The school surroundings need maintaining so the volunteers will work with seasonal tasks indoors and outdoors. The aim of this camp is to live in a balance with nature and take environment into account in planning the activities.On this camp you get to enjoy the Finnish summer with its beautiful lakes and forests. Please note that this is not a traditional work camp and the tasks vary by the season.

Accommodation will be in dormitory and the meals will be provided. There are possibilities for various creative and other activities. Sauna and swimming facilities are also available.

Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes about four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a location of natural beauty, right on Punkaharju ridge, surrounded on both sides by lakes. The area offers opportunities for outdoor activities. The volunteers can join Finnish language and culture lessons.

Arbeit

Volunteers will have a chance to develop their skills related to environment during this interesting two week program which combines practical tasks and workshops about different topics. The volunteers will work with various environmental tasks outdoors, get to know local youth work and have a common activities with Immigrant Summer School. There will be also excursions and trips to nearby places like Nuuksio national park.

Anforderungen

The volunteers need to be 18-30 years old European Union citizens or residents, who are motivated to volunteer in rural setting and need the EU support for taking part. No fees, this project is funded by the European Solidarity Corps so the volunteers travel costs will be reimbursed after the project. The volunteers will need to fill a project application form. Arbeit

The volunteers will work with different environmental tasks and also assist in in different repairing and renovation tasks, such as renovating sculptures made of recycled materials.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

First week the volunteers will be staying in a cottage in Nummijarvi camping and a second week in a cottage in Aikajarvi camping area. Cottages have all the basic facilities and the dining is arranged there and in the working places.

Lage und Freizeit

The location is Kauhajoki (www.kauhajoki.fi). The area is beautiful with lakes and nature, you can go swimming or rowing. There will also be some visits and excursions to the local sights. Volunteers can experience peaceful Finnish nature at its best.

The camp host is the youth cultural association of Pantane village which runs many activities for keepingthe village alive and people active. The volunteers will have a great chance to get to know Finnishcountryside, local culture, tradition and people. The volunteers will visit and work in many places. The work includes for example painting, repairing, tidying tasks both indoors and outdoors. The camp will promote intercultural understanding, involve local people and generally interact with people of all ages. Arbeit

The volunteers will assist in practical tasks in arranging the event, e.g. set up a cafe, selling refreshments and tidying up the area during the event and afterwards. The volunteers must be prepared to do different kind of work in various weather conditions. There will be hard work, but also lots of fun with locals and other volunteers. The aim of the camp is to give the volunteers a chance to experience Finnish history, nature and culture and enable the local young people to meet young adults from other countries.

Lage und Freizeit

Oulainen is a small town, about 7800 inhabitants. It s about 100 km south from Oulu and about 550 kilometers north from Helsinki. Various summer activities such as swimming, swamp football, playing games, excursions to nearby sights and fishing competition are possible. Also the local community center is available for the volunteers use.

The camp host is the local 4H club. 4H stand for Head, Hands, Heart and Health and it is an international network of rural youth which aims at developing the skills of young people. In Finland 4H is the biggest youth organisation with 250 local associations. There will be a local event called National Old Power Days which displays historical engines, tools and machinery. There will be about 20 000 people visiting the happening during three days. During the camp volunteers will be trained with First aid skills by the local Red Cross. The volunteering team will have a two-week program where the TRL association will welcome international volunteers to together organize various events and workshops for local youngsters in order to spread the message of equal and non- discriminating leisure activity. Visits in different skate parks create a link between local youth and international volunteers. Together with the active members of the association, the volunteers will organize skateboard trainings and workshop for all levels, with emphasis on beginners. Apart from this, the volunteers will participate in activities to maintain the skate parks, such as tidying the skate parks. Discussions and activities linked to gender equality, discrimination in a sport and in an urban space in general are foreseen. The volunteers will assist to organize a little skateboarding event serving as a promotion of Non-Discrimination in this sport field. The emphasis of this volunteering team is to make the youngsters think about the current societal, gender and discrimination issues and challengesnot only in a field of sport and skateboarding, but in general in Europe.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation and meals will be arranged in a youth house in Helsinki. Be prepared to sleep on the mattress on the youth house gym floor (sleeping bag needed) and bring your recipes in order to cook your favorite food on your cooking turn.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This volunteer team is organised together with a local partner association GirlsWomen skateboard association TRL. It was established in Helsinki in 2007 and since it has played an important role in girl, women and gender variant skateboarding in Finland. Nowadays the association has 140 active members, more than a half of them are youngsters from Helsinki. The aim of this volunteer based association is to create safe spaces where its members could skateboard, meet others and together develop and share the skills, regardless their gender, sexual orientation, background and without any discrimination. Annually the association organizes over 100 trainings in skateboard halls and more than 20 various events for girl, women and gender variant skateboard riders. In addition to the above, the TRL association communicates actively and visibly the message of the (gender)equality and non- discrimination, not only on social media but also through dialogue with different skateboard or other associations. Besides, they try to fight the cultural norms in this pretty masculine field. The aim is to gain better, safer and courageous position for girl skateboarders and to encourage other girls to bravely join. Arbeit

The volunteers will do a variety of tasks with forestry and nearby surroundings, such as marking nature trails and doing small repairs. The volunteers will also help with planning a local cultural event. Volunteers must be prepared with proper working clothes and shoes because the work is done outdoors in all weather conditions. The project is also about cultural learning, so the volunteers will prepare presentation of their countries to share with others.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be in dormitory or a cabin with common kitchen, toilets and showers. The volunteers will prepare the meals themselves. During free time volunteers can go trekking, swimming, to sauna etc. It is also possible to do some sightseeing around the area e.g. to reindeer farm or Sami museum, but the volunteers have to pay the fees and transport themselves.

Lage und Freizeit

Northern Lapland, Inari, see www.vasatokka.fi. The environment is characterized by arctic nature and three Lappish cultures: Inari Sami, North Sami and Skolt Sami. Also the nearness of the Arctic Ocean in Norway and Russia are emphasized. Vasatokka is located in amidst incredible lake scenery on the shores of Lake Muddusjarvi, near the wilderness area of Muotkatunturi and of the recreation area of Inari.

The camp host Vasatokka is one of ten national youth centers providing services for young people with the financial support of the Ministry of Education. The main purpose of these national youth centres is to support the work of teachers and trainers and to be of service to national and international youth activities. Anforderungen

The nearest bus stop and grocery is in Inari village (10km from the venue) and the volunteers will have to arrange and pay their trip all the way to youth centre. The nearest airport is in Ivalo (60 km), nearest railway station in Rovaniemi (340km), from there you can continue by bus to Inari. You can also take a bus from Helsinki (1200 km). The volunteers have to arrange their travel all the way to Vasatokka centre themselves.SR: The place is far from civilization. Those who like nature will fall in love with this place. Volunteers need to have a travel insurance. No fee.

The volunteers will work mainly outdoors to maintain the traditional landscape and parks in the area. They will also assist in various activities when needed, for example organising events for children. The volunteers will also get to know the everyday life in the Finnish countryside. The goal is to increase multicultural activity in Anjala and its community and learn from each other.

Accommodation is organized in a hostel apartment with shared kitchen, living room and a bathroom. The volunteers are provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner., some meals can be cooked by volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

Anjala is a small village, 25 km from Kouvola and about 140 kms from Helsinki. The Youth Centre is situated in a beautiful area by the River Kymijoki. On the same area there is an old manor building and agricultural school. Volunteers can use the facilities and equipment of the youth centre.

The volunteers will get to know the surrounding nature as well as familiarize themselves with the topic Youth and Peace. The United Nations adopted in 2015 a ground-breaking resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security, which recognizes that young people play an important and positive role in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security. During the camp the volunteers will learn about peace in everyday life through non-formal learning activities such as games, workshops and discussions how young people can promote peace at all levels of society for their own part. Join the project and become a peace messenger by spreading the word about the crucial role of youth participation in promotion of peaceful societies.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Accommodation will be in dormitory, meals provided. There are possibilities for various creative and other activities. Sauna and swimming facilities are also available.

Lage und Freizeit

Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a location of superb natural beauty, surrounded on both sides by lakes. The area offers opportunities for outdoor activities. The volunteers can join Finnish language and culture presentation.

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

The host organization Ikko is a modern, non-political and non-religious folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international students and groups throughout the year. They also host special target groups such as students with special needs as well as young asylum seekers. In this project you are working to progress the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by by increasing intercultural learning and understanding (SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities).

Anforderungen

The volunteers need travel insurance for the duration of their stay. The volunteers need to be 18-30 years old European Union citizens or residents, who are motivated to volunteer in rural setting and need the EU support for taking part. No fee, travel costs will be reimbursed. The volunteers will need to fill a project application form. Arbeit

The theme of the camp is nature and youth on the countryside and the volunteers will get many opportunities for intercultural encounters. Volunteers will take part in planning and organising nature school programmes for children and youngsters. Volunteers should be prepared to present their own country and its culture to local children and youth while visiting local school and youth houses. The volunteers will get a chance to get to know the local nature through renovating and tidying surroundings of Luontokapinetti, nature and environment education centre (https://www.poytya.fi/vapaa-aika-ja-matkailu/luontokapinetti/) and taking part in an activity day for protecting a local lake famous for its birds.

Unterkunft und Verpflegung

Volunteers will be accommodated in the local Youth Centre located in same building with Nature Centre, which runs exhibitions and environmental education. Volunteers will sleep in a one big room with camp beds, and volunteers should bring their own sleeping bags with them. Lunch will be provided by the camp host but all other meals will be cooked together by the volunteers.

Lage und Freizeit

Ylane is a small village surrounded by lakes and forests in Western Finland, about 190 km from Helsinki. During leisure time there will be nature activities for the volunteers, such as a trip to Kurjenrahka National Park and other summer activities such as sauna and swimming

Wer organisiert das Projekt?

This camp is organized together by the Municipality of Poytya and local 4H-club. The local organisations have again joined forces to organise an international work camp in order to give local youth international experiences. In this project you are working to progress the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by supporting biodiversity of nature (SDG 15 Life on Land) and by increasing intercultural learning and understanding (SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities).
