Arbeit

Volunteers are welcomed and live as part of a household where they help with the running of the home they also enjoy. During the work week they join a team on the land, bakery, food preserving kitchen, construction/woodworking, or crafts, facilitating, learning, and helping the team reach their goal. Weekends and evenings are filled with social and vocational opportunities. The type of volunteer work is matched to the individual’s tastes and strengths to optimize the most fulfilling experience for all. The hours vary and follow a farm-life structure with some early mornings and late nights in the growing season and a creative, co operative, and flexible attitude to social opportunities and travel to best suit everyone.
Coworker position requires a motivated person who enjoys being part of a team. Practical idealism, an appreciation of the outdoors, and a wish to make a real difference in the world helps! Previous agricultural experience or experience of people with disabilities is not necessary, but an open mind and a wish to learn definitely is.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers live together family- style in homes lead by long term volunteers in the community. Each person has their own bedroom. All meals, and use of amenities (computer, wifi, toiletries, house phone, workshops) is included. We can insure drivers over 21 with a clean driving record to use our vehicles.

Lage und Freizeit

We live in the middle of a conservation area with hiking and biking trails, waterfalls and a pristine river to canoe and kayak. Our friendly small town offers shopping, coffee shops, parks, community theater, swimming pool, gym, basic amenities, and local festivals. Museums, concerts, theaters and events can be accessed an hour away in Minneapolis/St Paul. While there is no public transport, people over 21 with a clear driving record can often drive our vehicles and those who can’t are offered rides and use of bikes for shorter distances. We make it possible for volunteers to camp, visit Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, (4-7 hours away) and Lake Superior depending on their interest and enjoy connecting them to opportunities see more of the USA in and outside the tourist areas. Year-long volunteers can expect to have about 3 weeks of vacation offered through the year.

Estonian people have lived in these lands since ancient times and ancient Estonians were known as a wise and mysterious people. They have been described as a nation of witches and sorcerers, and for good reason. While later periods of Estonian history can be learned about in a number of places across the country, the Viking Age (8th to 11th century) in our lands has not received much attention. The Viking Village is the result of one man s long-lived dream and the boldness and initiative of young enthusiasts. It all started in 2005, when the current chieftains of the Viking Village discovered an ancient and mysterious location on the scenic bank of the Pirita River, which could not have been a better place to build an ancient Estonian Viking village. The mission of the Viking Village is to give people a sense of what ancient life was like and to provide a place to relax and learn to know themselves as well as their environment. It is a place where you can take a break from fast-paced modern life and discover the Viking within yourself. The Viking Village is constantly being expanded and improved. Today, we have completed roughly half of the planned village, which means that there is at least as much to come More information: www.viikingitekyla.ee

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with the local group since 2019. This village has been welcoming ohenro (pilgrims) who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting Kakurin-ji temple; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven't been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for omotenashi (hospitality). Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

Through engaging activities such as storytelling from around the world, language exchange programs, multicultural craft workshops, and cultural cooking classes, children have the opportunity to explore different cultures in a hands-on and interactive way. The volunteers also facilitate activities like pen pal programs, geography challenges, and community service projects with an international focus, encouraging children to develop communication skills, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship.
By participating in this program, children not only gain knowledge about different cultures but also learn to appreciate and respect cultural diversity. Our volunteers are dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and connect with the wider world, fostering a sense of curiosity, openness, and respect for others.

Arbeit

Help improve the health and lifespan of trees and contribute to increasing biodiversity!

You will work with the other volunteers on an extensively used orchard with over 100 different fruit trees. These fruit orchards have been characteristic of the German landscape for centuries and are still used today for both fruit (apples and pears) and hay.

Your task will be to cut the branches of the fruit trees. You will receive a detailed introduction on how to do it. You will be equipped with tools and climb ladders to reach the uppermost parts of the tree. There will probably be still a few fruits hanging on the trees, so your task would be to harvest these first.

These tasks are super important as trimming the trees increases their lifespan. And old trees are a perfect space to live for various animals. In general, orchard meadows play an outstanding role for biodiversity in Central Europe and are important for the future. They are among the most species-rich habitats in Central Europe.

You will work five days per week, two days off.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

If you want to be active in increasing biodiversity, love nature and enjoy simple accommodation, almost like a kind of survival camp, then this camp is perfect for you!

You will sleep on a youth campsite about 50 metres from the orchard (run by the local forestry administration). This might be an outdoor adventure, because in October the weather is usually already very autumnal in Germany, which means it can rain, the temperatures might drop quite low at night and the hours of sunshine become fewer.

There are showers and toilets in a house next to the campsite, as well as a barn where you can set up a lounge to spend free time. If it pours with rain, you can also spend the night here if necessary. There is an outdoor gas cooker for cooking. You don't need to bring a tent, but you do need a warm sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, warm, weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes.

Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

Lage und Freizeit

The Workcamp takes place approx. 10 km from the town Schwäbisch Hall. The landscape in this area is very beautiful: It is dominated by forests and steep hills. Only small hamlets interrupt the nature, which makes it a perfect region for plenty of different species but also for hiking.

At your accommodation, there is a barbecue area, several hiking trails, a special cultural landscape trail and a swimming lake (if it's still warm enough) that can be reached on a short hike. You can also reach a lot by bus: There is a brewery that can be visited; the old town of Schwäbisch Hall has museums, shops and some traditional German historical buildings.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This Workcamp is based on the cooperation between IBG and the nature park „Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald“ including the local forestry administration.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Your camp leaders will meet you at the bus stop „Baierbach Abzw., Michelfeld“ on arrival day. Check for connections from anywhere to „Baierbach Abzw., Michelfeld“ on: www.bahn.com/en

Weitere Infos

This project is really for adventurers and nature lovers who want to try out living in nature and with nature even in German autumn. You will be outside a lot, there will be campfires, improvised cooking, hikes and special nature experiences.

Please be aware that ticks can be an issue when you spend a lot of time outdoors in natural areas in Germany - like in this camp. In our General Infosheet you will find suggestions on how you can protect yourself against them. You are also welcome to check whether a vaccination against the tick-borne disease TBE makes sense and is possible in your home country.

Anforderungen

Please be prepared and know that October can either be warm and sunny or quite fresh and rainy in southern Germany. Bring a warm sleeping bag (and a pillow if you want one), a sleeping mat, warm, weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes.

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing. Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.
During this camp, the Imagine Peace Tower, located on Viðey Island, will be lit and illuminate the night sky of Reykjavík. The tower is a memorial to John Lennon by his wife, Yoko Ono, and it is lit every year from October 9 to December 8.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs, then this project is for you!
While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a geothermal power plant, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an outdoor Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, as well as availability or restrictions of our partner organisations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The Meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on September 29 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Arbeit

After helping with the setting up of the stage earlier this year, the Naturtheater Heidenheim needs your help again. This time, the tasks will be a bit different: you will help to dismantle the stage and decorations for a well-deserved rest after the end of the theatrical season. More information about the activities will follow soon, but among them, you can expect:

• Renewing the cover of the small wooden shelf storage.
• Restoring the seats in the garden.
• Cleaning stones around the cold storage with a pressure washer, possibly renewing or filling with gravel.
• Painting walls and repairing cracks in the pavilion.
• And some other tasks as needed! Be sure to be always prepared to lend a helping hand.
There will be a professional work instructor to assist you with all tasks. It will be helpful if you have some experience in manual or construction work and have used tools like cordless screwdrivers before.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated directly on the project site. Next to the stage, there is a huge building for administration, a workshop, and a café. Here you will have one big room for yourselves, showers, and a kitchen. Please note that there is only one big room for sleeping available to all volunteers – no separation is possible! Regarding food, you will be asked to cook for yourselves and carry out all related activities (grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning after yourselves).

Lage und Freizeit

Heidenheim an der Brenz is a town with a bit less than 50,000 inhabitants in the southern region of Baden-Württemberg. The area is rather rural, with beautiful countryside: since it is at the end of the Swabian Alps – a mountain range of about 220km – there are many hills and forests. In the town, you will also find Hellenstein Castle, first built in the 12th century, and a wildlife park with around 100 animals, very close to your project. If you would like to visit a larger town, you may go to Ulm, which is only 30km away. Stuttgart and Munich are just about two hours by train.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Your host will be the Open-Air Theatre Heidenheim, the second-largest of its kind in Southern Germany. It is situated on the “castle hill” of the town of Heidenheim an der Brenz, surrounded by forests, and can accommodate up to 1,100 spectators. The Open-Air Theatre is run by a non-profit association, and they are very excited about hosting a group of international volunteers again. This project is perfect for anyone who is interested in theatre and wants to look behind the scenes! Check out the Theatre here: www.naturtheater.de.

The association was first founded by Gustav Müller over 100 years ago, after the First World War, in his quest to dedicate his life to something that would unite people: art. In 1919, Müller not only realized this idea but also managed to host several productions at the concert hall. Nowadays, with over 500 members of all ages, the Naturtheater Heidenheim association is one of the most popular organizations in the city of Heidenheim and its surrounding area.

Arbeit

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
In this project SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting (Northern Lights) workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. This will take place during late evening and possibly into the night. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Lage und Freizeit

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

Arbeit

As part of this project, you'll be helping to enhance a green space at the heart of the local recreation area. To do this, you'll create small street furniture using ecological and sustainable materials.
Under the watchful eye of the technical supervisor, you'll build and decorate benches, chairs, tables and other elements that will make this area a place where young people from the Golfech teen club can relax and meet.
Over the two weeks, you'll have the chance to talk to these local young people, who will be taking part in the project from time to time, and who will be working with other local residents to help you discover the area.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be lodged in a dormitory in a community hall in the immediate vicinity of
the work site. Mattresses will be provided, so all you need to bring is your sleeping bag. A shower and toilet are on site, and a kitchen and living area will be available nearby. There will be no washing machine available.
Every day, a team of volunteers will cook meals for the whole group, according to menus chosen collectively by you. Particular attention will be paid to seasonal and local produce. Special dietary requirements can be discussed with the group leaders.

Lage und Freizeit

Golfech is 20km south of Agen and 90km north of Toulouse.

Leisure activities: On the edge of the Tarn-et-Garonne region, you'll be able to take advantage of all the region has to offer: swimming, visits to medieval villages (Lauzerte, Aurillac, etc.), hiking, etc. Accompanied by two educational animators, you'll meet the locals and share this experience with them!
In the evenings and at weekends, let your imagination run wild and organize a barbecue, a karaoke night, a folk ball, etc. Finally, you can organize a large international meal, open to all, to share your cultural specialities with locals and visitors.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Since 2002, the Citrus association has been organizing international workcamps in the Tarn-et-Garonne region. Every year, dozens of volunteers from all over the world take part in a public-interest work camp in the heart of a village.
This year, volunteers from all over the world will be coming to Golfech to take part in a collective project of public interest, bringing Solidarités Jeunesses' values of sharing, meeting and interculturality to life!

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

From the airport, there are shuttle buses that will take you to the station in the city in 30 minutes. You can take the train to one of the stations closest to the site. The animators will pick you up
