Work

Do you want to learn ancient techniques of masonry, the use of ancient material and ecology? This year, we will work to continue the masonry in stone, on the ancient sheep herding, in order to make it, in a few years, a room for cooking, storing tools, etc. We will continue as well to work on putting value in the site and hiking trails. And if the time allows, we will participate in the construction of stone stairs in the sheepfold with the help of masons that wil there to transmit their knowledge! The work represents 30h in a week. The nights and weekends are free for activities that you will choose to organise together.

Accomodation and food

Our principal place of living is a the Ferme du Faï, it's an international welcoming center. You will sleep in rooms of 3 to 6 beds and will have access to bathrooms, toilets, and the kitchen. There is no WIFI. But you will meet people coming from the whole world! This center is found 30 minutes walking distance from the Abbaye. You will cook in a rotation of roles, so that you can taste several specialties! Here, we pay attention to what we eat, to reduce our impact on the planet we try to eat a maximum of local products and we eat meat two times a week.

Location and leisure

Location: The farm of the Faï, at 3km of the village of Saix is 15 km from the first town, Veynes. Once or twice a week, we will organize a trip to the nearest town to go shopping. Leisure activities: You will be in an exceptional setting to discover the pleasures of mountain hiking, its rivers, its lakes, the farmers and producers markets, the festive nights organised in surrounding villages. In group, you will decide activities and discovery outings that you wish to set up. The reception center usually organizes one musical evening per week with homemade wood-fired pizzas.

Participate in the valorisation of a historic site at the heart of idyllic mountain landscapes ! Join us and come discover l’Abbaye de Clausonne and its natural environment at 1140 meters of altitude! It is in the XII century that the Abbaye sees the day. After multiple periods of deconstruction and of reconstruction over the centuries, in the 20th century, it became an agricultural building, which was abandoned in the 1950s. It is in 1994 that the association of friends of Abbaye of Clausonne was created to conserve the vestiges of this exceptional architecture, on an exceptional site. Since then, the association wanted to make this place a place of discovery, learning and knowledge.

Work

The path of the Monks meanders along the hillside below the chapel; it is supported by dry stone retaining walls and has a stone-covered walkway, known as a calade in south-eastern France. One of the retaining walls of the path, located under the chapel, is partly deteriorated due to lack of maintenance. You will participate in the restoration of this wall which is essential to put the chapel back in its place in the landscape by redrawing the flatness of the wall leading to it. The following work will be undertaken: dismantling and sorting of the stones, earthworks and reconstruction of the wall according to the very precise technique of dry stone construction (theoretical and practical input). You can also discover the technique of restoration of the dry stone path: punctual recovery of the damaged parts of the path, realization of stone steps. The workcamp will be supervised by a professional in dry stone construction techniques. A daily work of 6 hours is planned, the organization of the days will be discussed and decided by the group of participants. The pedagogical objective is to discover a traditional construction technique which does not require any material, except stones from the stoning of fields intended for agriculture or recovered from old buildings. Theoretical, historical and practical contributions will be disseminated. It should be noted that this workcamp is part of a more global action to enhance the site of the chapel. The population of the village is invited to take part in the work of clearing the brush and creating a calade on the chapel square.

Accomodation and food

You will be accommodated in tents at the Barillons campsite located in Serres. An animation team will be present to help you in the organization of the collective life: planning of household chores, elaboration of menus and preparation of meals in turn, organization of leisure activities and outings. The purchase of local products is widely favoured.

Location and leisure

Location: Serres is a small town in the South of France, nestled between the Alps and Haute Provence (30 km North of Sisteron, 140 km South of Grenoble). It has several services: train station, shops, Provencal market... Leisure activities: Land of light, scents and flavours, the Baronnies Provençal is a land where the sweetness of life is combined with the practice of outdoor sports like idleness! Rich in natural and agricultural heritages adapted to the Mediterranean climate under alpine influence, the Provencal Baronnies are marked by fragrant, aromatic and medicinal plants: wild thyme, rosemary, lavender. Near Serres, you can discover many major sites in the south of the Hautes-Alpes: Aujour mountain and Clausonne abbey, Saint-Genis mountain, the Méouge gorges, Orpierre site, the Riou lake where you can practice many sports activities (climbing, mountain biking, hiking, swimming in lakes and rivers).

Project hosted by

Come and discover one of the small perched towns in the South of France, Serres in the Alpes, which offers a magnificent panorama of the medium mountain range of the Baronnies Provençales! The town, leaning against the Pignolette rock, is made up of small shady medieval streets and covered and sloping passages in which it is good to stroll. At the top of this village and at the bend in the monks' path, is the chapel of Notre Dame de Bon Secours, which overlooks the Buëch valley. This building was erected in 1730 and blessed in 1732. Partly dug into the rock, it marries the hillside, on the presumed site of the former chapel of the castle of Serres. The Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park, in partnership with the association Les Villages des Jeunes and a hiking organization, launched an operation to raise awareness and promote the dry-stone building technique in 2018. Elected officials and inhabitants will be mobilized for this operation through restoration actions and discoveries of the dry-stone built heritage (conference, visit).

Work

*** VERSION EN FRANCAIS DISPONIBLE EN FIN DE DESCRIPTION *** *** French version at the end of the description *** Come to discover a prestigious itinerary of 28 km, which follows the Bourne River from Saint-Nazaire en Royans to Rencurel by connecting with the North of Vercors. Participate to the valorisation of the heritage elements of this majestic site that are the Gorges de la Bourne. Water is a constituent element of this part of the region: it has contributed to shape it, has participated in its development and is a unifying element from a natural and touristic point of view. With this long-term project, the Regional Natural Park of Vercors wishes to meet several objectives: re-beautify the crossing of Georges de la Bourne, valorising the natural, geological, historical and economical heritage related to the river and to facilitate the interpretation of landscapes and heritage. As a participant of this workcamp, you will help the Park to reach its objectives. As a group, you will follow the river’s path on 4 municipalities and you will carry out missions of cleaning, brushing, pruning and consolidation of the small walls bordering the river. This workcamp doesn’t require any specific skills. Your motivation and your interest in nature enhancement will be your main assets.

Accomodation and food

During this itinerant workcamp, you will be accommodated indoor in a communal lodging in the middle of the commune Pont en Royans, well known for its suspended houses over the Bourne River. You will have at your disposal collective rooms equipped with beds (think about bringing your sleeping bag with you), as well as common spaces where you will cook together, eat and relax. The toilettes and the showers are individual. You will organise together the collective life (cleaning, activities...) and you will participate alternately in the preparation of the meals. We will encourage the buying of local products and we will promote the principles of the local economy. Tastings of regional products are also possible at the local producers.

Location and leisure

Pont-en-Royans (around 800 inhabitants) is a dynamic commune with plenty of cultural and touristic activities. You will have the opportunity to discover the suspended houses which are a real heritage’s curiosity, to visit the museum of water, to swim at the specially equipped leisure centre on the banks of the Bourne River and to discover the Caves of Choranche. Nearby, you will also have the opportunity to go hiking and discover the natural landscapes of Royans and Vercors.

Project hosted by

For more than 15 years, Concordia is working in partnership with the Regional Natural Park of Vercors. This year, the Park celebrates its 50th anniversary and Concordia its 70th anniversary. Come to participate at this double anniversary and at a project with an important impact for the local community. You will be accompanied by the camp leaders from Concordia and supported by the Eco-Rangers from the Park, who are involved constantly in the management of natural places in Vercors.

Additional comments

Bring with you working gloves, warm clothes and shoes that you will not be afraid of getting dirty. Don’t forget your sleeping bag. In your backpack, bring also adapted clothes to rainy weather and hiking (sweaters, fleeces, raincoats…). Hiking shoes are useful for discovering the region. Think also about bringing solar protection (hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen cream) and a swimming suit. The free time activities will be programmed with your camp leaders according to your wishes. If you want to share a little bit of your culture (recipes, folk stories, and interesting objects) don’t hesitate to take with you a little bit of your country in your backpack! *** RETROUVEZ NOS DESCRIPTIFS EN FRANCAIS ICI: *** *** French version here: *** https://www.concordia.fr/chantiers-france-2020

Work

This project is a continuation of the work undertaken last year by volunteers. Your main project will be working on the restoration of a new part of the redoute's main facade. Work

*** VERSION EN FRANCAIS DISPONIBLE EN FIN DE DESCRIPTION *** *** French version at the end of the description *** From Luz-Saint-Sauveur, the Pyrenees Mountains are all yours. All the best hiking sites, peaks and highlands are easily accessible. Here, you will find the freedom to breathe freely, move, broaden your horizon and enjoy! Luz-Saint-Sauveur was a thermal hub for the noble and wealthy throughout the 18th century: the medicinal bathing sites attracted emperors, artists, intellectuals and more. Amongst the historical figures that often-visited Luz was French emperor Napoleon III (grandson of Napoleon the Ist). Fallen in love with the town in the mountains, he encouraged its development throughout the 1860s. Today Luz is perhaps the best-conserved heritage from that era in France and elsewhere. French emperor Napoleon III facilitated the construction of a monumental bridge over the Gave Canyon that splits the town in two quarters. To thank the emperor the people of Luz erected a gigantic column in his honor: the “Napoleon Column”. You will work on the square where the Column is placed, overviewing the deep canyon. Nowadays the bridge is used for bungee jumping, rafting, and other adventure sports, and the square has been damaged. You will replace the old pavement with more old-style cobbles, and hence make the square and the column a landmark in Luz once again.

Accomodation and food

You will be accommodated in a local apartment building with shared rooms – bring your warm sleeping bag and a camping mat - with showers and toilets. The group will share the cleaning tasks and prepare meals together. You will prepare the meals in shifts and participate in the organization of the collective life (planning, cleaning, shopping, etc.). We will encourage the purchase of local and seasonal products.

Location and leisure

The great writer Victor Hugo described Luz as a “charming old town… beautifully situated in a deep triangular valley… When the miquelets (Catalan militia men) and Spanish smugglers arrived from Aragon … they saw a great light… They named this town light, or Luz.” Luz Saint Sauveur is in the Hautes-Pyrenees County, south-west of France near the pilgrimage city of Lourdes. It is close to the most beautiful natural sites of the Pyrenees Mountains: • Midi Peak, • Gavarnie valley, • Bridge of Spain, • Neouvielle natural park, • Pyrenees National Park (with many highland lakes). The beauty and diversity of this county presents a great historical, architectural and environmental interest.

Project hosted by

The municipality has been developing a large project to restore its local heritage, especially through international workcamps. For over 5 years we have been renovating old streets, washhouses, fountains, and hiking trails. This year you will redecorate the “Napoleon Column”, one of the town’s landmarks.

Meeting point

Luz Saint Sauveur bus station (first reach Lourdes Train Station then take a bus until Luz Saint Sauveur, about 30 minutes)

Additional comments

Bring working clothes, gloves, and closed shoes. Bring a warm sleeping bag, as nights might be cold due to the altitude and we may also sleep in the mountains. To enjoy the mountains, bring your trekking shoes. For the brave ones who want to take a dip in the river, bring your swimming suit. Feel free to bring activities from home such as photos, games, musical instruments, etc. Foreigners from the European Union must bring their personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and all participants must bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise during the program, volunteers will need to cover all costs; they will be reimbursed upon their return to their home country. *** RETROUVEZ NOS DESCRIPTIFS EN FRANCAIS ICI: *** *** French version here: *** https://www.concordia.fr/chantiers-france-2020

Various works of environment and enhancement of the built and natural heritage (maintenance of sports course, approaches to a pond, restoration of wash houses and calvaires, ...) You will work in various spaces in and around the village frequented daily by the Chalaisiens. to improve their living environment. Worksite in the mornings and discoveries of the surroundings and collective life in the afternoons.

Accomodation and food

You will be welcomed at the municipal campsite, very comfortable! Sleeping under tents, camp beds provided. A covered dining area is reserved for you, with a kitchen where you can prepare good food in turn.

Location and leisure

Location : La Roche Chalais is located on the Greenwich meridian, at the crossroads of four departments and 70 km from Bordeaux, Périgueux and Angoulême. Leisure activities: Swimming, canoeing, sightseeing and on the campingsite, table tennis, pétanque, table football, entertainment around fishing with the local fishing club...

Project hosted by

The municipality of La Roche Chalais is hosting an international workcamp of volunteers for the fourth year: after carrying out paths which connect the village to the river and redeveloped the banks of the river we continue to work on the heritage and natural spaces of the village. In connection with the various political, cultural and technical actors of the territory, this camp will bring you to meet a rural territory and to participate in its dynamism. It will also be an opportunity to participate in a broader program of support for the integration of refugees in this territory through voluntary actions. Indeed, a group of local inhabitants mixing “original” inhabitants and newcomers will participate with you at the different times of the construction site, helping to break down the labels and stereotypes around migration and to enhance their involvement in this territory. All these different local people and the regulars of the campsite where you will be accommodated will offer you many ways to participate in local life: meals, activities with the children of the school, local associations... You will discover the hospitality of the population and the charm of the landscapes and local heritage, by organizing with the other volunteers and leaders your program of activities. With this project, you will be actively working for the Sustainable Development Goal n°10 from the United Nations: Reduced Inequalities.

In addition, we are proposing wood work such as the creation of a signage to enhance the place. During the project you’ll also develop festive events to present your culture (food, dance, songs…).

Accomodation and food

You’ll be sleeping in tents at the municipal campsite of Amiens (Camping du Parc des cygnes), near the park of the Grand Marais. A big tent will be fixed for the daily life with a space to cook and prepare the meals. In the campsite you can find sanitary (toilets, showers, sinks). The group of volunteers will prepare its own meals and share collective life tasks.

Location and leisure

Amiens, which is European youth capital in 2020, is a city of 130 000 inhabitants located in the North of France. The city is 1 hour from sea costs but also 1 hour by train from Paris. Amiens is also an attractive place with lots of heritage sites: its cathedral is the hugest of France; the district of Saint-Leu is nicknamed “small Venice of North” because of its river; the Hortillonnages and its floating gardens; the house of Jules Verne, famous French writer… and so more to discover! Moreover, the campsite you will live in is next to the river called “la Somme”, near Chemin du Halage, a bikeway of 120km from Peronne to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. The campsite is located near a park (Parc du Grand Marais) which offers during the summer free sports activities (canoeing, climbing, archery …).

Project hosted by

This is the second time we are working with La Maison du colonel. In 2018 we have coordinated together a European project which aimed to contribute to the isolation of the house using lime and hemp. Participants learned environmentally friendly techniques and participated to the life of the district implementing cultural and festive activities.

Work

The workcamp's goal is to help the association to develop. You will help restore the local heritage, continue the work begun by the group of volunteers last year: You will help restore a typical barn in the area (inside and outside masonry work), which is designed to host cultural events to support the hamlet and the entire territory. Your missions will be to remove the old joints and apply new mortar to make the barn waterproof and show its original appearance! Beyond this masonry work, you will be immersed in the hamlet's life. You will help maintain the site, the vegetable garden, help with the picking and harvesting. Get ready to discover a new eco-friendly life-style and bring back home tons of new good practices!

Accomodation and food

You will be accomodated in tents (2 people per tent), in the eco-camping of the association. The tents will be provided. You will have to bring their camping equipment (ground sheet, sleeping bag, etc.). The campsite includes sanitary facilities (showers with solar-heated water, dry toilets) and a summer kitchen with a breathtaking view over the valley. You will use and do your own environmental-friendly hygiene and care products (soaps, toothpaste, laundry, etc.). You, volunteer, are actor/actress of your project ! You will manage the tasks of daily life in teams (shopping, cooking, and cleaning). You will also have the opportunity to bake your special meals in the association’s bread oven! A new experience to discover! A rotation will be organised by the campleaders to ensure the smooth running of daily life. The objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning! All together, you will think about how to work together, feed everyone, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most environnementaly and human-friendly way.

Location and leisure

The association is a charming drop-in center, located in a hamlet where the management group and some neighbours live together and host from time to time, holiday-makers, friends and hikers. The hamlet is composed of a cottage, several workshops, some typical stone and wooden houses, a hut, a barn, some camping sites, a vegetable garden, an orchard... The eco-hamlet is located in the medieval town of Fontanges, very rich in heritage, in a valley near the Cantal Mountains, crossed by the river Aspre. There are many walks and hikes to do. You will be able to visit the surrounding villages, discover waterfalls and observe the local fauna and flora. Close by, you will be able to visit the typical village of Salers where you can meet craftsmen and taste delicious local specialties.

Project hosted by

The association La Feina is a charming lively space and drop-in centre for youth facing social difficulties. It is a place that allows people who pass by to reconnect with nature by getting rid of the unnecessary. They disconnect one moment from society and better reconnect with nature and others. The assoication La Feina is managed by a group of people who have chosen to experience, on a daily basis, an eco-friendly way of life. The association and its eco-hamlet come to life by organising educational workshops: crafts, agriculture, environmental education. The association also welcomes groups and events on the land. Their activities are integrated respecting the local dynamics. The eco-hamlet is located in a beautiful rural mountainous areas. The activities proposed are organised taking into consideration the surrounding environment and available resources. Last year (2019), two workcamps were organised in La Feina. Volunteers helped organise an official opening celebration and started to renovate the hamlet's barn : the "GRAOUNGE". More info: www.lafeina.lautre.net

Additional comments

The hamlet is located in a beautiful, rather isolated, rural valley (15 minutes by car from the nearest village, 30 minutes by car from the nearest town). The association does not have WiFi by choice, and the mobile network is weak. But don’t worry, enjoy reconnecting with yourself, the people around you and the environment! Volunteers can access a wired internet connection and network sharing. Unfortunately, the site is not accessible by wheelchair. As you understood, sustainable development is in the heart of the project. For reasons of consistency, we encourage you to choose environmentally friendly ways to travel, and avoid planes if possible.

Campleaders will guide you along the project. You will also take part in the tourist activities of the site by welcoming the visitors (tourists and local inhabitants) in the castle and explain the work, show the progress you have been doing the last few weeks! It is a countryside rich with historical heritage, which you will be able to discover by visiting a few of the numerous castles and medieval cities, by hiking, going by bike or canoeing, according to what the leading team and the weather can propose. The inhabitants of the village are used to seeing volunteers from all over the world come every summer. You will pick up bread from the innkeeper Didier, ask for eggs on a Sunday evening to Monique, the weather the next day to Jean Pascal, show your progress to Jean Louis who is passionate about the castle, you will feast with the fruits and vegetables offered by the local gardeners...and so much more! The campleaders will prepare games and activities for the group but will also encourage you to propose and build your own activities according to your desires. Bring ideas and be creative !

Project hosted by

Inside a lovely little French village, the castle of Montaigu le Blin is an impressive medieval fortress, classified as Historical Monument. It is located on the top of a hill, overlooking the countryside. Since 2002, volunteers have been participating, every summer, to the restoration of the castle. These last years, the fortress has regained its beauty! In 2019, the volunteers started to restore the masonry of the Chambers of Lords and created a medieval vegetable garden at the foot of the tower. This year, it's your turn to live an experience back in time!

EXTRA FEES: reduced to 250€ for international volunteers. Pay attention! Our national participants in France pay the regular 360€ of extra fees. International volunteers coming from our partners in other countries than France pay only 250€ of extra fees. Pay attention that there is no wifi access on the Workcamp site, the telephone network is also quite low. However, the volunteers will be able to find a public wifi in the village. Who needs an internet during a Workcamp anyway? The site is unfortunately not accessible to people in wheelchairs. Globally on our teenager’s camps, we chose to book half of the spots for french volunteers. The aim is to allow a maximum of young people to access intercultural learning, to promote volunteer's commitment as a first step and then experience international workcamp abroad. By participating in this workcamp, you are combatting climate change (UN SDG 13 Climate Action)
