Apart from working, you will, of course, have time to participate in all sorts of activities at the school and in the local area. It would be a good idea to bring swimming clothes, sports clothes (among other things, you will have the chance to try out mountain biking or testing out the new course with workshops in parkour and natural movement), and maybe even clothes for going out if you like to plan a trip to Copenhagen during the weekend.

Præstø Outdoor is a volunteer-driven organization of people who are passionate about building communities, improving people’s health and enjoying nature through outdoor sports such as mountain biking, trail running and climbing. Most of their activities currently take place in Faksinge Forest near the lovely little town of Præstø one hour south of Copenhagen. Faksinge forest already has an excellent mountain bike trail, which is open to the public all year round, and Præstø Outdoor wish to establish a running trail with several obstacles and natural parkour areas along with it. They would also like to build a trail centre – a simple structure where people can meet, find shelter, share information, wash their equipment and have a barbecue or cup of coffee. For hosting you on this camp Præstø Outdoor are collaborating with Bosei Folkhighschool, which is placed inside Faksinge Forest and is the home of approx. 70 students, mainly aged 20-30, who are interested in sports, Japanese culture and personal development. This means that they are more than used to hosting and offering a wide range of fun activities for young people. Bosei is currently working towards more sustainability and is among other things wanting to start producing their own organic vegetables. You can visit Bosei’s webpage here: https://www.bosei.dk/en/ Or see a video of the place here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uQa0KApvYY

Volunteers are expected to follow the rules of the school. We want to make sure that you appreciate, that our workcamp is not a party camp - but a camp where we meet each other in a mutual understanding of a wish, to share culture from the world. All work will be outdoors, quite physical and mainly in the forest no matter the weather. Although it is generally nice in Denmark this time of year, you can never know, so you must be prepared to face both sunshine and rain and get some dirt on your hands. It is preferable, but not required to have some kind of practical skills, since you are to build, paint, etc.

Krav

People, who are used to work with their hands in combination with artistic skills, will be preferred to the work camp and volunteers are expected to be ready to share their culture with the other participants and students at the school. Special motivation letters and other requirements may be attached to the info-sheet. Unfortunately, we cannot accept participants with disabilities, due to the physical nature of the work English at a conversational level is required.

The Island of Mandø is located in the middle of the National Park, with great walks, opportunities to see millions of birds, seals and unique nature. Oyster banks are found here and there. You are living next to fields with sheep and cows and nature-friendly agriculture. People have lived here since the 12th century and traditions, history and local culture is strong. Kayaking, hiking, bathing is possible. Bring your own gear. A guided trip to Ribe, Denmark's oldest royal town, and Wadden Sea Centre will be arranged. The Warden Sea Center is internationally rewarded for exceptional design interpretation of the Wadden Sea. The camp project is supervised by a steering group including: • The Association of people from the island of Mandø • Wadden Sea National Park • The Municipality of Esbjerg • The Danish Agency for Nature • The Danish Fund for Nature. The Wadden Sea National Park was established in 2010 and is Denmark's biggest national park (1459 km2). The aim is to conserve, protect and strengthen the natural and cultural-historical values of the area and support a sustainable development, which can be beneficial for guests, local development and the local population. The Wadden Sea National Park is born into the trilateral collaboration with Denmark, Germany and Netherlands to protect the Wadden Sea. The Wadden Sea is also UNESCO World Heritage – world heritage shared between Denmark, Germany and Netherlands - stretching over 500 km from Ho (Denmark) in the north to Den Helder (Netherlands) in the south. The island of Mandø (8 km2) is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea in Denmark and the highest point (the dunes) is 12 m above the sea. It is a unique island with 30 local inhabitants and some tourists, mainly day-trippers, during summer, autumn and spring. There are no bridges or ferries to the island, instead, you can drive by bicycle, car or tractor two times a day, when the tide is right. People on Mandø are very active. They live in the village of Mandø and have organized themselves into local associations which aim for protecting the natural and cultural values of the island of Mandø as well securing workplaces, setting up local events and activities for the local population, visitors and tourists. On the island of Mandø, you will find a café, a bed & breakfast, a (small) camping site, an inn, a small hostel, some summer bungalows, a few farms, a church, a museum, a small grocery and open, friendly people, who are used to do things together and help each other. You can walk around the island in 1,5-2 hours. . www.nationalparkvadehavet.dk https://da-dk.facebook.com/Vadehavet https://www.instagram.com/nationalparkvadehavet/
