This project aims to promote cultural intermixing in a disadvantaged neighbourhood of the city. It aims to reinforce social ties between different publics. You will be working with the residents and the involved associations of the neighbourhood in order to propose the activities and organise the closing of the festival.

Logement et nourriture

Don’t forget to bring bedclothes AND (!) a sleeping bag. The group will be accompanied by two camp leaders, one group leader and one technical leader. Together you will participate in the organization of collective life (cleaning, activities, etc.), you will prepare meals in turns using the products bought nearby. We will favour local products and short supply circuits. Tastings of local specialties may also be organised with local producers.

Situation, loisirs

The town of Vaulx-en-Velin is one of the 59 towns that make up the Lyon Metropole. With more than 50 000 residents, it’s the 4th largest town of the agglomeration. It is located in the east of Lyon and has all the amenities related to life in urban area. It is connected with Lyon by tram and offers a dense and varied transport network (buses, bicycle lanes…). The town of Vaulx-en-Velin is made up of many working-class districts, each of them has its own history and specificities. It is located near the Grand Park Miribel Jonage. Residents of Lyon truly appreciate this natural area with a lot of possibilities for walking and swimming. The workcamp will be from 22nd May to 12th June 2019. You will be able to take part in activities during the festival that will be held from 4th to 8th June 2019. During this event for 2 or 3 nights you will be accommodated in the tents (the other nights you will sleep in the student residence). Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag. The tents and floor mats will be provided by Concordia. A lot of cultural and leisure activities will be possible around town and the whole agglomeration. You can also visit Lyon, world capital of gastronomy, whose historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Partenaire

Come and join us in the heart of Lyon Metropole to take part in the project promoting intercultural exchanges and the development of social bonds in a working-class neighbourhood! After the first workcamp accomplished in 2018 in partnership with Est Metropole Habitat, a social landlord in the agglomeration of Lyon, a new project is launched in 2019 in Vaulx-en-Velin. After the first edition in Amsterdam in 2017, the International Social Housing Festival will be held in France, in Lyon, from the 4th to 8th June 2019. This year there are three main topics for the exchanges: “A planet for tomorrow, a city for all, a house for everyone”. It is in this context that you will organise a great Neighbours’ Day that will bring together everyone in a friendly atmosphere for cultural entertainment and games. You will also be encouraged to promote exchanges with residents around the issue of housing to make the connection with the festival.

Situation, loisirs

Location: Clausonne, 5km from the village of Saix, 30 km from Gap, 200 km from Marseille. Leisure activities: Located in a remarkable natural environment, Clausonne is an exceptional place to discover the pleasures of mountain hiking and life in a rural area, with its local markets and producers. In the evenings, at the Ferme du Faï, you will be able to organise games, international meals and project movies. During the workcamp, touristy visits to discover the towns and villages of the region may also be organized.

Partenaire

Let's discover the Clausonne Abbey, a former hamlet situated at 1140 meters of altitude! You will take part to the valorization project of a place that is classified as a Historical Monument. Today, only the remnants of this 12th century building are found as the abbey was destroyed, burnt, rebuilt and finally used as a farm and school in the 19th century. Clausonne remains, however, a remarkable site, sharing the beauty of the wilderness that surrounds it: situated in the heart of a vast «circus» of mountains, the abbey became the route point for numerous hikers that visit the Haute vallée of Maraize. Thus, rather than letting the vegetation once again cover the ruins of Clausonne, 20 years ago, the inhabitants of Saix founded an association in order to highlight and maintain this site. Progressively, thanks to numerous international workcamps that have worked there, this place lives again and is currently open from April to October.

Three large sunbeams enter through the three openings between the three mountains. When the miquelets (Catalan militia men) and Spanish smugglers arrived from Aragon through Rolands Breach, they saw a great light… They named this town light, or Luz.” The municipality has been developing a large project to restore its local heritage, in particular with the organization of international workcamps. With the advice of professional and volunteer technicians of the departmental fishing federation, the river union, the local fishing club and municipal technicians, you will open fishing spots, access to shores, and install information panels. The use of manual tools is preferred: pruning shears, saws, branch cutters, etc. in order to preserve this fragile environment. All of these different local people and regulars of the campsite where you will be accommodated will offer you many ways to participate in local life: meals, activities with the children of the school, local associations...
