Wer organisiert das Projekt?

After the experience during the Third World Meeting of Terraced Landscapes held in Italy in October 2016 and subsequent camps in 2017, 2018 and 2019 the collaboration between IBO Italia and the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) Ischia i Procida subsection continues for 2021. The CAI Ischia-Procida was founded in May 2012 and its members, in addition to their passion for the mountains and their free access to hiking and mountaineering, pay attention to the culture and history of the mountain environment, aware that the mountains can be a place of excellence to experience a sustainable use of resources oriented, protecting nature and history and promoting the socio-economic growth of local populations. Also for 2021 the activities planned are the restoration of some paths that are part of the CAI cadastre in Ischia. Volunteers will be involved in the maintenance of activities of some trails. The volunteer camp is part of a wider project of heritage care built in dry stone and transfer of traditional building knowledge carried out by the Italian section of the World Alliance for Terraced Landscapes (ITLA).

Meeting time will be 18:00 (6:00 pm) 05-14 October at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Arbeit

While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a community dinner or a visit to a recycling centre, a geothermal power plant, a museum or exhibition. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, pandemic-related restrictions, as well as availability of our partner organizations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.
SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle or other excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing.
Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.
In this project SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting (Northern Lights) workshop in the countryside near Reykjavík. This will take place during late evening and possibly into the night. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the international evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Lage und Freizeit

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!

Predklasteri. The meeting time is usually in the afternoon. Please note it takes about 3,5 hours to get there from Prague and about 40 minutes from Brno. The exact info will be provided in the infosheet.

Arbeit

The workcamp aims to find common Central European roots between Czech and German culture. Workcamp will not only work manually, in addition to a number of work activities (assistance in monastic forests in planting species-diverse forests, minor work in the monastery, production of bio coal in monastic orchards) we will also engage in slightly professional pomological work- mapping old and regional varieties of fruit trees. We will also work on unravelling the story of Hevika Kroker, a Sudeten German woman from Krnov, who was moved to Predklasteri with her family after the war, where she also died in 2019. Together with the participants, we will examine her estate and try to reconstruct her life story. The work will be varied and adjusted to physical abilities of the volunteers. Please bring clothes that can get dirty and solid shoes. Study part: At the end of the workcamp, we will organize an event for the public, which will acquaint them with the fate of the pre-monastery neighbor Hedvika Kroker and how the "big" 20th century could have been reflected in people's daily lives. In addition, we will focus on common Czech-German elements in local culture and history - we will measure the excursion to Brno especially on its mixed character, we will visit the Gregor Mendel Museum and Villa Tugendhat. We also plan a trip to Lomnice, where there is a former Jewish quarter.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

In the former monastery school. You will sleep in three rooms with bunk beds. Every room has its own bathroom with a shower and a toilet. There is electricity and hot water available in the building. Please bring your own sleeping bag. You will prepare your meals together as a group in an equipped kitchen. A team of two volunteers will prepare each meal so that you can present your home cuisine. Please bring your favourite recipes. If you have a special diet, please let us know in advance. The food will be predominantly vegetarian because of environmental and ethical reasons. There is a washing machine and wi-fi in the building.

Lage und Freizeit

Predklasteri. A small village (1,400 inhabitants) about 30 km from Brno. It is situated in a picturesque landscape and it is considered to be the gateway of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Leisure time: Sightseeing in the region (the Pernstejn Castle and religious sights in the valley of the Svratka River between the towns of Tisnov and Pernstejn). Hiking in the countryside can be arranged. You can also visit local caves, a horse riding hall or 3D archery range. Fun games and activities will be prepared for you by the organizers.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This workcamp is organized by NGO Anitkomplex in cooperation with NGO Hojnost. Antikomplex strives for a society made up of truly free people and at the same time responsible citizens. It achieves this through critical reflection on the past and through programs for schools and the public. It seeks to prevent resurfacing historical traumas, which can be a source of populist manipulation that abuses historical traumas and baptisms to achieve political goals. In their activities, they focus mainly on the coexistence of Czech and German culture in the Czech lands and on critical knowledge and reflection on this coexistence. Hojnost is an association for more accessible local and healthy food, it has been cooperating with the Porta coeli monastery since January 2019, when it started cleaning old monastery orchards and gardens as part of volunteer projects in order to turn them into production orchards and a community garden. Hojnost also aims to support farmers and small producers in the Tisnov region.
In this workcamp, you are actively working for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities (UN SDG11).

Treffpunkt

Predklasteri. The meeting time is usually in the afternoon. Please note it takes about 3,5 hours to get there from Prague and about 40 minutes from Brno. The exact info will be provided in the infosheet.

Weitere Infos

Protective equipment (gloves, glasses, respirators) will be provided by the hosting organization. Please bring working clothes, headwear, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. The workcamp takes place in the area of the monastery with a community of three nuns still living there, so it is necessary to behave respectfully. The place where the nuns live is not in the same building as the accommodation for volunteers, but it is necessary to respect the quiet hours at night and not to consume hard alcohol. You will have an opportunity to enjoy the night life during your trip to Brno.

Anforderungen

Due to current travel restrictions we only accept volunteers from Europe, who do not need visa to travel to Czech Republic. Participation fee: Due to limited outgoing resources of INEX-SDA, we kindly ask participants to contribute 25 EUR towards the costs of general incoming administration of our workcamps. The fee will be collected upon arrival. Please note that this fee does not directly contribute to the workcamp budgets.

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!
Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, pandemic-related restrictions, as well as availability of our partner organisations.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

Arbeit

In this workcamp, you will support the forest school “Waldschulheim Indelhausen”, a place of non-formal environmental education for school classes.
You will take part in the Forest school's program. This means:
• in the mornings, you will be working on different environmental tasks to help maintain the surrounding biosphere area;
• in the afternoons, you will be learning more about forests and the nature surrounding us.
This is a special project for nature lovers and people interested in learning about nature protection work. The project is part of the 2022 IBG agenda: “Let’s take action for climate protection – volunteering for forests and peatlands”.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

You will be accommodated in shared rooms directly in the forest school. There are showers and bathroom facilities, as well as a gym hall, a volleyball court, table tennis tables and two climbing walls. Meals will be provided by the school, so you don't have to cook by yourself.

Lage und Freizeit

The “Waldschulheim” is located in the small village of Indelhausen in the middle of a geopark and at the southern end of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve “Schwaebische Alb” in southern Germany. This area features diverse mountainous and cultural landscapes, protected ecosystems with rare plants and animals and notable forest, meadow and orchard habitats. In line with our efforts to focus on workcamps within the field of nature protection the region is highly suitable. The surroundings are perfect for outdoors activities like hiking. It is very rural, and there are many great view-points and various old castle ruins that are worth visiting.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The forest school “Waldschulheim Indelhausen” is a pedagogical institution founded in 1977. The building used to be the village school and now serves 1,000 students and teachers every year as a non-formal learning place on the topic of forest and nature. Groups of students of the grades 7 to 9 of all school types usually stay here for two weeks and participate in different tasks of simple forest work, an educational program about the forest and excursions as well as games, fun and sports. You can take a look at the place here: https://waldschulheim-indelhausen.forstbw.de/. By participating in this workcamp, you are actively supporting biodiversity (UN SDG 15) and help us work against climate change (UN SDG 13).

Weitere Infos

The conservation work we are doing in such workcamps is our small contribution for climate protection. The engagement of international volunteers also has a symbolic character, in the sense that although environmental protection is implemented on a local level, it always has an international dimension.

As part of our agenda we would like to invite you to travel as environmentally friendly as possible. If you somehow have the option to go by train, bus or bicycle that could be a first step to become a climate steward.
