Work

Volunteers work with the region's local youth and the festival professional staff (about 200 volunteers) to set up the performance halls, ensure stewardship during the festival, help with the organization, and finally re-arrange the site at the end of the festival. The festival takes place on the weekend, and the volunteers will work for 8 days, having 3 days off at the beginning and at the end of the project.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will sleep in a cottage in Chiny (sleeping bags are needed). Transportation to the workplace is provided by the festival's organization. The Youth House staff is does the shopping. Every day, volunteers will choose and cook their own morning and evening meals. At lunchtime, meals will be prepared and shared with the staff and other festival volunteers. If the volunteers have specific diets (halal, vegetarian), it is important to specify this when registering for the project.

Location and leisure

Chiny is a small town located in Wallonia, in the province of Luxembourg (French-speaking region of Belgium), near the French border (South of Belgium). Various outdoor activities are possible (kayaking on the Semois River, hiking, visiting the Bouillon Castle, and the Abbey of Orval).

Project hosted by

The Chiny Youth Centre aims at the socio-cultural development of its region by offering young people various exchange-related, leisure, and discovery activities. Within this framework, in collaboration with the association “Chiny, Cité des Contes,” the Chiny Youth Centre has been participating for many years in the organization of the Chiny Storytelling Festival. This festival lasts a weekend and is held in the enchanting setting of Chiny village. It offers the public several storytelling performances in French, played by international storytellers (Belgium, Niger, Canada, Italy, Japan). http://www.mjcf.be and http://www.conte.be.

Additional comments

Many SCI camps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover: local hosting costs; International Insurance costs for the volunteer; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; SCI Online Placement System costs.
If you apply through an SCI branch, the fee will be included in your sending branch inscription fee. If you apply through a partner organization, you will pay the fee once you arrive at the project’s location, either directly to the hosting branch or through the different payment platforms. When accepted into the project, the host branch will provide you with all the details about the various payment options.

Work

Needless to say, in order for the Festival to be a life-enhancing and indeed for some a life-transforming experience, much hard work is required. From the day we arrive in an empty field with a small vanguard, our numbers gradually swell until we have around eight hundred volunteers welcoming the three thousand visitors. The set-up crew erect the structures that will act as kitchens and venues. They establish the infrastructure such as plumbing, compost toilets, showers and saunas. They make the site beautiful and safe with flags, bunting, paths, fences and lighting. Then during the Festival we have stewards to welcome and guide festival goers, to manage parking and traffic and to attend to people's well-being. Toilet wizards maintain the compost toilets. A team of recyclers sorts materials so as to minimize landfill. The kitchen crew feed volunteers and festival goers alike. The site crew look after the infrastructure, tents, water etc. During the set-up phase, volunteers will get one day off and during the festival two days either as full days or half days, depending on the needs of the particular teams.

VAP/IVS volunteers will be invited to work in one of a number of areas before and during the festival, for example: the Healing area, the Buddhafield cafe, site crew, recycling and ‘toilet wizards’, décor, welcome and departure teams.

During the Festival the volunteers will have work shifts, but will also have time to enjoy the huge variety of events taking place and facilities available as outlined above. Volunteers are asked to attend daily morning meetings, the exact time depending on what area of work they choose to join. The work is very team-based. The whole enterprise runs on goodwill, awareness of each others’ needs, good communication and mutual support. During set-up and take-down there will be organised events around Buddhist themes, attendance at which is completely voluntary. There are generally also alternatives such as spontaneous musical gatherings, often around a fire. They will also have someone on site who is their direct contact for support and pastoral care. They will meet as a group together each day.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers should bring their own tents, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and everything you would need for a camping trip. Weather can be range from very hot in the sun to very cold at night, so please bring plenty of blankets as well as sun cream, warm-weather clothes and proper waterproof jackets and trousers. Showers and toilet facilities are outdoors and though cleaner and better cared for than other festivals, they are outdoors and basic.

Buddhafield will provide 100% vegan food and hot drinks and snacks are available throughout the day. If you need animal products, you will have to bring with you a supply of food that does not need refrigeration.

Location and leisure

The Buddhafield Festival is held over five days, on a beautiful site in the Blackdown Hills, in Somerset, England.

Project hosted by

BACKGROUND:
Buddhafield (www.buddhafield.com) is an English Buddhist collective that is part of the international Buddhist movement, the Triratna Buddhist Community (http://thebuddhistcentre.com). Buddhafield emerged out of the coming together of Buddhism and ecological awareness in the 1990s. Buddhafield is inspired by the ideal of living and working more simply and kindly in a community informed by awareness of our interconnections with each other and with nature. We run a programme of camping activities in the South West of England and own two beautiful pieces of land, which we are committed to managing sustainably and which we use for several events each year (not the Festival itself). We are perhaps best known for organising the much-loved Buddhafield Festival, now in its 23rd year, and for the Buddhafield Café, which provides vegan food at festivals like the Glastonbury Festival.
-----------------------------------------------------------
THE FESTIVAL:
The Buddhafield Festival is held over five days, on a beautiful site in the Blackdown Hills, in Somerset, England. The event brings together around three thousand people for a sharing and celebration of alternative social, cultural, political and spiritual values. The mix of activities around Buddhist, environmental, healing and social change themes together with general festival attractions such as singing, dance, yoga, drumming, live music, comedy, craftwork, chai cafes, saunas, hot tubs and a huge range of activities for children, attracts a wide range of festival goers. The feedback we get is that for many the event is a reminder that a more positive and kind alternative to conventional competitive and environmentally damaging ways of living is possible. In keeping with the Festival's Buddhist ethos the event is a drug and alcohol-free zone.

Directions to meeting point

TRAVEL TO BUDDHAFIELD:
The Festival site is in remote countryside, with only two buses per day going near the site.
A member of the Buddhafield team will meet people at the Taunton train station and help them get to the site. If you want to travel with a team member it is important that you arrive at Taunton train station not later than 16:45 on July 9th, where we will meet you at the upper exit by platform 2!
-------------------
Train:
The nearest station is Taunton. Journeys take about 2 hours from London or Birmingham, 1 hour from Bristol and 30 minutes from Exeter.
-------------------
Coach (Bus):
Taunton is about 4 hours from London and 1 hour from Bristol. National Express run regular services to Taunton. See www.nationalexpress.com. If you come by coach you will need to allow 15 minutes to walk to the train station exit by platform 2.
--------------------
Local transport:
Once in Taunton, there are two buses per day which can drop you within 10 minutes walk of the Festival site. The bus stops are about 15 minutes walk from Taunton station and five minutes from the coach station.
----------------------
Departure:
The leaving day for International Volunteers will be Thursday 24th July. If you could try and arrange your travel from Taunton after 11am that would enable us to take you to the bus or train station.

Additional comments

HOSTING FEE:
Volunteers placed through VAP will be asked to pay a fee of £90 GBP upon arrival. VAP charges this fee as without it we would be virtually unable to organise any projects in the UK.
Volunteers placed through IVS will not need to pay a hosting fee as they have already contributed through the fee they paid to their sending organisation.
-------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: From 2025 onwards, all foreign national travelling to the UK need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). You cannot enter the UK without it. Please check the following link on how to apply for it: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Work

This "cultural and festival" volunteer camp will support the organization of a Festival of National Tourist Interest, the Festa da Istoria, which highlights the cultural nature of the festival.
In this cultural celebration, history provides an insight into trades that are now in decline or forgotten, such as blacksmiths, carpenters, coopers, stonemasons, basket makers, and a long list of popular artisan traditions that have greatly influenced the economic history of Galicia, not to mention the importance of Ribeiro wine.
The work to be carried out can be classified into two areas:
A) Preparation of the ornamental elements for the "Festa da Istoria" decoration, focusing on the restoration of outdated or deteriorated materials, as well as the expansion of resources as requested.
B) Development of tourist resources to revitalize the town of Ribadavia beyond the "Festa da Istoria." A live role-playing event will be designed, in which the volunteers from the volunteer camp will design a story that they will then act out, interacting directly with local participants who join the activity.

Through collective spaces for reflection and exchange, we explore new perspectives on society. We encourage a society that is more respectful of the environment, more supportive, fairer, feminist, anti-capitalist, inclusive and anti-racist.

We want our values to be embraced by everyone involved, whether they are part of the organising team, festival-goers, artists, external service providers or volunteers.

Work

During the first week, the focus will be on initial training and preparation. In the mor-nings, theatre workshops will be held covering acting techniques such as body expression, voice management, improvisation and character development, as well as dramatised reading and analysis of the texts to be performed. In the afternoons, group dynamics will be organised to strengthen coexistence and time will be allocated to the creation and design of the Festi-val's signage. This period will allow the artistic and organisational foundations of the event to be consolidated, promoting both technical learning and teamwork. In the second week, prio-rity will be given to the celebration of the Jorearte Festival and the performance of the show. The afternoons and evenings will be dedicated to travelling to the different locations for volun-teer activities during the festival. At the same time, in their free time, participants will be able to enjoy guided tours and cultural dynamics, combining stage work with recreational activities that allow them to get to know and enjoy the surroundings. This planning seeks to balance artistic and logistical dedication with the cultural and personal enjoyment of the volunteers. (Calendar in attached document)

Accomodation and food

Accommodation will take place at the Casa García Artists' Residence and at the Casa Felisa Rural House, both located in the town of Santa Eulalia de Gállego and with capacity to ac-commodate 20 people in double, triple or quadruple rooms. Both houses have common dining and living areas. Bathrooms are shared and participants must collaborate in cleaning the common areas of the accommodation. Young people from Spain must bring sleeping bags or sheets and shower and pool towels. Foreign participants will be provided with these utensils, so it will not be necessary for them to bring them. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will take place at Casa García where some of the participants will be accommodated at the following times: breakfast at 8.30am, lunch at 2pm and dinner at 9pm. Food will be healthy and balanced, cooked every day in the kitchen by its catering team. During the day they will be offered a snack. Breakfast will be self-service and will consist of: milk, cocoa, coffee, juice, pastries, biscuits, toast, butter and jam. On days when there are excursions or when there is a very tight schedule outside the residence, the meal may be replaced by a picnic consisting of a sandwich and fruit. This case will be exceptional. It is possible to adapt the menu to suit die-tary needs or options.

Location and leisure

The volunteer camp's complementary activities program offers participants a compre-hensive experience that combines culture, nature, sport and coexistence. Highlighted activi-ties include a guided tour of the town of Ayerbe and an exciting day of kayaking on the Gállego River, where participants will be able to enjoy the natural surroundings while working as a team. In addition, a nature walk will be planned to the town of Murillo de Gállego, a quiet and picturesque environment that combines physical exercise and scenic enjoyment. During breaks, there will be moments of relaxation and recreation in the Ayerbe pool and in the Gállego River, which will serve to combat the heat and strengthen the bonds between volun-teers. To encourage coexistence and mutual knowledge, group dynamics and games de-signed to strengthen group cohesion will be carried out. As a special welcome activity, the camp will begin with an international dinner in which participants will bring non-perishable products representative of their countries or regions. During dinner, you will have the oppor-tunity to share your dishes with others and explain the cultural relevance of your choices, creating an enriching and multicultural environment from day one. This complementary pro-gram seeks to balance technical work with moments of enjoyment, learning and conviviality, making the experience unique and memorable.

The Aplec dels Ports is a day of celebration and revindication that is held annually in the towns of the historic region of Els Ports. (Castelló). It was held for the first time in 1978 and since then it has been repeated annually, with the exception of 2006 and 2020. It is a self-managed festival.

The Aplec gathers several thousand people annually and combines both recreational activities such as concerts or theaters, as well as other more revindicative ones, focused on the defense of the language and culture of the region as well as the demand for improvements in the infrastructures, such as the healthcare system, the roads for the towns of the region... etc . It is common among the editions of the gathering that each one has a slogan that emphasizes the revindicative nature.

Grenzenlos is an Austrian NGO based in Vienna. It is independent of religions and political bodies. Grenzenlos is a non-profit association. Its main purpose is to promote world peace and respect between people through intercultural non-formal education programmes abroad which combine cultural integration with engagement at non-profit initiatives worldwide.

The German word „Grenzenlos” means “no boundaries” and also “no limits”. The word explains the basic mission of Grenzenlos: to promote the personal development of individuals (no limits!) and inter-cultural understanding through international encounters, trainings, inter-cultural living and work experience (no boundaries!).

Grenzenlos offers a variety of international mobility programmes. These programmes are dedicated to world peace through the promotion of intercultural exchanges.

• Traditionally, Grenzenlos organizes volunteering programmes (individual as well as in the frame of international camps).
• As an exchange organization, we send volunteers abroad and host volunteers in Austria
• For people of all generations from 18 to 99 years.
• Including stays from two weeks up to one year
• For skilled as well as for non-skilled people
• Worldwide

The Inclusion approach is a high priority for Grenzenlos: special attention is given to promoting the participation of people with disabilities in all our volunteering projects as well as trainings and educational programmes.

Work

Are you eager to help renovate a beautiful farmhouse while experiencing an unforgettable collective adventure? Join our workcamp for the Grosso Modo music collective and help bring to life this space dedicated to art and culture, in a project combining renovation work and a music festival!
You will work on restoring the farmhouse using traditional, sustainable techniques respectful of old construction. There are many tasks possible, such as applying lime-miscanthus insulating coating, pouring a lime slab, jointing stones, organizing spaces, woodworking workshops, and much more.
During the final week, the association organizes a music festival, a fun and festive moment not to be missed! You will be involved in the festival organization, building small outdoor huts, arranging the courtyard, welcoming the public, etc.
Whether you're a real handy-person or not so much, a music lover, or simply looking for new experiences, your energy and ideas will be welcomed with enthusiasm.

Accomodation and food

You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay.
You will share various collective tasks and cooking duties. Meals will be shared with the members of the collective and any other volunteers present on the farm. Numerous moments of sharing and collective living will shape your days: common meals, game nights, lively discussions, and of course, musical moments to relax and connect!
You will be accommodated in individual tents (provided by Concordia) on a campsite located 10 minutes by foot from the farm. Solar showers and dry toilets are available at the farm, as well as collective living spaces and a room specifically reserved for the workcamp participants. There is no Wi-Fi available, but a washing machine should be installed on-site.
Come experience an alternative way of living, in an environment that allows you to disconnect and revitalize yourself in the heart of nature.

Work

First part (30.07.-06.08.) will be all about the preparation of Windmill festival, which is very rich with content. The volunteers will be helping out to the organizers and the other volunteers in setting everything in its place (stage, fences, cleaning the field) and in decorations, because the festival will start on the 7th. During the festival (07.08.-09.08.), volunteers will help with the tasks (sell the tickets at the entrance, inform the guests, move things, things that need to be moved, keep the space without trash, help the musicians maybe, why not, etc...) for around 4 hours a day. All the rest-enjoying time!

Accomodation and food

The accommodation will be under the tents in the festival zone. Tents will be provided for the volunteers, but if anyone wants extra-comfort, it is completely acceptable to bring your own tent (seriously, haha).

Meals will be prepared together or will be made by the local chef, negotiations are still in progress.

Location and leisure

Orom is relatively small village with almost completely Hungarian population in the Kanjiža municipality, in the North Banat District, Vojvodina province. It is surrounded by natural beauty with landscaped surroundings and friendly hosts. Settlement was founded at the end of the 19th century.

Orom was organized around railway station, important crossroad and the school. Many houses, stores, but also windmills were built gradually. It is agricultural area and many people are having farms with pigs and cows (that are taken care of with soul). Today it is well connected with Subotica (Szabadka), that is important center of that part.

Before the festival-festival, excursion to Subotica or other interesting places in the neighbourhood can be organized.

During the festival, there will be offered plenty of activities where volunteers can take part. Many workshops will be organized, collective reading, photography, potential circus productions, games for kids, cooking lessons, dance, and sometimes rides in the local chariots. As this workcamp will be part of the "European youth in action" project, volunteers in this workcamp will have a chance to learn about climate justice, biodiversity and greenwashing through workshops organized by the youth leaders in the project.

One secret (that is not that anymore) is that there is also a big pool where volunteers can relax in the hot sunny days.
