Work

World Village Festival is committed to continually improving its environmental efforts. There is only vegetarian food for sale. The festival strives to minimize waste, allowing only recyclable containers. The festival is committed to recycling all waste. The volunteers of the festival are carrying out several different tasks. The first three days the festival area is built up. This means carrying fences and tables, setting up tents, installing signs and banners, assisting where needed and helping with area decoration. During the festival days many volunteers are needed in the team which keeps the festival area tidy and in the recycling team which gives assistance to festival visitors. There will also be free time to enjoy the interesting cultural program of the festival. After the festival, volunteers work with take-down work such as taking down banners, signs and decorations. After the festival volunteers will move to a seaside camp centre and have time to relax and share thoughts of the theme which is environmental responsibility and greenwashing. The volunteers do not need to have any previous experience of the environmental topics.

Accomodation and food

The first week volunteers will stay in a hostel in double rooms near the festival site in central Helsinki, after the festival the group will move to a camp centre near the sea and Sipoonkorpi National Park. The volunteers will cook some meals themselves, some meals will be served in local restaurants and in the festival.

Location and leisure

The camp happens in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Suvilahti event area which is a former power plant area that has been taken over by several cultural actors for festivals and events. Volunteers will get to enjoy city and nature which are never far away in Helsinki. Helsinki offers lot to see and experience, also the festival will be an unforgettable experience.

Finnish Development NGOs Fingo is the umbrella organisation of 270 Finnish civil society organisations (CSOs) engaged in development cooperation, sustainable development and global citizenship education. Fingo and its Member Organisations promote sustainable development and global justice and work to make life fairer i everywhere. Fingo organizes the yearly World Village Festival which is Finland s leading event for global action for the whole family, a free cultural festival, a food carnival and a trade fair for sustainable development. World Village raises global challenges and solutions, increases understanding and provides concrete ways to take action to create change. Expected number of visitors is 50 000 during the weekend 24.-25.5. There will be dozens of program concerts, discussions, workshops. In the festival area hundreds of different organisations and institutions and other actors present their work. The theme of this years festival is Peace.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is environmental responsibility and greenwashing.

Directions to meeting point

The closest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa. Helsinki can be reached by ferry from Tallinn and Stockholm.

Requirements

The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. This EYA project is open for all even though it is primarily targeted to European volunteers. Green travelling is encouraged. Volunteers traveling by land (bus or train) for most of their journey will be eligible for a travel grant up to 100euro.

Work

The volunteers will participate in a community project where they will be riding an electronic coffee bike, providing people free of charge refreshments and a place to chat and connect. During the project a children s summer camp takes place, and the volunteers play games and do crafts with the participating children. They will get to be part of the camp, play football and other games, and spend time outside.

Accomodation and food

The volunteers will sleep in double rooms in Leinikki on air mattresses. The accommodation also has a common area with sofas as well as toilets and showers. There is a large kitchen area where the volunteers can prepare food.

Location and leisure

Simonkyla is close to Tikkurila in Vantaa, adjacent to Helsinki, renowned for its cultural attractions and recreational facilities. Nature is nearby: a forest with gym equipment is right around the corner and there is a national park with a lake for swimming, and kayaking. Volunteers can borrow bicycles for the duration of the camp in order to explore the area.

Project hosted by

Vantaan Jarjestorinki is an organization that supports and connects associations in Vantaa. It serves as a network for local groups and works to improve the conditions for associations by organizing networking meetings, training sessions, and offering free meeting spaces at the Leinikki Civic Activity Center in Simonkyla. They also organize free weekly community events, ranging from a crafts club, community cafe, Men s group, Senior cafe, children s afternoon club, and similar activities to people living in the area.

Helsinki - Vantaa airport is very near to the camp location. Helsinki can be also reached by ferry.

Requirements

The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. The volunteers need to know how to ride a bicycle. A criminal record extract is required.

Work

During the first week of the camp the volunteers will do gardening work and prepare for the Open Gardens -event. During the second week the participants will renovate and paint old barn doors. The volunteers will get to know the sustainable way of living of the host organisation and enjoy the cultural and other actiivities.

Accomodation and food

The accommodation will be organized in rooms of 2-4 people. There will be a shared sauna, shower and toilets. The volunteers will cook their meals in small teams with ingredients provided by the host, also some from the own garden of Tipula.

Location and leisure

Tipula is a small village, surrounded by forests and farm land. The nearest cities are Laitila, Rauma and Turku. The west coast of Finland is the oldest part of the country. There are many historical towns for the volunteers to visit, as well as beautiful nature to explore. There is a public beach nearby and beautiful nature for hiking and walking.

Project hosted by

The Cultural Organisation of Tipula pursues to provide the residences for artists from various fields and develop the activity based on the needs of the creative work. They also organize concerts, camps and events in Tipula and further productions of publications and exhibitions. The organization upkeeps an old garden of self-grown and near-by produced food, surrounded by forests, old farmland and wheatfields. Their goal is to reach out to create international bonds, to enhance ecological values and sustainable, environmentally friendly way of life. This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is sustainability, greenwashing and circular economy. The volunteers do not need to have any previous knowledge of the topic, but are welcome to join workshops.

Directions to meeting point

The closest airports are Helsinki-Vantaa and Turku. Laitila is 3,5h from Helsinki and 1h from Turku by bus. You can also arrive in Helsinki or Turku by ferry.

Requirements

The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. The camp is not suitable for volunteers with allergy to animals as there are cats and dogs in the camp area. The EYA project is primarily targeted to European volunteers. Volunteers traveling by land (bus or train) for most of their journey will be eligible for a travel grant up to 100euro.

Work

Volunteers will be involved in two main activities: assisting with the festival s organization and participating in the production of the feature film Pigtown. Tasks include event setup, assisting with screenings and logistics, as well as working on the film set as production assistants, extras, or helping with props and set decoration. This unique opportunity provides hands-on experience in both cultural event management and independent film production.

Accomodation and food

Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms in a local school or the festival lodging facilities. The volunteers will sleep on beds and mattresses. The volunteers will cook their own meals in the kitchen. The ingredients will be provided, focusing on nutritious and locally sourced food that will be plant based whenever possible.

Location and leisure

Huhtamo is a picturesque rural village in western Finland, known for its scenic landscapes, traditional wooden buildings, and strong local culture. The area is surrounded by forests, lakes, and farmland, offering a peaceful atmosphere with a vibrant cultural scene during the festival. The nearest major city is Tampere, approximately 80 km away, offering modern amenities, historical sites, and a lively arts scene.

The camp is organized in connection with the Huhtamo International Film Festival, a renowned cultural event celebrating its 5th anniversary in 2025 run by a non-profit association.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Huittinen can be reached from Helsinki by bus in 3h or by train via Tampere. Helsinki can also be reached by ferry.

Requirements

The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. This camp is especially suitable for volunteers interested in filmmaking but no previous experience is required. Registration fee 50euro.

Work

During the camp the volunteers will assist in renovating a building which will become a rehabilitation center for youngsters and young adults with different challenges. The rehab centre Kukukuu will open in the autumn and there is still work to be done in the building and yard to make it ready for the new residents. The volunteers should be ready to get their hands dirty as they will be painting the bedrooms, planting a nice garden, and working in the yard and the greenhouse. The volunteers will also be able to practise their skills in upcycling by fixing and decorating textiles such as recycled T-shirts.

Accomodation and food

The volunteers will cook the meals together with the hosts. The accommodation is in shared rooms for two people.

Location and leisure

Camp and 769;s location is Kuru, 55 kilometres from the nearest big city, Tampere. Kuru is a pretty traditional small village of 3000 habitants but in summertime habitants triple because of the summer residents move to their cottages. Kuru has beautiful nature with lakes and forests. There are hiking trails nearby as well as a national park Seitseminen. The volunteers will have a chance to visit the historical sights in Tampere.

The camp host is an association Opastyopaja working in the social work field. They are going to open a rehabilitation centre Kukukuu in the Autumn. The purpose of the residential centre is to support young adults with difficulties for rehabilitation periods.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is sustainability, greenwashing and circular economy.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport or Tampere airport. Helsinki can also be reached by ferry. If you arrive in Helsinki, you can reach Tampere easily by train or bus in about two hours. The volunteers will be picked up from Tampere.
