paris - Gare d’Austerlitz train station, regular departures are scheduled throughout the day to Limoges (about one train every hour). The trip lasts around 3 and a half hours.

If you are coming by plane first, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel.

If possible, please consider using low-carbon emissions transportation (train and bus rather than aeroplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.
The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/

Additional comments

Bring a sleeping bag for cold weather, a mat or a thick sleeping mattress depending on your need for comfort, work clothes, sports shoes, warm and rain clothes, a flashlight, a swimsuit and sunscreen.
Don’t hesitate to bring anything interesting to share from your home country/region (traditional recipes, folklore stories, music, games, intriguing objects…) if you would like to share!.

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen during the project, volunteers will have to pay for them personally, and will be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Work

Take part in revitalizing the town of Champagne-sur-Seine, ideally located in the Seine et Marne department and on the Seine’s edge, only 7 km away from Fontainebleau and its forest.
By volunteering in this project, you will get the chance to meet the inhabitants of Champagne-sur-Seine and will enable them to fully enjoy their town. Through landscaping works you will make it easier for residents to hike: for instance you will develop spaces for relaxing or for lunch with picnic tables. You will also participate in making the hiking trail nicer and more attractive so that everybody can enjoy going for a walk there. You will scratch and paint the railings and gates of the city hall over and you will fix urban furniture in the forest so that everybody can fully benefit from the nature around.

Accomodation and food

You'll stay in the municipal gymnasium, divided into single-sex dormitories with sanitary facilities and wifi access. Group living will take place in the Palais des spectacles. You'll have access to a kitchen equipped with a microwave. You'll share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A 15-minute walk will take you to two mini-markets and laundry facilities. A budget will be allocated to the coordinators, and you'll help with shopping and meal preparation, giving priority to healthy, local produce.

Location and leisure

If it is important to you to remain close to nature while living close to a big city, then it is what you need! Champagne-sur-Seine is located 75 km in the South of Paris and right next to Fontainebleau: you will easily be able to go to the French capital while enjoying the jewels of nature around. Between river and forest, the town is right on the Seine’s edge and is dominated by forest massifs. You will be able to observe the birds at the pound nearby, and if you like to walk you will appreciate the many hiking trails across the region, including this particular one called “Water, fire, stone”.

Project hosted by

Champagne-sur-Seine is a new partner. This town of 6,179 inhabitants is very dynamic and puts its residents’ well-being first and this is why they care about implementing nice walking trails.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is set at Champagne-sur-Seine’s city hall around 8 PM.
The exact meeting time will be communicated at the latest when you receive the roadmap, one month prior to the beginning of the workcamp.
Several local trains (“TER” or “RER”) leave from Paris to Fontainebleau-Avon. From there a bus will take to Champagne-sur-Seine. You will be able to book trains directly in regional train stations.

Additional comments

Please bring work-adjusted clothes and hiking shoes. Nights can be cold so bring warm clothes as well as a warm sleeping bag. You may also bring cooking recipes from your country/region, music instruments and games.

On the last day (15/08), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Work

Take part in the construction of a sensory pathway at the Foyer d'accueil médicalisé (FAM) La Fontaine in Gien (45), which provides permanent accommodation for people with disabilities. As well as the technical aspects, this project will be a great human experience, as you will be living in contact with the local residents and will have the opportunity to share moments together.
This work camp takes part of a project to develop the outside areas requested by the ADAPEI 45 association, which administers the site. The new facility will help residents to develop their relationship with the outside environment in all its dimensions, as well as improving their self-confidence and motor skills.
Your job will be to carry out the preparatory work (laying out the ground), build a vast wooden structure, and then install the various elements making up the sensory trail, to the delight of the residents and care assistants living on site all year round.

Accomodation and food

You will be hosted directly on the site. You will have an individual tent outside. An indoor area will also be available for you to organize activities or retreat in case of bad weather. You will have access to sanitary facilities and showers. A kitchen will also allow you to prepare your meals. In collaboration with the animation team, you will participate in the shopping and cooking. Following an eco-friendly approach, you will be invited to use local and seasonal products. By the way, feel free to come with your own recipes, it's a great opportunity to share your history and culture with the group. A washing machine or laundromat will be available from time to time (preferably allow 3 weeks for laundry). Wifi will be available on site or shared with the French volunteers and the activities team.

Location and leisure

The town of Gien (45) is located 150 kilometers south of Paris, in an area renowned for its large forests and farmland. The area has a rich history. As well as its well known castle, now transformed into a museum, you’ll be able to discover a local specialty in the “Musée de la faïencerie”, which houses a unique collection of earthenware pieces made in the local workshops since 1821. The banks of the Loire are also a great place to take a stroll in your free time. A lot of activities are proposed there in summer. Feel free to explore the region's architectural gems, such as the famous Briare canal-bridge and the castle in Sully-sur-Loire. Paris will also be reachable by train.

Project hosted by

The ADAPEI 45 association was founded in 1959 by a group of parents and professionals who wanted to promote the specific needs of intellectually disabled children. Since then, the association has grown considerably. It now provides moral and material support to people with disabilities (intellectual, multiple disabilities, autism, etc.), their families and carers. To this end, it administers different sites that offer all kinds of adapted solutions to live or work. The association also develops a spirit of mutual aid and solidarity through its community initiatives. Meetings with the residents of FAM La Fontaine will be organized to give you an enriching human experience.

Additional comments

You can bring board games, a musical instrument or any other object from your region/country that you would like to share with the group.

Requirements

The site is located in an urban area. For practical and ecological considerations, you will be traveling mainly on foot. Remember to bring gloves, clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor work. Don't forget to bring a sleeping bag. You should also bring summer and rain clothing, a swimming costume and toiletries.

Work

A small welcoming town, a green municipal team, a pleasant living environment in the heart of Auvergne, for a nice workcamp in the heights!

The municipality of Saint-Germain-Lembron values the traces of its past, by safeguarding the historical heritage still present. It recently discovered an old dovecote (pigeon house), a small stone tower that appeared when a building with which it was intertwined was destroyed!

Last summer, an international work camp was organised to restore two facades of the dovecote, using a traditional manual lime masonry technique that is as environmentally friendly as possible: two facades therefore remain to be completed for this new 2024 work camp. You will spend about 30 hours a week on this site, working alongside a technical leader : removing the old coat using chisels, sledgehammers and metal brushes and repointing the joints between the stones with a natural coat made of lime and sand. Your involvement and that of the group will enable us to obtain a beautiful "exposed stone" finish for the dovecote.

You will be working high up next to the pigeon house, on scaffolding. If you suffer from vertigo, this is probably not the best workcamp for you! If you are not afraid, working in heights is generally a very pleasant experience and allows you to enjoy a beautiful panorama.

Accomodation and food

You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay.
You will stay at the Centre Jeanne d'Arc, in the village, about fifteen minutes walk from the site. You will sleep in two rooms on large gymnastic mattresses (men and women separated). You will have a fully equipped community kitchen, showers and toilets, a large room for collective life and a terrace where you can sit in the cool shade of the trees. The site is closed and will be reserved for your group.

The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals, prioritising products from the market and local producers. Wi-Fi is available in the campsite. You will be hand washing your laundry or there is a launderette in town (for a fee).

Location and leisure

Saint-Germain-Lembron is a small town of 2000 inhabitants, located next to the town of Issoire. It is crossed by several rivers such as the Lembron, hence its name. Its medieval church, its atypical fountains and its small castle allow it to preserve a heritage of typical Auvergne character.

You will have unlimited access to the gymnasium in front of your place of living, to organise sports activities (badminton, football, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics...). The municipality will ask local associations to help you discover the region. The programme for your free time includes hiking on the volcanoes, swimming in lakes and rivers, initiation to pétanque or participation in concerts and local festivals.

Project hosted by

The town has already hosted international workcamps and has a very positive image. You will meet people who are involved in ecological issues and who develop many actions with the inhabitants. For example, last winter, the school children planted a large orchard. This workcamp fully integrates this militant and sustainable development approach.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is at the train station of LE-BREUIL-SUR-COUZE (63) at the end of the afternoon. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the Info Sheet, sent one month before the beginning of the workcamp.

It is a small station on the Clermont-Ferrand - Brioude line, served several times a day. From Paris or Lyon, several trains a day leave for Clermont-Ferrand.

The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website:
https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/

Additional comments

Bring work clothes, walking boots and a backpack. Bring warm clothes for outdoor evenings and a sleeping bag. You can also bring recipes from your home country, musical instruments and games. You will get around Saint-Germain-Lembron by foot, car and by minibus.

On the last day (23/08), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Requirements

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

commune has a number of sports facilities, including a football stadium, tennis courts and
petanque pitches. There are several footpaths in the vicinity, as well as a number of cycle
paths. So you'll have plenty of opportunity to discover the region, its châteaux and vineyards,
and its small surrounding villages when you're not working on the site.

Project hosted by

The Maison Concordia has been owned by the national association since 1996. Formerly the
local post office and the home of the local rural warden, the building is now the headquarters
of the Concordia Nouvelle-Aquitaine delegation. On the site, there are not only the offices of
the delegation's employees, but also a house with accommodation for the 5 young European
volunteers who are on mission in the region every year. In the garden, we organise events
throughout the year with local residents. Also on site, the Grains de Blés association
distributes weekly baskets of fruit, vegetables and local produce. So not only is this place
steeped in history, it's also an essential part of local life. The Maison is no longer as young
as it once was, and is in need of some refreshment and repairs if it is to remain the meeting
place and meeting place we love so much, a symbol of the commitment that the Concordia
association has been making since 1950.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is BORDEAUX ST JEAN SNCF station, Belcier exit, on August 5 in the
late afternoon.

The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the route map, which will be sent out no later than 4 weeks before the start of the project.

Several direct trains leave from PARIS gare Montparnasse for BORDEAUX ST JEAN. The
journey takes approximately 2 hours.

Train reservations can be made approximately 4 months before departure on the SNCF
website, link below: https://www.sncf-connect.com/

Additional comments

Remember to take clothes and shoes for work that won't get dirty. For leisure activities, you'll

need clothes suited to the climate (warm fleece or jumper, shorts and hiking trousers,
windbreaker, down jacket, warm socks, etc.). Don't forget sun protection (a hat or cap is
essential, sunglasses with high protection factor, sun cream with high protection factor IP
30-50, etc.) and a swimming costume for swimming or white-water activities.
For accommodation, remember to bring a warm sleeping bag and a towel. You should also
bring a rucksack (in addition to your luggage), comfortable trainers and a pair of flip-flops.
You'll also need to pack these essential accessories: a mobile phone charger, a water bottle
and a headlamp or torch.
Social events will be organised in collaboration with our activity leaders and according to
your wishes. In particular, we'll be organising themed evenings in each country. If you'd like
to share a little of your culture (recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects, music, etc.), don't
hesitate to take a little piece of your country/region in your rucksack.

Work

This year, go to the terraced gardens of the Capuchins, to complete the work started in 2021!
Objective: complete the restoration of the walls with two ancestral and environmentally friendly techniques: lime masonry and dry stone, for the greatest pleasure of tourists and locals!
On the masonry walls, you will participate in various tasks: repointing the stones with a lime plaster, raising the wall to its original height, laying tiles, etc. On the dry-stone walls, you will learn to sort the stones according to their uses, to cut them and to arrange them to give a new youth to the wall.
You will have the chance to be accompanied by a professional wall builder: The opportunity to discover (or perfect) the techniques of masonry and dry stone!

Accomodation and food

Along with the other volunteers, you will be accommodated permanently, at the Saint-Mihiel youth hostel, a stone's throw from the work site. You will have rooms for 3 or 4 people equipped with beds and mattresses, with bathrooms, a large kitchen and a relaxation area. Volunteers from previous projects are unanimous: the accommodation in Saint-Mihiel is very comfortable! In addition, the setting is bucolic, because the place of accommodation is close to a river.
The volunteers, who will be actors and actresses of their stay, will each participate in the daily tasks (shopping, cooking, storage and cleaning ...), the organization of the rotation will be done with the animation team, which is there to ensure the smooth running. The objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning.
All together, you will think about how to work, eat, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most respectful way for the environment and for each other.

Work

This year, we'll be building a greenhouse using as many recycled materials as possible. Measuring around 2.5m high by 5m long and 2m wide, we'll be using our know-how and creativity to build this beautiful shelter in an environmentally-friendly way. We'll be recycling wood and barnum that couldn't withstand the wind, as well as other reusable materials! Sorting out the different materials, cutting, adapting and carrying will be the order of the day. Heavy loads and a fair amount of handling are to be expected.

Accomodation and food

You will be hosted on Le Créneau’s camping, in collective tents (6-8 persons per tent) separated by genders, with wooden floor and beds. Wi-fi is not available on site. Food will be provided and prepared in the kitchen of the castle by the participants in groups, with the support of the cooking staff.

Location and leisure

Montcombroux les Mines (03181), 45kms away from Moulins.

Leisure activities: Afternoons and weekends are planned collectively with the group leaders. If you want to discover the cities around, Vichy and Moulins are 45 kms away. Come and join our cosmopolitan team who have made the Prureaux estate their home, coming from all around the globe to live as a collective. Our ambitious and exciting project is to restore and maintain the jewel at the heart of the estate: the Château des Prureaux! Join us on this adventure!
The environmental centre of our estate includes a farm, a vegetable garden, an orchard and a garden. Through these areas, we are experimenting with the principles of permaculture, with the aim of transforming the estate into a harmonious, productive and self-sufficient ecosystem, naturally regenerated and respectful of the nature and all its inhabitants. Together with you, we are preparing to build a greenhouse and collect rainwater to improve the management of the plantation.

Directions to meeting point

Let’s meet on Monday 5th August at 5 p.m. at Moulins-sur-Allier station, 4 rue Philippe Thomas 03000, MOULINS-SUR-ALLIER.

Work

Come join one of the biggest solidarity movements in France, but also in the world!
You will participate in an international workcamp of volunteers with the Emmaus community in Escalquens, near Toulouse, in the South West of France.

4 days a week, you will help and work with the companions and the volunteers of Emmaus to develop the economic, social and solidarity activity: upgrading waste, receiving and sorting donations, and re-selling second-hand objects.
You will actively participate in the organization of the great clearance sale that will take place towards the end of august.

You will also actively take part in the organization of the “La Grande Braderie”, a big second flea market event that could take place at the end of August.
You will work approximately 30 hours per week. You will have three resting days to do activities and discover places around.

Accomodation and food

The companions will welcome you to their community. To share the same living place with the companions means that you have to respect the community rules and adapt yourself to the modalities of the collective life.

You will stay in individual tents on the site of Emmaus Escalquens. You will have access to bathrooms and showers. Washing machines and Wifi are available at the accommodation.

Location and leisure

You will interact with young locals and decide together on what to do during your free time.
Escalquens (6000 inhabitants) lies at the gates of the Laurageais area, nestled among sunflower-covered hills and small, charming houses. In this beautiful setting, you will find a bridge from 1772, a pink brick castle from 1568 and a 14th-century church. At the Cousquille crossroads, you will discover local shops and the Sunday market.

During your days off, you can reach Toulouse in less than one hour by bus. Toulouse is a beautiful, innovative, cultural and dynamic student city famous for its rich heritage.
In the surrounding area, you will also get to discover villages, castles, and wine estates, as well as the UNESCO World Heritage site, “Canal des Deux Mers.”

Project hosted by

The solidarity movement of Emmaus was created in 1949. Emmaus supports a vision of the society in which the Human Being is the heart of the system, and where everyone finds his or her place. Emmaus is a solidarity movement. It develops original and uncommon solutions to fight against exclusion and defends values such as welcomeness, inclusivity and solidarity. Since 1971, Emmaus has taken part in an international network: Emmaus International, made up of groups located in 37 different countries.

Emmaus Escalquens was founded in 1995, first, to welcome international volunteers. A community area was then quickly installed, in an old building overlooking fields. Today, more than 20 companions live on the site and develop solidarity activities.

Emmaus is a recognized local influencer in the social and solidarity economy. The site of Escalquens is distinguished by its often-original gifts and products, such as those related to the field of vintage or retro!

Come back again in a few years to see how much your work has done for the local community!

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is scheduled at the ESCALQUENS Train Station at the end of the afternoon of the 7th of August. The exact meeting time will be given with the infosheet which will be sent at the latest 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp.
From PARIS, you can take the train from Montparnasse train station to TOULOUSE Matabiau train station, regular departures are scheduled throughout the day (about every hour). The trip lasts for about 4.5 hours, once in TOULOUSE Matabiau train station, you will ride the regional train to ESCALQUENS train station for 15 minutes.

For more information about trains: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/

If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel.

If possible, please consider using low-carbon transportation (train and bus rather than airplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.

Additional comments

Consider taking work clothes and shoes (waterproof if possible, in case of rain). Bring a warm sleeping bag and a good camping mat (for sleeping in the tent); nights can be chilly and humid. Tents will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Do not hesitate to bring activities from home, such as photos, games, musical instruments, food etc.

This project needs a lot of motivation from the volunteers, and a well understanding of the mission. Feel free to contact us before the mission if you have any questions.

Please note that it is forbidden to bring and drink alcohol in the community.

The departure is set on the last day (28/08), usually in the morning.

Requirements

Foreigners from the European Union must bring their personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and all participants must bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise during the program, volunteers will need to cover all costs; they will be reimbursed upon their return to their home country.

Work

This summer's work will focus on the development of a landscape and the maintenance and restoration of a hiking trail.
The mound is located in the centre of the hamlet, a grassy area that is now hindered by stonework structures that are no longer useful. To reduce the impact of construction on nature, the association wishes to offer more natural spaces to the people it welcomes in the hamlet. You will then participate in the creation of a relaxing space in the middle of the village life for all the people who stay here. The structures are being demolished before the summer in order to be able to offer a work site for both landscaping and furniture.
You will also be working on a hiking trail to allow you to discover the natural areas of the Hautes-Alpes, its fauna and flora by rehabilitating the trail (clearing, signposting, etc.) and providing educational support (information panels) along the way. You will thus be able to allow everyone to enjoy this hike again. A specialized technical supervisor will be at your side to provide you with advice and techniques. You will work approximately 30 hours per week in the morning.

Accomodation and food

You will be in individual tents, which we provide, as well as mattresses, on the camping areas of the hamlet of Vaunières, with access to showers, toilets, and the kitchen. There is no WIFI but you will meet people from all over the world ! You will take turns to cook, so that we can taste several specialties ! Here, we are careful about what we eat. In order to reduce our environmental impact, we try to eat a maximum of local products and we eat meat twice a week. The daily life is organized together: organization of the menus (vegetarian, vegan and other specific diets are possible), shopping, activities, etc. Bring a mattress, a good comforter (the nights can be cold) and a pillow. To be adapted to your needs.

Location and leisure

Le Hameau de Vaunières, is 23km away from the city of Veynes (05400).

Leisure activities: We will be in an exceptional location to discover the joys of hiking among the mountains, its rivers, its lakes, the farmers markets, and festive events organized in the surrounding villages (depending on programming). As a group, we will decide the activities and outings that we want to set up (subject to distance). Once a week, the welcome center generally organises a musical evening with homemade wood fired pizzas. Once or twice a week, we organize with our vehicles some grocery shopping outings.

Project hosted by

This year, we want to do some landscaping in Vaunières, a hamlet like no other!
In the heart of the Hautes Alpes, the association Les Villages des Jeunes has been managing, animating, and renovating the Vaunières welcome center since 1964! It is an old mountain hamlet, which has become a steppingstone place for local youth and adults, but also a place for French and international volunteers. Vaunières is a vacation spot for families, tourists, and groups, who come to enjoy the calm of the mountains and the dynamics of the place.
The workcamps that we organize at Vaunières with volunteers from all over the world allow us to reinforce the cultural diversity of our action and to make this site a place open to the world, where people of all ages and all social and cultural backgrounds agree to meet by working together and sharing a collective life.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting times at the train station will be communicated to you on the route map.

Work

Participate in the restoration of a traditional washhouse in Nogent-sur-Vernisson, a small town in the Gâtinais region known for its remarkable landscape, located about 100 km south of Paris. Several washhouses are located along the creek that flows through the village. As part of a project to enhance the value of this heritage, the municipality wants to restore a wash house which has been degraded.

Your mission will be to rebuild some parts of the typical tiled roof. You will also have to restore wooden parts and the traditional wall coating. In this way, you will help to give to this heritage a new lease of life, for the delight of the inhabitants and the curious passers-by.

Accomodation and food

The accommodation will be set up about 15 minutes walking from the work camp area. You will have an individual tent. Inside the municipal gymnasium, you will have access to toilets and showers. A kitchen will also be available for you to prepare your meals. The whole space will be at your disposal for your activities and to retreat in case of bad weather. In collaboration with the animation team, you will participate in the shopping and cooking.

Following an eco-friendly approach, you will be invited to use local and seasonal products. By the way, feel free to come with your own recipes, it is a great opportunity to share your history and culture with the group. A washing machine or a laundromat will be available (it is still recommended to bring 2 weeks of clothes). Wifi will be available in the town hall or by hotspot with the French volunteers and the animation team.

Location and leisure

The city of Nogent-sur-Vernisson is located about a hundred kilometres south of Paris, in the heart of the Gâtinais orléanais, known for its large national forests and its farmland. It is a territory with a very rich history.
In addition to the National Arboretum of Les Barres, you will be able to discover the towns and castles of the region during your free time, especially the towns of Montargis and Gien, which are easily reachable by public transportation. The city of Paris is also accessible by train.

Project hosted by

Nogent-sur-Vernisson is an active little town, known for its natural assets and its protected environment. This is the second year that an international workcamp is organised there. The name "Nogent" comes from "Novio magos" which means "new market" in the Gallic language.
The oldest civilization vestiges date from the Gallo-Roman period. Some of them are exposed in the media library. Apart from the construction work, you will be able to discover the National Arboretum of Les Barres, a natural setting of over 300 acres, created in the middle of the 19th century. It is bringing together a very large variety of trees and shrubs from all continents. With more than 2,600 referenced species, it is considered as one of the most important botanical parks in Europe.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is set at the NOGENT-SUR-VERNISSON train station in the late afternoon. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the infosheet, sent 4 weeks before the camp starts. Please consider using low-carbon transportation (train or bus, rather than airplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.

Additional comments

The construction site is located in a rural area. For practical and ecological reasons, travels will be on foot or by bicycle.

Remember to take gloves, clothes and shoes suitable for outdoor work. Don't forget to bring a sleeping bag and a mattress to sleep. You can also use a pillowcase as a pillow by filling it. Also remember to bring summer and raincoat, as well as your swimsuit and toiletries.
You can bring board games, a musical instrument or any other object from your country/region that you wish to share with the group.

On the last day (23/08), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Requirements

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program for young people between 18 and 30. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria.

Work

Join us in preserving the natural heritage of a dynamic and committed town !
Le Portel offers a unique natural and cultural heritage, with its cliff-top fort overlooking the sea, providing a magnificent landscape.
For this inaugural project, the group will participate in the renovation of the fort’s various walls, particularly by applying plaster and mortar to strengthen walls eroded by vegetation. The goal is to make a pathway along the fort accessible and safe. You will also have the opportunity to meet and work with local youth.

Accomodation and food

You will be housed in individual tents at the Phare d’Opale campsite, just a few meters from the beach and the fort. The campsite will provide the necessary sanitary facilities. You will share various communal tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the group leaders, and you will participate in the shopping, prioritizing healthy and local products.

Location and leisure

Le Portel (9,000 inhabitants) is located in the Pas de Calais department, in the Hauts de France region. It is part of the Boulonnais Agglomeration, well-served by public transportation. The region boasts rich historical heritage sites that you can explore nearby: the Bay of Somme, various coastal forts, and the crypt of the Notre Dame Basilica. Numerous hikes will be offered on the mountain slopes, along with opportunities to discover the local flora and fauna.

Project hosted by

The Fort du Cap d’Alprech Association in Le Portel took over this abandoned fort in 2023, with a strong commitment to restoring their local heritage. They organize visits to the fort to convey the rich history and memory of the site. Created in 1870, the fort has witnessed numerous conflicts with Germany and holds a wealth of stories, being a testament to many historic episodes. Although the association is very young, it is already vibrant with about twenty active volunteers eager to share and discover. As a new partner, their values of sharing, interculturality, remembrance, and peace align perfectly with those of Concordia.

Directions to meeting point

We will meet up at BOULOGNE SUR MER train station on 09/08 at the end of the day. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the roadmap, sent at the latest 4 weeks before the beginning of the work.

From PARIS, regular trains are leaving from Gare du Nord train station towards BOULOGNE SUR MER or through AMIENS. The ride lasts for about 3 hours
The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, available on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/

Additional comments

Remember to bring work clothes for the work site as well as closed shoes. As the accommodation is under tents, remember to bring your sleeping bag as well as a sleeping mat or a camping mattress for more comfort.

Don't forget your bathing suit in case you have the opportunity to go swimming! You can also bring back specialties from your country, photos, musical instruments, in short what you like and want to share on this site, either with the local population or with the group.

More information can be found on the city’s website : https://www.ville-leportel.fr/
