Work

Camping Monte Holiday who is responsible to lodge the volunteers and has donated the land where the project takes place, De Amicitia who is the NGO responsible of developing international volunteer workcamps. De Amicitia organises 8 projects in the Camping Monte Holiday every year. The camp takes place is an empty land with some tents. The task of the volunteers will be creating and constructing a nice place for the teenagers that will be camp in the same place during the summer with some tools and materials using their creativity. The tasks will be: -Setting the kitchen facilities in the geodesic dome that is built by the previous volunteers -Building some basic furnitures from the pallets -Cleaning the area -Setting the big meeting tent (haima) and others Gargantilla del Lozoya is a natural town in the mountains of Madrid. The volunteers will have chance to connect with the nature .

Accomodation and food

Accommodation is provided in 1 or 2 person tents in the Camping Monte Holiday (http://www.monteholiday.com/en/home) that offers hot showers, toilet areas, washing machines and recreation areas, swimming pool and free Wi-Fi (not available all the time and not in the sleeping area). Boys and girls will sleep separately. You need to bring a sleeping bag and a sheet. Food will be prepared by volunteers. Volunteers are asked to help with preparation of their own breakfasts and they will be provided with fresh drinks. Lunch and dinner will be prepared by the volunteers. Campsite accommodation itself provides basic conditions and the quality of those depend also on cleanliness and contribution of all participants.

Location and leisure

The workcamp takes place in Gargantilla del Lozoya, small village of Sierra Norte about 80km away from Madrid. Gargantilla is part of several municipalities of the Valley of Lozoya, most of these are little villages but you can find all you need to live. It’s near Buitrago del Lozoya or Rascafría, these are larger villages, and there you can find banks and bigger shops as well. There are nice paths in the mountains and two lakes for the leisure time volunteers will have chance to make some excursions.

De Amicitia is an Environmental non-profit, non-governmental organization that is located in a rural mountainous area, Sierra Norte, 80 km away from Madrid. De Amicitia is a member of The Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations is an International Non-Governmental Youth Organisation that represents national organisations which promote intercultural education, understanding and peace through voluntary service. The Alliance, founded in 1982, is presently made up of full, associate and candidate members in 29 countries worldwide. De Amicitia provides an opportunity for volunteers, both youngsters and adults, to take part in local and international volunteering activities, especially towards environmental protection and sustainable development. These mainly include international workcamps, but also activities in the local areas such as reforestations. In addition, De Amicitia takes part in International youth exchanges and seminars, both as a host and sending organizations. These are focused primarily on social activities and promoting development, peace and human rights. Due to our location in a rural area, one of De Amicitia priorities is to help improve local development.

Work

Work has an environmental character. In Altea, there is a river Algar, which is natural habitat and where protected plants inhabit. At the same time, there are some invasive plants. The task of volunteers will be to differentiate those plants, control of the plant in biotope and clean the river from the invasive plants. The municipality will ask volunteers to do other types of manual work for the environment, depending on the necessities of the municipality in a certain moment. The group may work with people of the local area and maybe support a local festival of Lindy Hop. Tools and working boots will be available. One of the tasks could be to help on archaeological excavation site, depending on working permissions and how clean is river Algar at the moment when project is taking place.

Accomodation and food

Accommodation will be in a country house 1 km away from Altea La Vella, which is a small town 4 km away from Altea provided with matterses and pillows. Volunteers will cook for themselves. The accommodation is basic. This project will include a one day only vegan food day agreed by volunteers for the promotion of environmental sustainable lifestyle.

Location and leisure

Altea is a charming touristic town, located in the seaside. It offers possibilities of swim in the sea, take a sun bath on the beach, play beach volleyball and other activities in your free time. It is also possible to see another nearby towns on the weekend.

Requirements

Sleeping bag and sheets required. Living conditions are basic and work may be quite demanding (physical work under hot sun). Volunteers are asked to be very motivated for such project. You need to bring your own bottom sheet and cushion.

Work

The work will involve renovating parts of the old town which have fallen into disrepair. The volunteers will rebuild local path and other infraestructures and create the access to the local bridge- the better to ancourage the young people of the area to become active citizens in their town and to try to avoid them leaving to go to bigger cities. Volunteers may organise a happening for locals on the last day to promote the idea of voluntary workcamps.

Accomodation and food

Town hall will lend an old culture centre beside the local rural wall tennis court. Conditions are basic. Volunteers will cook breakfast but will have catering for lunch and a sandwich for dinner at local bars. Summer sleeping bag and lower sheets will be needed. This project will include a one day only vegan food day agreed by volunteers for the promotion of environmental sustainable lifestyle.

Location and leisure

Town of 3000 inhabitants is part of Madrid region, located 60 km north from Spanish capital. Town will enable volunteers to experience the countryside atmosphere in summertime. In free time you may visit Madrid and nearby El Altazar and its dam.

Work

The work done is the continuation of the precautionary archaeological excavation at the Islamic medina of Almatà coordinated by an archaeologist. On the first day of work, the participants will receive a specific training focused on how to use the different professional tools. The work is focused on cleaning the surface area of intervention and digging of the indicated sectors. The participants will also take care of the digitation of the archeological information collected during the excavation.

Accomodation and food

The accommodation will be in a polyvalent hall of the school of the town in Balaguer. The volunteers have to bring sleeping bag and camping matt. There will be a picnic kitchen installed in order the volunteers can cook. There will be toilets and shower in the hall.

Location and leisure

Volunteers will have a wide range of afternoon activities, evening and night games, which aim to improve group relationships and venture into the area of human values. They will have the opportunity to visit Vilanova de la Sal and they will do an excursion to the fantastic landscapes of Congost Montrebei.

Work

The workcamp general objectives include learning the main techniques of archaeological excavation, raise the awareness about the importance of excavations, analyze and define hypothesis concerning prehistory and history. During the workcamp, the volunteers will: - Excave and extract, exploring different sectors of Can Sadurní cave, and prepare the excavation of the main entrance to the cave. - Participate in drawing stratigraphic sections and writing data of the pieces found, recover some heritage elements of dry stones from the surroundings of Can Sadurní. - Start the construction of a neolithical cabin located in the outside terrace of the cave. -Contribute to the maintenance of the surroundings and different access to the cave.

Accomodation and food

In the sports centre of the school, mattresses will be provided. Sheets or sleeping bag needed. We will dispose of showers and toilets for girls and boys.

Location and leisure

Volunteers will have a wide range of afternoon activities, evening and night games, which aim to improve group relationships and ventures into the area of human values. There will be an opportunity to visit the region and appreciate the most of its rich culture: overnight excursion to Garraf Natural Park, trip to Barcelona (one-day visit), theatre play open to the entire population of Begues (during the last evening the play will be done to represent the historical aspects of the cave from the findings), farewell party with technical team and mayors, rehearsal with “castellers” (one of the typical traditions in Catalonia).

Work

The work of volunteers will be to paint city walls. And create murals and drawings according to common agreement on topic and global idea of intervention. The townhall will provide the bucket paints and maybe some spray paints so that volunteers can create their art on the big walls around the town. We are looking for an artistic co leader for this project. The task of the co leader will be to organise the art work, help the volunteers on their designs. In this project, the first day are usually very important and caotic as the volunteers are designing their artworks on the paper and mostly they don't know how to fit their ideas to a wall and work as a team in the art field. The artistic leader will guide the volunteers in order to create harmony in their art works and if its needed show them some techniques to improve their work.

Accomodation and food

The accommodation will be in the gym of a high school. As there is no one in the school during the summer, the accommodation and also the school yard will be just for us. There will be mattresses provided. And also town hall will provide the food for us and it will be cooked by the volunteers in the basic camping kitchen in the school yard. There are showers and bathrooms for girls and boys separately. Summer sleeping bag and lower sheets will be needed! This project will include a one day only vegan food day agreed by volunteers for the promotion of environmental sustainable lifestyle.

El Saucejo is a town located 80 km away from Sevilla. You reach Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba or Malaga in a bit more than an hour. We advise you to book some extra days to do all these excursions. You will enjoy nice natural areas around and lively summer Spanish fiestas. Temperatures in July here are really high, so be prepared for hot summer. Village has 4500 inhabitants. Economic activity is based on agriculture but there are some steps forward to tourism, as it is a dwelling town from which you are able to reach the nicest spots of Andalucia. It is very well-known for the improvements taken on reduction of energy consumption. For instance, the whole town uses a special illumination system designed by a local citizen that helps to reduce light pollution.

Additional comments

De Amicitia wouldn't be able to pay the travel costs for the co leader but we can reimburse the travel from Malaga airport to campside. We don't ask any extra fee from the co leader.

Work

Clean-up activities (grubbing and cleaning up) to better document the fortification buildings. Exploratory and prospecting works of the ground in search of new karstic cavities, cleaning up. Cleaning of the cave of castro, located in the possible acropolis of the settlement. Excavation using archaeological methods in surveys raised previously. Cover Works with soil and geotextile to protect the exhumed remains.

Accomodation and food

Accommodation: Accomodation will be in shared tents or bungalows. Food: Breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner are included. Alternative menus for justified reasons are also provided. This option must be specified at the time of booking. There will be a picnic in outings and trips.

El Monte Cincho is located in the municipality of Santillana del Mar in the autonomous community of Cantabria. It is situated in the western coast of Cantabria. Santillana del Mar is considered a medieval villa and declared a Historic- Artistic Site. Leisure activities: The aim of the complementary activities will be to promote solidarity, coexistence, equality and participation are as follows: - Animation (evenings, group dynamization, etc.). - Different workshops: on cultural heritage of Cantabria, on equality,aims of sustainable development, etc. - Leisure time activities: Climbing, Surfing, walking trails, etc. - Full day excursion to Santander (capital of the autonomous community). - Full day beach touristic, cultural or sport excursion. - Day of coexistence with the local community to make the work done visible.

Work

The volunteer's work will provide intensive experience of enjoying free time and learning English language for kids and teenagers during two weeks in summer. The camp program includes games, activities, workshops, sports, excursions, swimming pool, etc. Simultaneously, the workshops will try to teach other values such as intercultural, tolerance, the respect for the environment and promote the culture of peace. The language of the camp is English. Volunteers will help to co-create the workshops in English for local children and teenagers. Activating kids and teenagers, providing cross-cultural learning experience for them as well as English language environment. It will be done through the games, workshops, sport activities, excursions, discussions, etc. It would be a bonus if volunteers could speak a little Spanish but it’s is not essential.

Accomodation and food

The town hall of Braojos is providing us the youth hostel of the town. The hostel has 10 rooms with bunk beds(rooms for 4 to 10) to share within participants, with saparete toilet area.Boys and girls will sleep separately. The volunteers have to bring their own sleeping bags and sheets. Food will be prepared by the volunteers.

Braojos is a town of 200 inhabitants in the northern area of Madrid municipality, 86 km away from Madrid and it takes approximately a bit more than 1 hour to reach it. During the weekend and free time you may visit the Spanish capital.

The technical work of the project "The conservation of all Paths in the Valley of Siarb" consists on physical work: clearing paths, putting stones aside the way, rebuilding the easier section of dry stone wall, improving the signals with paint and improving paths of the paved section.

Balmes Blancs is an association that runs the “Refugi Vall de Siarb”. A kind of “ Youth Hostel” in a small village in the Catalan Pyrenees. The Refugi is in Llagunes, 15 people village at 1300 meters high. Tourists and hikers visit this area and enjoy walking nice paths around and contemplating the rural landscape of the area. Balmes Blancs was born as a project whose mission is to valorise the Catalan territory and in particular in the mountain regions by designing and implementing thematic experiences in nature. The proposed activities combining sport, mainly hiking while learning about relevant aspects of the place visited, either in the natural, historical or cultural fields.

Work

Volunteers will help restoring natural areas promoting work has an environmental character. Manuel has three important natural areas that need to be taken care. Albaida river, the Natural Protected Area of Las salinas with the Salinas House and the old abandoned railway. Leisure and culture in Manuel have been strongly connected with these three natural areas. Municipality is restoring the area together trying to involve the local youngsters. The task of volunteers will be improve the natural areas, clean the river bends, check and signalize trails and reconstruct the garden of La casa de las salinas. The municipality will ask volunteers to do other types of manual work for the environment, depending on the necessities of the municipality in a certain moment. Tools, gloves and working boots will be available. One of the tasks could be to help on archaeological excavation site, depending on working permissions and how clean is the river at the moment when the project is taking place.

Accomodation and food

Accommodation will be at the gym of the local school right in the town center. We will provide with mattresses but vols should bring pills and summer sleeping bags (or sheets) Volunteers will cook for themselves. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. There will be free access to the swimming pool. This project will include a one day only vegan food day agreed by volunteers for the promotion of environmental sustainable lifestyle.

Manuel is a charming agriculture town, located very close to Valencia. You Will be able to experience a truly immersion of Spanish culture while have the possibility of exploring a big city as Valencia and the beaches nearby. It is also possible to see another nearby towns on the weekend or preferably after the workcamp, so you may reserve some extra days for that.

Since the last year this town hall is developing a policy of sustainable tourism which includes the recuperation of deprived environmental areas and cultural heritage together with a policy to support and involve as active citizens youngsters in order not to loose population. Maintenance of local cultural patrimony is also a primary goal of the actual policy in Manuel.

Íllora is a Spanish town and municipality located in the eastern part of the region of Loja in Granada province in Andalusia. The most important musical event held in the town is the Parapanda Folk festival. It has been declared as National Tourist Festival. It involves both national and international ethnic music groups. This activity is considered of great cultural significance. Description of work: - Building and removing festival facilities (including decoration) - Help in the kitchen of the festival - Cleaning the facilities - Advertising - Other activities (children s workshops, dances, etc. ) - Support other festival related task. Keep in mind that part of the work requires an important physical effort and that the temperatures during those dates are usually very high.

Accomodation and food

Participants will be accommodated in public buildings (school or in sports facilities), using mats and sleeping bags (brought by participants) in beds. They will cook for themselves, basic kitchen will be provided for them.

Description of location and leisure: lllora is a Spanish town and municipality located in the eastern part of the region of Loja in Granada province in Andalusia. Work

The aim of this youth volunteer project is to improve the Pedroko Wetland and the green areas in the surroundings of the Agurain district, including the Oriamendi park, Galzar and numerous streams and rivers. The 184,700 m2 area comprises a large plantation of native plant species surrounding four bodies of water with two islets. There are parts of a perimeter trail, a hill with an observatory and a small car park.

Accomodation and food

The activities to be carried out are: - Count gaps in the vegetation. Define what is missing and mark the locations. - Dig holes to plant at the locations where plants are missing. - Clear watering basins of plants that are in good condition. - Water plants that are in good condition. - Maintain the items installed in the area, mainly the perimeter fence and observatory. - Reposition the windows of the observatory. - Place supports inside the pools. - Restore the car park area and prepare the area for shrub planting with a view to creating a vegetation barrier to act as an impediment to park access. - Maintain the wetlands internal paths and clear the paths from the car park to the observatory and from the access area to the observatory. - Maintain the entry and exit channels of water to the pools, as well as the water channels between them. - Clean and remove waste and invasive plants, if applicable, throughout the work area. - Improve the vegetation on the banks of the pools and replace waterside plants in these areas if necessary. - Work of a similar scale is planned for the parks of Galzar and Oriamendi, in case the objectives set for Pedroko cannot be achieved on legitimate grounds or if the work is completed.

Location and leisure

Location of the work camp: The area of work is mainly the Pedroko Wetland, but work will also be carried out at Galzar and Oriamendi, which are restored natural areas outside the Agurain nucleus. Accommodation: Agurain Municipal Hostel, Galzar street, s/n.

Meeting point

The meeting point will be on the first day of the camp in Salvatierra-Agurain at 18:00 at the Town Hall. Zapatari street, 15. If you are unable to arrive at the stated time, you must arrive within the following 24 hours; always with good cause and after advising the Department of Youth and Sports of the Basque Government.

Additional comments

Work camp activities will require work and safety material that the organisation of the camp will supply. If any places reserved for overseas volunteers are vacant, the team will be completed with young people from Spain.

Requirements

People with good knowledge of English, who are interested in Conservation of natural heritage. Any person with the will to work who finds this topic interesting. Participants must also be able to work in a team and enjoy coexisting with and meeting people from other countries.
