Work

We focus on natural healing, wellness, and preventive health care. At the clinic we integrate a holistic approach by making plants and food essential components of each patient’s treatment process.
Participants support the clinic’s sustainability and wellness goals through activities in the greenhouses and herbal gardens. The main tasks include planting, harvesting, and maintaining crops, as well as controlling pests and ensuring plant health.

A special aspect of this placement is contributing to the production of the clinic’s signature herbal tea — assisting in every stage of the process: growing, drying, and packaging the herbs. This tea is later used in the clinic’s meals and treatments, supporting the therapeutic nutrition provided to patients.
This experience offers a meaningful way to understand the connection between sustainable agriculture, health, and natural rehabilitation.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will stay in a house operated by The Natural Health Association in Hveragerði.
Located within the medical compound, the house features 9 single rooms, a fully equipped
kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a shared common area for relaxation and group activities.

Total capacity: 9 people (including Camp Leaders)
Washing machine available on site
Access to the local swimming pool, restricted time (please review Icelandic pool regulations
before use)

Food is included for the entire duration of the work camp; however, everyone is expected to do
their fair share of cooking and cleaning. Since it’s always fun to try new and different dishes,
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their favorite recipes from home!
We also invite everyone to try vegetarian food during their stay with us.
We provide a well-balanced and healthy variety of ingredients, including whole grains, seasonal
fruits and vegetables, pantry staples, dairy products, and vegetarian/vegan options. To help reduce
our carbon footprint, we limit meat consumption and promote sustainable, plant-based meals.
We do not provide soft drinks or candies, but we do offer plenty of ingredients for baking
delicious snacks. As we bake our own bread, feel free to bring your favorite golden-crust recipe
from home!

Please inform us in advance if you have any food allergies or special dietary needs, so we can accommodate you properly.

Work

Sólheimar, Iceland‘s first and only eco-village, is located in southwest Iceland, 80 kilometers long (50 miles) east of Reykjavík. Founded in 1930 by a young visionary named Sesselja Sigmundsdóttir (1902-1974), the place has become reputable for its innovation and its ecological concept, attracting visitors and volunteers from all over the world.

It is a community where people with or without special needs live and work together. Sólheimar is a pioneer in practicing organic farming. In Sólheimar, there is an organically certified greenhouse, forestry, and arboretum. Other environmentally friendly projects in Sólheimar include geothermal energy and recycling.

The heart of the Sólheimar ideology is to give all individuals a fair chance and to maximize their potential. Sólheimar focuses on individuals' possibilities, not their limitations. This approach creates a space where each resident can seize every opportunity for growth and development.
Versatility is the strength of Sólheimar, so people with special needs who reside here will always be the center of the community. This concept is based on the idea of reverse integration, where individuals without special needs adapt to the abilities of those who do, and they can work together to create a community that is equal and sustainable. The foundation of the ideology of Sólheimar derives from the visions and lifework of Sesselja herself.

The main work in this camp will be in forestry, called Ölur, and also in the greenhouses, called Sunna. Volunteers will work in the greenhouses, planting and harvesting vegetables, performing weed control, and occasionally gardening. The work might involve work around the property, painting, or fixing things. During the winter, volunteers will also have to help remove snow and keep the walk paths clear for the residents.

Working hours are 09.00 to 16.00 with one one-hour break for lunch, and there are some coffee breaks as well.

Our work will depend on weather conditions, which is why we must be flexible. You should be prepared for unfriendly weather, as they say: if you don’t like the Icelandic weather, just wait 5 minutes, it might change.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will be staying in the house of Worldwide Friends in Sólheimar. The house is across the village and has 4 double rooms with a private bathroom each, a fully equipped kitchen, and common areas. The common areas are shared with some of the local workers.

Total capacity: 8 people (including Camp Leaders)
Washing machine available on site
Access to the local swimming pool and gym, restricted time (please review Icelandic pool regulations
before use)

Food is included for the entire duration of the work camp; however, everyone is expected to do

Location and leisure

A number of interesting attractions are located within the Sólheimar village itself, such as the charming coffee shop Græna Kannan, Vala Market & Art Boutique: to shop for beautifully hand-crafted pieces, visit Skalholt Cathedral, and workshops run by local businesses like candle-making, carpentry, weaving, and soap-making. Surrounded by geothermal activity and stunning landscapes, it’s a perfect place for both outdoor adventures and relaxation in the local swimming pool and gym.

Work

During this workcamp, volunteers will take part in various tasks related to the renovation and maintenance of our Sustainable Center. As a member of the Renovation Team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside skilled foremen, supporting the construction of new facilities for community use, renovating existing buildings, and improving local infrastructure.

You will have the opportunity to witness the impact of your handiwork, continuing the construction efforts started by previous volunteers and contributing to the long-term development of the center.
Our first priority in establishing this program is to ensure that all activities address the real needs of the organization and the local community. For this reason, specific tasks may vary depending on current priorities and conditions.

The work will depend on the skills and knowledge of each volunteer but will mainly focus on painting, cleaning, repairing, and learning basic carpentry and construction techniques. Typical activities may also include fixing furniture, maintaining outdoor areas, organizing tools, and upcycling materials for practical use around the center.

In addition to the work, winter in Iceland means Aurora Hunting!
If you enjoy photography, connecting with people from around the world, and experiencing the magic of the Northern Lights, this camp will suit you perfectly. We will be on the lookout for the Aurora Borealis throughout the entire project, giving you the chance to capture this breathtaking phenomenon.
Please remember to bring a camera with long-exposure capability and a tripod — essential tools to photograph this once-in-a-lifetime sight!

Our work will depend on the needs of the organization and the local community and the season. This is a perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and physical challenges.
Working hours 5 to 7 hours per day of environmental work during the weekdays. With lunch and coffee breaks. Note: working hours may vary depending on the weather conditions.

Accomodation and food

Volunteers will stay in one of the Worldwide Friends (WF) houses, which feature various room setups accommodating 4 to 6 people per room. Each house includes a fully equipped kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and shared common areas for socializing and relaxation. The total house capacity is 30 people, including volunteers and camp leaders.
We share the house with our lovely cat Loppa.

Washing machine and dryer on site.

Note: Actual occupancy may vary depending on factors such as season, health regulations, or other restrictions. The program requires a minimum of 4 volunteers plus Camp Leaders to operate. In case the minimum number of volunteers is not reached, WF Iceland will offer alternative projects in advance so participants can still take part in
meaningful volunteer activities.

Food is included for the entire duration of the work camp; however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of cooking and cleaning. Since it’s always fun to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring their favorite recipes from home!

We also invite everyone to try vegetarian food during their stay with us.

Location and leisure

Krýsuvík is a geothermal and volcanic area in the southwest of Iceland. It is situated on the Reykjanes peninsula, about 35 km from Reykjavik. The name Krýsuvík means "bay of Krýsa," a folk tale figure from the area.

Krýsuvík is part of the Reykjanes Geopark https://reykjanesgeopark.is/ . UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, recognised Reykjanes as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015. UNESCO Global Geoparks are areas where sites and landscapes that are of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.

The landscapes surrounding it are astonishing. Walking around the park is a very special experience. There are boiling hot springs, mud bubbles and hissing steam is forced out of the earth from geothermal vents. The rich and various colours fade into each other which gives the area a magical impression. You can also find fresh lava where you can feel the warmth of the Earth.
It can be tempting to get closer to touch the hot springs but make sure to stay away from them and on the marked path as the heat is 80-100 degrees Celsius.

The region offers an incredible opportunity to experience Iceland’s volcanic energy up close while learning about its geology and environmental significance.
You’ll find scenic hiking trails through geothermal valleys, viewpoints overlooking Lake Kleifarvatn, and natural hot springs nearby where you can relax after a day of volunteering. The area also provides peaceful surroundings ideal for photography, nature walks, and reflection.

WF Iceland organizes affordable weekend and one-day excursions to Iceland’s most stunning natural sites — including waterfalls, glaciers, lava fields, geothermal areas, and black sand beaches.
Explore available trips at: wf.is/excursions
(A minimum number of participants is required to run excursions.)

Nature is always close in Krýsuvík — enjoy hikes around geothermal fields, birdwatching by the lake, or short day trips to the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you can visit lighthouses, cliffs, and thermal pools.
From September to April, the Northern Lights often dance above the horizon on clear nights — a magical reward for those who stay up to watch the Icelandic sky come alive.

Please note there is no public transportation in the area.

Work

During this camp, participants can share their passion for (and learn more about) global & local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management and sustainability, and you also love taking photos, then this project is for you!
While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers & travellers!
You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits, such as outdoor cleanup tasks, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on weather conditions, as on the availability of our partners.
You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice while exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS' social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.
SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing and hands-on activities. On top of that you get to know Iceland and its culture while having fun, exploring the city, its attractions and stunning nature, which you can experience in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances (up to 1,5 hours) during activities and sightseeing.

Accomodation and food

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. Participants sleep in shared rooms with up to 6 people so everyone is expected to behave considerately. Please bring your own towel.
Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening. Be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

Location and leisure

Reykjavík is a dynamic, modern city that lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world’s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavík is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.

SEEDS will organise a night photography and aurora hunting workshop in the city or in the vicinity of Reykjavík. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon depending on solar activity and meteorological conditions, so we cannot guarantee you will see northern lights, but the night photography workshop will be organised anyway.

Directions to meeting point

The Meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on February 5 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík at Grettisgata 3a. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Additional comments

LANGUAGE: English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.
It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Requirements

Participation fee EUR 450 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. It includes transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day) and the night photography workshop.
Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle, Hot River hike and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

We provide a well-balanced and healthy variety of ingredients, including whole grains, seasonal fruits and vegetables, pantry staples, dairy products, and vegetarian/vegan options. To help reduce our carbon footprint, we limit meat consumption and promote sustainable, plant-based meals.

We do not provide soft drinks or candies, but we do offer plenty of ingredients for baking
delicious snacks. As we bake our own bread, feel free to bring your favorite golden-crust
recipe from home! Please inform us in advance if you have any food allergies or special
dietary needs, so we can accommodate you properly.

Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle, Hot River hike and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Project hosted by

SEEDS’ programme combines learning, sharing and hands-on activities. On top of that you get to know Iceland and its culture while having fun, exploring the city, its attractions and stunning nature, which you can experience in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances (up to 1,5 hours) during activities and sightseeing.

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact.

The Meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on February 25 at SEEDS’ office at Grettisgata 3a Reykjavik. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Additional comments

English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.

Requirements

The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. It includes transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day) and the night photography workshop.

It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

Some excursions (e.g. to the Golden Circle, Hot River hike and/or South Shore) can be arranged at discount fares if there is free time after the camp workshops/sessions.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting time will be at 18:00 (6:00 pm) on March 7 at SEEDS’ office in Reykjavík. Participants that cannot arrive on time (later or delayed flights) will be sent information on how to reach the camp on their own.

Additional comments

English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.

Requirements

Participation fee EUR 450 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. It includes transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day) and the night photography workshop.
