The Bukas Palad Cebu Garden Re-invigoration Project is GIED s effort in providing support to BPCFI as one of its Local Partner Institution (LPI) greatly affected by super typhoon Tino in November 2025. This initiative will focus on the restoration and revitalization of their community garden after it was devastated by the aftermath of the said typhoon. The garden serves as a peaceful and nurturing space of their community, through this workcamp, volunteers will come together in the spirit of bayanihan to clean debris, repair damaged areas, prepare the soil and make nursery for seedlings to be planted and revive the space. Beyond the physical restoration, the project symbolizes hope, resilience, and community solidarity. León, Guanajuato is home to a rich diversity of indigenous cultures, including
Purépecha, Wixárika (Huichol), Nahua, Mazahua, Triqui, Hñähñu (Otomí), Tzotzil,
Me’phaa (Tlapaneco), and Na Savi (Mixtec) communities. Despite their cultural,
social, and economic importance, many indigenous people living in urban
areas continue to face significant challenges related to economic
marginalization, social exclusion, and discrimination. As a result, their presence
and contributions often remain invisible within the city.
The challenges affecting indigenous peoples are complex and deeply
interconnected. They stem from historical marginalization and structural
neglect and are further intensified by contemporary issues such as climate
change, organized violence, and limited access to basic services. Across the
world, indigenous communities experience similar realities: systematic
violations of human rights, restricted access to education, healthcare, housing,
and limited opportunities for social participation.
This project aims to strengthen the sense of identity and belonging of
indigenous people living in the city of León, Guanajuato, through actions that
value their cultures, promote intercultural dialogue, and encourage mutual
respect. By recognizing and celebrating indigenous identities, the project seeks
to contribute to the social inclusion and overall well-being of indigenous
communities residing in the city

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks.
These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or run solely by SEEDS. We also aim to involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and carry out their own trash cleaning projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. Volunteers can choose one of the two options below, included as hands-on volunteering activity in the camp:
A day trip combining a visit to the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, a trash collection in the area, and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe.
A day trip to the Reykjanes Peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.
Please note that all activities are subject to weather conditions and the availability of our partners.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking medium to long distances during the cleanups, and during other activities such as sightseeing. Since a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

Location
The Sierra de Los Agustinos is a Protected Natural Area of great environmental importance, as it contributes to water production, aquifer recharge, and carbon capture, and is also part of the migratory route of the monarch butterfly. This ecosystem hosts a high diversity of flora and fauna, including birds, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians, many of which are protected or endemic species. Its vegetation is mainly composed of oak forests and tropical deciduous forest, with hundreds of plant species.

Lasure Time
During their free time, volunteers will be able to enjoy various recreational activities, some options include:
Visits to the town of Jerécuaro, where they can explore the main square, learn about the local culture, and try traditional food
Excursions to Acámbaro, known for its traditional bread and a wider variety of restaurants and shops
Hiking and walking in the sierra, exploring its natural landscapes

Arrangeret af

The Sierra de Los Agustinos, located in Guanajuato, Mexico, is a Protected Natural Area that hosts a rich diversity of flora and fauna and plays a key role in environmental balance and the well-being of nearby communities. However, it faces several challenges, including loss of vegetation, forest fires, pests, erosion, and the impact of unregulated human activities.

Although there are park rangers working to protect the area, the number of personnel and available resources are not enough to address the scale of these challenges. Therefore, the conservation of this natural space requires continuous efforts and the active involvement of more people committed to the environment.

This project aims to support the protection and restoration of the area through the participation of volunteers, who will collaborate in hands-on field activities alongside local rangers. At the same time, it offers an opportunity to learn, raise environmental awareness, and connect meaningfully with nature.

Krav

This camp is open to everyone who is sensible and open-minded. It is crucial for the participants to respect, open to learning and appreciate the conditions of a different culture.
