Work

This workcamp is organised by the city of Saint-Quentin and the Isle park located in the national nature reserve of the Isles swamps. The main aim is to remodel the different discovery trails and make them more accessible.

You will not only bond with the local inhabitants and the visitors who take a walk in the reserve, but also refurbish bridges and walkways (woodwork, painting, trail maintenance…). You will also put in place the signage system in order to help the visitors navigate the park and learn more about the species present in the swamps.

Accomodation and food

You will live within the town’s Youth Hostel. You will have access to its shared kitchen and its sanitary facilities, individual cabins which serve as toilets, showers and washbasins (women-only and male-only).

You will share the collective life chores and will prepare meals together.
The local bus network will be the main means of transportation so the group will move in an eco-friendly way.

Location and leisure

Saint Quentin is a town composed of around 50 000 citizens. Located in Northern France, the city is 1h45 away from Paris and 1h away from Amiens, where you will be able to discover the richness of its historical heritage: the largest cathedral in France, the Saint-Leu district, the house of Jules Verne, the floating gardens of the Hortillonnages…

The accommodation is within the youth hostel of the city of Saint Quentin, you will be in the heart of the city and near the construction site for all the activities.

Project hosted by

Saint-Quentin is rich in natural and built heritage. The city is labelled City of Art and History and has a very rich Art Deco heritage visible all throughout the city centre. As for the environment, the city also has a large national nature reserve, that of the Isles marshes, and the Somme river running through the city takes its source a few kilometres away. The youth department of the town hall is eager to help you to discover the town.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is scheduled at Saint-Quentin train station at the end of the afternoon on August 23. The exact meeting time will be given with the info sheet which will be sent at least 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp.

From PARIS, you can take a train from PARIS - Gare Du Nord train station, regular departures are scheduled throughout the day (one train per hour). It is roughly a less than two-hour trip.

The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/

If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress-free travel.

Additional comments

Remember to bring work clothes for the work site as well as tight shoes. There might be aquatic activities so remember to take a bathing suit. For the accommodation, take your sleeping bag. You can also bring specialties, photos, musical instruments: whatever you like and want to share during the workcamp, either with the local population or with the group of volunteers!

On the last day (07/09), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Project hosted by

Vir'Volt stands for InteRnational VolunTeer Village (in French). For 3 years, the organisation has been based in the heart of nature, in the middle of a regional park. By welcoming young people from all over the world each year, the future village is being built around a number of different objectives: getting to know each other and learning from our differences, reflecting and acting together to protect the environment, but also having a positive impact on the surrounding area and people by putting solidarity at the heart of each of our actions. Vir'Volt also aims to become fully eco friendly and sustainable which is reflected in our campsite ; yurts and teepees as rooms, permaculture farming and gardening, water saving projects, reducing and reusing waste. This small village will become great without sacrificing or damaging the surrounding environment whilst always searching better and more eco friendly ways of living.

Directions to meeting point

We will meet you at the association's site, a 15-minute walk from the RER station, on Monday 26th August from 3.30pm. From Paris stations (Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord), take the RER D to Juvisy, then change to the RER D towards Malsherbes.
If your luggage is too heavy and you would like to be picked up at the station by car, please contact the Vir'Volt team BEFORE you arrive (contact details can be found in the route description sent 3 weeks before the start of the project).

Additional comments

This project should not be seen as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should do so before arriving or after the dates of the summer camp.

Work

Discover the village of Avricourt, a small town typical of Picardie!
Come and participate in the renovation of the small church of Avricourt, one of the few churches in the area that survived the First World War.

In the continuity of the masonry work from the previous workcamps you will participate in the renovation of the main wall. You will carry out traditional masonry work on the large facade of the church: (re)jointing the walls, staking, repointing and even laying new bricks and stones. Part of the work may require climbing on scaffolding up to a certain height.

Accomodation and food

The village hall will be at your disposal as a place to live, which includes a well-equipped kitchen (community oven, dishwasher, big fridge etc.). Individual tents will be provided as well as a fallback solution in the village hall in case of bad weather. Please note that only one shower and one toilet will be available on site.

The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising healthy products from local producers.

Location and leisure

Avricourt is located 15 km from Noyon, in the North of Oise. In a central location in Picardie, you can visit Amiens, its cathedral and its “hortillonnages” (floating gardens), Compiegne and its imperial palace, Noyon and its historical centre. You can also hike in the surrounding countryside among cereal fields and small pasture valleys. If you are a nature lover, you could even discover the educational beehive with the school children and the beehives of a small local producer. A concert given by the local band in the church is planned the day before the departure of the volunteers.

Project hosted by

The village of Avricourt is a historical partner of our office. The small village of barely 200 inhabitants does everything in its power to give the best welcome to the volunteers: communal meals, invitations to eat, donations of jams and other vegetables from the garden are normal in Avricourt. In a nutshell, many exchanges are in prospect, especially since you will organise meetings and animations in the village and at the school with the help of the animation team.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is scheduled at NOYON train station at the end of the afternoon on August 30. The exact meeting time will be given with the info sheet which will be sent at least 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp.

From PARIS, you can take a train from PARIS - Gare Du Nord train station, regular departures are scheduled throughout the day (one train per hour). It is roughly a one-hour trip.

Additional comments

Please bring work clothes for the construction site and tight shoes. For the accommodation in tents please don’t forget your sleeping bag as well as a sleeping mat for more comfort.
You can also bring with you specialties from your country, photos, musical instruments, in short what you like and want to share on this site, either with the local population or with the group!

On the last day (14/09), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Requirements

EU citizens must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Work

Participate to the protection and enhancement of this breathtaking heritage! Within the castle, you will realize various works of restoration of walls (ramparts, towers) using traditional techniques and help maintain the vegetation (clearing bushes, etc.) as well as many other varied tasks. There are no special skills required for the work, it's just an opportunity to learn.
Beyond this work, you will reflect together on sustainable development using traditional techniques in the restoration of the fortress, but also in the daily life of the group. Campleaders will guide you along the project. You will also take part in the touristic activities of the site by welcoming the visitors (tourists and local inhabitants) in the castle and explain the work, show the progress you have been doing the last few weeks! Protecting this piece of heritage takes time, and a lot of energy. Come contribute to its rebuilding !

Accomodation and food

Accommodation is under tents (1 person per tent) at the town stadium lent by the Town Hall. Tents will be provided. You will have to bring other camping material (ground sheet, sleeping bag, etc.). You, volunteer, are actor/actress of your project ! You will manage the tasks of daily life in teams (shopping, cooking, and cleaning). A rotation will be organised by the campleaders to ensure the smooth running of daily life. The objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning!
All together, you will think about how to work, feed everyone, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most environnementaly and human-friendly way.
A building on the field includes a kitchen room, 2 showers and 2 toilets for the group.

Location and leisure

It is a countryside rich with historical heritage, which you will be able to discover by visiting a few of the numerous castles and medieval cities, by hiking, going by bike or canoeing, according to what the leading team and the weather can propose. The inhabitants of the village are used to welcome volunteers from all over the world come every summer. You will pick up bread from the innkeeper Didier, ask for eggs on a Sunday evening to Monique, the weather the next day to Jean-Pascal, show your progress to Jean Louis who is passionate about the castle, you will feast with the fruits and vegetables offered by the local gardeners...and so much more!
The campleaders will prepare games and activities for the group but will also encourage you to propose and build your own activities according to your desires. Bring ideas and be creative !

Project hosted by

Inside a lovely little French village, the castle of Montaigu le Blin is an impressive medieval fortress, classified as Historical Monument. It is located on the top of a hill, overlooking the countryside. Since 2002, volunteers have been participating, every summer, to the restoration of the castle. These last years, the fortress has regained its beauty! Since the 80s, volunteers come every year to restore and protect the castle. These last couple of years, volunteers restored the castle walls using traditional masonry techniques and developped the medieval vegetable garden at the bottom of the Lord's tower. This year, it's your turn to live an experience back in time!

Work

The aim of this project is to renovate the counterscarp wall of the Fort Vauban citadel. The renovation project aims to restore this historic structure in order to preserve its integrity, guarantee the stability of the site and highlight the rich local cultural heritage, following an approach that respects the original characteristics of the wall.
Accompanied by a specialist technical supervisor, you will initially be responsible for removing the vegetation from the facade, then disjointing and repointing with lime mortar. You'll learn a variety of techniques, including traditional masonry.
You will be working mornings of 5 to 6 hours. Dismantling, cleaning, repairing and consolidating the counterscarp wall will be part of the work programme. Come with work clothes or clothes that may be damaged or dirty. We will provide you with safety equipment. No qualifications are required for this project.

Accomodation and food

Group accommodation in tents for 2 people, at the Fouras municipal *** campsite (swimming pool, multi-sports area, WIFI, snack bar...). You must bring your own warm duvet and a pillow; we provide inflatable mattresses. Bicycles are available for use around town. Food will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner (you will have a food budget which the leaders will manage and communicate with you throughout the work camp). Meals will be prepared in turn by you, especially for lunch and dinner, while respecting environmental values and local resources, as well as everyone's culture (hot and cold dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes will be prepared).

Location and leisure

Fouras-les-Bains (17450), 20 km from La Rochelle.

Leisure activities You can enjoy a wide range of activities, including the European Heritage Days, fishing and sailing with the local clubs. The beach, seaside bike rides, beach volleyball and other pleasures are all there for you to discover. You can also visit towns such as La Rochelle and Rochefort. Leisure time and local activities will give you the chance to meet the locals, who are eagerly awaiting your arrival!

Project hosted by

Located on the estuary of the Charente, the Fouras peninsula is home to 3 harbours and 5 beaches on the Atlantic coast. In an idyllic setting overlooking Fort Boyard, the project will involve renovating Fort Vauban, also known as Fort Sémaphore, which is actually the medieval fortified castle of Fouras. It protected the town from invasion by an enemy landing from the ocean. It is surrounded by 17th-century fortifications: platforms, curtain walls and a massive tower. This project is part of the ongoing partnership with the municipality of Fouras and its desire to pursue local development initiatives (including the renovation of the Fort de l'Aiguille), through the intercultural dynamic created by the youth volunteer projects.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is at the Cadoret campsite in Fouras. Bus stop "Cadoret" Line G from Rochefort station between 3 and 6 p.m. The organisers will provide a shuttle service between the station and the accommodation. All the information you need to get there will be in the project roadmap.

Work

Do you want to get involved in a project and feel useful for the protection of nature?
This is a project that takes place on a departmental site where nature lovers like to go for a walk, to find peace and serenity. Some interpretation trails will allow you to become familiar with the flora and fauna. This place is dedicated to welcoming the public, young and old, but also hosts an agropastoral project. Sheep and wild boar will be at your side. You will be offered the opportunity to carry out various landscaping projects to maintain this exceptional site.
You can create wooden games, make benches, build picnic tables and maintain some of the footpaths.

Accomodation and food

You will be accommodated on the departmental domain. Sleeping in individual tents (bring your own sleeping bag and duvet). A marquee will be set up to accommodate the collective life. There are permanent sanitary facilities on the domain. You will share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. A budget will be allocated to the staff and you will take part in the shopping and the preparation of the meals, favouring healthy and local products.

Please note that this is an isolated environment in the middle of nature, with no Wi-Fi or washing machine! Make sure to bring enough clothes with you.

Location and leisure

The departmental domaine de Roussieres is located in the Herault region in the village of Viols-en-Laval, north of Montpellier. Located near an exceptional archaeological site (Cambous is the oldest known archaeological site in France), it is also not far from the river and villages with a remarkable historical heritage. You can also discover the village of St Guilhem le Desert on the route of St Jacques de Compostelle, or take advantage of the outdoor activities available near the estate.

Project hosted by

The Herault department is leading an ambitious and voluntary land policy to protect sensitive natural areas. By acquiring certain plots of land, it allows them to be preserved as part of the compensation measures. This estate welcomes a shepherd and his sheep all year round. It also welcomes discovery classes who wish to learn about ecology and education in the environment and sustainable development. You will be charmed by the estate and the surrounding nature.
This is the eighth consecutive year of partnership with the departmental council de l'Herault.

Directions to meeting point

The meeting point is set at the VIOLS-EN-LAVAL “PEYRE CANES” bus stop, on the 17thof July in the late afternoon. The exact time of the meeting will be communicated with the infosheet, sent at the latest 4 weeks before the beginning of the work.
To reach VIOLS-EN-LAVAL, you will have to go to MONTPELLIER. From MONTPELLIER Saint-Roch train station, you will have to take the tramway line 1, towards mosson, to the OCCITANIE tramway stop (about 20 minutes’ journey). Then from the OCCITANIE tramway stop, you can take a bus 608 to the VIOLS-EN-LAVAL “PEYRE CANES” bus stop (45 minutes’ journey).
More information about the tramway: https://www.tam-voyages.com/index.asp
More info for the buses: https://www.herault-transport.fr/

If possible, please consider using low-carbon transportation (train and bus rather than aeroplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.
The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website:https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/
If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel.

Additional comments

Remember to bring gloves, clothes and closed shoes for the work. Also remember to bring your sleeping bag, sleeping mattress, swimsuit and towel. There is a possibility of heat waves at this time of year. Bring sunglasses, a cap (or similar) and at least SPF 30 sunscreen. The environment is isolated, for nature lovers! Feel free to bring a musical instrument, an object or a culinary speciality from your country that you would like to share with the other participants!
On the last day (20/09), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Work

As part of this project, you'll have the opportunity to keep the "Ressourcerie" project going. Born in 2018 from the will of the commune's inhabitants, its aim is to recycle parts destined for the garbage dump and thus give them a second life. The Ressourcerie now needs more space for its objects. To do this, under the watchful eye of the technical supervisor, you'll build an annex to the Ressourcerie chalet. How will you do it? Start by building a hiker's shelter from the wood stored inside. This wood will be used to build the cottage annex, which you can then cover with salvaged tiles.
In addition to the main activity of the two-week workcamp, small-scale brush-clearing projects can be undertaken in the commune. The aim is to make the paths that surround the village safe, pleasant, and practicable.
Throughout your stay, you'll have the chance to meet the young people of the Ici Hospitalité Migrants collective and share in their morning workcamps.

Accomodation and food

You will be lodged in a dormitory in a community hall in the immediate vicinity of the work site. Mattresses will be provided, so all you need to bring is your sleeping bag. A shower and toilet are on site, and a kitchen and living area will be available nearby. There will be no washing machine available.
Every day, a team of volunteers will cook meals for the whole group, based on menus chosen collectively by you. Particular attention will be paid to seasonal and local produce. Special dietary requirements can be discussed with the group leaders.

Location and leisure

Penne, 35km east of Montauban, 50km west of Albi and 90km north of Toulouse.
At the edge of the Tarn region, you'll enjoy a wide range of leisure activities. Visit medieval villages go hiking, etc. During certain activities, you'll meet the locals and share the experience with them! In the evenings and at weekends, let your imagination run wild and organize evening parties with games, a folk ball and live music. Finally, what better way to share your country's culinary specialties with locals and visitors than by organizing a large international meal, open to all?

Project hosted by

Since 2002, the Citrus association has been organizing international workcamps in the Tarn-et- Garonne region. Every year, dozens of volunteers from all over the world take part in a public-interest work camp in the heart of a village. This year, in the charming Tarn village of Penne, known as an eagle's nest, volunteers from all over the world will be taking part in a collective public interest project, bringing Solidarités Jeunesses' values of sharing, encounter and interculturality to life!

Directions to meeting point

From the airport Toulouse Blagnac, shuttle buses will take you to downtown Toulouse in 30 minutes. You can then take a train to one of the stations nearest to Penne : Caussade (82000) - Montauban (82000).
