Work

Volunteers will help with washing windows and preparing the spaces for the upcoming theatre season. Those who enjoy gardening will also have the opportunity to take care of the herb garden. The work is not physically demanding.

Accomodation and food

You will stay together in the former parish house, sleeping on beds. There are 3 rooms available. Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. The accommodation includes a fully equipped kitchen, fridge, washing machine, and Wi-Fi. There are 3 toilets and 2 showers.
Meals will be provided on Saturday (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and Sunday (breakfast and lunch).

Location and leisure

Zubrnice is a picturesque village in the České středohoří region, near Ústí nad Labem. The main highlight is the Skanzen Zubrnice (Open-Air Museum), the only museum of folk architecture in northern Bohemia, preserving original timbered houses, a school, a church, and a historic functional railway station. The surroundings offer beautiful hiking routes to abandoned villages and viewpoints from Buková hora, with views over the České středohoří hills and the Elbe River valley. Mobile phone signal is available in the area.
On Saturday, if the weather is nice, we can light a campfire. On Sunday afternoon, there will be an option to visit the local open-air museum and see unique traditional timbered houses. Another option is a hike to Buková hora.

Project hosted by

“Centrum Vincence Zahradníka z.s.” is a local association renovating a former parish house. With the regular help of volunteers, they are gradually transforming the place into a community centre, which already serves as a space for amateur theatre groups. The local partner aims to preserve the legacy of the former parish priest, philosopher, and writer Vincenc Zahradník, who lived here at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The project contributes to SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Additional comments

The local partner will introduce you to the life story of the former parish priest, philosopher, and writer Vincenc Zahradník, who was displaced after the end of World War II. There will be space for discussion about this difficult historical period and the broader story of the Czech Sudetenland.
