Intercultural and Language (ICL) – Songkhla: Learning and sharing
intercultural experiences and language remain the main purpose.
Volunteers will share and exchange culture, language, and knowledge
with the local community and students in schools.

English, as a global language, and intercultural learning are important for
local Thai people to understand and become global citizens. English is
also a gateway to opening minds and accessing knowledge. The project,
created by VSA Thailand in 2011, has been successful for eight years.
Former volunteers provided opportunities for children in schools and the
local community. Many local people improved their English skills
through exchanges with international volunteers. At the very least, they
tried to speak English more and became more confident in interacting
and working with foreigners, even if they were not fluent in the
language.

Moreover, volunteers’ activities had a significant impact on the local
community, which became more welcoming and trusting of foreigners.
Local people had the chance to learn about, accept, and adopt different
cultural ways of life.

Songkhla is a VSA base, and many schools here require international
volunteers to teach. Therefore, volunteers can expect to work in rural
schools that are ready to accommodate them during their stay.

Project hosted by

The Mae Hong Son College, under Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, was established to expand access to higher education in one of Thailand’s most remote provinces. The college is located in Pang Mu Subdistrict, Mueang District, Mae Hong Son, on a 109-rai (approximately 43 acres) plot of land. This land was originally used by 56 local residents of Ban Thung Kong Mu village, who voluntarily donated it for educational purposes. Due to limited funding, development began gradually with support from university leadership, faculty, and students who helped fence the area and prepare it for future use.

Project Aims and Activities:
The primary aim of the host project is to improve access to quality higher education for youth in Mae Hong Son province and to support community development through education and applied research. Regular activities include academic teaching, student development programs, and community engagement initiatives.

Accomodation and food

We will have a cooking team (that you can join). They will provide volunteers with 3 meals a day. The food will be vegan for the whole stay - No meat is allowed in the temple.
We will all stay in the compound of Kong Por Neua monastery. There is a communal building and you will be provided with simple sleeping equipment like thin mats, pillows and blankets. We will sleep in communal rooms (1 for females and 1 for males). These rooms will be used in the day time for the camp so we will need to pack up our sleeping stuff every morning. If you need more privacy, we advise you to bring your own tent that you can pitch in the yard.
In December, it will be winter: the temperature can be as low as 10 degrees in the morning so volunteers are encouraged to prepare additional winter equipment such as warm clothes, hats, socks, gloves, and scarves. The day time should be warmer.

Location and leisure

The place is very isolated in the hills of Chiang Mai country side. The Karen communities have a very specific rich culture. We will spend some time to visit the village and the forest around the place.

Project hosted by

Immerse yourself in the fresh winter environment of a Northern Hill tribe at Kong Por Neua, a remote Karen community from Chiang Mai province. Staying at the local temple, volunteers will help to organize an important Buddhist ceremony there, a full day of activities with students at the local School and a 3 days-Universal Moral & Ethics Camp at the temple (our living place) with Karen children, youth and adults. Even with the presence of a few translators, volunteers should be ready to practice communication in a multi languages environment (Karen, Thai and English). We’ll create together activities to support values of morals, ethics, international peace, culture exchange, solidarity, team building, leadership... The workcamp is co-organized by the local monk Too Neuk, the foundation Watcharaparamita and Dalaa association. Volunteers may help with vegan cooking, organization of activities, such as games for adults and children, take parts in the discussions and share their own culture. The last day will be dedicated to local culture and forest discovery/preservation awareness together with our hosts.

Intercultural and Language (ICL) – Nakhon Ratchasima, learning and sharing the
intercultural and language still are the main purpose. Volunteers will share and exchange
culture, language, and knowledge with the local community and students in the school.
English as the global language and intercultural learning are important for local Thai people
to understand and be for global citizens. English is also the gateway to open mind and

years. Former volunteers came to give the opportunity for children in schools and the local

international volunteers, or at least they try to speak the English language more and dare
to face and work with the foreigner even though they cannot speak English. Moreover,
volunteers’ activities impacted the local community. They used to stay lively and trusty
with the foreigner. Local people have a chance to learn, accept, and adopt the ways of life

Work

The main work is to harvest rice and watermelons
Harvesting rice by hand: The rice has been replanted in late August- September. The field are flooded for the first 2 months during the raining season then November and December are the start of the dry season. The rice will be ready at that time and the farmers will cut the top part of the plant where the rice seeds are located. This is the work that the volunteers will experience. It’s usually very hot in the field and one must protect oneself from the sun.

We will have more cultures exchanges/discovery programs and activities with children on the weekends.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will stay at the local people house. You will be provided, a small mattress, a pillow and a mosquito net. It’s good if you can bring your own light blanket/sleeping bag/bed sheet while the temperature will be around 25 in the night. The living condition is very simple, you may find it completely different than in your country. There are basic toilets and showers and a kitchen where volunteers will cook by themselves.

Location and leisure

Sukorn Island (Koh Sukorn) is a small island situated in Palian district, Trang province. The island covers an area of 14 sq km. Most of people are Muslim. The common occupations of the villagers are fishing, rubber tapping, as well as agriculture; growing paddy, watermelons, traditional way of growing vegetables, and keeping livestock. In general, the villagers are very generous and still remain the culture of supporting and sharing with each other. Furthermore, they also believe that paddy and agriculture is the main food stability of the village.

Project hosted by

Koh Sukorn is a preserved island of Andaman Sea in South Thailand. During this work camp, we will have the chance to join hands with the community members to preserve the local agriculture while we can learn about their way of life. Moreover, we will be creating activities and games with children and young people to open their views and let them learn about international culture together with the volunteers. We will need your creativity and ideas of games and activities that will create a multi-cultural atmosphere for them

Project hosted by

The main goal of this project is fostering intercultural exchange and language learning. Volunteers
share and exchange culture, language, and knowledge with the local community and school
students.
English, as a global language, plays a vital role in preparing local Thai people to become global
citizens. It opens doors to new knowledge and perspectives. Since its inception by VSA Thailand in
2011, the project has successfully empowered children and local communities to improve their
English skills and gain confidence in interacting with international volunteers.
This cultural exchange has also strengthened relationships between locals and foreigners,
encouraging mutual understanding and adaptation to diverse ways of life.
Songkhla, as a VSA base, has many schools eager to host international volunteers, primarily in
rural areas, for meaningful teaching and cultural exchange during the volunteers’ stay.

Work

The main role of the volunteers is to conduct non-formal English classes and organize fun activities for students aged 7 to 15. Volunteers will work in groups of at least 2–3 per class, with around three classes each day. In addition, extra activities will be arranged for the students during their free time and/or in the evening.
Volunteers will also take part in community activities, such as sports competitions and potluck gatherings, which help strengthen relationships between the school, students, and local residents.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will sleep in the classroom. There will be only some yoga mats, pillows, and mosquito nets. We suggest you bring your own sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, or another yoga mat. It’s ok if you don’t bring any of those, but you need to be sure that you will be comfortable in such condition.
There are basic toilets, showers and a kitchen at the school canteen. The teachers and villagers are willing to help you to cook as well. Local people eat rice (or noodles) 3 times a day with side dishes like curries, omelets, local leaves and vegetables. Volunteers will be welcome to cook their own food using the ingredients available there. (No oven, only a gas and woks or pans).

Location and leisure

Ban Khuan Mit School is located in South Thailand, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, about 20 kilometers from the district town of Cha-uat. The school lies on a high plain with a hot and humid climate. The surrounding community is religiously diverse, with both Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims living together peacefully. It is also situated close to a mountainous area with a big dam and a beautiful waterfall, at the border area of three provinces: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Trang, near a local well-known rafting attraction. You are given 2 free day(s) during the 2 weeks, and plenty of free time in the evening that can be spent on daily meetings, or building group dynamic by playing various games, discussion. Personal expenditure on camp holiday is covered by volunteers themselves.

Project hosted by

After a successful first 2 days English camp at the small rural School of Ban Khuan Mit in July 2025, we decided to renew the experience with bringing international volunteers for a full workcamp of 11 days. The English teacher Sakina, initiator of the project, is a former DaLaa international volunteer. She managed to involve Mr. Touchide Jutiprapak, the school director, the other teachers, and even a part of the local community of this remote area of South Thailand to welcome the volunteers and bring a wonderful experience to the students. The main focus is to provide an open window to the world through English language activities; the immersion in the community will be very present.

Directions to meeting point

You can reach Hat Yai from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore by plane, train and bus. (There are also planes from Phuket, Udon Thani and Chiang Mai)

Requirements

The volunteers should be ready to stay in a local area, and to adapt to the local conditions with only basic facilities. Be prepared that very few local people are able to speak English. Volunteers should be able to be with the kids, and prepare some games and materials for teaching.

English is also the gateway to open mind and
knowledge. The project was created by VSA Thailand and has been successful for eight
years. Former volunteers came to give the opportunity for children in schools and the local
community. Many local people improved their English skills through exchanging with
international volunteers, or at least they try to speak the English language more and dare
to face and work with the foreigner even though they cannot speak English. Moreover,
volunteers’ activities impacted the local community. They used to stay lively and trusty
with the foreigner. Local people have a chance to learn, accept, and adopt the ways of life
with the different cultures.
Ban Krogluek School is a primary school, there are about 10 teachers and 100 students from

Location and leisure

Mae Sot in Thailand's Tak Province Other activities - As this is only 7 days workcamp, there is no free day, so if the volunteers want to enjoy the sightseeing, they should do it before/ after the workcamp!

Project hosted by

This project is actively working for SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized together with DALAA (International Volunteers for Social Development Association), Bunkyo university in Japan and BMWEC (Burmese Migrant Workers' Education Committee). Mae Sot in Thailand's Tak Province hosts numerous migrant schools for children of migrant workers from Myanmar, providing education with support from NGOs and other organizations. Ensuring stable educational opportunities at these migrant schools is considered crucial for reducing the number of children involved in child labor or crime. However, access to education for these children is currently significantly impacted. This is due to increased migration caused by political and social unrest in Myanmar, coupled with the reduction of learning center activities and decrease in teachers resulting from COVID-19. This workcamp, in cooperation with the Hsa Thoo Lei Foundation and BMWEC (Burmese Migrant Workers' Education Committee), will implement exchange activities with children at migrant schools, educational programs, and life support programs.
