Arbeit

Accompanying the Residents: Supporting them in their daily life at the shelter, taking walks around the city, or assisting with various errands.

Leisure & Social Inclusion: Participating in and promoting activities organized by the house, encouraging participation and providing physical support to those with mobility issues (e.g., wheelchair users).

Daily Support: Assisting with personal hygiene for residents who require help with their daily activities.

Maintenance: Helping with the general cleaning and upkeep of the house

The volunteers will work in morning or afternoon shifts, with one day off per week. Shifts are adapted to the specific needs of the house. To ensure full coverage, the two volunteers present during the same period will not share the same shift or the same day off (exceptions may be considered and evaluated by the team if necessary).

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

They stay in the same shelter house, in a single or double room with basic conditions.

Interacting with the local people can be challenging due to the location, but despite being on the other side of the river, there is good bus coverage to reach the city center (Salamanca, which has many attractions to visit) or you can go on foot.

Lage und Freizeit

Salamanca is a historic city in western Spain, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture. The city is home to the University of Salamanca, founded in 1134, making it one of the oldest universities in Europe. The iconic Plaza Mayor, a grand square surrounded by arcades, is the heart of the city and a popular gathering spot.

Salamanca’s architectural gems include the Old Cathedral (Catedral Vieja) and New Cathedral (Catedral Nueva), which showcase Romanesque and Baroque styles. Other highlights are the Casa de las Conchas, a beautiful building adorned with scallop shells, and the Puente Romano (Roman Bridge), dating back to the 1st century.

The city has a vibrant atmosphere, thanks to its large student population, and is filled with cafes, bars, and restaurants offering both traditional Spanish cuisine and modern dishes. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Salamanca is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, with its charming streets, squares, and gardens making it a delightful place to explore.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

Cáritas Salamanca has a shelter for people with HIV and other illnesses, where it also covers basic needs and offers the possibility of starting a personal recovery process that allows individuals to achieve the highest possible degree of autonomy.

Volunteering participation takes place in the shelter for people with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses, offering the opportunity to experience volunteering in a social project, coming closer to a specific reality of exclusion.

Arbeit

The purpose of this workcamp is to participate in the recovery of old paths and learn the history of the Pyrenees, learn about culture and nature, and participate in both with different activities of preservation and conservation.
The technical work that will be carried out in the field of work consists, in general, in different tasks related to the recovery of the old roads of the valley.
The following are the main ones:
- Road clearing: mowing grass, bushes, etc., which grow in the spring to leave the roads comfortably passable on foot.
- Remove stones from the road: pick up stones that have fallen on the road and set them aside in an orderly manner at the edges to make the passage passable.
- Rebuild the simplest sections of dry stone wall: rebuild those walls that have fallen and are easily rebuildable.
- Improved signage with paint: review the tracking marks of the paths with paint according to the instructions given to us by the "Alt Pirineu" Natural Park.
- Improved paved sections: some trails have cobbled sections that have worn out; redo these sections in order to maintain the cobbled areas.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The accommodation is in a terrain called "La Solana”, near the village of Vilamur.
It's a camping area in the middle of nature, so you should definitely be eager to have a (somehow) wild experience!
Volunteers will spend their days at a campsite, and they will camp and sleep in tents; usually there are 3-4 participants per tent and no separation by gender.
Tents are basic; mainly, there’s only space for sleeping or lying down. Tents will be provided by the organization, and volunteers will sleep on a mattress on the floor. Participants must bring their own sleeping bag (it’s highly recommended to bring a good one, as in the Pyrenees it can be cold at night even in summer) and mattress.
There is 1 dry toilet near the campsite and 1 shower available in the camp with COLD WATER (we strongly recommend bringing eco- and biodegradable shower gel or shampoo). There is no hot water in the camp. No gender separation for showers in the river; previous agreements will be done with the group.
The volunteers are in charge of cooking and keeping the area clean and safe: they will be split into groups, each group will prepare the food for one day, and they will be rotating every day, so they will be camping in the field and cooking by themselves.
In general, lunch and dinner will be warm meals, but exceptions can be made in case of a trekking route or spending the whole day out of the campsite.
There’s no Wi-Fi at the campsite. However, there's a mobile phone signal in the area, so you should be able to connect to 4G almost everywhere.
IMPORTANT: There is no electricity to charge phones in the terrain, but there is the possibility to charge the phones in the village of Vilamur.

Lage und Freizeit

The workcamp is done in a calm and peaceful area of the Catalan Pyrenees called “Vall de Siarb”.
This place is located inside one of the natural Park in Catalonia (Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu) and the village belongs to Soriguera municipality.
For more information about this part of the Pyrenees, you can visit the website http://parcsnaturals.gencat.cat/en/alt-pirineu/index.html
Some leisure activities:
- Talk by the members of the Parc de l'Alt Pirineu about the trails and paths and the biodiversity of the Park.
- Visit to the bunkers: visit to the Civil War bunkers in the Coll de Sant Joan, about 4 km from the camp. The context of the Civil War and the specific situation of Pallars Sobirà and the Vall de Siarb will be explained.
- Visit to the Despoblat de Santa Creu de Llagunes: guided visit to the medieval Despoblat where we can see the strategic location of the town, its function during the medieval period and why the wall, the watchtowers.
- Thematic tour of the mills: circular itinerary of the mills, where you can see the remains of two flour mills and a hydroelectric power plant that supplied electricity to several villages in the Vall de Siarb.
- Itinerary of Tornafort: circular excursion that will allow us to get to know the paths of the surroundings visiting the picturesque town of Tornafort.
- Vilamur itinerary: circular excursion that will take us from the land to the village of Vilamur, then towards Soriguera, and following the river we will return to the camp.
- Orientation activity: the group will be divided into different teams and based on a series of clues related to the environment they will have to decipher an enigma or map. This dynamic enhances group cohesion and organization, agility and skills.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The organization in charge of the work camp is "Balmes Blancs", a non-profit association created in 2010 with the aim of offering unique activities in nature with the aim of presenting new places and new people and deepening, thus, the knowledge of the Catalan territory.
Since its inception, it has organized various activities such as snowshoe outings with animal footprints, astronomical discoveries, kayak outings to discover marine fauna, rafting drops, hiking in the mountains, or leveling and safety workshops, among others.
In 2013 the association began working in the Siarb Valley. From that moment on, Balmes Blancs began to focus its activities around this valley and, among other things, guided visits to the "Despoblat de Santa Creu" de Llagunes, visits to the trenches on the Pallars front and to the Vilamur bunkers, discoveries of geology, and activities of flora and fauna in the environment.
At the same time, the refuge promotes hiking with the creation of signposted routes around Llagunes, as well as a series of actions aimed at recovering the heritage of the Siarb Valley and discovering rural life in Pallars Sobirà and in the rest of the Pyrenees.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The meeting point will be on the 29th of June in the bus station of La Pobla de Segur at 18:30h.
From there, the hosting organization will take you to Vilamur by private bus (which will cost 6 euros per person, so please bring some cash with you).
. By public transportation: From Barcelona’s Airport, volunteers have to go to the bus station in Barcelona called Estació del Nord.

Arbeit

"Escoleta Penáguila: Kids, English and Elders" is a community-centered initiative where a team of 6–7 international volunteers will actively support the rural municipality of Penáguila by bridging different generations.

During the mornings, the main responsibility of the volunteer team will be running the local summer school (Escoleta) for approximately 15 local children. In this shift, volunteers will design and implement non-formal educational activities, interactive games, sports, and creative workshops entirely in English to promote language acquisition and intercultural awareness in a fun environment.

During some afternoons, the project focuses on social inclusion and intergenerational solidarity through visits to the local elderly care home. In these sessions, the team will provide companionship, facilitate soft-mobility dynamics, and organize shared activities to connect the youth with the senior residents of the village.

Additionally, as this is a rural community project, participants must maintain a highly flexible attitude and be fully open to helping with any other community support tasks that may arise. This includes collaborating with the local town hall, supporting small municipal events, or assisting in environmental and logistical activities to improve the well-being of Penáguila and its inhabitants.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will stay in a basic apartment with bunk beds, a kitchen, and bathrooms. The apartment also has free access to the local pool for relaxing during free time.

Food will be provided by De Amicitia. Volunteers will have the opportunity to cook together with the campleaders, creating meals as a team.

Lage und Freizeit

Tucked away in the heart of the Alicante mountains, Penàguila is a small but enchanting village that offers a perfect blend of nature, culture, and tranquility. Surrounded by olive trees, almond groves, and pine forests, it provides an ideal setting for volunteers looking to disconnect from the fast-paced city life and immerse themselves in authentic rural Spain.

Penàguila is known for its rich historical heritage, featuring a charming old town with narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses, and remnants of medieval walls. It’s a peaceful and welcoming community where locals live at a slower pace, and nature is just a few steps away.

One of the highlights of the village is the Jardín de Santos, a 19th-century botanical garden that once flourished with exotic species and romantic pathways. Although partially damaged by a recent fire, it remains a symbol of local pride and will be the focus of restoration during the volunteer project.

For leisure, volunteers can enjoy:

Nature walks and hiking through the Phytoclimatic Route, which connects the village to the botanical garden and offers stunning views of the surrounding valley.

Cultural visits to the local museum, which showcases the village's agricultural and historical past.

A trip to the nearby Safari Aitana, a drive-through animal park with giraffes, elephants, and lions.

Weekly intergenerational visits to the local senior center, promoting cultural exchange and community bonding.

Volunteers will find Penàguila to be a place where they can connect with nature, engage with the local community, and contribute to a meaningful environmental project—all while enjoying the serene beauty and simple joys of rural Mediterranean life.

Arbeit

The work will be environmental and will consist of maintenance work on the island, fire surveillance, information work and visitor awareness, and specific interventions to improve the park in collaboration with the environmental service workers. Cleaning of the South Island (the only island not communicated by passenger boat). (This activity depends on the park, it cannot be carried out in all shifts).

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will stay in tents, which have canvas-based bunks for resting. The facility has barracks for dining and showers. There is no washing machine (hand wash).

Lage und Freizeit

This work camp is located on the Illas Cíes, specifically on the Island of Monteagudo (north) at the mouth of the Ría de Vigo, in the municipality of Vigo (Pontevedra).

The Cíes Islands form part, together with the Cortegada, Sálvora and Ons archipelagos, of the Galician Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park.

The ecological value of its marine environment is incalculable since within its waters some of the most representative examples of Atlantic marine ecosystems are preserved, which treasure great biological wealth.

The marine environment of the Park is a great mosaic of different habitats that support an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna. There are important communities such as brown algae forests (Saccorhiza polyschides and Laminaria spp.), or those associated with seabeds such as those of Mäerl, and we also find habitats defined as of community or priority interest within the Habitats Directive of the European Union, such as reefs, lagoons or shallow sandbanks permanently covered with seawater.

The terrestrial environment is strongly influenced by the proximity of the ocean, highlighting the dune systems, the cliffs and the gorse or heather thickets.

Also in the emerged part of the islands we find habitats considered to be of community interest or priority by the directives, such as the gray dunes, the aerohaline coastal scrub or the southern Atlantic humid heather scrub.

The main problem for conservation in this environment has been human pressure. Especially in the Cíes Islands, eucalyptus, pine or acacia plantations have displaced the native vegetation in several areas. The eradication of these native species is a very long-term process that is already being worked on and the results of which will be seen gradually.

Actions are currently being carried out to develop adequate management of public use, waste from the islands, navigation and anchoring of boats, fishing, shellfishing, etc.

Sport fishing and underwater fishing are prohibited within the limits of the National Park.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES:
• Sport activities.
• Diving.
• Group dynamics.
• Guided routes.
• Workshops.
• Theme evenings.
• Environmental activities.

Arbeit

The young volunteers will participate in the maintenance of the Sant Antoni Tower space in the municipality of Jesús (Tortosa, Catalonia). This is a meeting place for young people from different international programs. Young people are not only accommodated in this space, but also workshops, exchanges, and long-term stays are held, starting in 2021.
The house has a capacity for 35 people. The exteriors are being conditioned so that they can be used for different purposes: ecological gardens to employ young people, leisure areas, areas for ornamental plants, etc. With this project, the young participants will help with its maintenance: repaint doors, make posters, paint fences, and make stone constructions, as well as be able to get to know the local community where the project is developed in collaboration with other local partners.
The main focus of the work will be repairing an ancient stone well that supplies water to the house. The well is built using the traditional dry-stone technique.
Volunteers will help restore its structure, paint the upper part, and improve access to it, since it is also one of the most beautiful and emblematic features of Torre Sant Antoni.
Volunteers will conduct the following tasks:
- Break off the damaged stone from the wall and clean it.
- Replace it using mortar.
- Repaint the columns with the house’s color.
- Build a wooden door for the motor.
- Paint the railings that provide access to the well.
- Carry out a social action in the municipality, either environmental or social, in order to reconnect with the local community.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The volunteers will share space with other international long-term volunteers in Sant Antoni’s Tower.
The tower is composed of different rooms where long term volunteers live, the group of volunteers from the workcamp will be able to share rooms in bunk beds after another group is leaving , and also sleep in big tents outside with mattresses.
All the facilities are shared with both males and females. As the house is in a natural place, you need to consider that there will be insects and mosquitos.
The volunteers will sleep in 2 rooms of 6 people (in bunk beds), and others can sleep on mattresses in big tents. In case of rain, mattresses from the tent can be placed into the rooms.
No differences between gender in the rooms and participants must bring a pillow and thin cover for nights. In the house, there are 4 showers and 4 toilets, and outside, there are 2 showers.
During the day it can be really hot, so volunteers need to be prepared with hats, sunscreen, and long, thin clothes.
Participants will share toilets, kitchens, and other common spaces with other local volunteers.
Food needs to be cooked in teams of 3-4 people sharing kitchen or spaces outside the house.
WIFI is available and there is no washing machine but laundry in the nearby village of Roquetes.
The place is beautiful but very hot during summer, so please make sure to come with an open mind since when it’s hot we need to adapt. All the technical tasks are outside under the sun, so please, join this workcamp if you don’t care about getting your hands dirty.

Lage und Freizeit

Jesús is a decentralized municipal entity that belongs to the municipality of Tortosa and is next to Roquetes village. Tortosa is close to the mountains and to the seaside (20 minutes by train) in Ampolla. What is the temperature? It depends on the year, but generally the volunteers need to be ready for hot temperatures.
Some leisure activities the volunteers will do:
- Traditional cooking and laughter therapy workshop.
- Workshop of bird boxes.
- Excursion to the beach (train paid by the volunteer)
- Group knowledge activities and movie passes.
- Local swimming pool (the entrance should be paid by the volunteer)
- Kayak (cost paid by the volunteer)
- Visit to the local free museums: https://agenda.tortosa.cat/event/espai-museu-joan-panisello/2023-06-21/ https://lajota.cat/el-cijte/

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The meeting point will be July 2nd at Torre Sant Antoni in Jesús, Tortosa, from 15:00h to 20:00h. (https://goo.gl/maps/qmAVJManm6t8Gshu5)
On the day of the arrival, the organization can be reached at +34 657 288 485 / +34 673 48 69 81. Please inform Obre’t Ebre if you encounter any issues or delays.
During the day of your arrival, the organization will be available on this mobile number, +34 657 288 485, in the WhatsApp group to which volunteers will be added before arrival, and by e-mail at obretebre@sinergia.org.
In case you can’t let them know because your mobile is not working properly, you can connect to Wi-Fi for free at the Barcelona airport.
Please inform Obre't Ebre in case you have any complications by e-mail mentioned above, so we can be aware.
The volunteers will go from Barcelona to Tortosa and Jesús as their final destination.
. By Bus (Barcelona Airport–Tortosa): From Barcelona Airport Terminal 1, there is a bus to Tortosa bus station, located near Parking Exit C. If the volunteers arrive at Terminal 2, they can take the green shuttle bus to Terminal 1. It runs every 6–7 minutes, 24 hours a day, is free of charge, and takes about 10–15 minutes.
The bus to Tortosa is operated by HIFE (https://www.hife.es/) and takes approximately 2 hours. Volunteers can check exact departure times from Terminal 1 on www.hife.es. Tickets can be purchased online (be careful if your flight is delayed) or from the vending machines near Parking C. Each ticket costs 23€, and please, keep them.
Volunteers will spend only about 15 minutes on this bus from the airport because it will take you only on the borders of Barcelona. Once near Barcelona’s borders, volunteers will board another HIFE bus to reach Tortosa Main Bus Station or Tortosa–Peaje.
If the bus stops at Tortosa–Peaje (10 minutes from Tortosa), volunteers will need to transfer to another bus to reach the town center. It may seem a bit complicated at first, but don’t worry.
The bus driver will usually announce if passengers need to change at Tortosa–Peaje, and volunteers can also ask the driver at any time to confirm the correct connection.

This camp involves two distinct activities. The first is the study and exploration of the legends and stories of the city of Huesca. This work will be carried out through visits to museums and historical buildings where the events took place. The second activity is the creation, design, and execution of a theatrical tourist route through the city's historic center, where the performance must be in Spanish.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The residence that will house the volunteers has a total of twelve rooms, distributed as follows: three triple rooms, four double rooms, and three single rooms, allowing for comfortable organization adapted to the group's needs. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and television, ensuring the comfort and rest of the participants during their stay.
Accommodation is offered on a full-board basis, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all prepared in the residence, guaranteeing a balanced and adequate diet throughout the day. Regarding maintenance and hygiene, the residence provides a room cleaning service four times a week, as well as a linen change twice a week. However, volunteers are expected to actively participate in daily cleaning tasks and activities related to the dining room, thus fostering coexistence, shared responsibility, and teamwork. The rules of operation and organization will be established and explained at the beginning of the volunteer camp.
The residence has approximately one full bathroom for every three rooms. Among the common areas, the residence offers free Wi-Fi throughout and a fully equipped kitchenette with refrigerators, a freezer, a microwave, an air fryer, a kettle, a toaster, a sandwich maker, and other small appliances for shared use. Volunteers also have free access to washing machines and dryers, complimentary fresh water dispensers, and vending machines for soft drinks and coffee (available for purchase), ensuring a comfortable, functional stay adapted to the group's daily routine.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served at the Residence where participants are staying, at the following times: breakfast at 8:30 a.m., lunch at 2:00 p.m., and dinner at 9:00 p.m. Meals will be healthy and balanced, cooked daily at the Residence by its catering team. On days with excursions or very busy schedules outside the Residence, lunch may be replaced with a picnic consisting of a sandwich and fruit. This will be an exceptional circumstance. The menu can be adapted to meet dietary needs or preferences.

https://www.irj.es/albergues/albergues-2/35-alfaro

FOOD: Youth Hostel has a chef, who will be the responsible for the realization of lunch and dinner.

Lage und Freizeit

lfaro is a Spanish municipality belonging to the autonomous community of La Rioja (Spain). It is located in the east of the province, in La Rioja Baja, being the capital of the region to which it gives its name and the largest municipality in all of La Rioja; it borders the Foral community of Navarra. As of January 1, 2021, it had a population of 9,562 inhabitants according to INE data, being the sixth town with the highest number of inhabitants after Logroño, Calahorra, Arnedo, Haro and Lardero. The Ebro River runs through the north of the municipality, where the Alhama River flows into it after going around Alfaro to the west.

Located in the Rioja Baja region, 71 kilometres from Logroño, the municipality is crossed by the Basque-Aragonese motorway (AP-68), the N-232 national road between pK 331 and 344, the N-113 national road (Ágreda-Valtierra) and the regional roads LR-285, which links Rincón del Soto with Corella, LR-287, which connects with Corella, LR-288, which goes to Castejón, and LR-289, which connects with Grávalos.

The north of the town is dominated by the banks of the River Ebro, which runs down from Milagro towards Castejón through the Sotos de Alfaro Nature Reserve. To the south of the town runs the Canal de Lodosa, which is used for irrigation. The River Alhama enters the territory from Corella and passes through the town before flowing into the Ebro. To the south-west rises the Sierra de Yerga, which reaches 1,101 m on the border with Autol and Grávalos. Finally, Mount Tambarría is located to the east of the town, with an altitude of 374 m. The altitude therefore ranges from 1,101 m in the Sierra de Yerga to 270 m on the banks of the Ebro. The town centre rises at 303 m above sea level.

The Sotos del Ebro were declared a Nature Reserve on May 25, 2001. It covers a protected area of 476 ha made up of riparian forests. It is one of the last areas of La Rioja where we can find this type of forest made up of willows, poplars, cottonwoods, alder trees, ash trees, elms, among others.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES - LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
Weekend get-together in Arnedillo. Thermal pools.
Arnedillo via ferrata.

Main tasks of the volunteer camp:
Your volunteering experience will be structured around three main areas:
• Setting up the Protected Succulent Plant Corner: land study, soil preparation, space design, installation of the small openable greenhouse, and creation of plant identification signage.
• Design and creation of butterfly oases: planning spaces that encourage the presence of pollinating insects and participating in workshops about their ecological importance and our environmental responsibility.
• Participation in a program of activities, games, and group dynamics aimed at reflecting on how we inhabit the planet, promoting coexistence between cultures and species, and exploring sustainable alternatives through Agroart, creativity, and collective creation.
Join our camp if you feel that…
Do you love nature and want to truly take care of it?
If you’re eager to learn by doing, work as part of a team, and take part in a collective project that leaves a positive impact, this camp is for you.
You will take part in the creation of a Protected Succulent Plant Corner, where we will work together to set up a small openable greenhouse — from studying the land and soil needs to designing the space and creating plant signage.
You will also participate in the design and creation of butterfly oases, learning about the importance of insects in ecosystems and reflecting on how our actions influence the health of the planet.
If you enjoy debating, creating, and exploring alternative ways of inhabiting the world through Agroart, creativity, and play, here you will find an enriching and transformative experience.
Why take part in our camp?
Because it is an opportunity to experience active, participatory volunteering with real impact. You will not only help improve spaces that support biodiversity, but also become part of a collective reflection process about our relationship with nature.
Through a “learning by doing” approach, we will combine practical work with spaces for dialogue about environmental footprint, coexistence between cultures and species, and the solutions that different civilizations have developed over time to live in balance with their environment.
It is an experience that brings together nature, critical thinking, creativity, and community living — where everyone contributes and learns through action.

Beyond the vineyard: the dry stone heritage workcamp is a camp based on dry stone works, which were declared cultural heritage by UNESCO.
Participants are going to recover a huge stone wall in a vineyard area and also a shepherd's stone hut. They are also going to work in a Civil War trench area in order to make them more accessible to visitors.
Subirats is a rural area with little towns and villages, so the impact is quite big. Participants will have the support of experts from CESUB Subirat's historical study group, and will meet local people to collaborate in the conservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the area. The working hours will be in the mornings from 8:00 to 13:00 from Monday to Friday. There would be a break in the middle of the morning to rest and have a snack. However, depending on weather conditions, the schedule can be modified. Weekends and off-work hours are organized for visits and self-managed activities.
The technical tasks will be:
- Restoration and maintenance of the dry stone margins between the cores of Ordal and Saint Paul of Ordal. -Restoration and maintenance of the remnants of trenches from the Civil War that are in the same area.
- Restoration of a shepherd's hut located near the Archaeological area of Subirats.
- Location of dry stone constructions using the Wikipedra portal.
-Maintenance Tasks in Saint Paul's Ordal (maintenance of public banks and children's park)
- Build and place nest boxes.
The rest of the time will be for leisure, swimming pool, and other activities, and weekends will be organized for visits and other activities.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

The participants of the workcamp will be installed in “ZER Montcau”, a multifunctional space of a school in the center of L’Ordal.
There is a large patio, toilets, indoor showers, a kitchen, and a large room where they will sleep. Volunteers will sleep indoors in bunk beds, all together with no gender separation. Volunteers need to bring a thin sleeping bag, pillow, and bed linen.
Volunteers will also have the pool near the school, and because the area has high temperatures in summer, bring cotton and fresh clothes.
The hosting organization highly recommends long-sleeve shirts and t-shirts for working hours and a hat to protect themselves from the sun, and the volunteers will have the chance to go to the pool near the accommodation.
There will be catering providing the food for the volunteers, and snacks and fruit will be provided during breaks. There are vegetarian/vegan options, also other cultural reasons, and any allergy options.

Lage und Freizeit

The privileged geographical situation, a plain protected by mountains by the sea, the mild climate of the Mediterranean coast, and a permeable land, rich in phosphorus, make the region of El Penedès the main producer of wines and cavas in Catalonia. This wine history goes back to at least the 4th century B.C.
The vineyard structures are thus a distinctive cultural feature of the area, and they have been refined over time. The Subirats area, halfway between the Vilafranca plain and the Ordal mountains, has steeper terrain than the rest of the region. That is why, in this area, the structure of dry stone walls and constructions, which are necessary for leveling the ground and plotting the vineyards, is quite important.
Free time and leisure activities will include group games, workshops, and cultural activities to learn more about Catalan culture and the vineyard tradition in the area. Participants will visit cultural and historical areas and museums in Subirats, a wine and champagne factory, and also Vilafranca del Penedès, the Catalan’s wine capital. They will also visit the city of Barcelona, which is only 45km away from the accommodation area, and will participate in the rehearsals of a group of “castellers”, learning how Catalan human towers are made.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The organization in charge of the workcamp is "Fundació Catalana de l'Esplai" well-known in the volunteering field of Catalonia, as it has been educating children and youth, strengthening leisure organizations and the third sector, improving the environment, and promoting social inclusion and citizenship, with a desire for change since over 30 years ago. The organization organizes a wide range of leisure time and education activities, such as school camps, training camps, or training for trainers. In 2024, Fundesplai projects reached 417.664 people, and every year more than 500 took part in workcamps.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

The meeting point will be in Ordal on 18th of July, in front of the local school "El Montcau d’Ordal" (Del Pi street, 1, 08759, Ordal). The meeting time is 15:00h, but the camp leaders will be there waiting for the volunteers from 12:00h.
How to arrive at the meeting point by public transportation:

Arbeit

Each morning, you will lead 4-hour workshops for children at the nursery focusing on environmental awareness, digital detox, cooperation, and cultural respect, while afternoons are dedicated to preparing the following day's activities. The participants range from 3 to 17 years old, although the majority are usually between 3 and 6, and these workshops culminate in a community theatre performance about environmental protection, such as forest fire prevention or any other green theme chosen by the team, using recycled crafts created during the week as scenery. As local English levels are generally low, volunteers are encouraged to inspire the children through language, and those who speak Spanish are asked to use it to connect with the community, taking the initiative to foster a "culture of peace" and a great atmosphere in Jódar.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will stay at the municipal nursery. Living conditions are basic: please bring a sleeping bag (mats provided, but check availability first). The center includes toilets, showers, a washing machine, and free access to the municipal pool.

Meals: Usually, volunteers cook their own meals. However, we hope to have a professional chef for lunch again this year!
Note: To promote sustainability, the group will have one "Vegan Day" during the project.

Lage und Freizeit

Jódar is a village located close to Jaén. The main economic activity is agriculture and it is surrounded by the Natural Park of Sierra Magina which is a natural area with the high-quality landscape, pure and nearly virgin. Volunteers will have excellent possibilities to visit Cordoba/Granada or Seville and other spots like Jaén (Arabic baths and cathedral), Ubeda and Baeza. There is also a chance of doing a hiking route through the Serrezuela and the Sierra Magina and even to have a parapente experience in Pegalajar.

In a workcamp we also dedicate some time to a study part. It is an activity of non-formal learning, where you can gain new knowledge or form new opinions on different problems; all this is done in a relaxed and entertaining way.
The intercultural evening is a good way of intercultural learning. In every camp there is one evening, when all participants present their country in a relaxed way, making presentation, watching photos, telling stories, tasting typical dishes, drinks and sweets, dances etc. Please, have this evening in your mind while preparing your luggage to share a piece of your culture with the rest of volunteers.
The volunteers will have access to the local swimming pool of the town and will be able to enjoy their free times in the poolside.
As the local transportation is not very well connected, it is not easy to organize some trips to the big cities but depending on the volunteers, it could be possible to organize some trips to Málaga, Sevilla or Granada in the weekends. Keep in mind that De Amicitia is not financing your leisure time activities.

This cultural volunteer camp will support the organization of a Festival of National Tourist Interest, the "Festa da Istoria", which highlights the cultural nature of the festival.
In this cultural celebration, history provides an insight into trades that are now in decline or forgotten, such as blacksmiths, carpenters, coopers, stonemasons, basket makers, and a long list of popular artisan traditions that have greatly influenced the economic history of Galicia, not to mention the importance of Ribeiro wine.
The work to be carried out can be classified into two areas:
A) Preparation of the ornamental elements for the "Festa da Istoria" decoration, focusing on the restoration of outdated or deteriorated materials, as well as the expansion of resources as requested.
B) Development of tourist resources to revitalize the town of Ribadavia beyond the "Festa da Istoria." A live role-playing event will be designed, in which the volunteers from the volunteer camp will design a story that they will then act out, interacting directly with local participants who join the activity.

Please note: This work camp does not coincide with the "Festa da Istoria," which will take place a few weeks after the camp ends. The activities are focused on the preparatory phase of the festival.
