Based on the time of the year the volunteers will be working during the day or at night in the months of August and September from 20:00 to 08:00. Depending on the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night, and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:
1. Finding adult turtles and collecting their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.

Please consider that the schedule is subject to change depending on the weather conditions and the condition of the sea turtles and it is possible to work with crocodiles in case there is no work with turtles, this can happen mostly in the months of January and February. The coordinator or the camp leader will be informing you regarding your work schedule.

Rincon de Guayabitos, also known as Guayabitos, is a beach town located in the astonishing Sierra Madre Occidental, in the state of Nayarit and bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the cities of Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

Riviera Nayarit is emerging as one of the most attractive and magic destinations of Mexico. The area extends approximately 300 kilometers along the coast, integrated by mountainous jungle and facing coastal islands. For those seeking a more rural and rustic experience with magic beach towns in Mexico, the Riviera has a massive open space for everyone along the Nayarit coast, also, for those who want to relax there are also quiet beaches and there are other beaches with heavy waves for surfers.

Arrangeret af

Vive Mexico has been organizing this workcamp regularly in Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit since 2014. The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results. Participating in sea turtle conservation is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles.

Volunteers at TFC contribute significantly to protecting the environment and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

1. Mangrove Reforestation

2. Environmental Clean-Ups

3. Marine Life Conservation
Support efforts to build and maintain artificial reefs, providing safe habitats for marine species. Volunteers collaborate with local fishermen to promote sustainable fishing methods that balance economic needs with marine conservation goals.

Through these impactful activities, volunteers help preserve TFC’s unique ecosystem while empowering the local community to build a sustainable and resilient future.

Trapaing Sangke Fishing Community (TFC): A Model for Sustainable Development

Trapaing Sangke Fishing Community (TFC) is a community-based organization dedicated to preserving and protecting mangrove forests to maintain ecological balance and support marine life, including crabs, fish, and shrimp. By safeguarding these vital ecosystems, TFC enables local fishermen to sustain their livelihoods within the community, reducing the need for migration to other countries.

Since 2012, Cambodian Youth Action (CYA) has partnered with TFC to support this impactful initiative. Through our collaboration, TFC transformed into a thriving eco-tourism destination in 2014, now attracting hundreds of visitors each week. This remarkable success is a testament to the unwavering efforts of local residents and the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.

However, continued progress depends on sustained support. Volunteers remain essential in fostering TFC’s growth, working alongside the community to ensure the area remains clean and well-maintained while expanding mangrove reforestation and nurseries. Join us in empowering TFC to thrive as a beacon of sustainability and resilience. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

Star Paws is a sociopreneur business that works on the animal issue, especially cats.
Some people just ignore the existence of stray cats in their neighborhood or even see stray cats
as pests. They live in the traditional market, housing area, and also the streets. Often, we find
kittens being dumped inside a box on the street and in the traditional markets. People just don't
want to be bothered by the newborn kitten and think that dumping the kittens in the traditional
market will solve the problem. In fact, almost all kittens die instead of surviving. It is not different
from slowly killing them.

Volunteer project: The project activities take place around Banepa - a beautiful town at 1500m altitude, surrounded by the green hills and panoramic views of the Himalayan range, just an hour bus ride from Kathmandu. Nature is all around and the air here is far better than in the bustling capital. Still Banepa offers amenities like restaurants with Wi-Fi, pharmacies, grocery stores and to top it all off, a beautiful old town. From here, field trips to a variety of places are possible, for example ancient Hindu temples, various trekking opportunities and all the sights of the Kathmandu valley are not far away.In this project, we are helping the forest community and the Senagal village of Kavre district nearby Banepa. After the earthquake, a lot of buildings were destroyed, and the local population needs help in rebuilding the village. We ll be assisting in developing effective agricultural methods; we will do environmental awareness and forest conservation work; we ll work together with local people to build a multi-purpose community house that can be used for various activities or for shelter in case of emergency.

Arbejde

During this camp, participants can share their passion for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management and sustainability, and you also love taking photos, then this project is for you!

While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!

You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits, such as outdoor cleanup tasks, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on weather conditions, as on the availability of our partners.

You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice while exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

Kost og logi

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. Participants sleep in shared rooms with up to 6 people so everyone is expected to behave considerately. Please bring your own towel.

Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening. Be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Beliggenhed og fritid

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city that lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle, Hot River hike and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions, so we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Arrangeret af

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing and hands-on activities. On top of that you get to know Iceland and its culture while having fun, exploring the city, its attractions and stunning nature, which you can experience in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances (up to 1,5 hours) during activities and sightseeing.

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.

Rejsevejledning til mødested

The meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on March 7 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Yderligere detaljer

English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.

Krav

Participation fee EUR 450 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. It includes transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day) and the night photography workshop.

Workcamp is held in Kami-mitani area, Nabari city, Mie prefecture, about 60 km from Osaka. There are famous falls nearby that many hikers visit. Other activities - Hiking, Visiting Nara prefecture on free day etc.

Arrangeret af

This project is actively working for SDGs 15 (Life on Land), organized together with Akame no SATOYAMA wo Sodateru kai, a local environmental organization for conservation of SATOYAMA forest working in Nabari city, since 1999. Because this area is relatively close to the big cities between Osaka and Nagoya, there were plans to build a golf field and a disposal center. However, the local people stopped those plans by collecting donations and buying the land to keep beatutiful nature. SATOYAMA needs to be maintained by humans for its biodiversity and water adjustment function. Our ancestors had protected and utilized the forest in an ecological and sustainable way, which has been neglected by modernization at many places in Japan.
*Outcome of this project: Over the last 20 years, 30 ha of SATOYAMA forest has been maintained by the previous volunteers. Please see the presentation of the camp leader for the IVS contest in Japan; https://www.slideshare.net/nice-workcamp/w55 (only Japanese for the moment, but you can at least enjoy the pictures!).
