Trabajo a desarrollar en el voluntariado

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local
environmental issues, as well as photography.
If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs, making videos or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!
While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a geothermal power plant, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an outdoor Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, as well as availability or restrictions of our partner organisations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city.
At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.
SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and its attractions, as stunning natural attractions in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
In this project SEEDS will organise a night photography (Northern Lights) workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. This will take place during late evening and possibly into the night. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Alojamiento y comida

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen,
showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Trabajo a desarrollar en el voluntariado

SEEDS volunteers will take on a variety of activities, depending on weather conditions and the needs of our partners including working in the forestry section and vegetable greenhouses in the EcoVillage, as well as participating in a nationwide project to raise awareness of ocean pollution, plastic waste, and engage the group in hands-on cleanup efforts in the area, allowing volunteers to make a direct impact!
The camp is based at Alviðra, which offers a range of activities to connect people with nature, such as community gardens, wildlife workshops, school programs, and hikes. As part of the camp, volunteers help maintain the center through tasks like gardening, renovating the house and other projects such as removing old fences to protect wildlife, marking walking paths, and potentially do forestry work like trimming or planting trees.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should be prepared to share environmental issues from their home countries and be ready to spend time outdoors. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

The accommodation is located an hour drive south-east from Reykjavík. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre and sits under Ingólfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingólfur, with a view of Eyjafjallajökull where the volcanic eruptions began in March and April 2010.
The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found throughout the area, which is a popular attraction among both foreign and local visitors.
The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away, with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafés and bars.

Would you like to help children and young people have an unforgettable summer and get to know the Baltic Sea beach at the same time? Then help out with our spring cleaning at Brunswick’s children and youth camping site on the Lenster beach in Groemitz. Together with other young people from all over the world you support the staff of the campsite during various seasonal preparatory repairs on the entire site. Together you will repair or rebuild playgrounds and sports fields as well as barbecue and campfire areas, carry out painting, painting and basic cleaning work, carry out various site maintenance work (gardening and earthworks), repair bicycles and equip tents with beds, mattresses, lamps and other items. (Note: The actual work to be carried out may differ from that described here).
In the first week you will work from Thursday 24 April to Saturday 26 April, in the second week from Monday 28 April to Wednesday 30 April and on Friday 2 May and Saturday 3 May (Thursday 1 May is a public holiday in Germany). Your daily working hours are from 9am to 4pm with a lunch break. As you live and work directly on the campsite, you don’t have to spend time to travel to work.
You will be living in basic 4-bed rooms in the main building of the campsite, which is located just a few metres away from the sandy beach.
Information about the campsite can be found at https://www.braunschweig.de/zeltplatz-lenste and at the bottom of https://www.braunschweig.de/zeltplatz-lenste/zeltplatz.php there is also a short film (unfortunately also only in German) about the campsite.

Alojamiento y comida

You will be sleeping in 4-bed rooms in the main building of a child and youth camping site.
Monday to Friday you will be fully catered for (vegan, halal and kosher are not possible). On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays you cater for yourself. Money for shopping on these days will be provided. Please state any intolerances during registration.

Localización y ocio

The children and youth campsite is just a few metres away from the beautiful Baltic Sea beach. In April it will probably still be too cold to go swimming, but there will be bicycles available for you to use, so you can go on bike rides on the embankments along the Baltic coast!
There is a wide range of free-time activities available for you on the huge outdoor area of the campsite: several football pitches, a beach volleyball court, a beach football court, a beach handball court, a basketball court, a huge bouncy castle, a zip-line, several table tennis tables and giant chess. You can spend your evenings around the campfire.
On the free weekend, it’s also worth taking a trip to Hamburg (100km away) and/or Lübeck (50km away).

Children's and youth campsite of the city of Braunschweig
The campsite at Lenster Strand in Grömitz on the Baltic Sea is mainly used for recreation by children and young people from Brunswick, but can also be used by other groups and families. It is primarily aimed at children and young people from lower-income families and thus makes an important contribution to their recreation and relief.

The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Our principles: Ecological learning, voluntary contribution, self-organisation, social development, intercultural learning, gender equality, anti-racism/anti-discrimination and political education.

This year, you will help with the set construction. During 2025, 2 plays will be performed (The Three Musketeers, an adventure play that tells the story of the young d'Artagnan, who joins the French king's musketeers and fights with them against intrigue, rivalry and danger- and Alice im Wunderland, a surrealist theatre piece that depicts the adventures of young Alice in a fantastical land where she encounters bizarre creatures) the stage needs to be renewed accordingly: In the end, the scenery is supposed to suit both plays– a very interesting and challenging task! You will screw, nail, and paint. Smaller props will need to be built, too.

Apart from that, your work will also entail doing:
• Installing a wooden floor in the prop garage.
• Renewing the cover of the small wooden shelf storage.
• Painting service huts
• Support stage construction
• Clean, repair + paint fence around the perimeter of the site
• Paint hall walls
• Clean the stones around the cold hall with a high-pressure cleaner, replace/refill grit if necessary.
• And some other tasks as needed! Be sure to be always prepare to lend a helping hand

There will be a professional work instructor who helps you with all tasks. For sure it is helpful though, if you have a bit of experience in manual/constructional work and have used tools like cordless screwdrivers before.

You will be accommodated directly on the project side: Next to the stage, there is huge building for administration, a workshop, a café … here you will have one big room for yourselves, showers, and a kitchen. Mind that there is only one big room for sleeping available to all volunteers – no separation possible! Regarding food, you will be asked to cook for yourselves, and carry out all related activities (grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning after yourselves).

Heidenheim an der Brenz is a town with a bit less than 50.000 inhabitants in the southern region of Baden-Württemberg. The area is rather rural with a beautiful countryside: since it is at the end of the Swabian Albs – a mountain range of about 220km-, there are many hills and forests. Also in the town you will find the Hellenstein Castle, first built on the 12th century, and wildlife park with around 100 animals, very close to your project. If you would like to visit a larger town, you may go to Ulm which is only 30km away. Stuttgart and Munich are just about 2 hours by train.

Lights, Curtain, Action! Are you ready to take part in the building of a Theater?

Your host will the Open-Air Theatre Heidenheim, the 2nd largest one of its kind in Southern Germany.

It is situated on the “castle hill” of the town of Heidenheim an der Brenz, surrounded by forests, and can accommodate up to 1100 spectators.
The Open-Air Theatre is run by a non-profit association and they are very excited about hosting again a group of international volunteers. This project is perfect for everyone who is interested in theatres and wants to have a look behind the scenes! Have a look at the Theatre here: www.naturtheater.de

The association was first founded by Gustav Müller over 100 years ago, after the first World War, in his quest of dedicating his life to something that would unite people: art. In 1919 not only did Müller materialize this idea, but also managed to host several productions at the concert hall.
Nowadays, with over 500 members of all ages, the Naturtheater Heidenheim association is one of the popular organizations in the city of Heidenheim and its surrounding area.

One of the main goals of the project is to raise awareness about the necessity to protect, preserve and promote cultural and natural heritage in general and the inscribed or potential World Heritage sites inparticular.Zvartnots was built in the middle of the 7th century. On the mornings of the 2 weeks, you'll be actively involved in setting up the Ecocycle café. You'll be asked to build outdoor furniture out of pallet wood, and you'll continue the work started by a volunteer on signage inside the café. Whether you're a keen DIY enthusiast or just curious, this workcamp gives you the chance to make your own contribution to the building while discovering the richness and diversity of the dynamics of a third place. Join us for a friendly, rewarding and creative experience!

Alojamiento y comida

You will be welcomed at the Ecocycle Café, located in the same area as the site. Sleeping accommodation in dormitories of 4 to 5 people. Meals will be prepared and eaten collectively in the café's kitchen and dining room. From time to time, you'll enjoy your meals in the company of café volunteers, reinforcing the warm, collaborative spirit that is so important to this project. Everyone will be able to help in the kitchen and share their favourite recipes. So don't forget to bring your gourmet ideas!

Localización y ocio

Site visits, nature activities, you will build your own entertainment program with the animators and the other participants. We favor a discovery of the territory and these actors over consumption activities.

Nestling in a lush green valley, the commune of Coly - St Amand lies at the heart of the Périgord Noir, an area rich in history! It's made up of two former communes that have decided to come together as one, and we'll be working to bring these formerly separate areas together as one.
The Ecocycle association is a third-place organisation that is developing a participatory activity project in the commune of Saint Amand de Coly and the surrounding area. These activities are strongly influenced by concerns about climate change.
A third place like Ecocycle in Coly-Saint-Amand is a shared space that brings together people, ideas and projects to encourage collaboration and social links. It's a place open to everyone, where you can work, talk, learn and sometimes even relax. Halfway between home and the workplace, a third place can host a variety of activities: workshops, cultural events, training courses or collective projects.
At Ecocycle, for example, there is a strong ecological and community dimension. It promotes recycling, creatively with reused materials, and the development of a shared garden. It's a place that supports local initiatives while creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for residents and visitors alike. In short, it's much more than just a building: it's a place for life, ideas and encounters!

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography.

Alojamiento y comida

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine.

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.
One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:
1. A day trip to the Hot River area, combined with a cleanup or work with an environmental project in the area, or
2. A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.
Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

The working day normally runs from 09:00 - 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee. No previous experience is necessary but the work is demanding and might require a good physical condition. As it is outdoors work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible, as depending on the weather, the work plan might change with short notice or the group may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned.
Volunteers need to be prepared for working outdoors, be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and bring warm winter clothes as the tasks take place outside and it could get rather cold even in spring/summer. Bring warm under-layers, waterproofs, walking shoes/boots, a good sleeping bag, hat, scarves and gloves.

Alojamiento y comida

SEEDS volunteers will sleep in beds in shared rooms. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
The house is well heated, and has a shower and a well equipped kitchen. The electricity is limited but enough to charge cameras and other small electronics. There is no internet and mobile phone connection is very limited.

There is a landline available through which volunteers’ families can reach them if needed.
Volunteers will receive food during the camp but it may be that the group will receive food ingredients and be in charge of cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Hornstrandir is on the farthest point in the northwest of Iceland, to the north of the Jökulfirðir and to
the northwest of Drangajökull. Hornstrandir is close to the Arctic Circle and on a clear day the snowy mountains of Greenland are visible. No one lives in Hornstrandir throughout winter after social changes resulted in the abandonment of all farms during World War II and in the post-war period.
Hesteyri is a small village of ten houses that was abandoned in 1952. Farther into the fjord, there are the ruins of an old whaling station which was built by Norwegians in 1897. Hesteyri is a popular starting and ending place for hikers. The area is also popular for blueberry and crowberry picking.

This project is located on the nature reserve at Hornstrandir which is Iceland's northernmost
peninsula, situated in the Westfjords of the country. Our host is a family that runs activities and services in the Old Doctor’s House during summer time. SEEDS volunteers have been supporting the activities since 2015 with excellent results. The place is extremely beautiful but very isolated and only accessible by boat or hiking.

The main task of the project will be helping with renovation works in the Old Doctor’s House, supporting the installation of a new fresh water intake and helping moving or transporting materials from the boats to the land and vice versa. Most of the tasks have to be manually made because no machines are allowed in the reserve.

LANGUAGE: English will be the official language in the camp; basic conversational skills are needed.

TERMINAL: Closest international Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík (KEF). Bus station: Central Reykjavík (BSÍ).

SEEDS organises the “minibus option”, a shared transport from Reykjavík to the camps and vice-versa, which
apart from being cheaper and more convenient, allows volunteers to meet fellow campers and have a relaxed trip while stopping on the way for interesting and tourist sites. The minibus to this camp will cost EUR 75 (Euros) one way, and EUR 150 (Euros) both ways. This is about 30-40% cheaper than public transportation services.

Meeting time will be 7:00 am on May 6 at SEEDS Office. We will return to Reykjavík in the late evening of May 20.

EXTRAS / SPECIAL REMARKS: Participation fee EUR 350 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. The fee does not include the transportation from Reykjavík to the camp and back, which costs EUR 75 one way or EUR 150 for both ways.

Volunteers should be motivated to experience life in a very isolated but extremely beautiful part of Iceland. Weather in Iceland is unpredictable and it can be cold or rainy even in early summer. Participants should bring good walking shoes, hiking boots, working clothes, warm clothes, rainproof coats, scarves, gloves and hats.

Free time activities in the area include hikes or walks in the surroundings. The house has a good atmosphere, with card games and live music as evening activities. Volunteers with musical skills should bring their music instruments along. If weather allows, we will make a barbecue pit for the farewell party.

The island of Giglio is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the "Cetacean Sanctuary" protected area. The Island of Giglio, situated opposite Monte Argentario, covers an area of 21 square kilometers, is the second largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago and is renowned for its natural beauty: the crystal-clear emerald sea, with its rich and fishy seabed, frames an area that is still 90% wild. In addition to its natural heritage of beaches and coastline, the island has two towns, Giglio Castello, a charming medieval village that stands on the heights of the island, and Giglio Porto, the island's only port, small and picturesque, with multicolored houses and a clear sea. Isola del Giglio has a resident community of about 1000 people, mainly engaged in tourist activities, strongly linked to their territory and always used to dealing with new visitors.

The workcamp is organized by Proloco, a cultural organization, that has among its institutional tasks the valorization of the natural, cultural and historical resources of Giglio island, as well as the realization of initiatives of touristic interest. The Pro.Loco promotes the workcamp in collaboration with the municipality and a network of associations in the area: Lega Navale, Giglio Ambiente and a Consortium of local waste companies, which work together every year to clean the island's coastline.
The Mediterranean Sea, although constituting less than 1% of the planet's water surface, is the sixth area of accumulation of waste in the world. Plus, during winter storms, waves dump an important amount of waste, mainly plastic. And an Island like ours, which lives mainly on tourism, the care and maintenance of its natural resources is the first ticket to see, as well as the minimum requirement to allow our visitors to live the fantastic experience they deserve. The objective of this project is to reduce the waste on the island’s coast which would benefit the environment and tourism. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Action-SDG13; Life below water-SDG14.

SEEDS volunteers will have the opportunity to work on the historical island of Viðey for the 19th year in a row with our host, the city of Reykjavík. Viðey is a popular destination during the summer among Icelandic and foreign visitors. Volunteers will help prepare the island for the summer season. Volunteers will beautify the surroundings by cleaning up the area, especially along the coastline, for instance by hand-picking garbage or collecting trash blown by the wind or brought by the sea to the shores and surroundings.
SEEDS volunteers may carry out some gardening activities as well and possibly make and maintain walking paths. Well maintained paths enable people to visit the island without damaging it and this important work also helps to improve safety for visitors. Depending on the advance of the project and weather conditions, volunteers may have other possible tasks such as checking up and repairing garden furniture.
The working day normally runs from 09:00 - 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee; however, please be prepared for some flexibility due to the nature of Iceland's changeable weather, as we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. The temperature in May can drop during the evenings. Volunteers should have motivation to work outside and work in all kinds of weather, as it can get cold and rainy. The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our host. No previous experience is necessary.

Viðey or “Wood Island” is the largest (1.7 km²) island in the Kollafjörður Bay, just outside Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. The island is covered by many species of plants and at least 30 species of breeding birds have been counted here. Viðey was inhabited soon after the settlement of Iceland in the 10th century. In the beginning of the 20th century, around 100 people lived there. Today the island is uninhabited.
There is a regular ferry connection between the island and the harbour of Reykjavík. The island is only a few hundred metres away from the city and the trip takes a few minutes. This makes Viðey so special; it is a peaceful place, very close to the busy city life of the capital. There are hiking and cycling paths around the island and there is no motor traffic allowed. It also features intriguing sculptural artwork, amongst them all nine pairs of basalt pillars that comprise Richard Serra’s work “Áfangar” and Yoko Ono’s “Imagine Peace” column, a tower of light, which is supported by the widow of John Lennon. Other places of interest on Viðey are related to archaeological research.

Trabajo a desarrollar en el voluntariado

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography.

Alojamiento y comida

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine.

Localización y ocio

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
