Arbeit

The project aims to foster cultural exchange through engaging workshops on
Japanese culture with a group of young Japanese participants. These workshops
will be held in schools, residential facilities and eldery houses, and various
community spaces, providing an opportunity for participants to immerse
themselves in the rich heritage and traditions of Japan.

The initiative seeks to bridge cultural divides and promote mutual understanding
by showcasing aspects of Japanese culture such as traditional arts, cuisine and
language.
Through interactive sessions, participants will have the chance to learn even basic
phrases in Japanese.

The workshops will not only serve as educational experiences but also as
platforms for dialogue and cross-cultural interaction. Participants will be
encouraged to ask questions, share their own cultural perspectives, and engage in
meaningful exchanges with the Japanese group. Moreover, the project will
emphasize inclusivity and accessibility by targeting diverse audiences, including
students of all ages, residents of care homes, and members of community
organizations. The initiative aims to promote cultural appreciation and tolerance
among people from different backgrounds.

Overall, the project objective is to foster lasting connections and promote global
citizenship by celebrating the diversity of human culture while highlighting the
common threads that unite us all. Through the shared experience of learning
about Japanese culture, participants will gain valuable insights into the
importance of cultural diversity and the beauty of cross-cultural exchange.

Although the activities will mainly take place in schools, care homes and youth centres in the Marina Alta area of Alicante, such as Altea, participants will also have the opportunity to collaborate on a punctual basis with other volunteers involved in our Dana Helping Hands project, which contributes to the recovery of the areas and communities affected by the catastrophic DANA floods in Valencia in 2024. This collaboration may include a wide and diverse range of activities, which can be physical, artistic, educational or social in nature.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will be hosted at Casa Jazmín, a comfortable and basic house set in a peaceful rural environment, ideal for both relaxation and focused working. Accommodation consists of shared rooms with bunk beds, fostering a communal and inclusive atmosphere. The house is equipped with a fully functional kitchen and four bathrooms to ensure a comfortable stay. The house is fully equipped, ensuring you have every basic thing you need for a pleasant stay. Washing machine, Wi-fi,
sheets and pillows are available. Participants may be required to bring their own sleeping bags or bed linen, although the house is equipped with bedding. Volunteers will cook in groups using food provided by De Amicitia and under the guidance of the camp leaders. The group will be self sufficient.

Lage und Freizeit

Usually there are 2 days off per week. The volunteers will be free those days and as the camp location is in a very touristic area you have possibilities to plan a group trip to the mountains or to the nearest towns and cities.

Sanet i Els Negrals is a charming village located in the Marina Alta region of Alicante, Spain. Nestled between orange groves and mountains, it offers a peaceful, rural atmosphere. Visitors enjoy scenic walks, local fiestas, and authentic Spanish cuisine. The surrounding landscape is ideal for hiking and cycling. Sanet i Els Negrals is perfect for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.

Arbeit

Our initiative contributes to material recovery, to community strengthening and to raising awareness about the effects of natural disasters. Thanks to the synergy between local and international partners, we seek to restore hope, improve the quality of life of those affected and establish a replicable model for future climate crises.
The work propose can vary from agriculture work to donate food to needed population, developing workshops with local youngsters, support local NGOs in Dana Area, creating concerts and other artistic activities with communities affected by Dana and to raise money, support elderies in third age residences

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in a volunteer house, Casa Jazmin, with three rooms with several bunkbeds and bathrooms. They will share rooms with four to six other volunteers. The house includes a nice kitchen in which the volunteers will cook for themselves in the guidance of the camp leaders.
You can either bring your own sheets or a sleeping bag. There are beds and pillows but no sheets or pillow covers.
La Casa Jazmín is recently renovated but there are always some pending tasks to complete because it is a house made for volunteers. Volunteers can carry out some basic tasks like painting, throwing out extra materials and organising spaces.
Eventually voluteers may move to other places close to Area 0 in the Dana to be able to reach easier locations where our impact might be higher

Lage und Freizeit

Sanet is a small town in the southwest of Spain close to Dénia (communidad de Valencia). It lays in the beautiful countryside, surrounded by hills which are great for hiking - there are a lot of hiking trails to discover. The house is located right in the middle of town, so there are great opportunities to interact and socialize with the locals and to truly experience the Spanish countryside.
Furthermore, the volunteers can make excursions with puiblic transport to Valencia or Alicante or surrounding villages like Denia, Altea or Calpe

The area affected by the DANA in the Valencia region includes a significant portion of the province, particularly in the central and southeastern parts. The flooding was particularly severe in the Valencia city center and surrounding areas, with extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and the environment. The DANA caused a massive water accumulation, leading to catastrophic flooding and the displacement of thousands of residents. The impact of the DANA has been extensive, with the Valencia region experiencing one of the most severe natural disasters in Spain's history.
