Arbeit

During this camp, participants can share their passion for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management and sustainability, and you also love taking photos, then this project is for you!

While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!

You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits, such as outdoor cleanup tasks, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on weather conditions, as on the availability of our partners.

You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice while exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. Participants sleep in shared rooms with up to 6 people so everyone is expected to behave considerately. Please bring your own towel.

Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening. Be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Lage und Freizeit

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city that lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions, so we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle, Hot River hike and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing and hands-on activities. On top of that you get to know Iceland and its culture while having fun, exploring the city, its attractions and stunning nature, which you can experience in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances (up to 1,5 hours) during activities and sightseeing.

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on March 27 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

From the airport there are bus services to the city, either the Flybus or the bus number 55. The meeting point will be at the SEEDS office at Grettisgata 3a.

Weitere Infos

English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.

Anforderungen

Participation fee EUR 450 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. It includes transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day) and the night photography workshop.

Arbeit

The camp is based at Alviðra, which offers a range of activities to connect people with nature, such as community gardens, wildlife workshops, school programs, and hikes. As part of the camp, volunteers help maintain the center through tasks like gardening, renovating the house and other projects such as removing old fences to protect wildlife, marking walking paths, and potentially do forestry work like trimming or planting trees.

This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should be prepared to share environmental issues from their home countries and be ready to spend time outdoors. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS volunteers stay in an old farm which has been transformed into an environmental education centre. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. Volunteers sleep in shared rooms, with up to 6 people per room.

Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Lage und Freizeit

The accommodation is located an hour drive south-east from Reykjavík. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre and sits under Ingólfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingólfur, with a view of Eyjafjallajökull where the volcanic eruptions began in March and April 2010.

The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found throughout the area, which is a popular attraction among both foreign and local visitors.

The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away, with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafés and bars.

Additional excursions (e.g. Golden Circle, the South Shore or Reykjanes Peninsula or a day-trip to the city of Reykjavík) can be arranged at discount fares depending on time availability, weather conditions, and the number of volunteers interested.

The weather may be cold or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and/or waterproof clothes.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This camp is part of SEEDS' ongoing efforts to raise awareness, promote engagement in environmental issues and to support sustainability, organic and permaculture farming, social inclusion, education and hands-on actions in the field. Volunteers will gain insights into local and global challenges through non-formal educational activities such as hands-on work, visits, discussions, and workshops.

SEEDS volunteers have the opportunity to participate in different projects in collaboration with Landvernd (the Icelandic Environmental Organization), the EcoVillage at Sólheimar, the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, Umhverfisstofnun (the Icelandic Environmental Agency) and Blái Herinn (the Blue Army).

SEEDS volunteers will take on a variety of activities, depending on weather conditions and the needs of our partners including working in the forestry section and vegetable greenhouses in the EcoVillage, as well as participating in a nationwide project to raise awareness of ocean pollution, plastic waste, and engage the group in hands-on cleanup efforts in the area, allowing volunteers to make a direct impact!

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Meeting time is at 16:00 (4:00 pm) on April 16 at the SEEDS Office in Reykjavik.

Weitere Infos

During this workcamp, you will participate in the creation of a new reading space in the garden of the Ballancourt media library. The Ballancourt media library has a small piece of abandoned garden covered in brambles. During this project, you will transform this space into a new reading area intended for the village children. You will build wooden benches and tables, as well as decorative elements, so that residents and children can read in a pleasant, friendly, and ecological environment.

Leisure: You can enjoy animations on the association's site, as well as discover the cultural and natural heritage of the Gatinais Park. You will participate in organizing activities with local youth. Leisure activities will be organized collectively according to the possibilities and the available budget.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

VirVolt stands for International Volunteers Village. For two years, the association has been settled in the heart of nature, in the middle of a regional park. Welcoming young people from all over the world, getting to know each other and enriching ourselves through our differences; reflecting and acting together for environmental protection; having a positive impact on the places and the people living around the site or simply passing through... This is the project of this future village, which is built every year thanks to the young people who come to contribute, placing solidarity at the centre of their actions. Living in yurts, tipis, and caravans, with a permaculture garden, water-saving methods, waste reduction, and recycling— this little village that is destined to grow respects its natural surroundings and experiments with eco-responsible practices. Participating in this project means contributing to the evolution of a unique and original place; it means taking an active part in the construction of new solidarity-based spaces and ecological initiatives; it means engaging for the benefit of a society that is more respectful of humans and nature.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Association Vir‘volt , Camping de la Sablière. Arrival between 2pm and 6pm.

Arbeit

Immerse yourself in the municipalities of Molières and Puycornet, where you will take part in a workcamp dedicated to enhancing the Pont du Vert, an old structure dating back to the 12th century.
Now partially collapsed and heavily overgrown with vegetation, this bridge requires special attention in order to stabilize and preserve it.
Working in small groups and under the guidance of the municipality’s technical supervisors, you will restore the structure — both its upper part and its façades — by reinforcing it and removing the invasive plants (grasses, brambles and shrubs) that are currently weakening it.
As you will be working on a centuries-old monument that requires agility and caution, we are looking for serious participants.
All safety measures will be put in place by the municipal teams to ensure optimal working conditions.
Point of attention: some areas of the bridge are elevated (max. 4 m).
At the same time, you will be working in pairs and on a rotating basis to take responsibility for the camp kitchen. You will have the rewarding task of preparing a balanced, seasonal meal for the whole group.
This workcamp will be a fantastic opportunity to meet young people from across Europe and around the world, share cultures and enjoy each other's company.
So, take the Royal Road and join Citrus on this workcamp, which will immerse you in the local heritage.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated in bungalows at the municipal campsite of Molières, which is very close to the worksite. Mattresses and pillows will be provided; you only need to bring your own sleeping bag.
As with all Citrus workcamps, cooking is an integral part of the experience. It is an essential social moment that fosters collective living and enables you to develop skills beyond those required at the worksite. Special attention will be given to seasonal and local produce. Please note that meat will not be served every day; we plan two meat-based meals per week. Specific dietary requirements can be discussed with the group leaders.

Lage und Freizeit

Molières, a municipality in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne, located 17 km from Caussade and 80 km from Toulouse.
Leisure: On the edge of the Tarn-et-Garonne region, you will enjoy a variety of leisure activities: visits to medieval villages, hiking, etc.
Some of these activities will give you the chance to meet local residents and share this experience with them.
In the evenings and at weekends, let your imagination run wild and organize gatherings with large games, a folk dance, or musical moments.
Finally, what could be better than organizing a large international meal open to everyone, to share the culinary specialties of your country with the local residents and passing visitors?

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Would you like to take part in the restoring of the Roman Bridge (Pont Vert) in Molières-Puycornet, formerly a crossing point on the royal road between Paris and Toulouse?
Then take the road yourself and come help restore beauty to this structure, which needs your motivation.
You will also discover CITRUS's values and ways of working as a popular education association that promotes living together, sharing, and diversity. A true little haven of peace.
Accompanied by our supervisory team, you will live in the heart of the two municipalities, sharing daily life with our international volunteers on site and the residents of Molières and Puycornet.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The group leaders will pick you up from Caussade station (82000).

Arbeit

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.

A day trip to the Hot River area, combined with a cleanup or work with an environmental project in the area, is included for the participants in this camp. Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Arbeit

SEEDS volunteers will be doing general park maintenance and assisting the horticultural staff tending to the collection of perennials, alpine trees and shrubs in the garden. The garden organises guided tours and events throughout the summer, with which the volunteers may assist in their preparation. These special events are all related to the general aim and work of the garden and some of them are carried out at short notice.
The work can be repetitive as general gardening tasks tend to be and most of it is outdoors. The project starts early every weekday: working hours are from 8:15 - 15:00, except on Fridays, when work finishes at 12:00 as a part of an ongoing research into shortening the working week. Volunteers have to be motivated to start work early in the morning, but in compensation they will have more free time in the afternoon.
No previous experience is necessary, but the work requires patience and good physical condition as it may be tiring. As it is outdoors, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. Weather is unpredictable and it can be cold and/or rainy, be prepared to experience all kinds of weather. We recommend bringing good walking shoes/boots, warm and/or waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats).

This is the sixteenth year in a row that SEEDS offers projects in the Botanical Gardens in Reykjavík. The Botanical Gardens are an outdoor collection of living plants, founded in 1961 and it will celebrate its 65thanniversary in 2026. The gardens’ main role is to conserve plants for education, research and delight. They conserve about 5000 plant species in eight plant collections, which give an idea of the enormous diversity of vegetation in the northern temperate zone. The garden is open to the public and free of charge.
