Arbeit

The main task for the volunteers will be to participate in landscaping work, under the guidance of the site management and specialists. The volunteers will also collect visitor data through surveys, and will have an important role in the pre-production of the Classic Boat Race event. Participants will have the chance to join orientation and discussion sessions on World Heritage, authenticity, preservation, values, social sustainability, and ecological sustainability issues. There will also be a Camp Day as an open invitation to engage the locals in volunteering landscape work at the site.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in dorms in Suomenlinna hostel, lunches will be provided, dinners prepared by volunteers.

Fortress of Suomenlinna, built gradually from 1748 onwards on a group of islands, is located 15-minute ferry ride off the City of Helsinki, capital of Finland. Today, Suomenlinna is one of the most popular tourist attractionsin Finland and constitutes a district of Helsinki with 800 inhabitants.http://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/

Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) is a sea fortress, which was built gradually from 1748 onwards on a group of islands belonging to the district of Helsinki. . The landscape and the architecture of the fortress have been shaped by several historic eventsThe UNESCO World Heritage Site in Suomenlinna is restored, maintained and governed by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna that operates under the Ministry of Education and Culture.The project intends to raise awareness among volunteers of the need to protect and promote World Heritage.

Anforderungen

The volunteers need to have interest towards World Heritage and prepare themselves before the camp in order to tell about the World Heritage projects in their home countries. The applicants need to provide one page motivation letter together with their application explaining why they would like to join the project, if they have any previous experience in WH and what could be their contribution to the project. Registration fee 50 euros

Arbeit

The volunteers will assist in organizing a local music festival in Jalasjarvi. Aukusti festival has been organised since 2000.The volunteers will assist in practical tasks,simple but sometimes heavy work, in arranging the event. The first week will mostly consist of building the fences and setting up and on the second week tidying up the area afterwards. So if you are interested in rock music and the Finnish countryside, and are ready to work hard outdoors in all weather conditions this is the camp for you.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation is at a local youth centre Wilhola within walking distance from the festival area. There is a shared sleeping area. Meals will be cooked together by the volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

Jalasjarvi. Jalasjarvi is located in Southern Ostrobothnia near Seinajoki and has about 8000 inhabitants. The youth centre has a lot of activities (own movie theatre) and pool table, games etc.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The camp host is the local cultural association Mukula which organises various cultural events for children and young people such as an annual rock festival in Jalasjarvi. The festival attracts several thousand guests. The organiser has hosted many great work camps earlier related to this festival.

Anforderungen

Please note that there will physical taska and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps and open for 20-30 year old citizens and permanent residents of EU countries and Ukraine. Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (5 euros per day) and travel cost reimbursed (20-360 euros depending on the distance). Applicants need to send a motivation letter.

Arbeit

The theme of the camp is multicultural equality and community. The goal is to increasc equality and community between different parties. Regarding equality, the campers pian and implement a half-day event at three schools in Kuusamo, where thcre are students from different cultures. The goal is to increase encounter and tolerance, as weil as community spirit within the school and to support equality in the school s everyday life. In relation to community spirit, the volunteers together wilh the local Red Cross volunteers organize also an open event where the multiculturalism of Kuusamo is brought to the fore and, for cxample, the food culture and music ofdifferent countries get visibility. Inaddition to the reception centre, Kuusamo has many other residents from diffcrent cultural backgrounds.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Home for volunteers is a reception center located in Kuusamo, vvhere most of the camp s every day tasks are carried out in addition to theme days. The reception center in Kuusamo has been opened in August 2022 and has around 200 residents.Accommodations and cooking facilities are at reception center. Accommodation is shared with other volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

Kuusamo lies in Koillismaa, in the north-east comer of the old Oulu province. Kuusamo community Centre is 217 kilometres from Oulu, l 95 from Rovaniemi and 245 from Kajaani. A flight from Kuusamo to Helsinki takes less than an hour and a drive from Kuusamo to Oulu two and a half.Kuusamo is appr 16000 residents cit) , with beautiful nature. Kuusamo is one of the most visited nature town in Finland. Unique nature of Kuusamo ofTers many possibilities.Weather condition may vary; weather can be like end of summer (cold evenings. warm days), but possibility also rainy days. .
