SummaryWe are working to better the conditions of the Sinegal village community in the Kavre district, near Banepa. We re assisting in the development of effective agricultural methods. We will be developing environmental awareness and community forestry. We are working together with the local community to build a community house that can be used for various activities or for shelter in case of emergency. Background The Sinegal village is located in the Kavre district, at an altitude of 1800 m, about 30 km east of Kathmandu. Our activities take place around Banepa, a town just an hour bus ride away from Kathmandu. Nature is all around and the air here is far better than in the bustling capital. Banepa offers amenities like restaurants with Wi-Fi, pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. After the earthquake, a lot of buildings were destroyed. The local population needs help in the rebuilding of the village.

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches.
Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking during the cleanups. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned activities.

The protection of the environment is a major challenge today. The solid waste management should be an urgent action to protect the environment. Solid waste is a by-product of human activities, which tends to increase with rapid urbanization, improved living standard and changing consumption patterns. Management of increasing amount of solid waste has become a major challenge in many communities in Nepal. If solid waste is properly used it can be a valuable resource, but if it is not effectively managed, it can result in serious adverse impact on environment and public health. The problems associated with the disposal of waste in public places in VIN s working communities, including schools, are numerous and they include littering of food remains and other waste materials. There is a potential health risks associated with the poor management of solid waste .Children are particularly susceptible to respiratory problems caused by dust from dumping sites and also to diarrhoea ,skin disease and eye infection amongst other diseases. Non-biodegradable waste (NBW) is common in communities that are urbanised or within the vicinity of an urbanised environment. Nepal has a huge challenge of NBW visible to the naked-eye. This NBW phenomenon is a much larger issue in rural communities such as Kavresthali and Okharpauwa community located beyond the outskirts of Kathmandu. Preventing the build-up of NBW in communities becomes top priority as diseases derived from NBW increases the prevalence of disease related to sanitation and consumable products. Furthermore, NBW causes degradation to the land. The majority of farmers use to grow local products to feed their households and farm-stock. This project is designed to generate a change in the community with a theme of Better Environment i Better Tomorrow .

If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!

Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, as well as availability or restrictions of our partner organisations.

Active for climate protection and biodiversity – save the peatlands in the Hunsrück area!

You will actively contribute to protecting a special peatland called “Weyrichsbruch”. This area was drained more than 150 years ago for forestry use. Peatlands are a valuable and natural Co2 storage as well as an ecological habitat with a high and very specialized biodiversity. For these reasons, in the 1980s it was decided to revitalize a small part of the Weyrichsbruch. Now the regional authorities for nature protection want to revitalise a much bigger part and this is where you can help! Under the supervision of two experienced Park Rangers you will improve the water balance in this peatland in order to renature the bog, and help it to cope better with the consequences of climate change. Some of your tasks will be to undo the drainage of the area by blocking or filling ditches, or by building small wooden barriers. While working, you will be able to discover many rare species which have already returned. The park Rangers will be happy to explain to you the ecological background and the consequences of climate change and they will guide you to discover this special habitat and its species.
The Weyrichsbruch is bordering a well-known hiking trail. On that trail, it is possible to take a look inside the bog from a wooden plank path. In addition, various information boards have been placed around the area to convey the ecological background of the Weyrichsbruch and thus contribute to environmental education.
Attention: The work might be physically hard, the wheelbarrow becomes your daily companion and you will get wet and muddy for sure! Please bring hiking boots, rubber boots and suitable working clothes.

You will stay in the Educational Centre in Kell am See, which is an important place for youth work in the whole area around the city of Trier. This public and non-profit centre offers the opportunity for youth groups, associations and schools to spend some days or weeks here running a seminar or other projects.
You will stay in five wooden tepees for max. five persons each. Staying here, among pure nature and with the campfire in the middle of the tepees’ circle is a wonderful experience. You will sleep on mattresses inside the tepees. Close to the tepees, you will have access to your own kitchen including a dish-washer, to a living room and sanitary facilities, all inside the Educational Centre. In your free time you can use the different outdoor facilities of the centre like the campfire and the basketball, football and volleyball fields. Close to the centre, there is also a lake and hiking trails. Please be aware that the tepees have electricity but no heating, so it might be cold at night. The facilities in the centre (kitchen, living room and sanitary facilities) can be heated though.
Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

Beliggenhed og fritid

The workcamp will take place in Kell am See, a village 30 km from Trier, not far from the border with Luxemburg. The landscape in this area is very beautiful! It is dominated by huge forests, steep hills, small brooks and ponds, rocks and marshes. Only small hamlets interrupt the nature, which makes it a perfect region for plenty of different species but also for hiking. You will really feel different here!
The area is well known for cycling, walking and other kinds of outdoor activities. There is a local holiday resort nearby the Education Centre, which offers more than 200 holiday bungalows next to a lake and locals love to come here for cycling (there is a 45 km cycling path on a former railway roadbed) or to spend a nice day outside. The region also offers plenty of historic sites (castles, museums….). In addition, you will have the opportunity to come in contact with local associations, e.g. the local voluntary fire brigade. Since there aren’t many public transportation means available around Kell am See, the number of excursions will be limited. However, you will have the chance to visit the city of Trier with its famous Roman sites, the cathedral and birth place of Karl-Marx

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:
1. A day trip to the Hot River area, combined with a cleanup or work with an environmental project in the area, or
2. A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!
While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a geothermal power plant, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an outdoor Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, as well as availability or restrictions of our partner organisations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

The accommodation is located 1 hour drive south-east from Reykjavík. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre where visitors can have a look at an extensive stone and stuffed animal collection. The house sits under Ingólfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingólfur, with a view to Eyjafjallajökull where the volcanic eruptions started in March and April 2010.
The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found spread around the area, which is a popular attraction among foreign and local visitors.
The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafés and bars.

In Tanzania, as in any other countries around the world, the topic of sustainable living has become a hot discussion. However, many people may have heard about sustainable living but are not sure exactly what it means. Lack of knowledge and exposure have significantly increased lifestyles that cause more environmental and health damage for future generations to deal with. Sustainable living applies to almost every part of daily life hence there is an importance to be addressed.

In responding to the issue of sustainable living; the Eco Village (host of this work camp) was established. The Eco-Village initiative is a community designed to address challenges to attain sustainable development. Village members are united by shared ecological, socioeconomic and cultural spiritual values and the village is characterized by efficient energy use, enhanced recreational values, encouraging biogas and local food production, sustainable reliance on local resources and investing on environmental conservation. The overall goal is to build an ecologically balanced society.
