Arbeit

As a volunteer, you will teach English for about 20-25 hours each week. Most of your teaching will be in a local primary school, working alongside a local teacher. You'll also get help from different professionals to plan your lessons.

There is a total of 4 schools, with 2 in Medellin and 2 in El Carmen de Viboral. Volunteers will be placed in one of these schools to teach.

With your support in teaching English you can contribute to the foundation's purpose of reducing inequality in Colombia.
Help us achieve the national goal of being a bilingual country and train children to be global citizens!

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteer receives monthly $1.600 000 COP (approx. 360 EUR) for accommodation, transportation and food. The local foundation will help you finding an accommodation.

Lage und Freizeit

Medellín, 'the city of eternal spring', capital of the Antioquia department, has a pleasant climate of around 24°C; it offers modern transport systems like Metro and Metro Cable. Located in a valley surrounded by mountains, this city is always friendly to visitors.

From the mountains that surround the capital of Antioquia you can see how the Medellín River runs parallel to the Metro, which connects various parts of the city. There is an abundance of parks, libraries, museums and public spaces where many cultural events take place. There is a flower festival and in the surrounding villages life is simple with relaxing landscapes and nature reserves.

Places such as the Botanical Garden, the Pies Descalzos park, the Berrío park and the Lleras park are places that you cannot miss.
In addition, Medellín has Parque Explora, an interactive science and technology museum in which children and adults can learn and try a large number of activities. Nearby you find the Planetarium and the Parque de los Deseos.
For more information visit: https://colombia.travel/en/medellin

El Carmen de Viboral (1h from Medellin) is a small municipality located in a rural area where you can find many cultural activities.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This project will be carried out in cooperation with a non-profit organization whose volunteer program is an opportunity to support public institutions and rural educational institutions in Medellín and El Carmen de Viboral.

Arbeit

Help us build an EcoDome with sustainable materials in the heart of a natural park, designed as a space to rest and share the ancestral knowledge of the Muisca culture.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accomodation is a nice and cozy house only for the volunteers in the middle of the natural park.
Please bring a sleeping bag.
There is a laundry to wash your clothes.

Volunteers will cook together. This is a perfect space to share recipes and have a culinary cultural exchange. Shopping is organized by the leader(s) and the park, but the volunteers might help. Vegetarian food option also available.
Please do not expect expensive/special ingredients (olive oil, nuts, etc), but the Colombian cuisine is rich in fruits, vegetables and 3x a week there will be meat in the menu.

The water heater depends on the availability of gas. On some occasions, hot showers might not be available, but in general there is hot water available.

Lage und Freizeit

You can learn about eco-agriculture and work in the agroecological garden.
During your volunteering you will try some typical dishes from the region and do activities such as walks through the reserve, zip-lining and the KYE MUYSUA, an ancestral experience workshop: Weaving under the tree of dreams in the company of Andean music, meditation and fire.

This natural park is an Andean cloud forest, in the middle of the mountains; therefore it can be cold and rainy, depending on the season of the year. The park is located close to Bogotá (1 hour approx.) where you can find many places to enjoy the Colombian culture.
In case you do not want to leave the park, we have some activities that you can do in your free time such as:
1. Night walks and wildlife watching (there is a guided tour on weekends)
2. Trekking inside and outside the park (e.g. visiting other village on trails)
3. Extreme sport and wellness activities: zip line, tree climbing, music therapy (must be agreed in advance with the areas, the park does not cover the cost of this activity)
4. Horseback riding (must be agreed in advance with the areas, the park does not cover the cost of this activity)
5. Bonfires
6. Birdwatching

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This project will be carried out in cooperation with a natural park, located near Bogotá, between 2.100m and 2.600m above sea level.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

15 July at 9am in Bogotá, at Centro Comercial Hayuelos.
