The camp for Belarusian high school pupils aged 12i18 and pupils of the same age from abroad (neighboring countries - Ukraine, Russia) takes place every year in the ancient town of Uzda. Foreign volunteers work independently (with the help of Belarusian teachers and volunteers) to plan, prepare and perform non-formal interactive language classes for children in order to improve their conversational skills. You will work max 5 hours per day in the morning and before the lunch. But in the afternoon and in the evening you are welcome to enjoy the activities held by the Belarusian volunteers (debates, movies, sports, table games, outdoor games, music, dancing, crafts, fine arts, etc). English is supposed to be the only means of communication in the campsit will challenge stereotypes or prejudices and establish new contacts between nations.
Unterkunft und Verpflegung
You will live in a building of the local boarding school (there will be only participants of the project), in several separate rooms for boys and girls (3-4 people per room). There are beds with bed linens, showers with hot water and toilets inside the building. However, there s no washing machine. Meals 4 times per day and snacks will be provided in a local canteen.
Lage und Freizeit
The workcamp is situated in Uzda, Minsk region, Belarus (65 km from Minsk). The town is known since the 15th century and has several tourist attractions.The infrastructure is well-developed, so you will find everything necessary here: banks and currency exchange offices, shops, bars and cafes, pharmacy, local market, post-office etc. During your leisure time you are welcome to participate in all outdoor or indoor activities with kids. You will be able to go to the capital Minsk and enjoy its wide range of free-time opportunities. Please be aware that the place is a bit far away from the city and it will not be possible to go to the city every day (For individual trips you have to pay yourself). The volunteers will need to fly (or arrive with any other transport: train, bus etc.) to Minsk. Important: you don t need visa only if you come with the plain The volunteers will be met in Minsk by the Belarusian volunteers and move with them to the workcamp.
Wer organisiert das Projekt?
LYVS (League of Youth Voluntary Service) is a non-profit, non-governmental public organization, founded in 1994 and based in Minsk, Belarus. The project is organized in cooperation with Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs (BelAU), whose mission is advocacy of humanitarian principles and ideas of UNESCO in education, science and culture. The purpose of this camp is to develop communication skills and improve level of language skills through the use of non-formal education, as well as the use of English as a bridge for cultural and social activities for high school kids.
The volunteers are expected to speak English well (at least B1 level is required) and have a desire to work with teenagers. We welcome those who is willing to learn and share cultural experience, active, creative, tolerant, easy-going and positive Motivation letter is required. Do not forget to bring some warm clothes (it might be chilly even in summer), towels, toiletries and anything that will help you to teach English and to entertain yourself. You do not have to bring a sleeping bag, a roll mat or bed sheets.
