Arbeit

During this workcamp, your tasks will be diverse, combining manual, artistic and pedagogical work = From Pedagogy to Art”.
A major part of your experience will be supporting our Youth Camps, which focus on art, gospel music, and intercultural encounters. With 70 to 120 children and teenagers attending each of the three camps, you will interact with kids from various backgrounds, join their activities, and take on responsibility by leading small groups in daily tasks like catering and cleaning. We encourage you to bring your own fresh ideas by preparing a small workshop in advance—whether musical, athletic, or artistic—and to share a piece of your own culture through a creative presentation involving food, games, or pictures.
In addition to the youth work, you will contribute to our Artistic Project: Shaping the "House of Friendship." This area, featuring an old tent and several caravans, was originally renovated in 2015/16 as a symbol of hope and a safe space for refugees. Together with a team of international students from the Himmelsfels College, you will help bring new concepts to life. We will construct, paint, and decorate the site to ensure it remains a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Life on the mountain is simple and authentic. You will stay on our Campsite and sleep in caravans, sharing rooms with fellow volunteers. Please remember to bring a sleeping bag, as well as warm clothes and raingear, as summer nights in Germany can get quite chilly.

Lage und Freizeit

The study portion of the camp focuses on the intersection of tradition and modernity, as well as migration and "welcoming culture" in Germany. Working at Himmelsfels is all about fostering encounters between people of different backgrounds. In your free time, you can explore the historic village of Spangenberg or visit the nearby city of Kassel, famous for the "Documenta" art festival and the UNESCO World Heritage "Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe."

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The Himmelsfels (Heaven’s Rock) in Spangenberg is a unique Christian foundation located on a scenic mountain site. Our mission is to create spaces for intercultural and ecumenical exploration, motivating young people to live a life defined by equality and shared values. We especially welcome volunteers who are eager to experience and support a community shaped by Christian spirituality. For more impressions, feel free to visit our website at www.himmelsfels.de.
