Arbeit

Volunteers work will include gardening in a nut tree nursery, making new growing beds, transplanting trees, mulching, potting the plants, preparation work for the food forest sites, forest work, preparing firewood and transplanting perennials. Volunteers will also have other work such as reorganizing summer kitchen and other outdoor spaces, preparational work for renovating an old traditional log house and other small projects.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Simple accommodation is organized in a shared room. The accommodation is located 2,7 km away from the main project site. We offer bicycles for the volunteers for the period of the camp to move around. Near the accommodation there is a lake and a little protected forest. The volunteers will have a chance to heat up a traditional Finnish sauna and go swimming on some days. On the worksite there is a dry toilet, but near the accommodation there are regular toilets and showers. Delicious organic vegan food will be provided for breakfast and lunch, while the dinner will be prepared by the volunteers together.

Lage und Freizeit

Karjalohja is a rural village 85 km from Helsinki. In the Karjalohja area there is a lot of movement towards alternative and sustainable lifestyles. There are beautiful natural places to visit around lakes Lohjanjarvi and Puujarvi. There is a possibility to borrow a canoe to make some trips to the islands or have small hikes in nature.

The camp is organized by GEN Finland, which is the organization for Finnish ecovillages andcommunity-led initiatives for sustainability. The organizers under GEN Finland work for a nutbreeding project which aims to create nut orchards to produce sowing seeds from different species of nuts in Finland to enable nut growing as a part of sustainable food production. They want to support the transition to regenerative agriculture and creation of a sustainable future. Main work is being done on a farm and in a communal food forest/ nut orchard in the area.Organizers hold expertise on permaculture design, plant nursing and creating forest gardens. During the camp you can learn about different methods of sustainable gardening and plant nursing while working on diverse tasks.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is biodiversity.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

It will take about two hours to reach Karjalohja from Helsinki by bus via Lohja. The closest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa. You can also arrive in Helsinki or Turku by ferry.

World Village Festival is committed to continually improving its environmental efforts. The festival strives to minimize waste and is committed to recycling. The volunteers of the festival are carrying out several different tasks. The first three days the festival area is built up. This means carrying fences and tables, setting up tents, installing signs and banners and helping with area decoration. During the festival days many volunteers are needed in the team which keeps the festival area tidy and in the recycling team which takes care that the different types of litter end in the right containers. After the festival, volunteers work with take-down work such as taking down banners, signs and decorations.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in simple shared accommodation. During the working days meals will be provided while breakfast and dinner will be prepared by the volunteers together in groups. The food will be mostly plant-based.

The camp happens in Helsinki, the active and vibrant capital of Finland.

Finnish Development NGOs Fingo is the umbrella organisation of Finnish civil society organisations engaged in development cooperation and global citizenship education. Fingo and its member organisations promote sustainable development and global justice and work to make life fairer everywhere. Fingo organizes the yearly World Village Festival which is Finland s leading event for global action for the whole family, a free cultural festival and a trade fair for sustainable development. World Village raises global challenges and solutions, increases understanding and provides concrete ways to take action to create change. The program will consist of concerts, discussions, and workshops. In the festival area different organisations and institutions and other actors present their work.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is greenwashing.

The closest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa. Helsinki can be reached by ferry from Tallinn and Stockholm.

Arbeit

The participants duties include acting as assistant camp counselors. The volunteers are not solely responsible for the group of children, but act as assistants to the camp counselors in organizing the program. Duties may include for example supervising games and activities, retrieving items, providing basic care for the campers (guiding them in brushing their teeth, distributing food), and generally assisting with everyday activities.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation is organised in a house on the camp grounds, where the volunteers stay in double rooms. The common area and the bathrooms are shared. It is also possible to use your own tent in the back yard of the house. The volunteers are provided with all meals during the day.

Lage und Freizeit

The camp area is located in a rural area far from nearby towns. The closest city of Hameenlinna is approximately 20km away. During their free time, the volunteers have the opportunity to use the camp center s equipment and facilities. There will be a chance to try a traditional Finnish sauna and to swim in a lake. You can also try rowing a boat or paddle boarding as well as grill by a campfire. There is also a possibility to go for walks in nature or visit nearby villages.

The project is organized by Lasten Kesa, an organisation that does preventive child welfare work. During school holidays and on weekends they organize overnight camps for children and adolescents on the shores of a lake near Hameenlinna. The camps offer fun and wonderful experiences and work as high-quality preventive child welfare work that has a positive effect on the well-being of both the camper and their entire family. They also provide meaningful activities in the middle of everyday life. At the camp, the children have the opportunity to do fun activities with secure adults, meanwhile the adults of the family have the opportunity to take a breather at home.

The closest city is Hameenlinna, which you can reach by train or bus from Helsinki. From Hameenlinna you can reach the camp location by bus. The closest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa. You can also reach Helsinki by ferry from Tallinn and Stockholm.

Arbeit

The volunteers will participate in a community project where they will be riding an electronic coffee bike, providing people free of charge refreshments and a place to chat and connect. During the project a childrens summer day camp takes place, and the volunteers play games and do crafts with the participating children. They will get to be part of the camp, play football and other games, and spend time outside.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will sleep in double rooms in Leinikki on air mattresses. Sheets and pillows are provided. The accommodation also has a common area with sofas as well as toilets and showers. Most of the food is surplus food from food wholesalers, but there is a large kitchen area where the volunteers can prepare any additional meals.

Lage und Freizeit

Simonkyla is close to Tikkurila in Vantaa, adjacent to Helsinki. Nature is nearby: a forest with gym equipment is right around the corner and there is a national park with a lake for swimming, and kayaking. Volunteers can borrow bicycles for the duration of the camp in order to explore the area.

Vantaan Jarjestorinki is an organization that supports and connects associations in Vantaa. It serves as a network for local groups and works to improve the conditions for associations by organizing networking meetings, training sessions, and offering free meeting spaces at the Leinikki Civic Activity Center. They also organize free weekly community events, ranging from a crafts club, community cafe, Men s group, Senior cafe, children s afternoon club, and similar activities to people living in the area.

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is very near to the camp location. Helsinki can also be reached by ferry from Stockholm or Tallinn.

Arbeit

The volunteers will be renovating and painting the buildings in Tipula, gardening and removing invasive species in the Laitila area. There will also be some tasks related to cleaning up and organizing the historic WALO house. The volunteers will get to know the sustainable way of living and learn more about the themes of the camp through workshops and activities.

The accommodation will be organized in rooms of 2-4 people. There will be a shared sauna, a shower and a toilet. The volunteers will cook their meals in small teams with ingredients provided by the host, also some from the own garden of Tipula. The food will be mostly plant based.

Lage und Freizeit

Tipula is a small village, surrounded by forests and farm land. The nearest cities are Laitila, Rauma and Turku. The west coast of Finland is the oldest part of the country. There are many historical towns for the volunteers to visit, as well as beautiful nature to explore. There is a public beach nearby and beautiful nature for hiking and walking.

The Cultural Organisation of Tipula pursues to provide the residences for artists from various fields and develop the activity based on the needs of the creative work. They also organize concerts, camps and events in Tipula. The organization upkeeps an old garden of self-grown and locally produced food, surrounded by forests, old farmland and wheatfields. Their goal is to reach out to create international bonds, to enhance ecological values and sustainable, environmentally friendly way of life.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. The horizontal theme of this camp is energy transition.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

Laitila is 3,5 hours from Helsinki and 1hour from Turku by bus. The closest airports are Helsinki-Vantaa and Turku. You can also arrive in Helsinki or Turku by ferry.

The participants will clear and tidy the environment and separate waste materials such as plastic, metal, textiles for future use or for recycling. One day volunteers will have a workshop on how to make art from recycled materials. The topic of Energy transition will be shared and discussed and there will be some interesting visits to local energy sources such as fuel peat producers who are changing their activities from fuel peat to more sustainable options.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Simple shared accommodation in a cottage by a small clear lake within a walking distance from Alpo Savannah. The volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bag. The cottage has a sauna and a good beach for swimming. Drinking water needs to be brought from Alpo Savannah, while the washing water will be carried from the lake. There is a compost toilet on the premises and washing facilities in the sauna. All meals will be plant based and cooked together by the volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

The Alpo savannah is located in a rural setting in the village of Nummijarvi far from shopping centers and city life, but with great surrounding nature. Finnish idyll at its best. The volunteers will be staying in the middle of the forest where the silence and peace are tangible and the mushrooms and berries are within reach. The host will provide bikes for the volunteers to move around during the camp. You will have a chance to visit nearby national parks and a local festival. The nearest town Kauhajoki is 30 kilometers away and all the important services can be found there.

The local host is an innovative association that maintains the Alpo savannah, a sculpture park created by DIY artist Alpo Koivumaki. They repair, restore and preserve the sculptures he made from waste materials. The volunteers will assist in building a festival called DinosauRock in Mikkeli. During the festival there will be various tasks such as keeping the area tidy, but also free time to enjoy the interesting festival program. After the festival there will also be work dismantling the festival. Please note that the volunteers are expected to do physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.

The volunteers will stay in shared accommodation or in cabins in the area of Visulahti, a camping resort in Mikkeli. Volunteers will prepare some meals together in small teams, some meals will be provided.

The festival and the camp are held in the town of Mikkeli, next to the largest lake in Finland, Saimaa. The camping resort Visulahti is mostly a summer destination for families that also has an aquatic park. There will be a possibility to go swimming and discover the local nature.

This camp is organized together with a cultural association Mukula which has organised cultural festivals with international volunteers for over 20 years. These camps have been really successful. This year the festival will take place for the second time in a new exciting location with popular artists.

Arbeit

The main task of volunteers is to paint historical wooden buildings with traditional paint that will be prepared together from basic ingredients. The work is physical and will be done outdoors, be ready to get your hands dirty. In addition there will be tasks to increase biodiversity in the surroundings by building living fences and taking care of the herb garden. The volunteers will learn about nutrients and composting and there will be a workshop on biodiversity.

The volunteers will sleep in simple shared accommodation. The main building has a shower, two toilets, and a large common area with tables and benches. Food on this camp will be plant based and prepared from seasonal ingredients. The volunteers will cook their meals together in teams.

Lage und Freizeit

Lapinlahti is a small municipality with around 9000 inhabitants located in an area called Northern Savonia. The area has lots of beautiful nature, and is famous for forests and lakes. During the free time, it is possible to go swimming in the lake, visit art museums, flea markets, shops, a parkour park, outdoor gym, and discover different nature attractions and hiking trails nearby.

Architecture and environmental culture school Lastu is an art and construction activity center in Lapinlahti. It was founded in 1993 and is maintained by an association. Their mission is to support and develop architectural and environmental cultural education and promote the appreciation, understanding and nurturing of old and newer built cultural heritage. Their aim is to help people to create a relationship with nature and offer tools to nurture and care for the environment.This camp is a part of the project European Youth in Action: policymakers for climate justice, supported by the CERV programme, improving competences in concrete actions for climate justice. Arbeit

During the camp a Venetian Event will be organized. This is a traditional celebration for the end of the summer season with bonfires and sometimes fireworks. The main tasks of the volunteers include creating artworks for the event, putting up and decorating the festival area, and dismantling and cleaning up afterwards. Participants will also collaborate with the local youth centre and create social media content about the event and their experiences. The focus is on creative work, giving young people the opportunity to explore different art and craft techniques while actively participating in the festival and its organization.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in hostel type accommodation in the former Kerkonjoki school, with shared bathrooms and a kitchen where they can prepare meals. Some of the meals will be provided by the school kitchen.

Lage und Freizeit

Kerkonkoski is a beautiful village surrounded by waterways. The area offers great opportunities for outdoor activities, swimming, and small adventures. The canal and its surroundings are the heart of the village i a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. During their free time the volunteers can visit interesting spots like the Old Mill, a bird lake, and local nature trails. The nearest town is Suonenjoki.

The local host, LAG Mansikka is a rural development association and a local activator that operates and supports rural development in the area of six municipalities in Northern Savonia. The camp is organized in cooperation with Taitava Kerkonkoski, an interdisciplinary association that aims to support all kinds of creative activities in Kerkonkoski.

You can take a train from Helsinki airport to Suonenjoki which is located 30km from the project location. Please take into account that it can take up to 4h to reach Suonenjoki from Helsinki.
