The school surroundings need maintaining so the volunteers will work with seasonal tasks indoors and outdoors including environmental tasks.You will learn how to make seal-friendly fishing traps in order to save the endangered Saimaa ringed seals The volunteers will get to know the surrounding nature as well as familiarize themselves with the topic Youth and Peace. The United Nations adopted in 2015 a ground-breaking resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security, which recognizes that young people play an important and positive role in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security. During the camp the volunteers will learn about peace in everyday life through non-formal learning activities such as games, workshops and discussions how young people can promote peace at all levels of society for their own part.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be in dormitory, meals provided. There are possibilities for various creative and other activities. Sauna and swimming facilities are also available.

Lage und Freizeit

Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a location of superb natural beauty, surrounded on both sides by lakes. The area offers opportunities for outdoor activities.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The host organization Ikko is a non-political and non-religious folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international students and groups throughout the year. They also host special target groups such as students with special needs as well as young asylum seekers. In this project you are working to progress the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by by increasing intercultural learning and understanding (SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities).




This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps programme and is only open for 18-30 year old citizens or residents of Finland. Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the camp in order to get their pocket money and travel cost reimbursed. The volunteers should have their own travel or accident insurance.
