Lage und Freizeit

La Flor de Santiago is a very small village located about 15 minutes away from Paraíso, Cartago province and around 35 minutes by bus away from the city of Cartago in the province of Cartago.

The weather is really rainy during rainy season (from May to Dec) which makes also the place to be fresh, by having temperatures of 10¨C to 28¨C average. During dry season the place is still fresh as it is located in the mountains of the province of Cartago (around 1400 meters from the sea level).

From the lookouts in the area, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Orosi Valley and the imposing Turrialba Volcano, you can also visit the National parks (Irazú Volcano or Guayabo). You can hike along forest trails, interact with farm animals, and enjoy the relaxing rural setting.

During the nights, we will also have cultural nights, spaces to share with the other volunteers.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

ACI Costa Rica in English stands for the Costa Rican Intercultural Association (known in Spanish as Asociación Costarricense de Interculturalidad).Founded in 1967, it is a non-profit organization focused on promoting cross-cultural experiences, international volunteering, and non-formal education for global citizenship.

We believe that these activities contribute to solidarity and friendship between the societies of our world. As well as sustainable human development and the possibility for our participants to grow and become global citizens: independent, multilingual, with intercultural compression and open mindedness.

We partner with local projects that operate year-round, which allows us to send volunteers with great flexibility throughout the year

One such project is Finca La Flor: a project we have been collaborating with for a long time. Finca La Flor is a nonprofit organization founded over 25 years ago, designed as a project that integrates three interconnected areas: regenerative and agricultural practices, environmental education, and culture and well-being.

The project has always been nourished by the knowledge of the locals, who know well the crops grown in the area, the planting season and the area and a host of other details that helped to recover the land on the farm. The project has always had a social objective.
In the past, we have collaborated with schools, colleges, universities, and families to develop activities that raise awareness about the environmental and social impact of human actions and to explore more respectful and harmonious alternatives for living.

Right now, the project needs our help. The project is currently in a phase of reactivation, gradually retaking and strengthening the principles that have historically shaped farm; living in harmony with nature, fostering community, encouraging conscious use of resources, and promoting sustainable and socially inclusive practices. All of this in a well-being and cultural enriching environment. With ACI's partnership, we have decided to develop our first Workcamp in Costa Rica. Two weeks of impact, nature and intercultural living in Costa Rica.

Farm La Flor is a space to share moments, knowledge, experiences, to deepen in the present moment and to live day by day in a simple way and in connection with nature.

Anreise zum Treffpunkt

We will pick you up at the airport. If you have different plans before arrival, you can let us know and we can set up a meeting point either in Cartago or San José.

Weitere Infos

The extra fee includes private transportation from the airport on August 10th.

As our programs are independently organized and do not receive financial support from partner organizations or external institutions, participation costs may be higher than those of a typical workcamp. A significant part of the fee is directly allocated to supporting the local project, its activities, and the community involved.

Anforderungen

  • Basic knowledge of Spanish and / or English.
  • Interest in regenerative practices, organic gardening, and responsible animal care.
  • It is important that the person is open to share as there are always many visitors of all ages on the farm.
  • We also ask our volunteers to be aware of the amount of waste they generate. At the Finca we try to re-use everything and if it is not possible, we recycle it.
  • It is very important to us that visitors do not leave any belongings on the farm that they no longer
use (old clothes and/or shoes, old shoes, etc.).
  • The work on the farm is physical, so it is important to be very careful when performing the tasks for example not to hurt yourself, especially when handling tools.
  • It is essential that volunteers have insurance
