Tierra Salud is a project located in a large green space of 74 hectares that belongs to the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires. A large part of the land makes up a park in which old shrub and tree specimens live, many of which are unique in the City of Buenos Aires. This place does not have the characteristics of other parks or squares in the city, rather it is somewhat more wild with wide green spaces, where the orchards and lands stand out where the students of the Agronomy and Veterinary Faculties carry out their practices, there are even usually cows and other farm animals in pens. All this makes it a very attractive place to enjoy nature.

Partenaire

Tierra Salud is a social enterprise that is part of the network of social enterprises of the General Directorate of Mental Health of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. It is an organic garden-nursery space that is dedicated to the production of vegetables and native plants, seedlings and fertilizer, with offices in the Inclusion Pole (DGSAM) and in the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Buenos Aires. It is an integral part of Interhuertas and Composting Club. The venture is intended for users of mental health effects, people with disabilities and / or functional diversity, psychosocial vulnerability and is open to volunteering and institutional internships.

Help us build an EcoDome with sustainable materials in the heart of a natural park, designed as a space to rest and share the ancestral knowledge of the Muisca culture.

Logement et nourriture

The accomodation is a nice and cozy house only for the volunteers in the middle of the natural park.
Please bring a sleeping bag.
There is a laundry to wash your clothes.

Volunteers will cook together. This is a perfect space to share recipes and have a culinary cultural exchange. Shopping is organized by the leader(s) and the park, but the volunteers might help. Vegetarian food option also available.
Please do not expect expensive/special ingredients (olive oil, nuts, etc), but the Colombian cuisine is rich in fruits, vegetables and 3x a week there will be meat in the menu.

The water heater depends on the availability of gas. On some occasions, hot showers might not be available, but in general there is hot water available.

Situation, loisirs

You can learn about eco-agriculture and work in the agroecological garden.
During your volunteering you will try some typical dishes from the region and do activities such as walks through the reserve, zip-lining and the KYE MUYSUA, an ancestral experience workshop: Weaving under the tree of dreams in the company of Andean music, meditation and fire.

This natural park is an Andean cloud forest, in the middle of the mountains; therefore it can be cold and rainy, depending on the season of the year. The park is located close to Bogotá (1 hour approx.) where you can find many places to enjoy the Colombian culture.
In case you do not want to leave the park, we have some activities that you can do in your free time such as:
1. Night walks and wildlife watching (there is a guided tour on weekends)
2. Trekking inside and outside the park (e.g. visiting other village on trails)
3. Extreme sport and wellness activities: zip line, tree climbing, music therapy (must be agreed in advance with the areas, the park does not cover the cost of this activity)
4. Horseback riding (must be agreed in advance with the areas, the park does not cover the cost of this activity)

Travail

In general, volunteers will plan and run various activities for kids and the community.

The work includes:
• Plan and carry out English lessons for kids.
• Participate in beach cleaning.
• Clean, organize and prepare an outdoor place, next to the local foundation where there will be community cinema for children.
• Spend time with children, playing, chatting, and being a role model for them.
• Organize environmental workshops for kids.
• Help out at a public kindergarten with manual work (painting, planting trees, etc.).
Our volunteers work around 4 or 5 days a week (5-6 hours daily), depending on the activities.
*Activities may change according to the total number of participants, weather conditions and other external factors.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will stay in shared rooms in a house located just a 10-minute walk from the beach, with views to the sea and the mountain. The house has a spacious kitchen and different common areas like living room, terrace, and a garden. The accommodation has good WiFi connection and provides laundry service once a week.

The workcamp includes 3 meals a day. The camp leader is in charge of the shopping (the volunteers might help) and volunteers cook together. Vegetarian food option also is available.
Please do not expect expensive/special ingredients (olive oil, nuts, etc), but the Colombian cuisine is rich in fruits, vegetables and 3x a week there will be meat in the menu.
There will be a cooking lesson during the workcamp where you can learn how to prepare a typical Colombian food.

Transport to the activities is covered by the local foundation.

Situation, loisirs

During the free time the volunteers can enjoy various exciting activities. You can visit the city's famous beaches like Bahía Concha or Rodadero to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea. Also explore Tayrona National Natural Park and take a hike to one of the beautiful beaches within the park.
