Arbejde

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local
environmental issues, as well as photography.
If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs, making videos or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!
While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a geothermal power plant, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an outdoor Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, as well as availability or restrictions of our partner organisations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city.
At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.
SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
In this project SEEDS will organise a night photography (Northern Lights) workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. This will take place during late evening and possibly into the night. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Kost og logi

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen,
showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

The type of work to expect during the workcamp is mainly focused on sustainability and decarbonization, this camp will have a big study part at the same time that it will be combined with phisical more workcamp likely activities, the sessions in project will be tackling sustainability and the work done in site will directly benefit Can Xammar (The local space that will host the volunteers of this camp)
The type of work will MAINLY be focusing in the study theme but at the same time there will be some physical activities related to the restoring and maintenance of the house (Repairing, painting etc)
We will also have contact with the local community of Ametlla del Vallés.

Kost og logi

The accomodation will be in tents, but if the weather changes drastically we will try to manage the accomodation to be indoors in a shared space inside the house of Can Xammar. The house hosts groups of children in open activities and recreational and study activities for youngsters so if there are not many groups of them staying we could manage to change the accomodation indoors.

To be noted, Can Xammar house hosts groups of kids (esplais) during the year as well as activities from other local organizations and asotiations so there will be shared spaces with the hosts.

SEEDS volunteers will take on a variety of activities, depending on weather conditions and the needs of our partners including working in the forestry section and vegetable greenhouses in the EcoVillage, as well as participating in a nationwide project to raise awareness of ocean pollution, plastic waste, and engage the group in hands-on cleanup efforts in the area, allowing volunteers to make a direct impact!
The camp is based at Alviðra, which offers a range of activities to connect people with nature, such as community gardens, wildlife workshops, school programs, and hikes. As part of the camp, volunteers help maintain the center through tasks like gardening, renovating the house and other projects such as removing old fences to protect wildlife, marking walking paths, and potentially do forestry work like trimming or planting trees.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should be prepared to share environmental issues from their home countries and be ready to spend time outdoors. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

Kost og logi

SEEDS volunteers stay in an old farm which has been transformed into an environmental education centre. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. Volunteers sleep in shared rooms, with up to 6 people per room. Please bring your own sleeping bag and towel.

Beliggenhed og fritid

The accommodation is located an hour drive south-east from Reykjavík. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre and sits under Ingólfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingólfur, with a view of Eyjafjallajökull where the volcanic eruptions began in March and April 2010.
The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found throughout the area, which is a popular attraction among both foreign and local visitors.
The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away, with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafés and bars.

Arrangeret af

This camp is part of SEEDS' ongoing efforts to raise awareness, promote engagement in environmental issues and to support sustainability, organic and permaculture farming, social inclusion, education and hands-on actions in the field. Volunteers will gain insights into local and global challenges through non-formal educational activities such as hands-on work, visits, discussions, and workshops.
SEEDS volunteers have the opportunity to participate in different projects in collaboration with Landvernd (the Icelandic Environmental Organization), the EcoVillage at Sólheimar, the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, Umhverfisstofnun (the Icelandic Environmental Agency) and Blái Herinn (the Blue Army).

Volunteers at TFC contribute significantly to protecting the environment and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

1. Mangrove Reforestation
Assist in planting and maintaining mangrove forests to restore vital ecosystems, combat coastal erosion, and create habitats for marine life such as crabs, shrimp, and fish. Volunteers also help manage mangrove nurseries, ensuring the growth of healthy seedlings for replanting.

2. Environmental Clean-Ups
Participate in regular clean-up campaigns to remove trash and debris from mangroves, beaches, and waterways. Volunteers also work to raise awareness among locals and visitors about waste reduction and the importance of preserving these natural areas for eco-tourism and marine biodiversity.
3. Marine Life Conservation
Support efforts to build and maintain artificial reefs, providing safe habitats for marine species. Volunteers collaborate with local fishermen to promote sustainable fishing methods that balance economic needs with marine conservation goals.

Through these impactful activities, volunteers help preserve TFC’s unique ecosystem while empowering the local community to build a sustainable and resilient future.

Trapaing Sangke Fishing Community (TFC): A Model for Sustainable Development
Trapaing Sangke Fishing Community (TFC) is a community-based organization dedicated to preserving and protecting mangrove forests to maintain ecological balance and support marine life, including crabs, fish, and shrimp. By safeguarding these vital ecosystems, TFC enables local fishermen to sustain their livelihoods within the community, reducing the need for migration to other countries.
Since 2012, Cambodian Youth Action (CYA) has partnered with TFC to support this impactful initiative. Through our collaboration, TFC transformed into a thriving eco-tourism destination in 2014, now attracting hundreds of visitors each week. This remarkable success is a testament to the unwavering efforts of local residents and the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.
However, continued progress depends on sustained support. Volunteers remain essential in fostering TFC’s growth, working alongside the community to ensure the area remains clean and well-maintained while expanding mangrove reforestation and nurseries. Join us in empowering TFC to thrive as a beacon of sustainability and resilience. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

Join us for a friendly, rewarding and creative experience!

Nestling in a lush green valley, the commune of Coly - St Amand lies at the heart of the Périgord Noir, an area rich in history! It's made up of two former communes that have decided to come together as one, and we'll be working to bring these formerly separate areas together as one.
The Ecocycle association is a third-place organisation that is developing a participatory activity project in the commune of Saint Amand de Coly and the surrounding area. These activities are strongly influenced by concerns about climate change.
A third place like Ecocycle in Coly-Saint-Amand is a shared space that brings together people, ideas and projects to encourage collaboration and social links. It's a place open to everyone, where you can work, talk, learn and sometimes even relax. Halfway between home and the workplace, a third place can host a variety of activities: workshops, cultural events, training courses or collective projects.
At Ecocycle, for example, there is a strong ecological and community dimension. It promotes recycling, creatively with reused materials, and the development of a shared garden. It's a place that supports local initiatives while creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for residents and visitors alike. In short, it's much more than just a building: it's a place for life, ideas and encounters!

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography.

Kost og logi

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.
One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:
1. A day trip to the Hot River area, combined with a cleanup or work with an environmental project in the area, or
2. A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.
Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

Hornstrandir is on the farthest point in the northwest of Iceland, to the north of the Jökulfirðir and to
the northwest of Drangajökull. Hornstrandir is close to the Arctic Circle and on a clear day the snowy mountains of Greenland are visible. No one lives in Hornstrandir throughout winter after social changes resulted in the abandonment of all farms during World War II and in the post-war period.
Hesteyri is a small village of ten houses that was abandoned in 1952. Farther into the fjord, there are the ruins of an old whaling station which was built by Norwegians in 1897. Hesteyri is a popular starting and ending place for hikers. The area is also popular for blueberry and crowberry picking.

Arrangeret af

This project is located on the nature reserve at Hornstrandir which is Iceland's northernmost
peninsula, situated in the Westfjords of the country. Our host is a family that runs activities and services in the Old Doctor’s House during summer time. SEEDS volunteers have been supporting the activities since 2015 with excellent results. The place is extremely beautiful but very isolated and only accessible by boat or hiking.

The main task of the project will be helping with renovation works in the Old Doctor’s House, supporting the installation of a new fresh water intake and helping moving or transporting materials from the boats to the land and vice versa. Most of the tasks have to be manually made because no machines are allowed in the reserve.

LANGUAGE: English will be the official language in the camp; basic conversational skills are needed.

TERMINAL: Closest international Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík (KEF). Bus station: Central Reykjavík (BSÍ).

SEEDS organises the “minibus option”, a shared transport from Reykjavík to the camps and vice-versa, which
apart from being cheaper and more convenient, allows volunteers to meet fellow campers and have a relaxed trip while stopping on the way for interesting and tourist sites. The minibus to this camp will cost EUR 75 (Euros) one way, and EUR 150 (Euros) both ways. This is about 30-40% cheaper than public transportation services.

Meeting time will be 7:00 am on May 6 at SEEDS Office. We will return to Reykjavík in the late evening of May 20.

EXTRAS / SPECIAL REMARKS: Participation fee EUR 350 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. The fee does not include the transportation from Reykjavík to the camp and back, which costs EUR 75 one way or EUR 150 for both ways.

Volunteers should be motivated to experience life in a very isolated but extremely beautiful part of Iceland. Weather in Iceland is unpredictable and it can be cold or rainy even in early summer. Participants should bring good walking shoes, hiking boots, working clothes, warm clothes, rainproof coats, scarves, gloves and hats.

Free time activities in the area include hikes or walks in the surroundings. The house has a good atmosphere, with card games and live music as evening activities. Volunteers with musical skills should bring their music instruments along. If weather allows, we will make a barbecue pit for the farewell party.

Environmental protection is a pressing global priority, particularly in Nepal, where solid waste management poses significant environmental and health challenges. Rapid urbanization and changing consumption patterns increase waste, which, if poorly managed, causes environmental harm and health risks. In VIN s communities, improper waste disposal in schools and public areas contributes to littering and health issues like respiratory problems, diarrhea, and skin diseases. Non-biodegradable waste (NBW), especially in areas like Jitpurphedi and Kavresthali, further damages the environment and agriculture. This project, Environmental Stewards: Preserving Our Common Home, aims to promote sustainable waste management practices such as segregation, recycling, and composting, empowering communities for a cleaner, healthier Nepal.
