Work

The aim of this project is to build an ecological pond on the permaculture garden of the Maison des Bateleurs. Guided by our technical staff and with the help of the house volunteers team, you will learn not only how to build the pond, but also how the different animal and vegetal species interact inside the freshwater environment and their connection with the permaculture garden.

Accomodation and food

You will sleep in a dormitory in the big International Maison des Bateleurs, where you will share daily life with international volunteers welcomed under the ESC (European Solidarity Corps).

Food will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner (you have a food budget that the leaders will manage and communicate with you throughout the workcamp). Meals are prepared by you, in turn, by forming cooking teams. Take your best recipes with you!

As Solidarités Jeunesses is willing to protect the environment, you may not eat meat everyday. Of course, if you have any dietary restrictions or needs, don't forget to tell us about it so that meals can be adapted to you.

Location and leisure

Located a few hundred meters from the festival in Montendre, the house provides all necessary amenities: showers, kitchen, garden, bamboo grove, etc.

The pond work will take place in the mornings, whilst the afternoons will be dedicated to different activities around the Montendre area and to visit some of the locations of environmental or cultural interest in nearby zone. Also there will be free time planned during the week ends to allow you to discover some of the most unique sites in the region as La Rochelle and Bordeaux.

Project hosted by

Every year, by hosting volunteers and international workcamps, this commune of 3,000 habitants works to restore its heritage and promote intercultural exchanges. Montendre is home to one of Solidarités Jeunesses' international centers: the Maison des Bateleurs.

La Maison des Bateleurs is a Non-formal Education association that defends the ideas of living and doing together for a concrete peacebuilding action, promoting intercultural encounter. This International Welcome Centre, welcomes throughout the year 8 to 10 young volunteers (short and long term ESC, French and international civic service), as well as young French and internationals (individually or in groups) on our actions and projects of young volunteers.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point will be La Maison des Bateleurs, 4 avenue de Onda, 17130 Montendre.
You have to go to the station of Montendre (17130) and then walk 10 minutes to the Maison des Bateleurs

Work

The mornings of the 2 weeks will be devoted to wood construction and fitting-out the association's premises. On the programme, we'll be using pallets to build furniture for the café. You'll also be able to find out about and take part in the various activities organised by the community café, a convivial meeting place designed to be a place for sharing, welcoming, eating out, passing on knowledge and innovating.

Accomodation and food

You will be welcomed at the Vieux logis de Saint Amand. Sleeping accommodation in rooms of 2 to 3 people. Meals will be cooked and eaten collectively, so you can take it in turns to prepare some tasty dishes, so come along with your own recipes.

Location and leisure

Location : Coly - St Amand is located in Périgord Noir, 10 km from the caves of Lascaux, between Périgueux and Brive.

Leisure activities: Site visits, nature activities, you will build your own entertainment program with the animators and the other participants. We favor a discovery of the territory and these actors over consumption activities.

Project hosted by

Nestled in the hollow of a green valley, the town of St Amand de Coly is located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, a territory rich in history! Composed of two former municipalities that decided o join forces to form one. The commune is home to the Ecocycle association, a third-party organisation that is developing a participatory activity project in the commune of Saint Amand de Coly and the surrounding area. These activities are strongly influenced by concerns about climate change. After major renovation work, a building made available by the local authority is now coming into being.

You will help the association and its volunteers to prepare the building to welcome its members. You'll discover the local people's sense of welcome and the charm of the countryside and heritage, as you work with the other volunteers and the organisers to organise your programme of activities.

Directions to meeting point

Reception on the day of arrival at the end of the afternoon at Condat-Le Lardin train station.

You will discover the major role of trees in our ecosystems and the symbioses that link them with other organisms. Depending on the weather conditions, we'll be continuing to plant the garden forest and fodder hedges, or developing the Cab'Ânes with the installation of a space for the hens. We'll also be able to carry out the first composting trials. You'll also be helping to plant trees for a local farmer to encourage mutual aid and solidarity.

Work

During this Workcamp, you will be working on various projects at the association's site alongside local international and local volunteers. You'll help develop the eco-village by building wooden furniture (pallets and simple woodworking), creating compost bins for outdoor spaces You'll also take part in the installation of the site's solar shower, and in the development of the permaculture garden for the winter.

This project is a winter challenge! Most of the manual activities will take place outdoors in unheated areas and in winter conditions (cold and windy). However, you’ll feel great knowing you’re actively contributing to the construction of a unique eco-village and leaving your mark!

Accomodation and food

You will be staying in a village that is currently under construction, in two yurts (one for boys and one for girls). The yurts are insulated and heated.

An activity yurt, which is also insulated and heated, is dedicated to meetings and educational activities. Meals will be taken in the association's newly renovated “chalet.” This project will mark the first time a group has been hosted in the chalet!

Showers and toilets are located in the association's sanitary block. The sanitary block is the next renovation project for the village and is currently in a very basic state. While it is possible to heat it, the toilet block is not well insulated and can get cold, especially during shower time! It’s important to approach this project with an understanding of the basic condition of the sanitary block.

A large outdoor activity tent allows you to carry out manual activities while being protected from the rain.

Don’t forget to bring a suitable sleeping bag and warm clothing, as it will be cold and the nights can be chilly.

Food is provided, and meals are prepared in turns by the volunteers.

Location and leisure

La Ferté Alais is 50km south of Paris.

Leisure activities: You will have the chance to enjoy the association's campsite. You will also help to organise some activities in order to meet and socialise with local young people. Other leisure activities will be organised collectively depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget.

Project hosted by

VirVolt stands for Village InteRnational de VolonTaires. For the past four years, the association has been based in the middle of nature in a regional park.

Welcoming young people from all over the world, learning how to understand and appreciate differences., To plan and act together to protect the environment. To create a positive impact on the surrounding environment and people living there or simply passing by These are our goals for this future village, which each year, is built thanks to youths who come and contribute, with solidarity as their driving force.

Living in yurts, teepees and trailers, with a permaculture garden, water-saving methods, waste limitation and recovery, this small village that will become large will respect its natural setting and experiment with eco-responsible practices.

In this project, you will contribute to the evolution of a unique and original place, take an active part in the construction of new places of solidarity and ecological initiatives, and commit yourself to a society that is more respectful of people and nature.

You'll experience two weeks of total immersion, in an ecological village under construction, in the heart of the Forest!

Directions to meeting point

From Paris stations (Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord), take the RER D to Juvisy, and change for the RER D to Malsherbes.
We will meet you at the association's site, a 15-minute walk from the RER station, on 20/11 from 3.30pm.
