While education, helps us to develop it also enables people to acquire skills, knowledge, develop positive attitude and values which are fundamental necessities for a sustainable future. As a volunteer for Regular Teaching you will find it rewarding to teach spoken English, basic Math, Health & Hygiene Awareness, Environmental Education and conducting Co-curricular activities with local schools. The schools teach using Kanndada AS its primary Medium but lacks English Teaching Staff. The main aim of this project is to support the faculty and bring an international dimension to learning.
The LTV volunteers will be given opportunity to understand the social and cultural aspects of the community/Project they work. The volunteers will be given experience through interactions, workshops, exchange of ideas, baseline and endline survey of the projects with the support of the mentor. At the end of their projects the volunteers will present to the Universities about the outcome
and impact of their projects. The project activity will consist of community service, development Learning, Cultural exchange, Project and personal evaluation.
Some of the tasks include –
• Assist during the learning of English as a language using creative teaching methods, encourage and develop learning levels and cognitive skills of the students
• Assist during extra-curricular activities, inspire children to learn new languages and different cultures
Additionally following tasks may also require your assistance:
• Develop teaching and learning aids wit low or no cost using locally available material, and facilitate simulation games for the children and the teaching facilities.
Design appropriate tools for development and set certain criteria for assessment of children’s learning levels and cognitive skills, Individual goal setting for children with learning disability, lesson planning etc.
Develop teaching-learning methods and pass the methods (through the Final Evaluation/Report) to future volunteers with a view to creating long-term improvements.
The volunteers are encouraged to bring creative ideas to initiate new activities in the school, e.g.:- for environment, organization or for computer education.
It is important for the children to feel the love, care and concern from your part, as you will be interacting with them every day. If you have interesting ideas in teaching that includes games, songs, arts, crafts, sports and athletics for children, then this type of project is for you!
You will be teaching a variety of subjects depending on your personal interests and skills. Volunteers should have a good level of spoken English, and previous experience in teaching children will be useful. Do go through the Info-sheet, which has complete information regarding the individual projects with schedules, and activities
Note: Due to school holidays, these projects will remain closed during the following months: April until May; the month of October; and sometimes in December. During the non-teaching months i.e. during the school holidays, FSL India organizes camps to its LTVs: Summer Projects (in March / April/May) and Winter camps (in October).
