The workcamp will focus on restoring the mountain hut and its surroundings, while also supporting the organization of an annual May 1st music festival. Participants will engage in hands-on tasks, contributing to both the upkeep of the space and the logistics of a public event. The first part of the camp will involve a variety of maintenance activities, from artistic and painting projects to wood collection and manual work, allowing room for creativity and responding to the immediate needs of the site. The second part will focus on festival preparation, with participants helping in logistics, cooking, setting up the space, and organizing workshops. Volunteers will work for 7 hours a day, with two rest days during the project.

Logement et nourriture

Rifugio Cognolo is a charming mountain hut featuring three main areas: a fully equipped kitchen, a multipurpose room, and a covered patio. The hut is off the grid, with electricity provided by solar panels, and does not have Wi-Fi. Facilities include two bathrooms, one of which is an outdoor dry toilet, and solar-heated showers. The indoor spaces will be primarily used by staff for cooking and as shelter in case of rain, while volunteers will sleep in tents in the camping area surrounding the hut. Please note that, considering the season, it is essential to bring appropriate equipment, such as a thermal sleeping bag, to stay comfortable during colder nights. Volunteers will take an active role in managing the space, including cleaning and meal preparation, through organized cooking and cleaning shifts. They will have access to a pantry and will plan and prepare weekly menus, taking into account allergies, dietary preferences, and nutritional needs.

Situation, loisirs

Rifugio Cognolo sits at 1000m above sea level in the Sabine Mountains, near the village of Casperia. It is reachable by a moderately challenging 2.5 hour hike, offering volunteers the chance to fully immerse themselves in a setting far removed from everyday life, surrounded by beech forests and breathtaking mountain views. The camp is located in Bassa Sabina, about an hour away from Rome, a rural region defined by the striking contrast between rugged mountain ranges, gentle rolling hills, and the fertile plains of the Tiber River valley with olive groves, vineyards, and small hillside villages dotting the landscape.
Due to the relative isolation of the mountain hut, visits to Rome or other nearby towns will not be possible during the workcamp.

Partenaire

The camp is made in collaboration with the association ALA. Since 2009, ALA association has been working to develop the rural area where it is based, revitalizing the spaces it occupies. Over the years, it has transformed abandoned structures into vibrant community hubs, welcoming both locals and international youth, who have been an integral part of the renovation process. The mountains play a central role in the community, serving for years as a space of active work aimed at making them more accessible through trail cleaning and marking. Through non-formal education and a learning by doing approach, the association offers a place to explore and challenge ourselves, discover our limits, and celebrate our strengths.

Remarques

The camp takes place at 1000m, it is accessible by hiking and takes volunteers to immerse themselves in a dimension outside the usual. It requires a high sense of adaptation, the ability to disconnect from digital devices and an internet connection, desire to disconnect from everyday life to connect with a life more in relationship with the people one has around and nature. Be ready to become part of a local small community. Be open minded.
Please note that, considering the season, it is essential to bring appropriate equipment, such as a thermal sleeping bag, to stay comfortable during colder nights.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps. Food and accommodation are covered by the European Union. Transportation costs will be refunded according to the distance band rules of the programme. No fees are required. The workcamps are open for volunteers coming from ESC programme countries.

In addition, volunteers can contribute to the promotion and documentation of the project by taking photos and short videos, and creating social media content. Situation, loisirs

Milena is a small village in the province of Caltanissetta. The village is located in a rural mountainous context at 423 m above sea level. Like most remote Sicilian villages, it is served by a limited number of public transport services, so the organization of free time could be limited to visiting nearby places or organizing excursions out of town.

The organization mainly carries out artistic and cultural activities and realizes different projects to raise awareness in schools of all levels. The association was founded in 2015 in Milena, Sicily, by a group of local people with experience in volunteering and international mobility. The aim of the association is to encourage locals to be active in order to bring about the changes they want to see. The association represents a breakthrough for the locals and the territory where it is located, through their commitment and support. Its work contributes to the enrichment of Sicilian culture and territory. The NGO runs a space called Magazzino in Milena, which is used to promote cultural events, festivals, active participation and advocacy.

Volunteers can visit Verona city or other places nearby on their own costs. Verona can be reached by bus in about 40 min.

Partenaire

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence... The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market. Zero Mileage Garden: organic vegetable growing. Care and maintenance of the community s green spaces. Spending the day (activities and free time) with the people hosted on the site.

Situation, loisirs

The camp is based in Civita Castellana, a charming town of 15.000 inhabitants in Tuscia, about 65 km north of Rome. The surrounding area is rich in history and natural beauty, with many Etruscan archaeological sites and necropolises, volcanic crater lakes, hot springs, and picturesque towns and villages perched on top of tufa stone cliffs. The town itself has ancient roots dating back to the Etruscans, and its strategic location has made it an important stronghold throughout history. Volunteers during their free time can visit places such as Rome and Viterbo, easily reachable by public transport.

Partenaire

The workcamp is organized by Lunaria in collaboration with Il Pungiglione, a cooperative that supports the development of the local community through welfare services and “production-work” activities. Volunteers are expected to show responsibility, openness, respect for rules, people and spaces, and an adult, problem-solving attitude. Racist, sexist, violent behavior, drug use and alcohol abuse are strictly forbidden.
This project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps. Food and accommodation are covered by the European Union. Travail

In Agape there will be more volunteer teams and a group of guests (around 100 people total). The teams, with different tasks, cooperate to provide a service to the guests: a Camp. Your team will help the Resident Group (volunteers living here) in the daily tasks. More teams from other projects will help you. Another team, the Staff, will lead activities for the guest’s Camp.
Daily tasks divide in 4 sectors: Kitchen: Cook for the community! Taking care of lunch and dinner. You’ll work in a professional kitchen. Team of 8 people, listening to music and.. peeling potatoes;
Cleaning of communal areas: Preparing rooms for new arrivals. Taking care of outdoor areas. More teams of 4 people in different areas; Bar: Serving coffees and more to your friends during the coordinated common breaks; Service: Serve the breakfast for the community, prepare the hall for meals, and dry dishes. Our professional dishwasher does most of the dirty work!
Volunteers will work in 2-3 sectors during the camp, for 5-6 hours a day. There is one free day each 5 working days.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be accommodated within the center in shared rooms hosting 3-4 people. Rooms are generally gender-separated and furnished with single bunk beds. Bathroom facilities are shared and located close to the sleeping areas, ensuring easy access for everyone.
Meals are an important moment of community life at the center. Volunteers and guests eat together in the main dining hall, sharing both food and time. The menu is designed to accommodate different dietary needs and preferences, offering a varied selection that combines traditional Italian cuisine with international recipes. Breakfast follows a typical Italian style and is mostly sweet.
Within the center, volunteers can enjoy snacks and drinks at the bar, free Wi-Fi in the common areas, access to a washing machine, and a shared refrigerator reserved for volunteers.
A small town is located nearby and offers basic shops for everyday needs, although the local pharmacy is not open every day.

Situation, loisirs

Located in the heart of the Val Germanasca, in the Italian Alps, the center is a remarkable structure that reflects the character of its natural surroundings. Built from local stone and wood, carefully shaped by generations of volunteers, the building forms a large and welcoming house that harmonizes beautifully with the mountain landscape, preserving the authentic spirit of the valley. The area offers countless opportunities for hiking, with trails suitable for different levels and interests. The nearby town provides a variety of restaurants, cafés, and sports facilities, making it easy to relax or stay active during your free time. For those interested in culture and history, several local museums can be visited, and it is also possible to join a guided tour of the historic talc mines in the surrounding area.

Partenaire

The camp is organised by Lunaria in collaboration with the Waldensian Ecumenical Centre Agape.
Agape Centro Ecumenico is a social center that originated after World War II from the ideas of the Waldensian pastor Tullio Vinay in 1947. Its core values of reconciliation and reconstruction continue to shape the center’s identity and activities. The center promotes communal living, volunteer work, and international cooperation, supported by a worldwide community of volunteers who actively contribute to its mission.

Remarques

Volunteers will work individually among the staff and the other local volunteers in the different sectors.
Travel to Agape can be complicated, being in a very isolated place.

Volunteers will work with children aged 6 to 13 (Italian-speaking) at the village summer camp from Monday to Friday. The camp will focus on the theme of peace in different countries, culminating in a presentation for the final show. The local volunteer team will provide translation support for the international volunteers, but flexibility is encouraged. To enrich the experience of cultural exchange, volunteers are invited to discuss topics such as peace and conflict in the history of their countries and to teach the children typical songs or dances from their own traditions.
Once a week, the volunteers will visit a retirement home to present their countries and share their cultures. An alternative activity will take place in a protected area, where volunteers will help cut bamboo to safeguard endemic vegetation.
Additionally, some families from Carignano will host volunteers for home dinners, offering a chance to experience local culture and daily life firsthand.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will be hosted in an ancient building under restoration with beds, communal bathrooms with 2 showers and hot water and a kitchen. Bedrooms are provided with 4 to 6 beds per room. The volunteers are responsible for the cleaning and cooking, except for lunch during the working days, since they will eat pasta together with the kids of the summer camp. Food is provided by the host organization.
Volunteers must be equipped with their own sleeping bag (or bed sheets), pillowcase and towels.

Situation, loisirs

The town of Carignano, with a population of around 9,000, is situated in the countryside on the left bank of the Po River, approximately 20 km from Turin, within the River Regional Park. Its historic centre reflects a typical Piedmontese style, featuring a medieval core with archways and a baroque cathedral. The surrounding area is rich in both architectural and natural attractions.
In their free time, volunteers can enjoy a variety of activities, such as exploring Carignano’s open market or taking part in local events. On weekends, the group will have the opportunity to visit Turin, including highlights such as the Egyptian Museum, the Cinema Museum, the MAO Museum of Oriental Art, and the city’s beautiful Savoyard centre.
Please note that the costs of free-time activities are not covered by the project.

Partenaire

The camp is organized by Lunaria in collaboration with Giovani Insieme. The association is composed of young people for young people founded in October 1998 in Carignano with the aim of protecting, promoting and enhancing artistic, historical and architectural heritage, nature and the environment, by proposing summer work camps for young volunteers from all over Europe.

Volunteers will support the members of the cooperative in the maintenance of the organic vegetable garden, in particular in the cultivation, sowing and harvesting, in the setting up of the fruit and vegetable shop. Some renovation work can be organised according to the needs of the place. The work is mainly manual and is only organised in the mornings due to the high temperatures (between 7:00 - 12:00). Afternoons are free and volunteers can explore the surrounding area or take public transport to the beach. Depending on the interest of the volunteers, it is possible to organise workshops to decorate the interior of the house. At the end of the workcamp, there could be a cooking workshop with the volunteers of the cooperative and the young migrants hosted by the cooperative. Study part: Members of the cooperative will share their stories and experiences of managing property confiscated from organised crime and their knowledge of organic farming.

Logement et nourriture

A small building from the end of the 18th century renovated as a cosy house with three hectares of land outside. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking, cleaning and keeping the area clean and safe. Wifi is available.

Situation, loisirs

Castelvetrano is a town in Sicily, in the province of Trapani. It is known for its rich history, including its proximity to the archaeological site of Selinunte, one of the largest ancient Greek cities in Sicily. The town is famous for the production of high quality olive oil and the historical centre is rich in monuments. A pine forest is 4 km from the accommodation, while the historical centre is 1 km away.

The social cooperatives I Locandieri were born from the idea of cooperation between individuals and institutions, with the mission of generating social and economic value for the benefit of as many people as possible. They offer services to people, especially migrants, and since 2008 they have been welcoming migrants in two communities, including minors and families. One of their missions is to give new life to the confiscated property. Over the years they have given back to the community places confiscated from crime, transforming them into communities for migrants and sports facilities for children, young people and migrants living in Castelvetrano.Il Giardino delle Arance is another confiscated property that has been returned to the community: a small building from the late 18th century with three hectares of land that has been renovated to become a home for minors; a cottage that will become a space-lab for the processing of home-grown agri-food products and a shop to sell the garden s produce. Outside, there are 2 hectares of citrus groves and 1 hectare of land where an intensive organic vegetable garden has been created to implement an ambitious socio-economic project.

The volunteers will use simple tools such as shears, axes and saws to remove invasive vegetation, record data to compare the present situation and check the effectiveness of the action. At the request of the Park, interventions will be possible for easy maintenance operations in areas of naturalistic interest further inland. Restoration of the paths in the naturalistic areas of the estate and biomonitoring activities within the Park will also be carried out. All movements will be made by bicycles, which the volunteers will also maintain, with the help of the local bicycle workshop.
Study part
Volunteers will participate in workshops about the local environment and its features, held by the technicians of the Park. They will learn about the Sea turtle "Caretta Caretta", whose traces they will also look for, and about the several species of plants and trees of the territory. They will also learn how to fix their own bike.

Situation, loisirs

The San Rossore estate, in the MSRM regional park, after having been used as a hunting lodge for monarchs and presidents, has since 1989 been the central nucleus of a large coastal park that is a real gem in terms of both fauna and plant species, including several relicts and endemic species, which have found an environment here in which to survive and develop. The estate is within cycling distance of the cities of Pisa, and Lucca, two centres that need no description- from the camp it is also easy to reach other centres of interest, such as Livorno, Calci, Massaciuccoli and the Apuan Alps.

During the festival, the place is going to host hundreds of artists and thousands of spectators, so the international volunteers will be asked to join the local volunteers to manage the entire organisation of the event. An average of 6 to 7 hours per day is required, with working shifts organized on the event nights.
The volunteers' work is mainly going to involve: Logistic set up and support; Pub and restaurant tending during the festival; General cleaning during the evenings.
After the event, the volunteers will help take down the structures and clean the fortress. The work can be physically hard (and it will be very hot), but the environment will be funny and easy going. The motto is “Share, Work and Have Fun”. In a few words, volunteers should get ready to be active and to give their energy to the community working at the Forte Prenestino.

Logement et nourriture

Please, take good note that the accommodation is really basic.
The volunteers are going to sleep inside Forte Prenestino in a shared dormitory, yet they will have to bring a sleeping bag. Hand in hand with your team-mates, you will have to clean and to prepare the dorm at your arrival. During the festival, volunteers can possibly be asked to sleep a few nights in tents.
Volunteers will have access to a private chemical portable toilet (those used in festival settings) for the entire duration of the workcamp. Showers are collective open air showers, so don’t forget your swimsuit!
Regarding the meals, the volunteers will have access to a private kitchen in their dormitory for breakfast and some of the meals. Most of the meal will be served in the Forte Prenestino restaurant, where volunteers will support the cooks during the festival days. Most of the meals will have vegan options.

Situation, loisirs

The camp takes place in Rome. The city is surrounded by sixteen military fortresses built during the second half of the 19th century to set up a defensive system. All these fortresses were partially used and then abandoned during the 20th century. Forte Prenestino is located in one of these fortresses, in a big working-class neighbourhood called Centocelle.
The 1st of may 1986 a mixed group of people, under the pressure of necessity decided to squat Forte Prenestino. Since, there was no cinema, place to make music or to meet each other, they made of this Fortress the perfect spot to exchange and to learn with and from each other. For the last 25 years, full of work, fun and political struggles, the center has become a place of cultural production, autonomously managed and economically independent. Every 1st of may, a huge festival celebrates the creation of Forte Prenestino.
Forte Prenestino organizes concerts and events like Crack!, as well as providing different services for the community such as a restaurant, two pubs, a tea room, a recording studio, a popular gym, and a theater.
During the workcamp there won’t be much free time to visit the city of Rome, for instance we suggest you to arrive or depart a few days before or after the camp.

Partenaire

The camp is organised by Lunaria in collaboration with Forte Prenestino. CSOA Forte Prenestino is an occupied and self-managed social centre that has existed since 1986. Reclaimed from abandonment, it is a space for meeting, socialising, creativity and collective organisation, lived without institutional authorisation or political control. The Forte is self-managed through horizontal assemblies and the free association of people who share a common project and ethics. It experiments with alternative ways of living, organising work, time and decision-making, valuing equality, diversity and collective responsibility. Open to anyone who shares its values, the Forte is entirely self-financed through accessible contributions from cultural and musical initiatives, which support its daily activities, campaigns and mobilisations.
As part of a wider struggle for a different society, Forte Prenestino practices another form of sociality and economy. It is openly anti-fascist, anti-sexist, anti-racist and anti-prohibitionist, and remains a deliberately challenging space.

Remarques

This project requires a motivation letter and to sign an agreement to confirm the understanding of the project. It is crucial to be open minded and ready to live in an alternative community with very basic accommodation conditions.
It is asked to provide a 20€ fee to share among the group for collective groceries, breakfast and group leisure activities.

Daily tasks divide in 4 sectors:
* Kitchen: Cook for the community! Taking care of lunch and dinner. You’ll work in a professional kitchen. Team of 8 people, listening to music and.. peeling potatoes;
* Cleaning of communal areas: Preparing rooms for new arrivals. Taking care of outdoor areas. More teams of 4 people on different areas;
* Bar: Serving coffees and more to your friends during the coordinated common breaks;
* Service: Serve the breakfast for the community, prepare the hall for meals, and dry dishes.

Volunteers will participate in the classic activities of collecting, sorting, selling, recycling, and repairing materials that characterize Emmaus communities. They will work alongside local volunteers and community members, both in activities and leisure moments. Volunteers will help organize the solidarity flea market, select and place materials for the market, and participate in the organic zero-mileage vegetable garden. Those interested in salvaging and restyling can assist with improvement projects and workshops such as gardening, painting, wood working, tailoring and space recovery. The main focus of the camp is to regenerate and transform in a creative and sustainable way of thinking the community leaving and working spaces.

Logement et nourriture

Volunteers will sleep in the community hall and in other rooms where mattresses and/or camp beds will be provided, there will be separate rooms for girls and boys. The site includes a shaded garden, toilets, showers, hot and drinking water, and electricity. Lunch is prepared by the Community while the volunteer will take care of the dinner. The main diet is Vegetarian/Vegan and meat/fish will be included twice a week. Alcohol is forbidden inside the community.

Situation, loisirs

Volunteers can visit nearby places at their own costs. Florence and other locations such as Prato e Pistoia can be reached by public transportation. The community is located on a little hill surrounded by a beautiful landscape typical from Tuscany and the Market is in the Village of Quarrata. Excursions and visits of cultural and natural places are organized by the Community as part of the experience. If leisure activities include people from the local community, the consumption of alcohol is forbidden.

Emmaus takes part as well in solidarity actions in Italy and around the world and raises awareness about their values and mission. Our main activities include the collection, reuse, and recycling of used materials, displayed at the Solidarity Flea Market.
