Brief description:ADVIT Moldova is a non-political, non-profit, non-governmental organization, started by and for youngpeople, to involve Moldovan young people, with and without professional experience, into programmes atnational and international levels in the fields of education, culture, ecology, historical heritage protection and helping disadvantaged people, by contributing to the development of a more peaceful society, to thedecrease of social injustice.Main aims and Activities:Generally speaking, we identify three lines of action:- To coordinate volunteer/exchange projects and youth exchanges within the framework of EU Youth inAction Programme, FONDs, programme of the German government Weltwaertes, and ICYE regularprogramme;- To organize international youth workcamps in Moldova;- Develop non-formal education through seminars, training, study visits, workcamps, workshops.

Volunteer skills:The volunteer should be creative and motivated to work in a dynamic international atmosphere. S/he shouldalso be diligent and reliable and willing to learn local language. Volunteer tasks and Role:Proposed activities for the volunteer are: to keep and develop collaboration with other NGOs and public institutions; to maintain and update our web page; to encourage and promote local volunteering; to help in organizing conferences, workshops for medical professionals and other eventsrelated to 26 June (International Day in Support of Survivors of Torture) - with main topic -the medico-social rehabilitation of the torture victims; to help in editing reports, informative materials; to help developing social contacts with our beneficiaries by organizing thematicworkshops, discussions or simply daily conversations. To organize cultural activities, e.g.: cultural evenings, film festivals with torture subjects. Handmade crafts: making candles, bags, cards, handmade jewellery. Brief description:The Rehabilitation Center of Torture Victims Memoria (RCTV Memoria ) is a non-governmental, nonprofit,apolitical and independent organization, having the status of public institution, was established on 12November 1999 and registered at the Ministry of Justice on 7 December 1999, We have 10 full time and 3 part time employees and 1 local volunteer.Our main activities are the following:1. Medico-social rehabilitation: providing free of charge medical, psychological, informational and legalassistance;2. Prevention of torture: organizing conferences, workshops and other events with main topic - themedico-social rehabilitation of the torture victims, as well as any other kind of the activities with scientific,legal and humanitarian character, inclusively taking part in similar actions;3. Information and Advocacy: elaborating and editing of the own publications, reports and informativematerials;4. Improving knowledge of the Center s staff members: organizing and participation at various nationaland international events;5. Developing partnerships with relevant organizations and institutions: participations as an activemember in various local and international alliances and networks in order to achieve efficiently the objectivesof our organization.

This center has children from 6-18 years and has 28 beneficiaries at the moment. On the papershould have 20 with mental disability and 20 from the community. The kids go to school and after midday the staff works individually with the kids. There are 6 staff members. The center is closed in August but in the summner they have more kids that are coming to center. The kids havemany talents and the staff members try to encourage it. A very friendly staff. They do not speak English.

WORK: Experienced carpenters, roofers, plumbers, painters and other tradesmen needed for rebuilding homes in the flood-damaged Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Unskilled volunteers will be trained by skilled staff. All aspects of home rebuilding will be addressed, from roofing to finish carpentry. 5-day week of full work days. Medium-term volunteers provide free labor to neighborhood residents, so they can return home after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Isaac. Work can be difficult and it is hot in New Orleans! STUDY THEME: Carpentry, construction, community building.

ACCOMMODATION: Housing is in dormitory style bunkrooms. No smoking in the house. No drugs allowed. No alcohol allowed in the house or on the property. Vegetarian meals available.

SPECIAL REMARKS: VFP Motivation Form required. Volunteers must have intermediate spoken and comprehension of English in order to ensure workplace safety. VFP does not provide insurance for volunteers on this project, LowerNine general liability insurance will cover volunteers only while they are working. In case of a natural disaster volunteers will be required to make their own arrangements to evacuate the city. Multiple volunteers serve at all times in this location. EXTRA FEE: All volunteers are asked to contribute a $55/person project fee, which helps to cover expenses associated with project coordination and supervision, as well as materials, fuel, safety equipment, insurance and tool and vehicle maintenance. If you choose to stay in our volunteer house, there is a $150/person/week housing fee to help offset the costs of three meals a day, house utilities and maintenance as well as project expenses. This fee drops to $50/week after 3 weeks, and is eliminated entirely if you stay with us beyond 3 months. The most you would pay ist $1,005 for three months. After that, any additional time with us is free.

Volunteers will assist in a variety of tasks including but not limited to: administrative support in the office, helping with fundraising activities, supporting the residential community by helping with planning and participating in house activities and Residential Advisor duties (See below). The type of work and number of hours varies but is usually 4 – 6 hours a day. Volunteers live on site and participate in all house activities including evening meals and all outside activities. Resident Advisor position requires a confident individual who will be on duty evenings and every other weekend. There primary function will be to contact staff if there is an emergency, lock doors at night, assist residents when needed and participate in house functions. Office Assistant will be working with staff on all of the day to day operations of a small non-profit organization. Tasks include: clerical work; student recruiting activities; fund raising activities; general administrative duties; as well as participating in all of the residential group activities. The average work day might consist of approximately 4-6 hours of office work. NOTE: Minimum commitment for this project is 3 months.

Dismas House operates a “dry house” policy. This means that no recreational drugs or alcohol is tolerated in the house or premises. Volunteers will live together with former prisoners in a lovely Victorian House located in Hartford, Vermont. Volunteers may have to share a room. All meals, shared bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, hot showers, linens & towels are provided. Some group activities and sightseeing is included

We are in close walking distance to great fishing and swimming locations. Volunteer’s have ample time off to travel on their own but are always included in house outings and activities. Previous volunteers have been to Montreal, Boston, New York, to rodeos and climbed mountains as well as toured Vermont’s famous Ben & Jerry’s!

Volunteers are welcomed and live as part of a household where they help with the running of the home they also enjoy. During the work week they join a team on the land, bakery, food preserving kitchen, construction/woodworking, or crafts, facilitating, learning, and helping the team reach their goal. Weekends and evenings are filled with social and vocational opportunities. The type of volunteer work is matched to the individual’s tastes and strengths to optimize the most fulfilling experience for all. The hours vary and follow a farm-life structure with some early mornings and late nights in the growing season and a creative, co operative, and flexible attitude to social opportunities and travel to best suit everyone. Coworker position requires a motivated person who enjoys being part of a team. Practical idealism, an appreciation of the outdoors, and a wish to make a real difference in the world helps! Previous agricultural experience or experience of people with disabilities is not necessary, but an open mind and a wish to learn definitely is.

Volunteers live together family- style in homes lead by long term volunteers in the community. Each person has their own bedroom. All meals, and use of amenities (computer, wifi, toiletries, house phone, workshops) is included. We can insure drivers over 21 with a clean driving record to use our vehicles.

Lage und Freizeit

We live in the middle of a conservation area with hiking and biking trails, waterfalls and a pristine river to canoe and kayak. Our friendly small town offers shopping, coffee shops, parks, community theater, swimming pool, gym, basic amenities, and local festivals. Museums, concerts, theaters and events can be accessed an hour away in Minneapolis/St Paul. While there is no public transport, people over 21 with a clear driving record can often drive our vehicles and those who can’t are offered rides and use of bikes for shorter distances. We make it possible for volunteers to camp, visit Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, (4-7 hours away) and Lake Superior depending on their interest and enjoy connecting them to opportunities see more of the USA in and outside the tourist areas. Year-long volunteers can expect to have about 3 weeks of vacation offered through the year.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES: Recreation includes house activities and many festivals and events in area. Volunteers will participate in house outings including baseball games, hikes, camping. Time off for travel may be approved.

WORK: A good deal of participation in various components of fundraising activities, representing Dismas at speaking engagements on college campuses and at civic organizations, working with clothing and food donations and support of the residential community by participating in house group activities. The average daily work commitment expected is up to 5 -6 hours per day, however, the hours are varied and non-traditional, and may include some weekends and evenings. As a resident of the house, volunteers will live as an equal to and with the same expectations as the former prisoner residents: The volunteer is not at Dismas to act in a counseling or other related capacity. STUDY THEME: Reintegration into society from prison. NOTE: Minimum commitment for this project is 3 months.

LOCATION: Rutland is a beautiful small city in the Green Mountains with nearby lakes and streams, population 17,500. Dismas also has houses in Burlington, Winooski and Hartford, Vermont. LEISURE ACTIVITIES: Recreation includes gym and rock climbing memberships with other residents, as well as house group activities (bowling, hiking, camping, fishing, etc.) which are offered. Snow skiing is nearby. Time off for travel may be approved.

Anforderungen

SPECIAL REMARKS: Absolutely NO alcohol or drug use permitted during the stay; presence at the evening meal Monday through Friday is required, as is presence at the weekly house meeting one evening during the week; no smoking inside the house; no intimate relationships between residents permitted. Volunteers must be 24+, able to speak and understand a better than basic level of English, and have basic computer skills. A 90-day/3 month commitment is required, but volunteers may choose to stay for up to 3 additional months following the initial 3 month period if invited to do so. VFP MOTIVATION FORM AND TELEPHONE INTERVIEW REQUIRED. VFP does not provide insurance for volunteers on this project! Dismas offers liability insurance only – Volunteers are responsible for their own health/accident/travel insurance. Only one international volunteer serves at any time. Volunteers must indicate the dates they are able to serve.

Arbeit

Volunteers will assist in a variety of tasks including but not limited to: administrative support in the office, helping with fundraising activities, supporting the residential community by helping with planning and participating in house activities and Residential Advisor duties (See below). The type of work and number of hours varies but is usually 4 – 6 hours a day. Volunteers live on site and participate in all house activities including evening meals and all outside activities. Resident Advisor position requires a confident individual who will be on duty evenings and every other weekend. There primary function will be to contact staff if there is an emergency, lock doors at night, assist residents when needed and participate in house functions. Office Assistant will be working with staff on all of the day to day operations of a small non-profit organization. Tasks include: clerical work; student recruiting activities; fund raising activities; general administrative duties; as well as participating in all of the residential group activities. The average work day might consist of approximately 4-6 hours of office work.

Volunteers will stay in a comfortable, modern dormitory with comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, large dining table and common area. Rooms are generous in size and volunteers will most likely share their room with other members of the Volunteers for Peace group. Volunteers will cook meals as a group. Bring some recipes from home to share, and let us know if you have any dietary needs.

Lage und Freizeit

Volunteers will live together with former prisoners in a lovely Victorian House located in Burlington, Vermont. Volunteers may have to share a room. All meals, shared bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms, hot showers, linens & towels are provided. Some group activities and sightseeing is included. We are in close walking distance to the Historic “Church Street” area where there are shops and activities. There is always something going on in Burlington! Street Fairs, jazz festivals, parades, theater, and many other special events. There is a bike path that goes along the waterfront where you can run, bike, roller blade or just take a quiet walk. Volunteers will have ample time off to travel on their own. Previous volunteers have been to Montreal, Boston, New York, to rodeos and climbed mountains as well as toured Vermont’s famous Ben & Jerry’s!

Volunteers will assist in a variety of tasks including but not limited to: Assisting adults with developmental disabilities in their daily living activities in the home and managing crews in workplaces such as gardening, farming, cooking, food preserving, cleaning, woodworking, weaving, baking, or arts. The type of work and number of hours varies but is usually 5 – 10 hours per day. At least 5 hours per day will be spent in the workplace and another 3-5 hours per day in the home. Volunteers live on site and participate in all house activities including meals and all outside activities. Coworker position requires a confident individual who will be active in the homelife with others. This includes adults who have a range of abilities. Their primary function will be to make some common meals at home, clean common spaces, assist housemates when needed and participate in activities within the village. Some housemates may need help with bathing, oral hygiene, and other daily living activities. Coworkers will have workplaces to attend during the day.

Volunteers (Coworkers) will live together family style in homes within the community. Each person has their own bedroom. All meals, hot showers, toiletries, linens & towels are provided. There is a fleet of vehicles that each person with a driver’s license is welcome to use.

There is a rich social life within the community. During down time coworkers can be found doing yoga, group workouts, playing pool, canoeing, hiking the land, playing music/ singing, or going to the nearest town to see a movie at the theatre. Community members are able to go to larger cities on their days off. For year long Coworkers 3 weeks of vacation is offered.

Work in clubVolunteers are expected to support activities of the Listen Twice Conversational Club which lie within the multicultural education and cross-cultural learning activities as well as participate in the school s activities, communicate closely with teens and kids, co-operate with the In Down-Town teachers and staff, become the leaders of social or cultural or applied language and art or media projects for teens.Among the activities volunteers will carry on are:-Conducting the club sessions and being the leader of teenagers cross- or multicultural projects,-Assisting the teens and helping them with ideas for their educational projects within the In Down-Town curriculum framework,-Preparing and conducting the activities in the subject of the students projects, competitions, sub-projects or theme presentations,-Organizing team works, group discussions, excursions, informal study visits, tours, picnics, holiday events, some special events for the school s students, etc.-Developing new club trends and workshops,-Assisting in club s office work as well as in public promotion,-Helping in other required though relevant activities,-When needed assisting the kids during classes.The educational club work in multicultural issues is organized though three main club workshops- Handicrafts Club, Performing Arts Club, Micro Media Club, Adults Club, Special learning projects based on the study topics are held within each of them. Included among the activities for youth there can be amateur drama performances, making quizzes and presentations or debates on history, geography, culture or literature of Estonia and other European countries, producing piece of amateur art or handicraft, visits to different cultural and educational institutions, preparing and participation in other school s projects and events, etc.Volunteers are responsible for direct contacts with teens to provide educational club sessions of the mentioned workshops, evaluate regularly the progress of the project as well as be responsible for the Annual Exhibition Multicultural and Global Issues for Teens . The Conversational Club activities are educational but they are NOT regular language learning classes. The volunteers may only be asked to help building up a multicultural background in the class through games, discussions and group work. Volunteers are also expected to come to the project keeping in mind an idea for their personal projects to be realized within the project work. The personal project of the volunteer may include written set of leaflets, club album, creating a radio club station or a website, organize a drama tour or recording a film involving teenagers into these activities, or others. The personal volunteer s project always depends on the volunteer s interests and skills.

AccommodationIn the specially rented furnished apartments in the residential area of Tallinn. Apartment is shared with other volunteers or school teachers. All facilities are provided. No need for a sleeping bag (unless you want to travel in your free time), bed linens are provided. Accommodation is provided for free and food money will be given by the hosting project by the end of each service month. Monthly card for local transport in Tallinn will be provided as well.

Hosting projectThe Language school In Down-Town is a well-known school in Tallinn, Estonia. In this school both youngsters and adults learn different languages: Estonian, English, French, German and Spanish. Except of language lessons students also have chance to attend Conversational Club Listen Twice , where they can practice their language skills, participate in workshops, communicate with other kids and volunteers. Volunteers work with any kid or teen of Tallinn city who wants to join the club activities on the regular or time-to-time visit basis. However, the majority of club members are the junior students of the NGO Language School In Down-Town who belong to three main target groups- children of 7-10 years old, teens aged 11-16 and young adults. About 100 school children of Tallinn city may attend different club sessions or activities during the week and also on Saturdays. The majority belongs to the Russian-speaking community. Project activities take place in the venue of The Language School In Down-Town .

Special requirementsYou have to be really motivated to work with kids. Experience in work with children is an advantage. All interesting ideas of activities for kids, games etc. are welcomed. We expect active volunteers with excellent communication skills, good knowledge of history and culture of their country and ability to present it. Arbeit

AC organizes Kids camps every August for 2weeks. It is non-programing kids camps. It means that kids make all programs by themselves during the camp. Volunteers will prepare, manage and support Kids. Volunteers also support AC events, for example, Oze (One of the famous national parks in Japan) nature school, cooking events, etc.

During the kids camps, volunteers will sleep in a tent with kids. Before/after the camp, volunteers will stay at a mountain house called Yamanoie. All basic facilities are provided. There is wifi there. Cooking by volunteers self. During the kids camps, cook with kids.

*Location: Mountain area located around 150 km from Tokyo. 81% of the village is occupied by the forest and there are 5 clean rivers that are going through. It is located near Oze national park. *Other activities: Various enjoyable programs with kids, exchange parties, etc.

They work on the theme of making a good relationship between nature and human beings. Their aim is to make people know different faces of nature…beautiful nature, strong nature, strict nature, and generous nature, etc. As a bridge between people and nature, they organize a lot of outdoor activities, like 2 weeks summer camp for kids, nature walking, nature watching, outdoor sports, etc.
