Arbeit

Volunteers are welcomed and live as part of a household where they help with the running of the home they also enjoy. During the work week they join a team on the land, bakery, food preserving kitchen, construction/woodworking, or crafts, facilitating, learning, and helping the team reach their goal. Weekends and evenings are filled with social and vocational opportunities. The type of volunteer work is matched to the individual’s tastes and strengths to optimize the most fulfilling experience for all. The hours vary and follow a farm-life structure with some early mornings and late nights in the growing season and a creative, co operative, and flexible attitude to social opportunities and travel to best suit everyone.
Coworker position requires a motivated person who enjoys being part of a team. Practical idealism, an appreciation of the outdoors, and a wish to make a real difference in the world helps! Previous agricultural experience or experience of people with disabilities is not necessary, but an open mind and a wish to learn definitely is.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers live together family- style in homes lead by long term volunteers in the community. Each person has their own bedroom. All meals, and use of amenities (computer, wifi, toiletries, house phone, workshops) is included. We can insure drivers over 21 with a clean driving record to use our vehicles.

Lage und Freizeit

We live in the middle of a conservation area with hiking and biking trails, waterfalls and a pristine river to canoe and kayak. Our friendly small town offers shopping, coffee shops, parks, community theater, swimming pool, gym, basic amenities, and local festivals. Museums, concerts, theaters and events can be accessed an hour away in Minneapolis/St Paul. While there is no public transport, people over 21 with a clear driving record can often drive our vehicles and those who can’t are offered rides and use of bikes for shorter distances. We make it possible for volunteers to camp, visit Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, (4-7 hours away) and Lake Superior depending on their interest and enjoy connecting them to opportunities see more of the USA in and outside the tourist areas. Year-long volunteers can expect to have about 3 weeks of vacation offered through the year.

MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006. Bernice Home was found by a lady by the name of Bernice. She started this home for senior citizens who need quality home care services to seniors with limited mobility or dementia and hence social interaction. She started this home in 2000 and the second home in 2018. The founder belief ÔÇ£life shouldnÔÇÖt end when you are old, it should be full of happy memories regardless of the age. The founder wants to keep the seniors active and engaged through physical, mental and social activities, all in the comfort of their home. The workcamp was revived in 2023 and 2 STVs from Japan + 1 MTV from Czech did great work, so they have decided to host the workcamp again!

The host is looking for people who like working hard, having fun, and being part of a community to get involved. At Green & Away the host lives in a comfortable outdoor venue as a community of up to 30 volunteers working together to look after the temporary summer home, taking turns to cook meals, and keeping the site running alongside hosting events. The type of activities you will be involved in depends on which phase of Green and Away you join (there are three) and this may involve putting up large marquees, housekeeping of tents or catering large events (there will be more volunteering, these are just examples.)

You will be supported and encouraged to be involved in whatever you feel most comfortable doing, and the host always supports and appreciates new ideas and feedback – Green & Away is a place to share and learn new skills. The host warmly welcomes and encourages individuals of all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, genders, abilities, ages, religions, and orientations to join the Green & Away project.

Events Phase: Throughout the season we welcome different groups for whom we provide the venue and support in the smooth running of their events. Tasks involve welcoming guests and helping them settle in, cooking meals and baking bread and cakes, washing up, running the bar and cafe, cleaning the showers and toilets, chopping wood, and preparing the site for the next group (washing bedding, making beds, looking after the site).
Each event is different, and no day is the same at Green & Away. By working together as a team, we make even the washing up of over 200 plates a fun task, and you will have the opportunity of trying out different jobs and taking on new responsibilities and challenges! Between events, tasks turn to tidying up and working on different improvement projects which can vary over the years.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The host is an outdoor venue and campsite so all accommodation is tented – this is for all volunteers as well as guests will be in tents. Green & Away will provide you with a space in a tent with a camp bed, sleeping bag, pillow and blanket – IT IS STILL COLD AT NIGHT DURING UK SUMMERTIME, PLEASE ENSURE YOU BRING ENOUGH WARM CLOTHES.

All food is provided (3 meals a day, regular tea breaks, with cake!). Meals are vegetarian/vegan, organic, fresh and local when possible. IF you do have any specific dietary requirements, please let the host know in advance.

The site has an outdoor biomass-powered, wood cladded shower cubicles, composting toilets, drinking water taps, clothes washing facilities and a washing line. The host provides eco-friendly toiletries. All safety and volunteering equipment is provided by Green and Away.

Lage und Freizeit

The site is situated close to a small village which has some small activities going on, the site is roughly 5-6 miles from Worcester with a direct bus. Volunteers can travel quite freely to a big city. More immediately the site is located to a café with walking trails and a river for swimming bordering the site. The nearest hospital is 9 miles away. You will get 2 days off of volunteering, days off are not the same each week, but rest will be assured to all volunteers.

The work at Green & Away is what brings us together, but there is also plenty of time for evening activities, revelling in music and laughter in our bar, swimming, playing games and enjoying an evening round the campfire. There is also opportunity for day trips to visit the local area, cultural visits or special days out like canoeing on your days off.
You are also invited to engage with our Education Wednesdays, where we spend an afternoon together learning from one another in a variety of ways through talks, workshops and discussions. If you have a skill or knowledge on a topic you would like to share with the group let us know!

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: This is an ongoing project with several starting dates. In your application, make sure to add which date you would like to start your 2 weeks project. You can apply for several 2-week periods in the same application.

Arbeit

As well as sending volunteers in the UK all over the world to take part in volunteer projects, we host international volunteers and UK volunteers on our national programme. Our UK projects allow both teens and adults to explore the UK whilst making a difference. Each project is created in close partnership with charitable organisations who's first priority, like ours, is to improve the lives of others.

YOU WILL GET TO CHOOSE A PROJECT YOU COORDINATE, YOU WILL NOT COORDINATE THE WHOLE TIME, PROJECTS USUALLY LAST A WEEK - YOU CAN COORDINATE MORE THAN ONE PROJECT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO MORE THAN ONE PROJECT YOU WILL HAVE TO ACCOMMODATE YOURSELF UNTIL THE SECOND PROJECT BEGINS. The types of projects you may be a leader on are:

• Supporting children’s play schemes and summer camps
• Helping to run festivals
• Working with adults and/or children with learning difficulties
• Carrying out environmental work in local parks and nature reserves
• Working at a animal sanctuary
• Supporting educational community farms
• Caring for the elderly

As a UK Coordinator, you will immerse yourself into the project and ensure the international volunteers joining the project will have a rewarding project.
ROLE OBJECTIVES
On most of our UK projects we need one or two experienced group coordinators to represent Concordia and help the project run smoothly. The coordinators act as a link between the host organisation, the international volunteers and Concordia. The Coordinators work alongside the volunteers and help the group to organise their day to day living and free time. They also manage a budget for food and social activities, to make sure the everyone gets their fair share of work and fun.

Most projects involve volunteers aged 18+, however coordinators could also lead groups of international volunteers aged 16-17 (teen projects).

• Ensure their safety
• Coordinate volunteering programme (with host) and leisure activities with the group
• Report any safeguarding concerns
• Support and run sessions, give feedback and create positive environments for young people

Coordinators are not responsible for the initial planning and organisation of the project as this is the responsibility of the host organisation prior to the project start.

DUTIES OF THE ROLE

To be part of an exciting programme that has tangible results for the young people involved. This role is demanding and fast-paced but highly rewarding.

Main duties:
• You will need to lead, inspire, and support a team of international volunteers
• Ensure programme content is delivered and understood by the group, acting as a facilitator for your team’s volunteering project
• Lead by example and get involved in leisure and volunteering activities, keeping the team motivated at all times

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

All projects vary in accommodation depending on which project you choose to coordinate. These will vary from University Accommodation to camping.
All international leaders will receive all meals free throughout the duration of the project. If you do more than one project, you will only receive food while on a Concordia project.

Lage und Freizeit

The location will vary dependant on the types of project that you choose to do, Concordia can give you more information once you have chosen a project.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

All our projects are impactful - whether they are just up the road from us or on the other side of the world. We do this by working with local communities delivering programmes that respond to local needs.

Concordia was founded in 1943 to recruit volunteer labour to encourage peace and reconciliation in the aftermath of the Second World War. Since then, Concordia has supported around three-quarters of a million people to undertake incredible programmes that support local communities all over the world.

Arbeit

No experience is necessary as new volunteers are teamed up with experienced volunteers for hands on learning. International volunteers of age 18 or older are welcome, including volunteers with disabilities. Volunteer opportunities range from field excavations to laboratory processing of artifacts. This year we will be investigating the Bockmier pre-contact site, dated between 1200-1250 AD. This appears to be an Ancestral Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) village but also contains components from other time periods. The project is an archaeological field school where volunteers will learn site layout, excavation techniques, soil sampling, plan and profile mapping and processing artifacts (projectile points, pottery, tools etc.).

The workday is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The work is done in a friendly and supportive environment. Please understand that this can involve hard physical labor, including digging with a trowel or shovel, screening soil and carrying buckets of dirt. Lab work may involve detailed work with the hands. Each person will work at their own pace according to their physical condition.

The temperature can be quite hot or cool and rainy. BRING work gloves, work shoes and clothing, including a warm coat or sweatshirt, sun hat, rain coat, long sleeve shirts and pants as there will be mosquitoes. The work site can be dirty and muddy so multiple sets of work clothes are a good idea. Sunscreen and bug spray will be provided.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

American and international volunteers will stay in apartments, which are a short drive away from the dig site. Separate rooms will be available for female and male volunteers. BRING sleeping bag or your own bedding. All food and meals will be provided for volunteers. We will cook meals together or eat out at local restaurants. Vegetarian options will be available.

Be sure to tell the other volunteers and the co-leader if you have any special diet needs.

Lage und Freizeit

Volunteers will attend local cultural events, and the Seneca-Iroquois National Musem. This is an opportunity to take an in depth look at Native American culture from the perspective of a tribal entity. Ample time is provided for trips to local parks and points of interest. The local university has an art museum and a library with rare manuscripts from Medieval Europe.

There will be many opportunities to enjoy beauty and nature and there will be formal and informal discussions about topics of interest to the group. Bring music, games or other activities to share.

PROJECT: Over the past fourteen years, the World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) initiative has grown enormously due to the growing interest and appreciation for the protection and preservation of World Heritage sites. For the first time, an international volunteer camp will be held at the Ex-Convent of San Miguel Arcángel, located in the municipality of Huejotzingo. The former convent is a Franciscan construction, considered the first “convent-fortress temple” built in New Spain, and was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Huejotzingo will receive national and international volunteers to carry out awareness-raising activities about the importance of preserving local cultural heritage, supporting the preservation of the 16th century ex-convent on the slopes of Popocatépetl. Taevaskoja Youth Camp is adventurous hiking camp that has been active for 30 years. The aim of Taevaskoja camp is to support children s development through non-formal education. During the youth camp kids participate in different workshops about health, safety, culture and enjoy climbing and hiking activities. Taevaskoja is located in South-Estonia, about 230 km from Tallinn. The camp site is very close to the one of the most popular natural touristic place - Suur Taevaskoda (The Large Heaven s Hall), surrounded by beautiful forest and close to the one of the longest rivers in Estonia. Such location brings children closer to unspoiled nature and gives them an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with Estonian national heritage richly presented in the area. The camp aims also to develop children s knowledges about different cultures and support the growth of tolerance. To do that Taevaskoja Youth Camp invites international volunteers to join the camp as animators. Children come to Taevaskoja camp from all over Estonia. Most of them have basic knowledge of English and are very happy to have a chance to practice it. The largest portion of the township belongs to the Picos de Europa Regional Park, where the largest number of Vadinian tombstones have been found (eleven in total). Some authors believe that Vadinia, an important Celtic city frequently mentioned by historians and geographers during the Cantabrian-Roman wars, may have been located here. La Corona, a hilltop next to the village, indicates a possible settlement of Roman origin.

The village has several hiking trails leading to neighbouring municipalities of great scenic value. Also of note is the Sabinar de Crémenes, one of the most westerly in Europe. Other mountain activities such as canoeing, cycling, hunting and fishing are also available in the area. In recent years, some special spots have been set up for observing and photographing wild animals.

Crémenes is a destination that promises total immersion in the culture, history and nature of the mountains of León. Located in a privileged setting, this municipality offers a perfect combination of heritage, breathtaking landscapes and traditions that have endured for centuries. If you are looking for an escape from routine and direct contact with nature and history, Crémenes is undoubtedly the ideal place.

Arbeit

At the end of the season the entire site is deconstructed and packed away for the winter. Like setup, this involves a lot of manual labour and hard work but is a time when the team really comes together as we work to leave the field as we found it at the beginning of the summer.
We make sure that all structures are cleaned, dried and packed away. You’ll have the chance to see the behind the scenes of outdoor living and event infrastructure and take part in plenty of problem solving and logistics tasks. While the work can be quite physical, we find that because we are not hosting events anymore, we have more time for team activities such as fancy banquet dinners, dress-up parties or relaxing campfire evenings.
If it is something you want to have a go at, then takedown may be the phase for you! Please note that as we take structures down the facilities on the field will become more minimal (toilets and showers will be available till the end).

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Green & Away is a registered educational charity, who organise, build and run a unique, tented sustainable venue – a temporary outdoor eco-village, situated on the banks of the River Teme, in lush Countryside overlooked by the Malvern Hulls in the West of England.

Every summer since 1990, many volunteers from all different walks of life and all over the world have come together to create a beautiful space for events, connection to the outdoors, community and learning – and we are very excited to welcome you!

This is an ongoing project with several starting dates. In your application, make sure to add which date you would like to start your 2 weeks project. You can apply for several 2-week periods in the same application.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

A travel guide will be sent to the volunteer nearer the time

Weitere Infos

For Green and Away it is really important the volunteer understands what we are about (environmental charity, not a music festival! etc.) and the circumstances of the facilities (outdoor showers, camping). Green & Away need volunteers to have a good level of English (B2) which is integral to the safety of themselves and everyone they are working with. A pre-approval interview over the phone will be organised with the host after applications.

Anforderungen

The host will reach out to you to establish levels of English, you will receive an email if successful. A conversational level of B2 is necessary to understand safety instructions.

Alliksaare Farm s main direction is horse breeding. At the moment there are around 150 horses on the farm. The work is diverse: it is to take care and maintain the pastures located by the sea - clearing around the pastures, building or removing fences, repairing fences, cleaning the stable. Another work is cleaning the coast nearby the farm from rubbish brought by storms. There can be some work for preparing food for horses for a winter time. But the most important work is with horses directly - taking care of them and to train horses. We have horses of any age, but mostly young horses, so depending on your experience and willingness to learn, it is possible to learn how to take care and train horses of all ages. For example socializing and training foals, halter train yearlings and saddle and/or carriage train young horses. The work will be mainly outdoors. Working time is 6-7 hours a day. Work will be done under some supervision and guidance of the local host but also quite a lot independently.

There is a kitchen with all necessary equipment for cooking. Ingredients for food will be provided, but you need to cook by yourselves. In spring and autumn you can enjoy birds watching as their migration route goes over island. This camp is perfect for people who enjoy being close to the nature and are interested in traditional way of rural living.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Hiiumaa, according to the Nordic sagas, emerged from the Baltic Sea as a small islet more than 10 000 years ago. The island of Hiiumaa was first mentioned in historical documents as a deserted island called Dageida in 1228. The first inhabitants settled down at the end of the 13th century. Nowadays, Hiiumaa is the second biggest island of Estonia with an area of 965 sq. km and a population of around 9 000. It has many historical and nature sights, and there are kind people known for their hospitality and good sense of humor. The island is referred to as a remote area of Europe, and EstYES feels particularly proud developing international voluntary projects for over twenty years there. EstYES has been cooperating with eco-farms all over Estonia for solidarity and practical support to local people who work in the agricultural sector keeping traditional lifestyle and developing new eco-farming despite all difficulties. Alliksaare Farm on Hiiumaa Island is one of such projects. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people. Alliksaare Farm breeds an endangered breed of horses called Estonian Native horses. Alliksaare Farm also has an important task taking care of coastal meadows which are international birds migration area under protection of NATURA Program.Video of past camp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEAc2Sch6f8

Arbeit

This camp will take place for the first time this year. You will be working in the middle of the Black Forest (at the gates of the national park of the same name) and support the foresters and their trainees in their work.

There are three main tasks for you:
• Mowing protected mountain meadows: To protect the nature here, driving with machines is not permitted on these meadows (machines would cause soil compaction), so manual labour is required. You will be mowing by hand.
• Maintaining capercaillie habitats: The capercaillie is the largest chicken bird in Europe and is threatened with extinction in Germany. You will be removing wood and cutting branches, as the birds need passageways.
• Forest maintenance: You will be removing branches from trees (with or without a ladder).

The work will be led by a professional instructor, so no previous experience is needed. You will work around 30 hours per week, between 8am to 4pm from Monday to Friday (with a lunchbreak of course). The work place is not far from your accommodation, so you will walk there every morning.

The camp is perfect for you if you love nature, since you will be working outside all day. What's more, the place is remote, so you can spend a lot of time with the others or on your own at the barbecue area or in the forest, meadows or hiking trails around the building. In short; the perfect project if you need a break from everyday life.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation is on the first floor in the base building of the forest district. The building is called “Kriesenhof” and the forest district is called “Allerheiligen”. It is basic but has all facilities needed, such as a kitchen, a shower, a bathroom, even WIFI and a washing machine. You will sleep on mattresses, in one shared room. Please bring a sleeping bag (and a pillow if you want one) with you!

All volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat consumption and try more sustainable dishes.

Lage und Freizeit

The "Allerheiligen" forest district is located in south-west Germany, approx. 30 km from the French border as the crow flies. You will live and work in the middle of nature, in the direct neighbourhood of the Black Forest National Park.

There are many hiking opportunities, some of which start directly from the accommodation (Karlsruher Grat, Allerheiligen waterfalls, the national park).

Easily accessible by car: Mummelsee, Baden-Baden, Strasbourg, Freudenstadt, summer toboggan runs etc.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Please arrange your travel in a way that you arrive in the afternoon or early evening to the train station of Ottenhöfen. Please check for connections from anywhere in Germany or Switzerland to Ottenhöfen on www.bahn.com/en

Weitere Infos

This is a special project for nature lovers and people interested in nature protection work. Sturdy work shoes and clothing as well as sun and rain protection are required. As the area is quite remote, the number of excursions will be limited.

Please be aware that ticks can be an issue when you spend a lot of time outdoors in natural areas in Germany -like in this camp. In our General Infosheet you will find suggestions on how you can protect yourself against them. You are also welcome to check whether a vaccination against the tick-borne disease TBE makes sense and is possible in your home countrsturdy working shoes and clothes, as well as sun and rain protection

Take part in the rehabilitation of an old mill, in the charming town of Isle, in the heart of the forest!
You will continue to restore the mill area, clearing weeds, consolidating and solidifying the walls and rebuilding its destroyed parts. The area you will work on corresponds to the junction zone between the stream and the waterwheel mechanism. You will be supervised by a technical leader who will teach you different traditional methods.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated in individual tents, with sanitary facilities, a kitchen and a communal living room where you will enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. You will share the various collective tasks (cleaning, activities, etc.) and prepare meals together.

A budget will be allocated to the leaders, and you will help with the shopping and meal preparation, giving priority to healthy, local products. Our aim is to encourage vegetarian eating using local, seasonal produce, while respecting participants' diets and discovering local cuisine together. WIFI is available. The laundry will be done by hand.

Lage und Freizeit

Isle is a French town located in the department of Haute-Vienne in the New Aquitaine region, bordering the town of Limoges, famous for its porcelain, but rich in history and heritage.
The commune benefits from an exceptional living environment where nature is omnipresent.

In the town centre, flowery gardens, green spaces and leisure facilities are to be discovered alongside local shops and services. Just a few minutes walk away, Isle has a rural protected area shaped by the two valleys of the Vienne and Aurence rivers. Throughout the woods, meadows and fields, there are the several castles and manor houses that together make up the town, with an urban dynamism offered by the town of Limoges, only 5 minutes away.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The municipality of Isle plans to restore an old mill and its miller house in the forest located close to town. To do so, several volunteering works will be undertaken: the construction of a shelter for hunters, an educational room for the leisure centre, a hiking trail and the reactivation of the mill.

Through this project, you will participate in this restoration and you will discover and share a human and cultural experience with the inhabitants of the town. You will also be near the French capital of porcelain, Limoges.
