Meeting and departure time to the camp will be 16:00 (4 pm) on 27 June from the meeting point at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. After the camp we will return to Reykjavík in the afternoon of 11 July.

Arbeit

In the Blue Mountains, the main tasks will be maintaining the slopes and preparing them for the next ski season. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning.
The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our local hosts. No previous experience is necessary, but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition. As it is outdoor work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as, depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. The landscape is raw and volunteers need to be motivated to work outdoors and to experience isolated mountain areas.
The camp happens around the summer solstice, when the sun hardly sets and the nights are almost as bright as the days. The bright nights are magical and staying awake and enjoying the beautiful surroundings is a unique experience. During the time of the camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun as there are 24 hours of light even if the sun does set for short periods of time.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the ski lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food, drinks, music and recipes from your country for the intercultural evening.

Lage und Freizeit

The skiing areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell are both about 30 minutes driving away from the city. The Blue Mountains are south-west of Reykjavík and Skálafell is located to the east of the city. Both areas have great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. Bláfjöll has 16 lifts and Skálafell has 4 lifts. The sports area in Skálafell is situated at an elevation between 380 and 700 m.
The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands. The highest mountain in the range reaches 600 m and in 1968 the district became a very popular skiing resort among Icelanders. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it’s important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

SEEDS volunteers will again be working with the Reykjavík municipality in two of the main outdoors skiing and recreational areas in the capital region, Bláfjöll (or the Blue Mountains) and Skálafell.
In Skálafell the ski slopes are turned into a bike park during summertime and mountain bike enthusiasts can nourish their passion. The main tasks will include renovation and maintenance work on the bike trails; mainly raking and scraping them up. Other possible tasks may be related to general cleaning of the area.

Treffpunkt

Meeting and departure time to the camp will be 16:00 (4 pm) on 27 June from the meeting point at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. After the camp we will return to Reykjavík in the afternoon of 11 July.

Weitere Infos

The locations of the camp are remote and isolated, even though still close to the city. Free-time activities in the surroundings are mostly hiking and trekking.

Anforderungen

Participation fee EUR 300 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid for on arrival. The fee includes the transport from Reykjavík to the campsite and back (on the first and last day of the camp) and the Reykjanes excursion with a visit to the Geldingadal volcano.
Meeting and departure time to the camp will be 16:00 (4 pm) on 27 June from the meeting point at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. After the camp we will return to Reykjavík in the afternoon of 11 July.
Volunteers shall be prepared for physical outdoors work and should bring good working shoes and clothes. In the mountains, the weather can change quickly and drastically. Even if it is summer, the weather can be cold or rainy. We recommend bringing good walking shoes/boots, warm and/or waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) as most of the tasks and activities take place outside.
Other excursions (Golden Circle, South Shore, Hot River Hike, Vesturland Trip or Snaefellsnes) can be arranged at discount fares for SEEDS participants in case there is additional free time after work or during the weekends.
English will be the language in the camp; basic conversational skills are needed.

ARRIVAL: VALENCIA-AIRPORT (VLC) on 02/07 from 16:00 to 18:00 The camp leaders will pick up the volunteers from the airport. Our team will be at the airport after 17:00 so it's not possible to meet the participants before that 17:00. DEPARTURE: Please organise your departure after 11 am on 12/07. Our team will take all the volunteers to the Valencia Airport at 09:00 am.

Arbeit

The work has environmental and constructional tasks. The idea is to help renovate a house which will serve as a volunteering center in the future and to establish environmental-friendly and sustainable agriculture in the gardens of the center.
The Casa Jazmín is recently renovated but there are still some pending tasks to complete it. Volunteers will carry out some basic tasks like painting, throwing out extra materials and organise spaces. But the main focus will be creating an ecological garden that will be a start of a new ecological project. This might include planting new plants, harvesting mandarins or other fruits and processing them to a jam and distributing to the local community.

There may be some other similar tasks which will require creativity and hand crafts.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in a volunteer house, with three rooms with several bunkbeds and bathrooms. They will share rooms with four to six other volunteers. The house includes a nice kitchen in which the volunteers will cook for themselves in the guidance of the camp leaders.
Sheets need to be brought by the volunteer, sleeping bags are not necessary.

Lage und Freizeit

Sanet is a small town in the southwest of Spain close to Dénia (communidad de Valencia). It lays in the beautiful countryside, surrounded by hills which are great for hiking - there are a lot of hiking trails to discover. There is a local swimming pool available and Dénia is only 5 minutes by cars.
The house is located right in the middle of town, so there are great opportunities to interact and socialize with the locals and to truly experience the Spanish countryside.
Furthermore, the volunteers can make excursions to Ondara and El Vergel, local towns close to Sanet. The surrounding villages like Benimelli and Ràfol d'Almunia can also be visited. There will also be day trips to the beach which is about 15 minutes by car from Sanet.

EN: The aim of the workcamp is to restore a wall on the "Promenade des Capucins". This is a great opportunity for you to learn about masonry and dry stone techniques. You will first have to clean the wall, and the finishing touches. It will also be necessary to raise part of the wall and make a door inside it. This will enable people to go from the path to the garden. You will have the opportunity to sort the stones according to their uses, to cut them and to arrange them to give a new youth to the wall, and then to cover the whole with a plaster. The goal: complete the restoration of the wall for the delight of local inhabitants and tourists!

EN: The accommodation is indoors, in a former leisure centre, with dormitories for 3/4 persons equipped with mattresses. Toilets and showers are also available, and you will have to share them. In addition, a kitchen is nearby the time-off area. You will have the best comfort possible in a bucolic setting since the accommodation is located close to a river. All aspects of community life (shopping, meal preparation, cleaning) will be managed by volunteers, based on a system that you will have decided upon together (e.g. use of schedules, constitution of pairs, etc.). You will be assisted in this task by a group leader. The aim: that each volunteer is an actor/actress of his/her stay in the respect of others and community life.

EN: Saint-Mihiel is located in the upper valley of the Meuse, a river that runs through the town. Saint-Mihiel has recently been awarded the label "Petite cité de caractère" (a special label for typical and distinctive cities). This label aims to value the towns with a remarkable architectural and historical heritage. The town is full of treasures to be discovered, especially the splendid mansions of Renaissance period (18th and 19th century), a famous artistic heritage enhanced by the students of the school of sculpture of Ligier Richier, or an exceptional Benedictine library who hides treasures of French literature old from the 8th century. The proximity to historical sites and especially Verdun makes it interesting to discover the relic of the past and the first world war history. In the heart of a rural and green region, the location is perfect for hiking and outdoor activities (climbing, canoeing, kayaking ...). Your campleaders and our partners will be pleased to take you to discover this exceptional heritage!

ENGLISH: The town of Saint-Mihiel has been working for several years to enhance its rich and diverse heritage. The town has two exceptional sites: Les Roches and Les Capucins. On the site of "Les Roches", 7 massive rocks also called "Les Dames de Meuse" (The Ladies of Meuse), take center stage over the city. To promote the site to all users, two projects took place in 2019 and 2020. Volunteers restored a dry-stone wall which is located around the site. This year, you will be working on the site of "La promenade des Capucins": it is a place of walk made of multiple terraced gardens, between which meander several paths and staircases.
The workcamps in Saint-Mihiel are always great experiences to live: the elected representative of the city who accompanies the workcamps himself participated to workcamps in his youth and the good memories that he keeps of them naturally led him to develop this type of projects in the municipality!

This camp will take place in Baixo Vouga Lagunar, in two areas of the Estarreja municipality, both of high ecological and social value. BioRia is a network of nature trails, a paradise for birdwatching, integrated in a Natura 2000 site. In Canelas, the LUSITANICA project has been running since 2016, aiming to convert a degraded area into a model forest for nature conservation and fire prevention, as well as to rebuild heritage buildings: an abandoned water mill and a historic fountain ( Fonte dos Namoricos ) which is very degraded. It is an area much cherished by the population, but it requires a major intervention to return to being the social dynamic pole it was in the past. This project integrates environmental and social interventions promoting sustainability as a whole

Meeting time will be 18:00 (6:00 pm) on 5 July at SEEDS Office in Reykjavik. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Arbeit

This camp allows participants to learn about global and local environmental issues, through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks.
These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the abovementioned organisations or organised solely by SEEDS. We aim to also involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will also learn how to plan and do their own trash hunting projects back home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:
A day trip combining a guided tour to the Hellisheiði power station, a trash hunt in the Blue Mountains area; and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe.
A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.
Furthermore, participants may be able to visit the recycling centre SORPA, where a tour of the facilities and a lecture regarding waste management in Reykjavik will be provided. The mentioned activities are dependent on conditions such as weather, pandemic-related restrictions, as well as availability of our partner organisations.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walk medium distances during the cleanups, as during other activities and sightseeing. As part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the changeable weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities planned.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with a kitchen, showers, and a washing machine. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions. Participants will sleep in shared rooms or dormitories. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the international evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Lage und Freizeit

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Environmentally Aware & Trash Hunting project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS works with The Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coast cleaning; Sea Shepherd Iceland, an organisation dedicated to defend, conserve and protect the oceans; Whales of Iceland, an exhibition of life size models of whales and porpoises aiming at educating about their lives and human impact on their existence, and SORPA, the organisation in charge of waste collection & management in the Reykjavík area.

Treffpunkt

Meeting time will be 18:00 (6:00 pm) on 5 July at SEEDS Office in Reykjavik. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Arbeit

The work will take place in different villages in the Ore Mountains region. Work will include activities, such as whitewashing walls, painting and cutting boards, landscaping, cleaning the garden or adjacent areas, creating texts for the association, preparation of cultural meeting for the public. The work will usually take place near the place of accommodation or within walking distance. The transfer between the individual host organizations is included in the workcamp schedule and it is possible to walk or cycle to the next location (approx. 12 km away). You can come to the workcamp on your own (mountain) bike, or use bicycle transport in combination with a train or bus connection (trains operate only on weekends and public holidays). We will provide several mountain bikes for the needs of the workcamp. We recommend participants to take older clothes to work and be equipped for colder, mountain weather, including sturdy shoes and raincoats.

Study part: You can participate in an upcycling workshop, an expert lecture on local and regional history, a meeting with the community for a barbecue, etc. In case of interest, we welcome the initiative of volunteers to organize an international evening or a cultural festival for the public, for which we will provide them with support and facilities. Participants are welcome to bring their recipes or food to share.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be in 3 different locations in brick buildings, you need your own sleeping bag and a mat. There will be separate showers and toilets, a shared kitchen and a meeting room. It is also possible to camp in all places, if the participants would prefer this accommodation option and are more comfortable on their own. You can bring your own tent or let us know and we will organise one for you (no need to travel with the tent the whole way). You will cook all the meals together as a group. The nearest restaurant is approx. 2 km away.
Accomodation location dates are: Prisecnice zije - Preßnitz lebt (Vysluni 198, Czech Republic)- 6.-10.7.2021; Cottage Krusnohorka (Kovarska, Czech Republic)- 10.-14.7.2021; Naturherberge Hammerwerk e. V. (Johstadt, Germany)- 14.-19.7.2021.

Lage und Freizeit

The workcamp will take place in three places, in the localities of Vysluni, Schmalzgrube and Kovarska, where the participants will gradually move (on foot, by bike). All the villages are located on the ridge of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory, Erzgebirge) at an altitude of about 800 m above sea level. The area is a Czech-German periphery from which many people move to larger cities and it is largely used for recreation. The population that lives permanently there belongs more to the older generation (with lower education), but recently, for example, young families with children have been moving there. In recent decades, however, the trend of emigration has prevailed on both sides of the border.

Leisure time: Sightseeing in the region, hiking in the Ore Mountains, swimming, an excursion to a nearby tourist attractions (museum of the Air Battle 1944), a steam train ride, a guided walk to explore the region and its traditions.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This workcamp is organized by NGO Anitkomplex in cooperation with NGO Prisecnice zije - Preßnitz lebt, NGO Naturherberge Hammerwerk and NGO Nadrazi Kovarska. Antikomplex seeks to prevent resurfacing historical traumas, which can be a source of populist manipulation that abuses historical traumas and baptisms to achieve political goals. In their activities, they focus mainly on the coexistence of Czech and German culture in the Czech lands and on critical knowledge and reflection on this coexistence. The aim of the workcamp is to support local actors in their environmental sustainable activities in the region and thus to strengthen democratic structures and active citizenship on the periphery (with the active participation of workcamp participants). The workcamp will take place in the Ore Mountains region at Czech-German borders in different locations of all three hosting NGOs.
In this workcamp, you are actively working for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities (UN SDG11) and Partnership for the Goals (UN SDG17).

Treffpunkt

Vysluni Nr. 198 (in Chomutov region). The meeting time is usually in the afternoon. Please note it takes about 2,5 hours to get there from Prague. The exact info will be provided in the infosheet.

Weitere Infos

The workcamp is especially suitable for participants who are interested in Czech-German topics or want to practice the language of their neighbours (Czech, German). We welcome the proactive approach of the participants and the sharing of their own skills or interests (like playing a musical instrument, sharing their talents). We can have a good time even without an excess of alcohol and drug use, and we expect a similar approach from the participants.

Anforderungen

Due to current travel restrictions we only accept volunteers from Europe, who do not need visa to travel to Czech Republic. Participation fee: Due to limited outgoing resources of INEX-SDA, we kindly ask participants to contribute 25 EUR towards the costs of general incoming administration of our workcamps. The fee will be collected upon arrival. Please note that this fee does not directly contribute to the workcamp budgets.

Lage und Freizeit

A real eagle's den, from where it overlooks the Nartuby gorges in the upper Var department, Châteaudouble has retained its authentic medieval appearance.
Châteaudouble name comes from the presence of two Middle Age castles, each of them located on a riverside of the Nartuby. Only the remains of the Tower, a square keep, dating from the 12th century, which overlooks the village, remain today.
Perched on its narrow plateau, Châteaudouble is a village that invites you to a casual discovery of its alleys, wandering between the houses and climbing up to the ruins of the castle, on the plateau of Sainte Anne.
Leisure activities:

  • Visits and walks in the village
  • Swimming in streams and gorges
  • Hiking
  • Sport, traditional balls game called “pétanque” etc. We will try to organize an climbing trip for beginners or an outdoor activity with a local association
  • Participation in the village festivities
As the commune is isolated with little public transport, most of leisure activities will take place on site.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Châteaudouble is a medieval commune with a very rich heritage; some places are designed national heritage sites. Very dynamic and invested in the development of its town, its historical and natural heritage, several projects are currently underway in the village. This is a partnership with the commune of Châteaudouble for the second year. Our current project is part of a development plan for the Sainte Anne area, on the heights of the village. It will become an open-air theater with stone terraces and dressing rooms for artists. It will be in the middle of old streets made of stones called “calades”, dry-stone walls and also an old chapel. Thanks to your commitment on our project we will have the chance to restore and enhance this magnificent site together for the benefit of the population and tourists.

Weitere Infos

Remember to bring clothes and shoes for work and hiking. Nights can be cold, so bring a good warm sleeping bag. To avoid mosquito bites, remember to bring mosquito repellent and long-sleeves and covering clothes for the evenings. As we are in an area where it can be very warm during the day, bring a hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a small backpack and water bottles.
As the village is far from the meeting place and has no public transport, it is imperative to be on time at the meeting point!
For the public events, you can bring a few traditional things from home that are easy to carry with you.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
