Arbeit

Help the community of Leibertingen make their village even more beautiful, using ecologically friendly methods! The municipality of Leibertingen needs your help on two different projects, which will both benefit their population and respect the environment.
• The first project will be about paving the alleys, in one of Leibertingen’s four cemeteries. Indeed, in each district of Leibertingen, there is a cemetery and in all but one of them, the alleys are paved with cobblestones. Now it is time to compensate this, by paving the alleys of the fourth cemetery. Doing so, you will use an eco-friendly type of cobblestone, which lets the grass grow around it. In addition, you will put up two wooden banks, where visitors can sit. Your work will contribute to the lives of the district’s inhabitants, by enhancing this important place.
• The second project will be about bringing flowers to Leibertingen! Your job will be to convert public grass strips all around the village into flower beds. This will have many advantages: First, it will make the village more colorful, second it will require less water and third, the native wildlife like butterflies, bees or hedgehogs will be happy!
The work will be led by a professional instructor, so no previous experience is needed. You will work around 30 hours per week and your group will commonly decide on how to spend your free time.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Your group will stay in the building of the aviation club in Leibertingen. From there to the work place, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes on foot. You will sleep in shared rooms with single beds. Pillows and covers are provided but please bring your own bedsheets (ie: pillow case, fitted sheet and comforter cover in size 90x190cm)! In the building there is an equipped kitchen, several bathrooms with showers and several toilets. You will also be able to enjoy the large outside area around the building. Your group of volunteers will be responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together. The food will be bought with the camp budget and everybody will take turns for cooking, washing the dishes and cleaning. In order to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, we encourage volunteers to reduce meat and try more sustainable dishes.

Lage und Freizeit

Leibertingen is a village of about 2,100 inhabitants, nested in the the “Upper Danube Nature Park” (Naturpark Obere Donau). It is located directly over the Danube valley, about 600m to 870m above sea level, and very close to the old mountain chain of the Swabian Alb. Coming to Leibertingen, you can expect spectacular scenery and wonderful hikes through forests, hills, rocks and along the Danube river. On the outskirts of the village you can visit the Wildenstein Castle, which overlooks the Danube valley. In the castle, there is one of the oldest youth hostels in Germany! During the weekend, you might go on excursions to the famous Hohenzollern Castle, to the city of Sigmaringen which also has a beautiful castle or to Lake Constance.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

In the municipality of Leibertingen there are four different districts: Altheim, Kreenheinstetten, Leibertingen and Thalheim. You will most probably get to know them all during your stay. In the past, there has already been a workcamp in Leibertingen, working on a pedagogical train in the forest. This year, the inhabitants are looking forward to greeting international volunteers again! Your work will satisfy needs, which have been expressed to the municipality. Also, they are looking forward to introduce you to their beautiful region.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

On October 9th we will organise pick-ups at Hausen i Tal train station. It will be in the afternoon but the times still need to be specified. Find the best connection on the German railway company's website: https://www.bahn.com/en

While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers! You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits. Some examples include outdoor cleanup tasks, a community dinner or a visit to a recycling centre, a geothermal power plant, a museum or exhibition. Some of these activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, pandemic-related restrictions, as well as availability of our partner organisations. SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing, hands-on activities, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, exploring the city and stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle or other excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances during activities and sightseeing. Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact. SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting (Northern Lights) workshop in the countryside near Reykjavík. During the time of the camp, Iceland Airwaves (November 6-9), an annual music festival is hosted in Reykjavik. There are performances from established and new artists in a host of different venues including art museums and record stores, among many others. More information at www.icelandairwaves.is. SEEDS does not provide passes for the festival, however there are a lot of free events all around town to attend.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Lage und Freizeit

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature. You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

During this camp, participants can share their love for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management, animal protection and sustainability, and you also love taking photographs or want to develop your photography skills, then this project is for you!

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Meeting time will be 18:00 (6:00 pm) on October 28 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

SEEDS Office Address: Grettisgata 3a

Weitere Infos

You will work about 35 hours per week, the work is varied and you will get the support of the staff. We work on : - Renovation of the buildings - Gardening - Organization and participation on the collective life (cooking, cleaning...) - Hosting groups and individuals (mostly in the summer) - Leading workcamps during the summer, you will receive a training for that. Two seminars organized by the french agency and one volunteering meeting with all the volunteers of Solidarités Jeunesses.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Le Créneau is located in Montcombroux Vieux Bourg in the Allier department, Auvergne region in the center of France. The site includes a main house, the two small towers, a farmyard, a vegetable garden, some othsome other workshops and it is sorrounded by the forest. It‘s a very isolated place, situated 6km from the “bigger“ village with shops. As a volunteer you will share a house with other volunteers! It is of high importance to commit into daily life, as in a big house-share, because the house will look like its inhabitants, it's your home sweet home for a few months!

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Solidarités Jeunesses (SJ) is a national movement of non-formal education and is composed of a National Secretary (Paris), and eight regional delegations across France. Our delegations host international volunteers throughout the year. Each regional delegation is unique, but all of the activities organized benefit the local community and share common ground: - gather people from different culture and social background to participate in social, ecological and cultural development. - contribute to the integration of people with fewer opportunities. Each project is dedicated to actions of solidarity and collective living. We believe that cultural exchanges are a key for personal learning and for the volunteer to experiment and undergo personal development.

Tondabayashi city is located in Osaka prefecture, 60km south of Osaka city. The house is
surrounded by many old houses and a bamboo forest.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This project is actively working for SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDGs 15 (Life
on Land), self-organized by NICE for the first time.
In 2011-13, the old couple (Kuroda san) kindly rent a traditional house in their land by free to NICE
for it office in Osaka, through the connection of the environmental group in this city with which
NICE has been co-organizing workcamps to protect satoyama forests since 1999. A staff and a few
LTVs lived there to do the daily work and also to maintain the bamboo forest next to the house.
Then, the office was moved to Osaka city and the husband passed away, but this year, the wife
decided to donate it to NICE to be used as its office again. So, we will start renovating the house to
be used as the office & volunteering/ training center.
Thus, 2022 is the 25th Anniversary for NVDA (Network for Voluntary Development in Asia) and 20th
Anniversary for Western NICE with Osaka office, so we will have the special events.

You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice, walking around and exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS’ social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible. In this project SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting (Northern Lights) workshop in the countryside near Reykjavík. This will take place during late evening and possibly into the night. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions; we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.
