Work

Join us in creating educational content centred around animals and plants, intended for distribution along our visitors' path. Additionally, we will be crafting captivating artwork! Together, we'll design murals, paintings, and handmade creations. Through our efforts, we aim to ignite passion for animal welfare and encourage proactive steps towards their protection.
Our involvement extends to supporting the dedicated caretakers of our bears. Daily tasks such as preparing food and enrichment for bears, as well as maintaining a clean environment, will be part of our hands-on contribution.
Participation in workshops and discussions focusing on animal welfare will broaden your knowledge and deepen your connection with the cause.
We will be working 5-6 hours per day, five days a week.

Accomodation and food

While here, you'll stay in a house 2.5 km near BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina. The house is set up to help everyone feel like part of a group as you all go through this experience together.
To make your meals special, we offer different vegetarian foods and cooking equipment so you can cook together. This makes your stay more enjoyable and gives you chances to share moments at the dinner table.
As you take part in activities at BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina, you can expect a mix of shared spaces during your stay. We want to make sure your time here is not only memorable but also enjoyable and meaningful.

Location and leisure

The camp will be set up in the BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina, located 20 kilometres from Prishtina, near village of Mramor. The land provided by the Municipality of Prishtina covers an area of 16 ha. Around 10 ha have been carefully developed, with well-designed spaces for the bears. Each space comes with important features like pools, dens, fresh water sources, and things to keep the bears engaged. Hidden away from the noise and activity, BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina provides a peaceful escape, which makes it a perfect home for the sanctuary's residents, ensuring they have a calm place to live.

Project hosted by

BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina, established in 2013 by FOUR PAWS International, serves as a safe place for brown bears that were once kept in captivity near restaurants. Within our sanctuary, 20 rescued bears receive care, including appropriate nutrition, veterinary care, enrichment activities, and space for natural behaviours such as roaming, swimming, digging, foraging, and expressing their instincts.
Additionally, we play an important role in animal welfare education, cultivating a bond between individuals and the natural world through impactful outdoor and indoor activities. We are committed to developing and providing an educational program, with a primary focus on animal welfare and environmental preservation.

Requirements

Expected to engage in physical work, acquire new skills, and embrace simple living conditions. While we welcome applicants with prior experience, we equally encourage those without specific expertise to apply. This work camp is designed to accommodate individuals with diverse backgrounds, provided they possess creativity and a shared commitment to safeguarding natural values.

Work

During the first week, the volunteers will take care of the donkeys and ponies and prepare them for the rides with families who visit the place. They will work on the maintenance of the meadows and green spaces, assist the summer camp leaders on different activities: donkey and pony rides, sport, nature activities.
During the second week they will still work in the meadows and green spaces and will also do small repairs, maintenance of the buildings, work in the vegetable garden, take care of the animals of the farm (milking the goats, feeding, cleaning of the enclosures).

Accomodation and food

Accommodation will be in a hostel, in a mixed dormitory (m/f/x) with shared showers. Meals will be prepared by the volunteers with products provided by the farm (fresh, local and seasonal products). There is an outside kitchen available (barbecue, pizza oven...).
Special attention to the consumption of alcohol. It is not forbidden, but if consumed it has to be out of the presence of children. There is a possibility of buying local drinks on site.

Location and leisure

Stoumont is a village in the countryside with access to a bakery, pharmacy, post office and other useful services. During their free time, volunteers can do forest walks, visit natural heritage sites (Ninglinspo valley, Haut Marêt hornbeam, Coo waterfall) and the nearby cities and towns: Spa, Stavelot, Liège.

Project hosted by

“Le Fagotin” is a rural eco-educational center located in the Belgian Ardennes, an animation farm, a vacation center, a tourist accommodation and a nature center all in one.
During the summer, Le Fagotin is in full effervescence. Animal care, accompaniment of children/teenagers courses, follow-up of leisure activities... So many missions to be fulfilled by the volunteers.
